My sister delivered our IKEA dresser last weekend, along with a matching nightstand that will be stored until we know we have room or just for later. DH worked on this some of the day today... so I feel like we got something done for the nursery!
We also ordered the crib and mattress tonight, so once those come and the crib gets put together... I can start decorating. I can do that when DH is hunting in November.
I'm finally jumping in! Chair came over the weekend and it is so comfortable and cute! Now all we need is the crib which hopefully gets here next week. Everyone's nurseries are so beautiful!
Gliders!!! Which one did you or are you getting and why? The one we registered for is SUPER comfy, but if we don't get it at our shower (which is very likely we won't), we will likely buy another one as the one we registered for is also really expensive. So I am trying to come up with alternative options. I keep coming across the Storkcraft brand - any opinions??
@AbriannaO No help on brands, but we got ours at BuyBuyBaby because you can use the 20% coupons from Bed Bath and Beyond on it. And when your spending that much, 20% is a decent amount. So that's one way to soften the blow. But ours is taking 8 weeks to ship, so that's something to keep in mind.
We got our glider from wayfair. Its a grey upholstered one but I dont know what it was called anymore. Wayfair can have good prices you just have to watch (or look at camelcamelcamel) to make sure you are getting the best price. We had to watch this one for a few weeks before it dropped to a "sale price". It was about 250 I think.
With DD1 we got a glider at Costco. It was about 150 if I remember right...and its one of those wood framed ones that are pretty typical. I dont remember the brand right now but its held up well and we have used it daily for 2.5 years.
@tinattt23 our Babies R Us lets us use the 20% off Bed Bath and Beyond coupons too, which is definitely nice. We used it on our travel system stroller and car seat. Saved $115 because we also got the card that day to get the additional 10% off! The coupon would save us $100 on the glider and ottoman, but it's still a lot of money! Everything seems to be so much money!
@AbriannaO I don't know about Storkcraft, but we sprung for a Dutailier (well, both sets of grandparents went in on it together). I couldn't be more happy with it, it is so comfortable that maybe I won't mind the constant wake ups if I get to sit in it every time. We got the more modern looking model so that when baby gets older, we can use the chair in another room and it won't necessarily look like a baby rocker in our living room:
I just want to echo the warning about lead times. We changed our mind a few weeks ago when ordering a traditional wood framed glider (8 week lead time) to an upholstered glider chair instead (14-16 week lead time). I was shocked! So now our chair isn't expected to arrive until 6-8 weeks after our due date.
We have spent a lot of time recently looking for a glider. Our youngest nephew has a super comfortable one in his room, it's Best Home Furnishings. We found them in a few local furniture stores, but unfortunately you have to buy the glider and ottoman separately which is well over $600. For that price, we may just get a La-Z-Boy leather recliner for babies room. We are already getting one for our upstairs living room, which is $700... so then we'd have 2 matching ones for wherever in the house once it's not needed in that room anymore.
But, I did see a Best Choice brand glider/ottoman at BBB for $399. It's part of the Best Home Furnishing line, just a different series. Our store had that one and a Dutailier sitting out, and DH thought the Best one was more comfortable. And for that price (with getting either 10-20% off with coupon), it would work. However, I am guessing shipping time will be awhile, as @tinattt23 said, so I may venture out this Friday and talk with an associate to order if we don't just go the recline route.
We JUST started getting furniture ordered... ya know, cos we haven't had the last 7 months! *lol*

Another tip on the organizing... if you label something with a permanent marker (so, it doesn't wipe off so easily, because dry erase will!) all you have to do to get it to come off is spray a little rubbing alcohol on it. I use this all the time in our home and school.
We got a Best brand glider from BRU. It was the most comfortable one we sat in, even more than the Dutailiers (in my opinion). It was pretty pricy, but my in-laws bought it for us as a gift. We got lucky and liked the colors of the floor model, so it only took 3-4 weeks to ship. I love sitting and rocking in it already!
We went to BBB last night and ordered our Best Chairs glider. It was $399 normally, but with using their 20% off coupon and tax, it ended up coming to $343 - which we felt was a great deal for a comfy chair. They said it will take 12 weeks to get in, so the wait is on.
But, as I have posted before, we are keeping him mostly upstairs for awhile and will be getting a nice leather recliner for that living room to rock, etc. So, we probably won't use the glider much right away anyway... and it's only an estimated month after EDD. Now crossing our fingers that the leather recliner doesn't take too long to get in once we get that ordered within the next week.

Gliders...ours is a Shermag and we got it at BRU when we were having my oldest who will be 8 in December. Still is great and super comfortable. We've had to tighten the bolts a few times but honestly for being 8+ years old, it's great. When I rocked my second in the glider, I would literally fall asleep in it because it's so comfortable. Just my two cents on gliders
The lighting sucks at the moment, it's actually a gray crib. We could at least bring baby home today and not sweat the small stuff about the nursery. He has a place to lay his head lol The bumper ties drive me crazy! Any suggestions to make that look better are welcome.
@capps42613 bumpers aren't recommended anymore. Same with blankets. Or stuffed animals. Basically everything cute is bad and babies should sleep on a firm mattress with only a fitted sheet.
That said, we started using mesh bumpers when dd1 was about 6 months old because she was getting her legs stuck and bruised. But until then nothing at all was needed.

I used the bumpers as a window valance in order to be able to get some use from them and then gave DS the quilt that came with the set once he got old enough and he loves it. They now make sets without the bumpers which is nice so that you're not spending money on things that can't be used
We also use blankets/quilts after a certain age or ability. With dd1 that was when she was about 9 months old because she could get away from them easily in her sleep. But still at almost 2.5, she just kicks them off after about an hour. I made this baby a quilt and it will be used as decoration and a floor play mat. There are ways to use things even if it's not as the things were intended.
I know bumpers aren't safe for babies, but stores should really be held accountable for selling them. Hello, take them off of your rack and stop selling them to new parents that don't know they aren't safe.
I tried to tell my grandmother that crib bumpers are not safe or recommended now and she said that when he gets his head stuck in between the slats and suffocates and dies it will be my fault. Thanks Grandma, I never worried about that til now. It's crazy how resistant some people are to change even with the new research that supports the change!
I used bumpers to tie around the top of the crib as a teething guard when we discovered that he was using the top of the crib rails as a freaking chew toy.
@ashleaf2018 I am amazed at how many people are not willing to do the research regarding the changes in up bringing children! They assume that since they raised so many kids successfully that everything should remain the same. My MIL bought an old car seat (around 10 years old) thinking that she could use it with our baby. I told her HECK NO and had to explain how they have expiration dates. I have encouraged all of our parents to look into classes to educate themselves, and so far, only my mom has done anything. She's taking just as many classes as we are it seems so that she can know as much as possible for what the rules are now. My MIL just assumes that since she works in a nursing home that she knows what to do. This will all go to show who will be watching the kid down the road.
Hey Mamas. I found a helpful resource for all of the nursery/registry stuff. You can actually ask a baby gear expert for some advice for free. Hoping she can help me figure out if we need to spend a ton of $$ on a bassinet! https://www.tinyhood.com/babyandtoddlergear/
Once they're mobile in the crib, I plan on buying rail guards to prevent any teeth marks from chewing, etc. But knowing that is a ways down the road... just a sheet is going in the crib for now! For pics, I will put a blanket hanging over the side, but just for decoration mainly.
We're getting some car seats handed down from my BIL, but they're more the convertible ones past the infant stage. They're still good, and we'll probably put one in my mom's car just in case... as long as they're still good when that time comes. I think the expiration is years off, and it's never been in an accident.

@kacie209 some convertible seats are ok for infants. With dd1 we had the bucket seats in DH's car and the convertible in my truck. It was a pain at times since you obviously have to remove the baby everywhere you go instead of the bucket, but I didn't see the point in 2 buckets. But not ALL convertible ones are appropriate for baby babies so you'd have to look it up.
@sourlemon Thanks! These ones are definitely past the infant stage and my BIL's wife said age 1-5 or 6. Which by then, we may move him up to his own convertible anyway since we just got an infant seat for now.

What's crazy to me about my grandma being worried about the crib slats is that we have a cradle. It doesn't even have slats. It was handmade by my grandfather and is deep enough that I slept in it until I was two and switched to a "big girl bed." But seriously... it doesn't even have slats! I wouldn't even be able to attach a bumper pad to it, and she knows all of this.
@ashleaf2018 My MIL said something similar when I mentioned 'no bumpers.' It was along the lines of 'well I guess you just have to decide whether you want to risk them banging their head against the wood and getting a concussion or suffocating!' I replied that since newborns can't roll yet I'd go ahead and follow the doctor's recommendations. It's such a point of pride that we make the EXACT choices they did! Everything from the possible evils of vaccines (no, you still have to get one to hold the baby and she WILL be vaccinated on schedule, thank you very much!) to organic mattresses to bumpers is turned into a judgement of how she raised her kids.
Well, this is only step one in making the nursery... I moved my toddler back downstairs to room with our 5 yo and moved my 8 yo back upstairs to room with our 11 yo. So we have a "big girl" and "little girl" room currently. But when baby arrives or once he/she is ready to move out of our bedroom it will move in with our toddler and our 5 yo will move to the "big girl" room! Golly it's complicated! It's like Tetris with children!
It think it's done. The recliner showed up this morning as a gift from the inlaws. Not at all what we picked out (frankly I'm not a fan at all) and 3x more expensive than the one we picked out, but I've been told were keeping it. I think the rest of the room turned out lovely and I'm excited to share it with her. Sorry the pics are huge, mobile bumping.
The nursery is finally finished besides some minor decor details. He will have metal initials above his crib with a white deer head, but we have to name him first It was harder than I thought to blend his new decor with my 22mo DD's decor.
Here's ours! It came out almost exactly how I wanted it. We may do some white birch tree decals on the blue wall, and by "we" I mean "he", because I could see myself getting way too frustrated applying those. We'll see.
