@sourlemon I've been thinking about that too, so I have a question for STMs
DH Gram (who has not been doing well health wise..) got us a mobile to go over the crib and she is super proud of her purchase. It would break her heart if we didn't put it up. What would you do about the situation?
You can have the mobile up until baby is able to stand in the crib. Then you need to take it down. But that gives the mobile at least 4 - 7 months of use
@BabyRobbinsAdventure my support post is pretty darn stable when tightened on the crib. You can also have it at the foot end of the bed. We did that for a while because DD wanted to play with it instead of sleep. Problem solved when it was on the other side of the crib. She still saw it and stuff but was less tempted to try to play with it.
Totally @yellingbanana Also, if you have a toddler, beware that they are able to put things in/on/around baby that might be safe for them but not for baby... Or pull things on them. Please secure all shelves or dressers to the wall. We've had two dressers fall on or over due to children climbing on them! It's so dangerous, don't wait for it to happen the first time.
I finally belong here! Here is our 99% completed nursery. Just a few more pieces of art to hang up! Also if anyone wants to have a frustrating afternoon go out and buy a Graco duet connect swing/bouncer. Putting that monstrosity together was such a headache.
We got approval from our landlord to paint! He said he would also send over a picture of the paint he has that he thinks we will like so that we don't have to buy it. So hopefully painting will happen in the next 2 weeks (my mom is going to come up and do it while we are at work since she loves to paint and is insistent that I not be near the fumes). Then we will head off to IKEA for curtains and a giant area rug (hardwood floors). This weekend we focused on the basement and sorting through the hundreds of baby clothes my friend gave us into bins based on their sizes so we can store them until they're needed. And hopefully this week and weekend we will finish the basement projects so that we can move to the upstairs next!
I think we might actually order the crib and dresser this week... and MIL said to throw in the mattress on that bill too since they're paying for it. DH thought to just leave it on the registry until both of my showers, but I may just indicate it's been bought so they can make the purchase for us. And since it's on the Buy Buy Baby registry, we can use a 20% off coupon, too.
We decided on the DaVinci Piedmont crib in espresso. I like that is has a drawer underneath that can store extra sheets, towels, blankets, etc. Plus, it lays flat against the wall instead of the Kalani that is sleigh-like. We won't have it super next to the wall, but I like that it's flat vs. the curve.
For the dresser... IKEA Hemnes 8-drawer in black/brown. I know they've had issues with them but as long as they're bolted to the wall we're god. Plus, we'd probably bolt other stuff we got anyway. And, for the price ($250ish)... I think it's a good deal and will last a long time in that room and for the kid to use down the road. Another one I liked was $600, which I didn't want to spend.

Glad I held off because a mystery person bought our crib off the registry! I just got something simple. I can't wait to bring it home so that I can finish decorating! I want to get some more paintings and some shelves.
We have also received a bouncer and a swing. Do you think the swing should be upstairs in the baby's room or in the family room? I figured the bouncer would be pretty much everywhere we are since they are so mobile.
I don't have a dresser yet either - I have room but want to see what it looks like with the crib in the room. So far I have one of those cube bookshelves with the cube drawers in them which is where i'm sticking the onsies and stuff and all the diapering stuff goes on the shelves of the changing table. I thought MAYBE I could use that for clothes storage (I even have it in the closet) and get one of those hanging fabric shelves as well, and only have out the size clothes that fit baby. Am I underestimating the amount of crap I am going to have?

DH finished painting the nursery! Poor guy had to do it twice, since I didn't like the color the first time. We just got some more baby things at a shower on Sunday, but haven't put them in the room yet. It's starting to really look like a nursery and not an office. So fun!
@Kacie209 we spent about three hours putting together the ikea dresser, but it's well worth it! Great dresser for the price!
I just got started on our nursery about two weeks ago, it's coming together slowly. I wouldn't call it a 'theme' but I have incorporated my fur babies in the decor of the nursery. Plus I love the quote about little boys and puppy dog tails!
Wall color is sherwin Williams oyster bay and I love it because it goes from being really blue green to a grey color depending on the time of day. Dresser is from ikea and crib from target. Also this awesome lamp is from target. The photos and quote I made myself and the sweet knitted blanket is handmade from my mom. I'm so ready to have my baby shower so I can fill this room with baby things!!!
Sorry not nursery related....... @gigemily09 are yours purebred gsp? They are awesome doggies! Mines 10 years old and still very much that energetic pointer! Of course I only seem to have pictures of her sleeping or being lazy...
Alright, now I am FOR SURE getting that dresser... it looks so great and I really do love that extra storage space! DH won't mind the time to put it together, as he actually likes doing that sort of stuff.
We have to have it shipped since the closest IKEA is 3 hours away. Unless I can get DH to make an overnight trip to Minneapolis, but our weekends are just too busy the way it is. Shipping is outrageous ($349!).

@sourlemon yes!!! They are 8 and 9 years old! They are pretty lazy lol! I'm slightly obsessed with them, they are my babies! I'm really interested to see how everything is going to go once this human baby arrives! I hope they fall in love with him!
Also I got those stuffed GSPs on orvis.com! They are so cuuuuuute!
@gigemily09 mine wasn't interested so much in the baby for a while. She tolerated the baby and would sit on the couch with her, but that was about it. If the baby got fussy or started trying to touch her, she would leave. Now that DD is a little over 2, the gsp is the best dog with her. Petting, kissing, climbing on, snuggling...the dog doesn't like it per se but she's very tolerable. We have a Shepard mix who was great with the baby at a young age but doesn't much care for the toddler behavior. It's funny to see how the dogs react and how it changes over time.
I love the temperament of gsps. But those first 5 years were crazy with how hyper mine was!
@sourlemon I think that's probably how they will be, they will probably just go lay in their beds away from the noise lol! They've been around little kids and are good with them, but I'm sure they will just be indifferent. And yes, love their temperament, they are such lovers, they love to cuddle! The whiter one I've had since he was a puppy, and he was definitely a handful! The other we adopted about 3 years ago, don't know his background, but he can get pretty crazy at times too! They really are great family dogs!
Yay! I can FINALLY post here! Nothing fancy, but it works for us! I can't upload the rest for some reason, but we have a swing, bookshelf, and some wall decor.
My mom surprised me this week by coming over with her sewing machine to make curtains for the nursery My parents fell on hard times financially for the last 3 years after my dad was laid off, and I know my mom has felt terrible not being able to help us out financially for either our wedding or our baby (Especially since DH's parents have been generous buying furniture for nursery). This was a very sweet thing for her to do and the curtains look great!
Instead
of buying a new dresser for our nursery (many of them on the
market for $300-500 and made of particle board, not real wood), my
husband and I decided to buy an old dresser from a thrift store and
refinish it. I love how it looks! It will double as a changing table, too.
@DumbledoresArmy thanks! I stole lots of ideas from pinterest and made them my own way (typically easier than the super fancy ones on pinterest).
I told DH last night that the next kid is getting a theme that has lots of buyable stuff because this was exhausting! But it's hard to find girly star wars stuff.
@sourlemon - can you help me out? What's the deal with the star wars movies right now? I know 7 just came out... are 8 and 9 to follow? but then, are there other ones that aren't part of that series? I'm confused. When is 8 coming out?
@slartybartfast 7 came out last year. 8 and 9 are set to follow about 18 months apart. Rogue One is coming out this Dec and is NOT part of the "original 9". It takes place right before the original episode 4. Then I think there are gonna be 2 more non trilogy movies on different subjects but honestly I haven't even looked at what. I'll watch them...but leave it to Disney to screw things up!
Some of the extended universe books and even some of the shows like rebels (kids show that sucks) have been made into "canon"...basically accepted as truth in the star wars universe. Sometimes it's too hard to follow even for die hards like DH and i.
One thing for sure: no other movies will ever beat the shock and awesomeness of the original trilogy.
Progress! Waiting on the glider to ship still. Shelves for over the dresser need one more coat of paint. Diaper cart needs painting. Decorations need to go up. And need a real lamp. But at least it's something.
Hello ladies, we have made some progress. Still have not gotten the glider (soon!), but I put a chair to make me visualize it. We installed some command hooks for that DIY swing and DH still has to hang it (fully)and I'll put a few stuffed animals sitting on it. Anyways, see below.
@sourlemon I knew you'd appreciate this! I designed this table for DH for our anniversary last year. It took me 3 months, and then my dad volunteered to build it if I paid for the supplies ($200 total). There are glass panels that go into it that have Yoda on one side and Vader on the other and the phrase "Choose Wisely" etched into them, but they're still at the other house. Had to move it without the glass in it.
DH can display his models in the table, and on the sides is room for storing board games. ^.^
@dmontgo that is awesome! I'm sure DH would love something like that!!! but we have so much star wars everywhere in our house it's ridiculous already so i am not showing this to him! Cuz then hed have to have something like it and id be stuck building it at 8 months pregnant! haha.
@sourlemon I know what you mean! I eventually had to ask DH if we can cut back some on the Star Wars decor because it wasn't blending with the house well--just looked too cluttered for me. But kept the good stuff...like our Carbonite Han Solo foyer rug muwahahaha....
Re: The Big Nursery Thread
Thank you @aevan011! I saw a canopy with birds holding it up, but I didn't want to hang anything right above her so this was the next best thing
Also, if you have a toddler, beware that they are able to put things in/on/around baby that might be safe for them but not for baby... Or pull things on them.

Pretty much how it's going to look when baby arrives. (You can see the dresser reflected in the window since it's against the other wall haha)
