Had my ER this morning. They were able to get 13 eggs so we're pretty happy with that! Not feeling too bad, but glad I'm not going to work today as I feel like I'm moving pretty gingerly and I know I'd be getting questions from nosey coworkers
Me: 30 DH:30 No kids yet DH: Diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in 12/15 resulting in right orchiectomy &one round of BEP chemo. Banked sperm prior to treatment. Not enough in storage to risk on IUI so encouraged to go right to IVF w/ICSI. Together since 2001. Married 10/2013 10/24/16 - Began stims (menopur & gonal f) for 1st round of IVF on high responder antagonist protocol. 11/5/16 - Lupron trigger. 11/7/16 - 13 eggs retrieved; 8 mature; 5 fertilized 11/12/16 - 5 day ET of 1 hatching embryo Beta scheduled for 11/28!
@Adoc86 so glad your ER went well. You should rest up and drink lots of fluids.
@DDRGirlie so frustrating you have spotting, hopefully not AF. Good luck.
Afm ET didn't happen this morning. My RE called and said the embryo was not a blastocyst. We talked for a while and while she did say she thought my best chance of getting pregnant was with donor eggs, she said since I have only had one ER she was willing to try another one. I suggested a "cold start" without birth control and she agreed. My husband and I set up a meeting with her for next week once we have had a few days to ponder the results. I honestly wasn't that surprised that the embryo didn't grow so am taking it Ok.
Adoc86 - Congrats on the 13!! FX for a great fertilization report tomorrow!!
lrynwnab - I am so sorry I wonder too that if they waited for my embryo to grow more, if it would have arrested and then I wouldn't be enduring this tww for potentially nothing. It seems like the opinions are split on whether in the lab or in the womb is better for an embryo between days 3-5. I am so glad they are going to try again. Did you RE mentioned estrogen priming at all? It seems like a lot of ladies had success with that this round. I have also thought about doing a natural start... but I'm afraid with no suppression (like BC or estrogen), I will have a lead follicle issue. Glad you get to talk to them next week about next steps. Thinking of you!!

I'm pretty sure it's positive because I developed pretty bad ohss about 4dp5dt and have pretty much been on the couch for the last week. I don't want to complain because I would do anything for this to work, but good lord does this suck! I've gained about 20 lbs of fluid while throwing up anything I eat or drink! @taradise99 sorry youre feeling crappy! cant wait to hear your results.
@lrynwnab I want to make a suggestion. I think you need to switch your RE. I find it very odd, that they don't do day 3 transfers, and I find it even more odd that they didn't transfer that embryo today. If the embryo was alive and did not arrest, they should have transferred it. It would have done NO harm and would AT LEAST give you a chance. ALL RE's do day 3 or day 5, that just her choice not to, and its not a very smart one. Some embryos thrive better in the uterus and do better when transferred on day 3. Some are fighters and make it to day 5, they are stronger because of it and do better being transferred then. From what I have learned, it is about reading the quality and qaunity of the embryos and making an educated guess which day would be better. So to take DAY 3 off the table completely, just seems wrong. She is giving you less of a chance, before you even begin. I also find it VERY odd that she is SO quick to jump to an egg donor. My eggs aren't great, ( a lot of us have egg problems) but out RE's have been giving our eggs a chance and experimenting with options. In my case it worked- i'm pregnant. My crappy eggs, made a baby. So who is to say your eggs wont eventually make one too. She isn't even trying; and I feel like I want to punch her in the face for you lol. Something about your RE seems off, and I don't think it is fair to you. I would 100% seek another opinion. Dont I think its good that you pressed for another round! but I think maybe looking into another round with a different doctor.

@JamieH2000@Colleen0516 thank you both for your kind words. dH and I definitely have a lot to think about. Colleen, this is my second RE, I have now visited both in town. I definitely have gotten a TON more doctor face time with the second one, which has me much more at ease. The first place, I only ever saw the ultrasound tech. It was crazy. I didn't officially "break up" with the first RE so technically I could go back. But not ready to do that I don't think.
People do get pregnant on day 3 transfers so it was somewhat shocking to hear they don't do them. I have heard of other clinics doing this (based on Internet research) so not totally unheard of. Perhaps they do it to make their statistics look better? The nurse on the day of my ER said she has been there 3 years and they have never done a day 3 transfer.
This new RE mentioned donor eggs the first time we talked and the first RE was never so aggressive with that discussion. I guess I have to weigh the good and bad with both.
AFM - so yes I will be triggering tonight but when I left today it was on the edge of Lupron and hgc. The nurse said if my E2 went about 6000 it would be Lupron. It just came back 6099. Ugh. I was really hoping for a fresh transfer. I know FETs are really successful but he would want me to wait like 5 weeks which would bring us into January and that's when work gets really busy for me. I'm hoping he will have mercy and let me trigger w/ HGC or at the very least let me go right into an FET. It's only a few extra weeks but it seems like a lifetime. I really shouldn't complain but yeah just feels like someone popped my baby hope bubble.
taradise99 - I was hoping to come back and see good news from you!! Congrats!! Will you have another beta on wed?
Knottie39402101 - Any delays in this process are frustrating its hard to wait when we have been waiting forever... but hopefully you will get lots of good eggs and embryos and it will be worth it to have those extras!
lrynwnab - It is so hard to know what to do. I am also trying to figure out if I should try to get a second opinion scheduled now (since it can take a while to get an apt). If this cycle doesn't work for me, I will be shocked if my RE doesn't bring up donor eggs given my one cancelled cycle and only 2 eggs this cycle. I think its a totally personal decision on what to do next and of course also depends on $$. If you have insurance coverage, maybe try again... but if you are out of pocket.. its hard to think about spending that much money on something with such low odds. I am fortunate to have a good amount of insurance left.. probably enough for at least 2 more cycles.. however I am not sure I have enough mental energy to try for a 4th time if the next round I don't get any better results. I want my own child soo badly... but I think, in time, I could be ok with donor eggs as I would still get to carry the child and I wouldn't know anything different once they were here. Good luck with your decisions and keep us posted as we will all be thinking of you!!

@Knottie39402101 are you certain you won't be able to do a fresh transfer? I triggered with Lupron (I was on the edge of HCG and Lupron, too and based on my b/w that morning I was directed to use the Lupron later that night) and am still on track to do a fresh transfer. My RE told me that as long as I don't exhibit any symptoms of OHSS in the meantime then I can do a fresh transfer and that the success rates are just as high as long as my estrogen and progesterone supplements are aggressive. From the beginning I was told I'd most likely be doing Lupron for a trigger and the plan has always been to do a fresh transfer.
@lrynwnab so sorry to hear that sending positive vibes your way.

@Adoc86 - I believe the facility I go to "recommends" freezing and it was either hgc for a fresh or Lupron for a frozen. I'll have to ask if there is any hope. The originally didn't plan to have me on any estrogen following the retrieval. He also wants to do a natural cycle but I've been reading that a medicated cycle is more successful.
@Knottie39402101 I forgot to mention that I was also given a shot of HCG today after my ER. I was told that by doing it this way the Lupron trigger would reduce the risk of OHSS, while the HCG booster afterward would provide the needed support during the luteal phase, so you get the best of both worlds. Maybe there is a reason your RE isn't doing this, but it might be worth inquiring about. Fx for you!

@shawna43 GL on your transfer today!!! FX!! JamieH2000 Thanks for adding me!! My BETA is nov 19th. I'm so nervous and excited for my transfer tomorrow. One PGS normal 5AB.
@knottie39402101 wow those are some numbers! Hope the dr has mercy on you and lets you do the hgc. I usually trigger with noverel, i have to look up what that is. Yay for trigger, can't wait to hear ur update after!
@lrynwnab I have no words as @colleen0516 said exactly what i was thinking. My heart is with you! Its very hard changing up RE, many have suggested I do that as well and i just cant do it yet. She answers all my email and really tries AND they are one of the most successful clinics here. They do day 3 and day 5 of transfers. I pay everything OOP so I'm just not sure how this cycle is going to go.
@kris10cdn wishing you all the best for a smooth transfer, may this be your sticky healthy bean!
@taradise99 yay!!! Super excited for you!! How many did you transfer? Hoping those numbers just keep doubling!!
@JamieH2000@Colleen0516@kp214 thank you ladies so much! I know you're right and i'm trying to let each cycle progress its just a struggle when you really thought you would already be on baby #2!! I just wish I knew about the Estrogen protocol a few days sooner to ask more about it. Colleen I do think you might be right and I can pray that my answer BUT the thought of waiting another cycle and not being able to try till next year is just torture to me! 2016 is a complete bust with all the IUIs and cycles, its just a loss and I can't give into that just yet.
AFM I Went for acupuncture to try and help them along more if it can. Funny she (the acupuncturist) told me since the gonalf is more powerful to use that on the left and the menupar on the right. My estrogen at least doubled to 100 so at least its rising. I'm no where near 1000 and I feel like thats where it really needs to be. Trying to calm myself and let nature take its course. I'll now go back on thursday bw/us will still try to hope the left will get to movin and the right will keep up the good work UGH what a hard process this is!!!
DONOR EGGS - Theres nothing wrong with donor eggs however its a bit frustrating when the RE jumps to that when they see your body isnt producing the way it should. Yes i wanted a baby like yesturday, however I still haven't given up on my own eggs just yet. I've never even gotten to a ER to know that i really have bad eggs. I need to first get mine out before i could even think about donor eggs. You should know it wasn't my regular RE but the head of the practice that gave me that news. He asked me not to tell my RE that he made me cry. I told him it was ok as she has done the same too.

@Kris10cdn good luck with your transfer! @JamieH2000 I tried EpP a few times at my first RE and it was great at getting AF to come on the correct day. The one time I didn't do EPP or birth control, I had an AFC of 8 and things seemed positive, but then AF never came. I'll definitely ask whether taking ganirelix is more suppressive than BC, or about the same. I think it's interesting that we both took micrdose lupron and got small results. I would like another chance without lupron. Part of me does want to throw my hands up at my eggs and just go the donor route. My insurance is covering a little but not most. Thank you to all in this group, you have been very supportive.
Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking here for a while, but I think I've been in denial that I'm going through this. We are in the middle of our first IVF cycle. The egg retrieval was last Wednesday, and tomorrow they will call and tell us if any of the embryos made it to day six. If any made it, then they will be sent for the genetic screening.
I am trying to be optimistic but having a difficult time. At each of my checkups during the stimulation, they would say everything was great and that I was over-achieving. They even dialed back the amount of meds. Then we only ended up with twelve eggs. Eight were mature and six fertilized. The clinic hasn't provided any updates since Thursday, and I'm going a little crazy. The odds don't seem very promising.
We started infertility treatment just over a year ago after one miscarriage (blighted ovum) and then a year with no pregnancies. We did three IUIs. The first, around last Christmas, ended in a miscarriage right before New Years. The second didn't result in pregnancy, and the third ended in a miscarriage at nine weeks. At the DNC for the third miscarriage, our RE tested for causes and found it was due to chromosomal defects, so he recommended moving to IVF.
Anyway, I just wanted to say how much I admire all of you who have been through this multiple times. I'm not sure we'll try again if this fails.
me: almost 38, DH: 38 Natural pregnancy resulting in miscarriage (blighted ovum) - 11/14 IUI #1 - miscarriage 12/15 IUI #2 - nothing 3/16 IUI #3 - pregnancy, miscarriage at 9 weeks - 7/16 IVF #1 - in process, egg retrieval on 11/2/16.
@Adoc86 great number retrieved! Eager to hear the fertilization report tomorrow!
@lrynwnab I'm so sorry. That really sucks. Has the re explained her reasoning behind my doing day 3 transfers. I know, in theory, day 5 embryos tend to be stronger and thus have a better chance a live birth, but some day 3 transfers are going to do better in the uterus. Please take care of yourself. If you aren't ready for the de discussion, tell them that.
@Hopeful_mom fx that they are growing and are your golden eggs!

question for you all... my accupuncturist also thinks I should switch clinics. I have only spoken to my RE during my consult, IUI and transfer. A different RE did my retrieval otherwise I just hear from nurses. After my first cancelled cycle I was able to ask some questions during my IUi, but otherwise I email the nurse and they respond with the doctors answer. I'm assuming if this doesn't work, we will have a follow up appointment. I thought this was normal, but my accupuncturist thinks I should be hearing from my RE herself much more, especially given my bad results for the two cycles. What do you think?

@JamieH2000 my clinic is small. I see my re at every monitoring appointment. I love that I'm able to ask her questions and hear from her directly. She has even called me on a cell number. I was at a couple of other places that moved us through like cattle. One place did testing but lied about coverage, while the other we met once before starting iui's, which she never did herself. It may take "shopping" around to find a clinic you like. It doesn't hurt to search around. Just my two cents. Hopefully, you don't need a new one.

@JamieH2000 i see my RE on literally every visit. she does everything herself. from blood draws to ultra sound to ER to transfer. ebery single thing is monitored by her directly. so yes its so nice to know my RE knows what is going on with me every step of the way.
My previous clinic i saw the RE one time on transfer. he never even did the ER himself. he never did one monitoring ultrasound and i had a different nurse each time.
Im so glad im in a more attentive clinic. makes all the difference.

@JamieH2000 sounds like my clinic. I see my RE around here and there - she did two of my U/S herself when she was in the office, but typically I don't see her at all and literally all of my questions go to my nurse. A different RE did my mock transfer and ER. Its a big (HUGE) clinic though with lots of locations and my RE splits her time between a couple different offices so she is just physically not there half the time. I really like my nurse and feel very confident in her so I think that helps me from being too concerned about it. I can email her anytime of day and she responds pretty quickly so I'm never just out in limbo. However, if things weren't going as smoothly for me as they are I would probably be much more uneasy about the lack of direct attention from my RE. If this round doesn't work for you I think its worth looking around for a clinic where you might get more personal attention from the doctor so that they can monitor you more closely themselves.
I love my RE, but sometimes I do feel like I'm on a pregnancy assembly line in these big offices lol

@JamieH2000 my acupuncturist is also not pleased with the care I'm getting at my clinic but I don't have $30k to spend at the other one. We moved to a cheaper house a few months back prior to being accepted at the Navy clinic to reduce our expenses in case we needed to get a loan. My hubby is retired military and he gets a pension but he's in law school (thankfully his tuition is covered). Living on pretty much my income in San Diego is hard. Paying $4k for IVF with the Navy it would be hard for us to switch to a private clinic. We have to be our own advocates. I'm not super hopeful that the IUI worked, TWW will be next Monday but I'm super moody like PMS.
@Colleen0516 you're right, DOR sucks. I'm relatively newer in the IVF journey with just one canceled cycle so I'm still holding on my clinic will let me try again instead of going right to donor.
@Hopeful_mom I'm praying for you...I would go for an ER if you have 3. But that's just me.

@JamieH2000 at my old clinic, I barely saw my RE, he was never there. I barely even got phone calls. I felt like I was in the dark all the time.
At my new RE, I see her all the time. There is a girl that does the blood draws, and then she primarily does the sonograms- on Friday, it is a different doctor, but it is still a doctor!! I can always ask questions and they always take the time to answer them. A good RE is priceless!!

@jamieh2000 I really think that if it will provide you some piece of mind - you should make a consult appointment. Just so you have it. It can't hurt and you could always cancel it if you don't need it.

Ladies.. thank you for all your responses. You have really helped me realize I should investigate other places. I think if things were going smoothly for me, I would understand the interactions mainly with the nurses (who are really good), but I think given my situation, I maybe need or deserve a little more attention. I am not sure the other place in my insurance will provide that (its a bigger clinic with multiple locations), but I think I will at least check it out. I am also considering another highly recommended RE that is not covered by my insurance... just for a consult.. and if I love her.. am I crazy to consider paying out of pocket?
@adoc86- I think 5 is still awesome, but I am a little surprised that only 8 out of 13 were mature given the concern about OHSS and the Lupron trigger. I have heard normal fertilization is 50-75%, so 5 out of 8 seems normal there. FX that the 5 continue to grow into beautiful embabies!

@shauna43 that's great! I loved seeing the lil embie go in. Hope it's a stickie one!
AFM ladies, I'm pretty sure I have AF. I POAS and BFN last night. I'm 8dp5dt. My doctor still wants me to go for my beta on Friday. I'm expecting the worst so hopefully I won't have a breakdown at work when the doctor calls me. My question is what happens for a FET. Do I need meds again? I've used 11k of my 15k allowed by insurance already. I don't know how we'll pay for meds if we have to do this again.
@DDRgirlie- I'm so sorry I would insist they check your progesterone on Friday too. You really shouldn't being getting AF while on progesterone, and your progesterone needs to stay high enough to sustain an implantation after a transfer. I haven't done an FET, but I believe the meds are MUCH cheaper (no stims!), so I think I have read between $500-$1000 maybe. Hang in there, thinking of you!

@Adoc86 I don't know how typical your results are. I do recall the fertilization using icsi is like 50-75% from what I was told. That seems to be right where you are. What day transfer do you plan to do?
@DDRGirlie I'm sorry. I agree that you may want to have your progesterone checked also. It seems strange to have AF while taking progesterone.
Afm, I have 15 follicles! Most are between 11-15 mm with a few greater than 16 and a few less than 11. This is the best response I've ever had. Fx that I have some good ones in this batch! Waiting to hear from the rise about a tentative trigger time. I'm hoping tomorrow night, so I won't have to go back for monitoring Thursday.

@JamieH2000 I think that's the only reason that I feel unsure about it as well - because of all the OHSS hype I expected a lot more. I know 5 isn't bad, I guess I just felt like maybe it was bad for me in particular given the expectations.
@Isthisthereallife & @Kp214 The plan is to do a 5 day transfer with one embryo. Because of my age my RE will only transfer one. I don't know if they will opt for a 3 day if things aren't ideal or not.
I tend to be a pessimist when it comes to myself so in my mind I am
assuming this first IVF isn't going to work. I am prepared for that -
but I am crossing my fingers that one of these embryos gets to freeze so
that I don't have to do another ER if I have to go on to IVF #2. I am in
misery right now! I am so bloated that I am expecting the button on my
pants to pop off at any moment and fly across the room LOL. I've only
gained half a pound (the nurse told me to watch for more than 2 pounds
in 24 hours) and I don't have any other symptoms of OHSS, but I am SO
uncomfortable. I've been chugging gatorade and just ate some uber high
sodium soup so lets hope that helps. This is what I get for having such
an easy time with the stims. Ugh! Major props to you ladies that have done this more than once.

FX for a great fertilization report tomorrow!!
lrynwnab - I am so sorry
I wonder too that if they waited for my embryo to grow more, if it would have arrested and then I wouldn't be enduring this tww for potentially nothing.

I feel like the puff marshmallow man right now! I hope no one else has to deal with this. I'll update everyone when they call me later w my beta

Knottie39402101 - Any delays in this process are frustrating
its hard to wait when we have been waiting forever... but hopefully you will get lots of good eggs and embryos and it will be worth it to have those extras!
lrynwnab - It is so hard to know what to do.

@JamieH2000 I do have tentative days for transfer 11/16, 11/18 or 11/23. just depends on how my lining looks. I have an appt tomorrow so hopefully I'll know more.
Me: Stage 3 endo, blocked left tube
November 18, 2016: FET- transferring 2.... BFP!!! beta 1= 2619
JamieH2000 Thanks for adding me!! My BETA is nov 19th.
I'm so nervous and excited for my transfer tomorrow. One PGS normal 5AB.
@JamieH2000 @Colleen0516 @kp214 thank you ladies so much!
I'll now go back on thursday bw/us will still try to hope the left will get to movin and the right will keep up the good work
DONOR EGGS - Theres nothing wrong with donor eggs however its a bit frustrating when the RE jumps to that when they see your body isnt producing the way it should.
Unexplained Infertility - but I am 40...Low AMH .30
7 - IUI (50mg-150mg Clomid) Feb - August 2016 all BFN
IVF#1 August 2016 (Antagonist protocol 4/5 eggs) Cancelled cycle
IVF#2 Sept 2016 (microdose luporn pro - disappearing follies, ONLY ONE, convert to IUI) BFN
IVF#3 November 2016 (4 ER, 3 F, 3DT)-BFP
IVF#4 March 2017 //EPP (10 ER (1 wonky so 9 ER) 7F, 3B (5AB, (2)5BB) PGS tested- ALL abnormal
IVF#5 April 2017 // EPP (7 ER, 7F yes! 6B) 2/5 day 4/6 day - 2 PGS normal! yes!!
IVF#6 May 2017 // Antagonist didn't have time for Estrogen Priming...(4 ER, 3 F, 3B) (5AB, (2) 5BB) 2 PGS normal, yes!!
IVF#7 June 2017 // EPP praying this is it and then on to an FET!
@taradise99 congrats on that beta! Wow! Great news
Natural pregnancy resulting in miscarriage (blighted ovum) - 11/14
IUI #1 - miscarriage 12/15
IUI #2 - nothing 3/16
IUI #3 - pregnancy, miscarriage at 9 weeks - 7/16
IVF #1 - in process, egg retrieval on 11/2/16.

@jildsm215- welcome! I really think your clinic should be giving you more updates! No wonder you are stressed. Call them right away tomorrow! Fx for good news!
question for you all... my accupuncturist also thinks I should switch clinics.

@Colleen0516 you're right, DOR sucks. I'm relatively newer in the IVF journey with just one canceled cycle so I'm still holding on my clinic will let me try again instead of going right to donor.
@Hopeful_mom I'm praying for you...I would go for an ER if you have 3. But that's just me.

At my new RE, I see her all the time. There is a girl that does the blood draws, and then she primarily does the sonograms- on Friday, it is a different doctor, but it is still a doctor!! I can always ask questions and they always take the time to answer them. A good RE is priceless!!

@Adoc86 That is a great report! That's still 5 eggs! When is your transfer?
@Hopeful_mom I'm thinking of you!! Hopefully you get to your ER! FX!
shauna43 Yay!! I hope your bean is getting nice and cozy!!
taradise99 congrats on your beta! Cant wait to hear tomorrow!
@jamieh2000 I really think that if it will provide you some piece of mind - you should make a consult appointment. Just so you have it. It can't hurt and you could always cancel it if you don't need it.
Wow, so much going on. I know there are people I missed. Sorry!! I really can't keep up with everything but want to wish all you ladies so much luck!

Ladies.. thank you for all your responses.

3/2016: RE suggested donor eggs- taking an ivf break and to supplement
9/2016: 3rd ivf cycle-cancelled due to early ovulation
Oct./Nov 2016: 4th ivf cycle- EPP-AFC:5, retrieved 10, 10 mature, 8 fertilized with ICSI, 6 blastocysts biopsied and frozen. 3 CCS normal embryos

7/20/17: baby boy born at 30+3 via emergency c-section
@Isthisthereallife & @Kp214 The plan is to do a 5 day transfer with one embryo. Because of my age my RE will only transfer one. I don't know if they will opt for a 3 day if things aren't ideal or not.
I tend to be a pessimist when it comes to myself so in my mind I am assuming this first IVF isn't going to work. I am prepared for that - but I am crossing my fingers that one of these embryos gets to freeze so that I don't have to do another ER if I have to go on to IVF #2. I am in misery right now! I am so bloated that I am expecting the button on my pants to pop off at any moment and fly across the room LOL. I've only gained half a pound (the nurse told me to watch for more than 2 pounds in 24 hours) and I don't have any other symptoms of OHSS, but I am SO uncomfortable. I've been chugging gatorade and just ate some uber high sodium soup so lets hope that helps. This is what I get for having such an easy time with the stims. Ugh! Major props to you ladies that have done this more than once.
