Re: Weekly Randoms (10/10)

  • My bradley class is through a private midwife. We meet in her living room. Very NYC. LOL

I would look into local midwives who are "bradley certified"

I was recommended this class by a friend who I trust. I had no previous knowledge of the bradley method, but I can already feel myself becoming a cult convert.
    Me: 36, H: 37
    FTM, 2 Furbabies
    married 03/17/07
lived in Houston, Austin, Los Angeles and NYC
    due: 2/15/17

  • For those of you attending bradley classes, are they at the hospital you're delivering at? Our hospital is currently on strike, so all classes have been cancelled, and I am getting nervous that we won't be able to get to a class in time...
In my area, Bradley classes are done at an upscale baby boutique, not the hospital.
  • Anyone here a technology guru?!?! My mac laptop has been telling me to update to he new OSX Sierra and started slowing down majorly, so last night I finally did. Now it continuously gets to the same part of the installation process and says it can't continue and I can't restart on the old HD. I haaaaaaaate technology when it doesn't work!!!!

Today is not my day... Broken laptop, dentist poking at my gums (still sore 5 hours later...), annoying parents, major delivery/choosing new hospital and Doctor anxiety, and trying to organize life for our PCS move to Tennessee in December... I may lose my mind over here soon! Can I go back to sleep and start over tomorrow?
Sounds like a really rough day, I'm sorry you've got so much on your plate!
As far as the computer goes, 95% of the time with the macs that I see, the hard drive has failed. New HDDs run $60-70 typically, but Apple makes the OS available for free--as long as you have access to another apple computer. You'll need a 16gb flash drive to make the OS recovery to put on the new HDD. Of course you can always try the flash drive recovery and there's a very slim chance it could be successful. Did you have important data that was not backed up?
  • Well fuck.
My NP, who I adore, is leaving my OB practice.
    I am SO BUMMED.
  • @Patience7150 mine is also offered through a midwife. You might google foe some classes.
  • @Spicyweiner I'm sorry to hear that!

Yeah, she got hired at Kaiser which is probably like double what she's making at a private practice.

Oh HELLS yes. That's why I left my previous private practice job too.
  • I think bees must be attracted to something about my pregnant body. I just got stung for the second time this year. I seriously have no idea of when I got stung last, before this summer. I'm such a baby, but it hurts soooo bad.  :s

  • Checked my bank account and then immediately felt sick to my stomach. I thought by now I'd be making more money and not feel like I'm 22 and struggling so hard. I have I no idea how we are going to support a child.... queue panic attack....
for a second, I read this and was like "I don't remember posting this!"

Cheers for those in the struggle.

Glad I'm not alone....not that I would wish this on you or anyone haha. What sucks is we can't even cheers anything worthwhile... I miss beer :'(
We spent extra money while we were on vacation late August, and we are still playing catch up... not fun at all... if this helps you feel any better at all, I keep telling myself that the baby comes around income tax time!! CHA-CHING!! lol

100% this. How do people afford kids?

I keep asking people in our area/ pay range "how did you afford daycare with the kids?" 100% of the time the answer was either "I quit my job because we couldn't afford it" or "My parents were our daycare."

I don't have either of those options. #panic
  • Life man. Money sucks. Unless you have tons of it, then it's probably fun.
  • @LivingLaVidaGinger That is the WORST. I have trust issues with vets because of this.
  • @LivingLaVidaGinger We just dropped $1500 when my dog was hospitalized with pneumonia a few weeks ago. The bank account took a big hit with that one...
  • @lfrank12 oh wow! I didn't even know dogs could get pneumonia. Emergency visits always result in the biggest bills. I hope your pup is doing okay now!

Haha ya, unless you OWE the IRS money, like I do.  This is why contract jobs suck. I'm still paying off taxes.

  • @LivingLaVidaGinger He is much better now, thank you!!

Yeah I guess in that case income tax time could suck instead lol... my husband claims 0 on our current family of 4 so basically when tax time rolls around my husband and I get as excited as our kids do for Christmas haha

  • I'm with everyone on the daycare cost panic. I have one in preschool and now there will be another for daycare.
  • I get panicked about money...DH tries to remind me that this is what it costs to start a family, and that's helpful but it's still overwhelming.

And I hate taxes! I file self employed so we get hit with absolutely everything, I have a seperate bank account just to save for taxes lol. It really sucked being married with no dependants, our taxes last year were insane. Hopefully once we can claim a good chunk of mortgage interest (and our kidlet too) taxes will be more palatable.
  • Tax time is no celebration for us either... as DINKS thus far, taxes suuuuuuck.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • Having a baby didn't help us with taxes AT ALL only buying a house did.

But this upcoming year with ivf and interest I will be a thousandaire.
  • +1 to DINKs here, although we are technically DINKWADs...Mortgage interest and prop tax deduction is the best thing ever, but we still get hit big at tax time.
  • @scottipino I wasn't sure how to take your message so I just sent a PM...

  • My mom turned her back to pack lunch and I stole the ham and cheese off her homemade breakfast bagel. #sorrynotsorry #noremorse.

I think you mean #noRAMORSE hahahah
  • Also +1 to the #webroke category when it comes to kids. I will be losing money for the next few years until DD moves to regular school because the cost of daycare for two exceeds my paycheck. But I love my job and I know it will be very difficult for me to take a leave of absence and return years later so we are just budgeting HARD and sticking it out until then. It will be nice to get a $1000 a month raise when she moves to kindergarten..
  • So sorry you had a tough day @poetryandoceans! Glad my post was helpful. I am really am amazed at how you guys do that every day!

With you all on the money concerns. We do have family daycare to start, which I'm grateful for, but I don't expect it to last indefinitely and need to have a backup plan in place. Currently I'm just worried about saving for my medical bills. My deductible isn't bad, but our family OOP max is $10,000 so I have no earthly clue what to expect. And no, neither my practice nor my insurance will tell me. I don't think we'll hit the max, based on my statement of benefits (no coinsurance after meeting the deductible, just copayments) but "everyone" tells me I simply must be wrong about that.
  • @yogadevil I totally hear you on the taxes. I just got mine finished last night. Yep, three days before the 6-month extension was up. Because that's how I roll. I only owe $232 so that's a win overall. Being self employed is awful. I'm lucky I have the best accountant ever.

Money really is dumb unless you have tons of it. I am freaking out about money + work + childcare for two kids. Glad I'm not alone.
