@elgie most of these comments came from family... I was honestly pretty shocked that OUR name choice was such a hot topic. If we have another boy and I can convince DH of my #1 name, there will be another fit in the family. But I don't really care because I'm stubborn and it's hard to make me change my mind.

@elgie, we did not share DS's name ahead of time. And we won't with this baby either. When people ask if we have names I say "yes but we aren't sharing yet". Most people are respectful of that.

I've seen lots of people pick and share a name and then later want to change the name but feel pressured not to. I think it's a fun secret to have.

Good for you sticking to your guns! I tend to have thin skin, so I think I would struggle more with that. Maybe I should keep my names to myself then I do know that when my aunt named all 3 of her kiddos (they are quite a bit younger than me) I wasn't crazy about the names (although I would have never shared that sentiment) the name did grow on me. I guess I have to be 1000% sure and set on a name before sharing

I am only 11 weeks along and people are already asking...My sil asked this weekend after we told her the news and when I said "I wasn't sure yet" she got kind of snotty and said "I hope you aren't going to keep that a secret" I am guessing everyone else will be respectful of our decision if that's what we decide.

We will be going to the hospital with at least 2 names...we both feel strongly that we can make that decision without seeing the baby first.

We don't have names picked out or really even narrowed down (I have a feeling we won't get around to it until we know the sex) but I don't think we'll share the name until after he/she is born, because I won't particularly care what anyone else thinks of whatever we choose!

@elgie we shared with our first and it was received well, everyone loved it. With out second, since they're the same sex, we didn't share the name to have some excitement and I enjoyed the surprise and figured people wouldn't have anything bad to say since she was already here and named. I was wrong... My dumbass MIL made some snarky comment in the hospital like "well, I guess I'll just have to get used to (her name)" and I. Was. Pisssssed. Who says shit like that?! Long story short, if someone has something mean to say, they're going to say it regardless, so not sharing until birth doesn't always help. That said, we will be sharing the name whenever we pick one this time. No one cares about a third baby anyways lol

I'm going to tell my mom it's some name I know she'll hate, that way she will hopefully just be relieved it's not the real name. My mom is VERY opinionated so sharing names didn't go well for us last time.

And @KirstinH88 I was told by a friend my daughter's name (Abigail) is a dogs name before we actually used it bc her boyfriends mother's dog was Abby.. my daughter is human (most of the time) despite this.

@HappyAnjel my youngest cousins name is Abigail and I think it's such a beautiful name. And not an animals name at all! People need to stop giving their pets human names. What happened to Spot?

We're keeping our names a secret from friends and family (and not finding out the sex), but I shared on here (Lyra Ann and Milo James), because I'm trusting someone here would point out if they were completely hideous and I am overlooking some obvious/gross nickname that my kid will be teased mercilessly for for their lifetime

We're diehard secret keepers when it comes to names. We can't wait to blab the sex, but not the name. I may post on here if we're having a hard time though. I know certain family members would have hated DS' name, but they have been blissfully quiet. Also we just know a lot of people having babies and don't want the awkwardness of getting our name "stolen".

We don't reveal names until after the baby is born because we change our minds on a whim. We can never stick with a name long enough to commit until the end!

So...what would you ladies think about this. I don't have any kids of movie-watching age yet, and actually don't even own a television, so I'm not the most up to date with pop culture. However, I just found out there is a very popular current children's movie with two sisters who would have the same names as both my kids, if this baby is also a girl and I give her the (very old fashioned, most-people-wrinkle-their-noses) name I adore.

Would this bother you? I am so sad - just had a friend with older kids tell me this, haha.

@ladameperdue it wouldn't bother me at all! Now I'm curious what the names are haha. The only 2 that came to mind are Anna and Elsa. I say go with the name you love no matter what!

If it makes you feel better, I've seen the movie recently and don't even remember the names. I doubt most people, especially adults would make the connection at all!

My favorites are, for boy: Liam Neal (named after grandfather and great grandfather)

For girl: Sophia Moriah (first name because I studied Greek and philosophy, middle name after grandmother)

BUT hubby isn't sold on them, particularly since both are really popular right now. Which is a bummer because I've loved them for years.

DH and I have also loved the name Adele since long before the singer (we're both fans of Jane Eyre), but we don't know if it's a good idea or if everyone will think it's because of the singer. So we may actually go with none of the above. Alas.

I answer if people ask, but I will absolutely not answer any facebook questions regarding names. That's just asking for criticism.

Hubby and I are still bouncing name ideas around. He thinks of middle names along with first names. I feel like that can come after. We both like Desmond and Cade for a boy, but nothing on girls yet. Maybe Kira.

@HGRich my MIL's name is Adela, and we would be naming a daughter after her, but it has already made its way through the family, so we are going with the variation of Adelaide.

I really like the name and all the variations.

2nd question BIL asked was "oh, you need to tell us your name choices". We're like A) we don't have any and

we are't sharing them.

I have a feeling that he may push on on this. Before we were married he was asking our name choices (which of course we had one) but hubby wouldn't tell him. The next day he was asking again...so finally we did BUT now that one is most likely not even in the running.

I feel most people regret sharing them because of people's comments....I super don't want that because I would probably fly off the handle and be upset.

@WkoutMomtoBe that's really strange, why does he care? If it helps, my BIL is 12 and when we were expecting our first, all of his suggestions were sports players! Regardless of sex, he wanted a name like Demarcus or Rajon! Hopefully you'll get better suggestions:)

I'm definitely in the "don't ask, don't tell" school of thought on names. I have zero desire to hear anyone's opinion. My MIL is pretty snobby so she would make it clear whether she liked it or not. Plus, we want to make sure when we see the baby that the name matches the person.

That being said, we can't agree on a boys name! Our favorite for YEARS we no longer like because sooooo many friends have used it and it just didn't feel special any more (Henry).

@cagedisco Same problem!! Five years ago I was all set on Henry. Now with a kid in preschool, we pass by the cubbies and see Henry P., Henry S., Henry B., etc. It was the only one we agreed on. Argh.

Right? And I've loved it since I was a little girl and had a crush on Prince Harry for years :P I know people say it doesn't matter if it's populer. However, my name is really unique and I've always loved being the only one at school with my name. It would make me sad if a kid had to go by a different name or with an initial.

But old fashioned boys names are sooooo "in" right now! Do you have any good backups I can steal?

I know, it's not fair to people who've always loved older names, ha. Just in the past month, two different friends have had a baby Hugh (one in the UK, one in NY) - love that. I also like Frederick (nn Freddy) and trying to convince myself on Albert.

Hugh is cute! I've had too many naughty Freddys in my classes over the years. Being a teacher rules out 90% of names!

I have a HUGE problem with nicknames. I never had one until I was old enough to decide for myself and I'm so grateful for that. But, once again, crazy MIL ruins things. I love the name Abraham but I don't like Abe and I know that's what he'd get called. Somehow MIL came up with the ugliest NN for DD - her name is Lydia and MIL tried calling her "Lyddie" which I can't stand. I guess I should just accept that she will attempt crazy no matter what a good name we come up with. Sighs.

If we have a boy he'll be William Alva Leon (after my husband's grandfather and great grandfather). Girl's names are proving difficult. I love so many of the ultra popular names but growing up as a Megan in the 90s was hell and I don't want my kid to be SonSo L. for their whole lives. That being said we're thinking about Roslin, Adelaide, Genevieve (Evie for short), Emilia, and Avery (which is pretty much out but I still love it).

@Reauxyourboat personal vote for Adelaide! That's our girl name as well. But I don't feel like it's popular enough to have multiple ones in the same class.
