We've been thinking more about boy names, and this weekend we came up with Fletcher Peyton (both last names from grandparents). It sounds very nice with our last name. We also decided we both like the name Hector, but there is no familial significance. I'm just praying we have a girl lol. These boy names are tough. To everyone who said Henry, I absolutely adore the name Henry, but one of my best friends from college has a Henry and I know two or three other people with the name Henry. I feel like I can't use it, and it makes me sad.

our July 4th surprise gender baby's name is Annistyn Nickole pregnant with another surprise gender Baby hoping for a boy so we can name him Mavrick Samuel or Maverick Samuel if a girl I love Penelope Eloise but don't want her name to be shortened to Penny...just like I don't want Annistyn to be shortened to Annie lol I also love Finley Eloise
@HarryPotterandCats With DD my husband vetoed all the names I had picked out, so I gave up and let him name her. Its not like the names I had picked out were bad, they just weren't what he had in mind. For this one he told me I get to pick out the name and he hasn't vetoed my one and only name Owen. We shall see.. It is still early.
DH is already calling him Franco.....I really hope it's a girl so I don't have to call my baby by that name. I pretty much chose DS first name so he thinks he gets dibbs on baby #2.
My DD is named Olivia Violet and this time around boy names I like are Damian,Tristan and Adam and girl I really like Evelyn ( can be called ee-vee for short) now I just have to convince my husband - not sure abouT middle names yet but thankfully have some time to consider
The middle names are family names, and Merida because I have a love affair with the movie Brave. DH picked Isaiah, and I didn't hate it, although I did try to fight back with Elijah. Maybe if we have two boys eventually, we can use Elijah.
We cannot agree on a boy's name to save our marital life together... We have agreed to give the baby his grandpa's name as a MIDDLE name. Warren.... but can't pick a first name.....
We agree on several girl names and variations of girl's name.
We had one boy name, Atticus, and then it started creeping up into the top 100 charts and it made me sad about it... I like names to be unique "enough"... not like bizarre... but it made me feel like I was following some fad all of the sudden.... Sigh.
So stressful.... with my two kids in my previous marriage, I just KNEW. I KNEW that was what I wanted my child to be named... This time its proving to be a lot harder.
I can honestly say that I no longer care whether a name is poplar or not. If I like the name, then that's what I'm going to call my child. Popularity comes and goes. So to chose or not chose a name you love because it's popular for a year or two seems wrong to me. I'm not criticizing in any way, I'm just saying that I no longer care about that. In fact I don't go out there anymore and check the popularity. who cares! lol
I understand @LyssaChap's perspective because I don't want my child to be one of a million Jessica's in her class. With that being said, I named DS Max and then found out that name is growing in popularity. Another mom in my BMB at the time also named her son Max. I figure as long as it's not in the top 100, then (s)he will probably be the only one. With that being said, I don't think you will have a problem with Atticus. It has become more popular now that older/vintage names are on the uprise, but I think it hasn't become too trendy.
Being a daycare worker I am rather picky about names, some have a stigma and make me cringe...DH and Ihave been making lists even before we were married...top girl name is Ella Mara. Ella =MIL (Ellen) + my Grandmother 's middle name (Emma) and Mara is a form of Mary which is the name of both of our maternal Grandmothers.
For boy, toss up between Sean Anthony (DH+my dad) and Robert Francis (one grandfather from either side)
Don't really care about popularity, I want more of a family meaning...
I love seeing all the names! Right now the big contenders if it's a girl are Penelope, Eleanor, and Emilia--with Penelope has the main favorite with both Dh and I. Middle names in my family have to be family names, so we were thinking Eleanor Michelle (Michelle for my mom), and my mom likes Emilia Hannah (one of my sisters)--but I'm not completely sold on that as a middle name. We wanted Norah Michelle for a long time, but we know a Nora at work and she's such a monster that she has pretty much ruined the name for us. For boy names we have a really hard time. Right now we only like Oliver and Eli. The problem is that Dh's last name is just so weird nothing goes with it lol. Even he was like, our kids are screwed haha.
Also, didn't realize we liked a lot of E names until I typed them out....interesting.
My daughter is Nora. everyone I tell her name to loves it so I'm bummed someone else ruined it for you. It's a family name for us and the obvious choice so if we have another girl I will be clueless. Ok, scratch that, I'm clueless either way!
I love Ella! In fact our DD was supposed to be Ella Zoe but when we saw her 30 week 3d ultrasound we decided that Zoe was just the name for her. So now she's Zoe Marie.
and I totally hear you all on the "other kids/people have ruined a name". H and I are in the same boat.
There are so many names I like but DH just keeps saying "I knew so and so and he was a douche so no go...
Last night, we POSSIBLY agreed on one boy's name.....He did not say 'no'... he said "he liked it".... There is a local burger and pub that has the same name, which he was initially like "People are going to think we named our kid after a bar."
Well, no, people will not think we named our kid after a bar, DH................
Our two girls names so far are Vivienne and Adelaide. For a boy we really love Felix, it's the only name we can agree on since our 1.5 year old son got the only other boys name we love (Theodore).
@Koukonei We have the same girls name! Adelaide. I also really like the name Vivienne, but I just had a boss named Viviana and I don't want people thinking I named a baby after her. But very pretty name choices. I also love Theodore/Theo, but DH would never go for it.
@clt2pwm11It's so frustrating, isn't it? Around here, Henry is like the new Jessica in 1980s. I grew up with a very popular name and was always "first name, last initial" in school. I know some kids don't care, but I HATED it. Wish I could be like you @MrsBakes and not let it bother me. I worry about the kid's experience if he/she is anything like me!
@KirstinH88 LOVE Adelaide. I've always liked Adeline but Adelaide is so pretty and different. If it's a girl we're naming her Primrose Lillian (Lillian for her sister who passed away a year and a half ago). And if it's a boy DH likes Memphis .. Me not so much haha. We will see!
@KirstinH88 sorry, I didn't get a notification for some reason that you replied to me! My husband is iffy on Adelaide so far, I'm hoping he comes around haha. We're definitely a fan of older names
DH and I got the Baby Name app and started with boys. We both want a girl so we're pretty much pretending it's a boy to not get our hopes up too much. So far we've only matched on Desmond. I love it, but he wants options. Haha
I'm sure a lot of people will hate it- but I suggested Henric to my cousin, and she ran with it and is naming her son Hendrix James! I think it's so awesome. Her SO is an amazing guitar player, and her 2 other boys are super into music as well so I think it's fitting
I like the name Archer if we have a boy. However, we also watch the show with the same name. DH thinks that is a deal breaker. I think the show won't be on forever, so who cares? I think those that watch it might appreciate the name, and most people don't watch it so they won't know or care.
@Stephout I wanted to name our second daughter Raylan, like on Justified, but DH vetoed it for the same reason. I agree with you, if you like the name, I doubt a TV show will also come to people's minds.
@Stephout my sons name is Archer, he's 2 1/2. I've never had any comments about the show but people always tell me how much they love his name when they hear it! I still love it too, and am afraid if this one is a boy I won't find a name I love as much as his. I would say go for it
I have had a girl name picked out for 7 years, but ended up with 4 boys!! (Plus 2 ss). If I get lucky enough for a girl this time it will be Kimber or Kimberlee Ann Michelle
i have a: kenneth Christopher (KC) Nathaniel Phillip (Nate) Brayden Thomas James John (JJ) (ss) Keegan James Cameron John
if this one is a boy I'm considering Jaxon Lee, but husband doesn't like the first name so that will probably change. I'm going to keep Lee as a middle because it's in our family. Our biggest issue is we have 15 boys for grandsons (3girls) and all the family names have been taken
Our top contenders (and we even agree on them: Bonus!) are: Lyra Ann or Milo James. Ann and James are family names. Another possibility for a girl would be Camille, which would have the nickname of Cam-ee, even though it would be spelled the same, but is the French pronunciation and DH lived in France for a bit.
Our girl name is Ella Jean. Ella for my favorite aunt, who hates her name and doesn't want me to use it, but I think it's beautiful. And Jean for DHs grandmother. Our boy name is not set yet but I really like the name Forest Grayson. Forest is DHs great uncle and Grayson is some kid that was sitting in the booth behind us at O'Charlie's one night. His parents kept telling him to stop doing things and the name kinda stuck in my head.
@Harter5512 One of my top girl names is Camilla. Gotta add the latin flair to it for DH's side of the family. @Virginialeigh HAHA! How funny that one of your names is after some random rambunctious boy!
DH's family has a thing with boy names. All the boy names start with B and middle name starts with E so our top two boy names are Bradley Ethan (Bradley after my cousin who was killed and Ethan is my DH's middle name) or Beckett Ethan.
Girl name is set because it's been my girl name for 10 years. Raelynn Taylor.
We have several names for both, but we just can't seem to get serious about any of them because we don't know the gender. We struggled big time with boys names at first and now my favorite #1 boys name is my absolute favorite. I have no preference on boy vs. girl, but this name makes me want a boy more
Will you guys be sharing your names with friends/family before the baby is born or will you be keeping it a secret? I have gone back and forth between both...I don't want opinions, but the first question anyone ever asks is "do you have any names yet?" and I always want to answer
@elgie I will be sharing. But be aware that everyone is going to have something to say about your name. I'm not sure why people choose to ignore "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all," especially to pregnant women. When we announced that we would be naming DS Max, we got so much $h!+ about it. "It's a dog's name," "That name is ugly," "Are you serious?!" But you just have to be prepared for all the crap that comes out of people's mouths. They will love the baby regardless of name, so I'm not sure why it is such a big deal to everyone else. I honestly couldn't imagine DS with any other name. It fits him perfectly!
@elgie We didn't tell anyone DS's name and will be doing the same this time around. I actually think we may keep the sex of both babies a secret as well this time around!
@elgie , we will not be telling anyone the name. Same reason that we may not tell people the babys' sex. I dont want ANYONES opinion. I don't want people obsessing over what is in between my babys' legs. If I don't care, they shouldn't either. The only thing anyone should care about is that this baby will be healthy and incredible.
