This is only tangentially related to the nursery, but DS is sleeping in his big boy bed for the first time tonight, moving out of the crib (and the nursery) into his new room. I have The Feelz about that. He's almost 3.5, so keeping him IN the crib until this point is pretty impressive but... he'll be starting preschool in September, he's going to sleep in a real bed... my baby isn't a baby anymore!

Thanks for the input! We'll probably go for medium-ish curtains. The bedroom is right in front of a T in the road, so I don't want them too sheer because I don't want the world seeing in.
Definitely do not want our son going to college and still needing a noise machine, but I really like the idea of self-soothing @sourlemon. Decisions.
@emisi Big Night! With capital letters! Hopefully you can be as strong as he probably is excited
@scatherinem my take on your questions is that, when it comes to the newborn stage, you do what you have to do to survive and get a good night's sleep. With my DS, that meant a white noise machine of some kind was non-negotiable. If this LO is the same, so be it. It's not a big concern to me because I still need white noise to sleep and I still do pretty well with adulting. I download a white noise app when I'm out of town and that works just fine.
I've never done blackout curtains for DS (or us), so I don't plan to with this LO. If it was necessary for sleep, I would, though.
We bought this adorable tree with animals that can go in and out of the tree through holes and the door to go with the woodland theme for the nursery. It will be decoration that can also be a toy later. Oh and I know the husky isn't a woodland creature, but that's the type of dog we have... So we figured we might as well stick it in there haha.
@BabyRobbinsAdventure that is so cute! Where did you get it, I want to copy you, hahaha!
Unfortunately we got it at a little gift shop in a forest in California, so you probably won't be able to go there to get one... BUT the brand is Unipak, and a quick Google search shows you can get them online

I started really looking last night into bedding sets and what colors we may want to go with (along with what to neutrally paint the walls) in the babies room... and it just got so overwhelming. I know what we're doing for a theme (some woodland stuff, as DH is into hunting), but not sure what colors to do yet. I love the idea of using arrows in something, but also thought just using solid colored sheets would also be fine. We hope to move in the next year, so we want it to be cute but yet not put much work into it. I'll save that for the next house!
I think it doesn't help that the room we're using is still full of other stuff, so I can't visualize or make notes of what could go where. We have to move a bed, dresser, and other odds and ends (including clearing the closet... where is this stuff going to go???). Ugh! So many decisions, ha.

@Kacie209 As soon as you said woodlands/hunting and arrows I remember seeing this when I was looking for my bebedding. I just ordered mine from list lady. It'll take 7-8 weeks to ship, so I can't say much about the quality yet.
@tinattt23 That is super cute! I appreciate the information and will check out that Etsy shop! I haven't seen a ton in stores (or online) that I have loved, but have been scouring Etsy since I love buying from individuals and helping their business out.

I love everyone nursery photos and ideas! I just got my fabrics in and I am so excited how they all look! I ordered from Fabric.com and it was super easy. I already have made my Boppy cover and four crib sheets, two flannel and two Cotton. Starting little boys baby quilt and minky blanket next!! Fox theme and Aztec prints are the more prominent.
Okay, so I'm going through some suggested baby stuff lists on Pinterest and something unfamiliar to me popped up - a sleep sack. I googled it, so I understand what it is, sort of... Do I need that? Are those safe? Recommended? I was 13 when my sister was born and I don't remember her ever having one.

Yes definitely get a sleep sack or 50. Part of it depends on what you want...some of them have velcro swaddler wings, some have flaps that fold over, and others are basically sleeves with a bag.
We never truly swaddles dd1 because she would break out of it immediately, even in the hospital! The nurses suggested getting a halo swaddle sack. We used a few types those first 4 months.
It's not safe to have blankets in the crib, but babies still need to be warm...and sleep sacks are great for that.
Here's DD the night we brought her home. This sleep sack had removable swaddle wings and she loves having her hands up. Eventually we would wrap the wings around her chest for that tight feeling, but we left her arms out. She slept with her arms behind her head haha.
@sourlemon I have the same pack n play! I am so excited to get all the newborn infant stuff out again once this little guy is here. I think we will even use that instead a bassinet in our bedroom for the first few months. Love love the baby cradle and sound machine.
@caseyewhitaker Yes register for sleep sacks in all sizes! My son slept in them instead of a blanket until 1 1/2. A lot more safe than a swaddle blanket if you have a child that likes to move around in their sleep. Our hospital provides one to all new babies. They are wonderful and easier to use than a swaddle blanket.
I'm loving all the nursery progress people have made so far! It's motivating- thanks!
Was as hoping to get some opinions on where to put the nursery- we live in a 3 bedroom 1.5 story house. FTM. We have the master upstairs with bathroom and the other 2 rooms and other bathroom on the main level. We have a small 8x7 area with slopped ceiling in our bedroom that could be used as a nursery area or we can make our current office on the main level into a nursery.
I not sure which to do because I don't know how comfortable I would be sleeping upstairs and my baby downstairs. The baby will be in our room for the first 4-6 months or so, but then should we have her upstairs with us or on the main level in her own room?
Would appreviate any opinions or experience from STMs. Thanks!!
Not a glamorous picture, but I cleared out Ashton's closet! His room used to be the office, so it was filled with a lot of Christmas stuff. Hung up some of his sleepers, and put our diaper and wipes stockpile in there. Hoping to get some canvas baskets to store other stuff, and hopefully we'll get his toy box bench soon to place all of his toys in.
Cool thing--I realized I already bought Christmas cards and wrapping paper during after-Christmas sales last year. Huzzah!
I need to paint and put stuff on the walls, but this is the set I'm
using. I've already bought everything, and it's sooooo cute! It's
Levtex Fiona Fox and you can get it at Babies R Us, if anyone's
interested. More pictures to come after painting and decorating!
Also, I have since learned that bumpers are dangerous, so the crib bumper is going to come out, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
This is where I am. We're not emptying the room or painting or moving furniture until at least September. I have more canvases to paint as Inthink I'm doing a gallery wall somewhere plus corner shelves. Plus the you are my sunshine matte I either want to paint yellow or spray paint the actual frame gold as I have two other 8x10 frames to make gold too for prints
I am starting to nest! Deep clean for our master (planning another in early December) made room in my closet and got crap out! I emptied 3 drawers in our dresser and got my bitty newborn items in it already!!!
And best of all I ordered some cozy flannel to make some packnplay sheets with and a new diaper changer cover. I'll post photos when they arrive.
DH built Ashton's crib! I tried out the sheets and quilt from Land of Nod on the mattress to see how it will look, but I'll wash them before he gets here. This is the nursery so far, and I am loving it. Tomorrow he is building the bench toy box, and then all that will be left is a yellow striped rug and woodland decorations. I want to put a teepee in here, but still debating if it will fit.
My goal is to have the nursery done by the 3rd trimester, and I think we are well on the way there!
@dmontgo Love it! We are doing a camping theme and plan on doing a teepee when Rhett is a little older and will actually enjoy being able to use it. You might have room for one once some of the baby things move out of his room.
DH got the bench toy box together! It's the last major thing the nursery needs. Going to get a colorful rug for the empty space (pardon the random bags) and some more artwork for the walls to give it a more woodland feel. Decided not to get a teepee for now since I don't want to block that awesome natural light coming in. I really love how everything is coming together. Need a colorful changing pad cover too. Sorry about all the photos the past 2 days!
