WTF! I washed and dried all of baby's outfits on the delicate cycle last night. I did not overdry them. They shrunk!!! Like a lot!! Carter's and Gerbers! My friend said that Carter's definitely shrinks, but Gerbers should still fit. Ughhhhhhhh
I'm a FTM so I am only speaking from looking at them, but I foung the Gerbers stuff runs kind of small, even before washing them. I found their 0-3 months onesies are the same size as NB size for other brands! Sorry your clothes shrunk, though... for mine, I set them to tumble dry in low and took them out when they were just dry, not even warm. But this is probably the same thing your delicates cycle does
May as well just dry them and then have the baby wear them whenever they fit.
This is why beyond 6 months most of my son's wardrobe is Gap because I've never had shrinkage issues with them. Early on you might go through several outfits a day so most of our stuff is Carters, but I don't buy carters for my 2 yo.
We have a Carter's outlet store close to us and I was really excited to shop there once I knew the gender of the baby. I probably will still shop there a bit if prices are great, but will definitely try to steer clear of Carter's and Gerber if I can help it.
My little man is 1.5 and with a Carter's Outlet in the next town over, he still wears a majority of Carter's clothing. Even if things shrink a bit, we buy in advance (bought his 18 month old clothes when he was a year old) so we can tell when he's going to fit into it. He's a very average sized 19 monther now and still fitting into most of the 18 month stuff, just onesies are getting to be short, and we'll pull out 2T at that point.
I started folding the onesies and I'm thinking, "Well, hopefully the child eventually wants a dollhouse because we'll have the outfits for the dolls already!"
Carters has so many sales that I never buy it at more than 50% off. And prices/sales are actually the same at the Carter outlet stores as regular Carter stores. At least here there is no difference.
@AlwaysAuntNeverMom - Same. I need to run to Target to get some things that I actually want to look at instead of having DH just pick them up. Guaranteed I'll be off of my feet for the rest of the day afterward though because I'll be in so much pain.
@fireflygirl12 - we always hit up sales/doorbusters and coupons. I have a hard time buying the Carters that they sell at other stores, like Target.. because it's so much cheaper at the outlet. I've never been to a non-outlet Carter's though, so can't speak to that.
@AnnaS930 DS1 wore Carters onesies through 24 months because I like being able to layer with them but I find the shirts/pants shrink too much for us and so they don't last too long before he looks like he's ready for a flood. He is pretty tall though and even though he just turned 2 3 months ago is solidly in Gap size 3. He tends to not outgrow their clothes as quickly. Although I will say the Target brand has held up great, too. He has several shorts and tees that have fit him well all summer.
For Summer clothes I ended up buying a few pairs of shorts at Walmart (Garanimals brand). The kid is constantly rolling around in the dirt, so I don't need high quality clothes, I need cheap that I don't mind tossing if ruined (for outdoor play obviously, not for nice going out clothes). The shorts were $2.88, and fit him really well - they have much narrower waists than Carters which seems to think Emmett's waist should be twice the circumference that it is.. he's a pretty lean kiddo at 24.5 pounds.
@diagonalley usually the 24mo pants (jeans/cargo) have a button up crotch and a little bulkier to allow for diapers too. Apparently your kid should be PT'd by 2T!
I'm freaking out. Just had our growth u/s and baby is now measuring 4 weeks ahead and already over 7 lbs (at 34w1d gestation). DH doesn't seem to get how this could be a problem, and just kind of smirked when I said something. He backpeddled once I started freaking out on him. Right now I'm in the OB's office by myself (sent him home because McKenna was with us and getting antsy) trying not to cry and waiting to hear what the OB says about this.
On a positive note, we saw her doing A LOT of practice breathing on the u/s and NST went well.
@annas930 agreed on Carters in other stores. Except for Kohls! They usually are 40-50% off there, plus the in-store 15-30% off coupon and Kohls Cash if you time it right

My mom grabs E some Carter's clothes at Kohls and Sams club... I've definitely seen some good deals at Sams though their selection is super limited (might have a few different rompers in the summer, etc). I'm anti-Kohls for no real reason other than not liking it in there.. but can appreciate a good deal!
Glad the nst looked good @camichael84. Does your OB induce for size? Mine usually only does if the mom is on the smaller side and I think after 38w b/c there is a pretty big +/- margin on the growth scans.
Sending happy vibes that your OB will say nbd and all is well
Re Carters clothes: McKenna owns a lot of Carters and always has. Never any sizing issues for us. She's a bit above average in height and weight-- was 84th and 75th percentiles, respectively at 18 months. Weighs 25.5 lbs now at nearly 23 months (feel stupid putting her age in months at this point, but whatever), and is in 24 months/2T. Unless she hits a big growth spurt, she should stay in that size throughout the rest of the year.
The brands we've had issues with having to buy big because they run small are The Children's Place, BRU's brand of clothing (Kola Kids), and Target brand pants (Circo).

TBH, I still buy a ton of the kids clothes at Walmart because of the price. At 6 1/2 years old they are still pretty tough on clothes and I'd rather not spend a ton on their clothes when I know that 1) They're going to outgrow them pretty quickly and 2) They're going to end up with holes in the knees of their pants/leggings due to playing rough outside so much. Not to mention they're using paint and glue and markers at school and that all gets on their clothes and doesn't always come out. I'd rather that happen to a shirt that I paid $4 for than a shirt that I paid $10 for!
@fireflygirl12 I'm not sure if she does. Never had any size issues with my first, but I'm hoping she will bring it up today. If not, I will ask. Because of my GD (the reason I'm sure she's so big), I know I won't go to 40 weeks. With my first she was adamant we not induce before 39, but everything always looked good that pregnancy.
@camichael84 - Thinking of you. It can be a scary place to be. Take deep breaths and know that you have been doing everything right, especially since your GD diagnosis. Keep us updated.
I'm glad to hear Layla was doing her practice breathing though! That's awesome.
@camichael84 age in months is acceptable to 2 years
Maybe my kid isn't rough enough (although I'm totally allowed to take that back when I have two boys playing together!) But we haven't had issues with clothes being ruined from play. And even though I primarily go with Gap now, it's only when stuff is 50% or more off or clearance that I save for the next year! (Speaking of, Gap is currently 50% off right now in store!) I also have their cc so get rewards from them pretty frequently.
@UnwritteN12 - yes! I am experiencing why so little clothes gets handed down once you hit 18months+. All of our younger clothes is basically spotless.. all of Emmett's current clothes has stains, but I'm not buying new clothes for him to go to daycare and stain those too! He has a tendency to push markers against his torso to get his hand further down on them.. so within the first few minutes of every day, he has marker ALL over this clothes. And let's just say.. washable marker does not wash out that well, and no chance for pens. Hence why he still wears a lot of the onesies that come in 4 or 5 packs from Carter's on super sale, or doorbuster $3 t-shirts. We will have almost nothing unstained (other than some nice clothes that we don't let him color in..ha! and pajamas) in 18 months worth saving for this 2nd baby.
@AnnaS930 Have you tried the color wonder markers? They are awesome because they only work on the special paper! Although if he likes to color daily that'd get super pricey. I found a blank book for DS1 to color on with them which has worked well but he goes for it every few days.
@camichael84 - just want to echo what others are saying in that you've done an amazing job and Layla will do fantastically whenever she (and/or your OB) decide it's time for her to be Earth-side. You've worked so hard and done all that you can to handle GD and are of no fault for growing your baby so well. Hang in there and I hope you get some answers.
Sometimes sending the husband home with the kiddo is a blessing... get those distractions outta there for now and focus on you and Layla!!
@camichael84 hope that you get good news from your doctor. Sending good thoughts and vibes your way. And so glad to hear about the practice breaths and good NST test
@diagonalley - yes! We have a color wonder set that we take places (like my doctor's appointments) when we don't want to worry too much about E being unsupervised and decorating someone's carpets/walls/etc. but like you said, is a bit pricey for home daily use. At home he uses crayons 99% of the time, and this amazing Melissa and Doug Water Wow! booklets (with water the cardboard pages change color, then dry white again to be reused. Fantastic!!!), but at daycare it's straight up Crayola markers, and I can't blame them for that. Also because he's at daycare the stains sit for 8+ hours before we'd be able to soak, so we just send him in cheap clothes and don't fret over it!
A local mom friend is posting all kinds of pics of a little road trip they are taking (about 2.5 hours away) for her kiddo's 1st birthday today. He's forward-facing in his carseat. Yes, he's a bigger kid, but he's a year old. There's no way he needs to be FF. Ugh, that awkward - we're mom friends who have hung out a handful of times and I don't know IF I should say anything as I'm SURE she knows the risks so I'm going to come off as judgy not informative, blah blah blah - sometimes I just wish I wasn't friends with people on FB. haha
@camichael84 liked your post for support. Thinking of you and hoping the appointment goes well. Sounds like the NST and everything else is perfect. Try not to stress until you talk to the doctor. Fingers crossed you get some good news.
