@AnnaS324 - I understand you not wanting to say anything. My BIL and his wife were posting so many car photos on FB and their car seat use was absolutely horrible! Forward facing at 1 year, straps so loose that they were falling off the shoulders, and chest clips way down by the belly. My relationship with them is awkward and I am not close, so I didn't want to say anything and rock the boat. Then one day, I couldn't take it anymore and actually commented on a picture, nicely reminding them to make sure the straps are snug and chest clip is at chest height. I hated calling them out, but it was frequently and consistently bad. I was incredibly nervous about how they would react - I was worried I was giving them a good reason to justify their apparent dislike of me. BIL promptly deleted the comment and now they hardly ever post car seat pictures (or they block me from seeing them). Thankfully, there was no other fallout. Relationship continues to be just as awkward as it always has been. I would be surprised if they actually improved their car seat fastening skills.
@AnnaS930 I experienced similar a few weeks ago when I saw a girl I went to college with with her not even 1 year old forward facing. I ultimately felt like it wasn't my place to say anything, but I couldn't believe how early he was faced forward.
@camichael84 sending good vibes your way. Keep doing what you're doing
@marajay6 and @Thscary - it's a tough spot to be in. She's really not dense at all, she seems to be up on baby knowledge, etc.. so I just can't imagine that she doesn't know how much safer it would be.. so who am I to say something if I don't feel like I'm telling her something she doesn't know (loose straps/chest clip I feel is less common knowledge than rear facing). I'm just at a loss.. it anything I will private message her, but I really don't think I'll say a thing.
@camichael84 Keep us posted with what your OB says about Layla's size! I can imagine the freak-out moment(s) you went / are going through! Glad to hear she was looking good on the NST, though!
Oh, and another lover of Color Wonder over here! They do get expensive so if I ever see them on sale, I buy them up (even if they're superhero or something DD's not as interested in - who cares, she just scribbles on them anyway)! Oh, and they make great gift requests (like when you're having a birthday party for your LO and everyone asks what he/she needs. Color Wonder, please!)
Every time I turn my head something happens! CONGRATS on your sweet little man, @csukkha !
I had my work baby shower today... mind totally blown at my office's generosity. I'll post pics on a shower thread in a minute... since I have been out of the office for a few days I really have developed a backlog of work. Makes me so nervous for maternity leave and coming back in December (let's be real: January).
@camichael84 waiting for a great update, hopefully! I echo what others have said. Yes, it is certainly a stressful situation to deal with right this minute but you have done an amazing job growing this baby and doing all in your power to get that GD under control. Not everyone is as diligent as you have been about this! I hope she's able to appease your thoughts and I'm sure beautiful Layla is going to do great, no matter what happens.
Man alive it takes forever to catch up on this board!!
@csukkha congratulations on the arrival of Issac! He looks absolutely beautiful I hope you're settling in and he's doing well in the NICU!! All the best.
@camichael84 - That size estimate must have been a shocker! I am curious what your OB is going to suggest. I don't have my growth scan for another couple of weeks (36 weeks) and I am both excited and nervous. I am pretty sure I will request a 2nd scan to confirm size if they feel that baby is large enough to induce me early.
Thanks, everyone for the positive thoughts! OB was amazing (as she always is) at calming my fears. She's very happy with where my sugar has been, and said at the levels I am at the chances of her having lung or sugar problems are slim. She did warn jaundice could be a problem, but we dealt with that with McKenna, so I know what to expect there.
She said her size is just a very common thing that happens with GD, and she isn't worried about it since she did so well on the NST and looks good on the u/s. She also said with her being my second that a vaginal birth is completely doable.
And lastly, we have an induction date! She does want to induce in the 38th week because of the GD and her size, so September 1 is the day!
Also, I have to admit she threw out Aug 30th initially because that is the day I'm 38 weeks exactly. I asked for the 1st because I have been so set on having my two September babies.
@camichael84 Woohoo! Congrats on induction date! I'm glad your OB was good about everything today we have the same due date but sounds like you're going to meet your LO first!
@Megan324 I have what I like to call a soft outie. It's out there but it gets squished flat with the full panel of the maternity pants so it's only visible with a bare belly or half panel pants. Unless baby girl is pressed up against it. I had never been so descriptive of my belly button before.
@camichael84 omg, you have a date! How exciting!! It's amazing to think you'll meet your baby on or before 9/1
@camichael84 good!! So excited for her to come! I feel the same way, I hope Claire doesn't come in October because I want 2 September girls! All the Sapphires!
@AnnaS930 my best friend just sent me a pic a friend of hers posted of their kid, under a year old, forward facing....in the front seat. She also sent a picture about 5 months ago of the same baby in the back seat, forward facing in an infant carrier seat, which isn't even made to face forward. Kills me.
@camichael84 woohoo! That's so exciting to have a date!! And awesome that your OB is so supportive makes a huge difference
@Megan324 mine is totally flat too, it's weird. And I'm definitely kicking myself for getting that belly button piercing when I was 16, because it looks awful right now. DH is totally fascinated by my belly button, it's weird.
@camichael84 your OB sounds amazing I'm so glad everything looks good. You've been doing so much to keep your GD under control and I'm happy its all paying off and Layla should be in the clear. Yay september babies!
@camichael84--congrats on your induction date and yay for an OB who calms fears. I have one of those too. The best.
As for clothes and shrinkage...we get almost everything from a consignment store, so they are all Pre-shrunk! It helps because I can eyeball sizes accordingly.
In other very important news.... who here in Randoms is also ridiculously excited for the Olympics?! Go USA! (Or I guess Canada, if that's your thing).
@camichael84 I'm so glad ob was able to calm your nerves and that you have a date! That's so exciting!
@Megan324 I've had an outie for a while now. The other day my 16yo SIL said it looks like someone is poking it from the inside. I was like, yes, that is exactly what is happening!
Re: car seats. It definitely makes me cringe when I see 1 year olds FF. Ultimately I just judge based on my relationship with the person as to whether I say something or not. I look back at how I brought DD home (in a big thick snow suit type outfit) and can't believe how little I knew about car seat safety. I wish someone had told me. If someone had a 1 year old in the front and a 7 month old FF in a RF infant seat? I don't care who you are, you're getting a message from me. That's unacceptable.
Its the local news demonstrating how to rear face a child since in PA they have to be rear facing until 2 and the toddler is NOT ON BOARD. It's pretty relatable.
@KimmySchmidt yes! So funny. I luckily haven't had issues with my 20 month old. I think it will be harder for the second when big sister gets to turn around and she doesn't, but we'll see.
@fireflygirl12 haha... I am still an innie for now but definitely stealing that term. I don't even have other kids, I just want to creep out my husband.
@PoodleDoodleOoo I'm pumped for the Olympics! We have been watching the soccer games already, I love the US women's team. Hope Solo is a badass, even if she does get booed everytime she gets near the ball. Haters gonna hate. I'm excited for gymnastics this year, watching Simone Biles at the trials was crazy. She's a tiny little thing but she's a powerhouse.
I'm curious to see how DS2 reacts when we flip DS1, which we need to do when baby comes. He turned 2 in April, so at least he's past the initial recommendation if he insists on flipping like his brother.
This past year I worked for one year as a part time teacher in the local middle school. It went well enough, I really hit it off with my colleagues. All my reviews went fine. Got along with people. No major bumps. Well, this fall, the job turns full time, and in fact, an additional job (that is a better fit) opens up. I have to reapply. I apply for the better-fit job. They knew about this vacancy in April, and still, they did not run demo lessons until the last week of school in June.
Demo lesson went fine, but of course I was however pregnant I was. like 26 weeks or thereabout. Obviously pregnant. (Even though I did not discuss it with my administrator, in accordance with the advice I was given by my union.) Long story short(er), the administrator calls me in July to tell me he hasn't seen enough candidates and that he's re-posting the job. There is no summer program where he will be able to see others demonstrate a lesson.
Today I got the call that they hired someone else. I didn't even want the job that badly, I was going to take the entire school year off anyway. I asked him if there was anything he would have liked to seen me to differently in the demo lesson or over the course of the past year. Literally his only criticism was that I didn't walk around the room enough during the demo.
I feel like shit. I take a lot of pride in my work and have never received any seriously negative feedback or had any problems in my 9 year career. I earned tenure in my last (and only previous) district. I made it to the final rounds of interviews for ALL the jobs I applied for when I took this job last year.
I suspect I was discriminated against. (And one of my colleagues actually brought that idea up to me first, so I don't think I'm crazy.)
In an emotional state of mind I sort of told H he wasn't being as emotionally supportive as I needed him to be. I have been holding down the fort for a while now and I'm just purely exhausted, I guess there's no other way to explain it. He felt really bad and told me to go rest and take a nap. So I did- a two hour nap. When I woke up he said he got a babysitter and is taking me out tonight to finally celebrate my birthday. It will be low key but he got us tickets to see Bad Moms at iPic and we'll have a nice quiet dinner. Maybe a date night is what I need!
@KimmySchmidt that really sucks . I am sure you were discriminated against, especially since they couldn't provide a valid criticism of your lesson, yet they went as far as to re-post the position. Sucks that discrimination can be so hard to prove, also sucks that school hiring tends to be super political (at least where I live)
Grr our central air went out while we were at work. Positive is it should be a cooler weekend, negative is it gets hot and sticky next week and they can't come out to look at it until Monday afternoon
@KimmySchmidt that sucks. I think I remember you talking about the interview process when it was happening? it definitely sounds like discrimination and I'm sorry
@MrsVoorhees I thought you might understand my weird desire to have two September babies!
@KimmySchmidt That sucks, and I also agree you were probably discriminated against. Hopefully, all this just leads to a better opportunity when you're ready to go back after baby is born.
Re: August Randoms!!!
BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18

It's not an outie but it like flat flat

Edited bc the bump ate my post
@yellowrose314 my old belly button piercing looks so gross. Thanks 18 year old me!
@camichael84 glad your ob calmed your fears and yay for a date! I'm thinking I'm going to end up with 3 August babies which I did not want.
Great news @camichael84, I'm glad she was able to ease your fears.
My belly button has been sticking out for months! DS2 referred to it as "mommy's penis?"
@camichael84--congrats on your induction date and yay for an OB who calms fears. I have one of those too. The best.

Actually pretending to work may have been more difficult than actually working but meh.
