Symptoms Thread - August!

I'll start it since I have a new one!

anyone else have pain in your pee-hole? Urethra, I guess? It's not like a UTI, no burning or anything. It hurts when I need to pee but not while, and it hurts when she kicks/hits that area (still hoping its hits, be head down!!) I have an appointment Wednesday, I'll bring it up then. Do you know if a UTI ever feels this way?

ETA: changed the title so it's not confused with August Randoms :)

Re: Symptoms Thread - August!

  • @MrsVoorhees - I might have had that while walking the dog last night. Every step was painful, but the pain was so far forward it really felt like my urethra. I even said to my husband "it feels like I'd imagine a UTI, only it's definitely not. Not when I pee, doesn't burn.. just stabbing pain in my urethra"  He seemed less than interested, hahaha.  After 1/4 mile it subsided but it was not pleasant.

Yeah, no burning! It's almost like there's something in it. Like a needle, but not that dramatic. lol
  • @MrsVoorhees - so weird, I've had a lot of pubic bone pain the last few days.. I think baby moved down some. And of course have had some cervix head butts/lightning vag.. but this was frontal stabbing, nothing I've had before.  It's not here today, hoping it was a fluke??

  • I've been having contractions for several weeks now but I noticed a new accompanying symptom last night. I keep getting the urge to poo but when I try to go I get a very strong contraction! ?!?
I'm able to go normally (when I am not having contractions) and I'm not constipated.

    What the heck?
  • @MrsVoorhees Baby's been hitting that area for me for a few weeks now.  Sometimes I think it's a direct headbutt, sometimes I think it's a strike to the nerves that go to that area.  The painful ache when needing to pee is often my first sign, since that usually hits me before the full-bladder sensation.  In my experience, a UTI feels a bit similar, but would last longer, definitely hurt when peeing, and be less associated with movements like walking.  I'd still ask, though, since that could all be different with a pregnancy UTI!

@reesaXden Not sure if it's a sign of anything more, but the muscles you use to poop are the same you use to push, so maybe it's just triggering a contraction since it's the same sensation?  I'd definitely check in with your OB about it, since we're all hitting the "danger-zone" for go-time and any increase in contractions would freak me out!

  • My hands and feet are so swollen. Drinking water helps a little, but I had to take off my rings last week, and I don't foresee putting them back on until after delivery. August pregnancy is no joke. I never had this much swelling with my first.

  • every time I bend over I throw up in my mouth a little. UGH. it's gross and I really have no other symptoms of acid reflex

  • My BH have become a bit more uncomfortable, more pressure and having to consciously breathe through them. But they're still sporadic. H doesn't understand that when a more painful one starts and I let him know, it's because I usually need sympathy / to sit quietly. He just panics and yells "Drink some water!!!" Thanks dude. I will do that once this subsides in about 45 seconds, but if you continue to shove water in my face and pepper me with questions, I am not responsible for your hurt feelings when I glare at you while enduring this.
  • @TheTamedShrew - I made the decision to take off my wedding ring on Saturday when for the first time it was actually uncomfortable because of how tight it was (couldn't spin it on my finger). Told myself I wouldn't put them back on until after baby when swelling goes down.  Now I have my high school class ring on (weighed the same in high school as I do now.. only it was NOT all belly, haha) and it's super loose... tempting me to put that wedding ring back on, but I know I shouldn't..

  • Another lovely symptom - my braxton hicks (if that's what they are) have become a little bit painful.. like a period cramp. I've had a lot of tightening but it just felt tight, not crampy at all (unless I was on a long walk at the time).  Now a couple of the recent ones (last night and this morning) cause a real cramp feeling... nothing I need to breathe through, just unpleasant and noticeable.  Don't remember them feeling like this last pregnancy, but who knows...

  • @AnnaS930 I tried putting mine back on a couple of days ago and it was a no go. The upside is that I keep trying to convince myself that 5 lbs of my weight gain MUST be just straight water. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

5 pounds of water, 5 pounds of baby.. I can handle taking 10 pounds off of my total gain ;)

  • One of my good friends who had a September baby had to get her rings cut off in the ER after trying a lot of other uncomfortable ways to remove them. I can still get mine on and off but I am not wearing them because that idea makes me want to vomit. I also think if grocery store clerks assume I am a single mother they are more likely to help me to my car, so, win win (although maybe assuming I have an unhelpful spouse is just as good?).

  • Last night I was walking and my hip gave out. I would have just straight fallen if FI wasn't there to catch me.
It took like 30 mins to be able to put pressure on my leg again.
I have no idea what happened

We sold maternity support bands in a medical supply store I used to work in and we had a girl come in to get one because her hips would pop out of place because her body made too much relaxin. Do you feel like it may have come out of place?

@MrsVoorhees I know this pain you speak of and I'm pretty sure it's pee being forced into or otherwise trapped low in your Urethra. This can CAUSE a UTI (which is why prego ladies are more likely to get them) but isn't a UTI. Since there's less room in your bladder and baby is pushing on said bladder at different times, little trickles can escape into your urethra and cause some irritation. Also, if you've peed recently and your bladder/urethra didn't empty all the way this can cause some of that sharp pain that you feel.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to remedy it. I just drink a lot more water. I'm not sure if that actually works as it comes and goes on its own anyway.

My symptoms: Heat is not my friend. It's tried its best to get me to pass out twice this vacation, but I refuse! And it's always shaded heat, I guess because the sun isn't beating down I don't realize I'm too hot until I am. Sleep is still difficult to come by. I awake around 2:30am most mornings but I've beat it a little bit by getting up out of bed and going and laying on the couch. I usually fall back to sleep within 30 minutes and when I wake up again a few hours later I'll get up and go back to bed. I guess the change of scenery helps me get back to sleep? Who knows.

  • @MrsVoorhees I've been getting that pain every once in a while for weeks! I might have even mentioned it in the June symptoms thread. It hurts similar to UTI pain but no burning or other symptoms and it's not constant. I notice it must depend on her position since it's not all the time and it coincides with her rolling/moving her head. When it happens, it's typically when I'm walking (with each step) and it's sometimes strong enough that I have to cross my legs and stop for a few seconds! I sometimes feel that she's going to push pee out of me lol

My BH have been painful too! I started feeling them around 18w and told my doctor they were like period cramps. They've gotten progressively worse and now feel like they start as a period cramp, move up my belly and to my back and last 60-90 seconds. It's not fun and I do have to breathe and relax through them but as long as they're not regular I don't worry.

Wedding ring: I haven't been able to wear mine since about 8 weeks haha. I have a lot of water retention and my fingers have looked like giant sausages since the first tri.

  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom the more I think about it, the more I think this happened last pregnancy too. Because I remember my Dr saying that she wouldnt be concerned unless me pee was cloudy or looked different and there was burning. Such an annoying feeling though!!

ive had BH a lot too, I never had them last time. Such a weird, uncomfortable feeling.

Ive also had what feels like it's gojng th be diarrhea, but nothing happens. But it's not a contraction unless it's just a really, really long one.
  • I am so impressed at the ladies who are still wearing their wedding rings - I gave up at 16 weeks and bought a cheap set on Amazon, and now I am outgrowing that. :( I have tiny sausage fingers at this point, how much more swollen can they get???

I honestly thought baby was coming on Saturday evening. I felt SO uncomfortable, and was having major back pain in my upper/middle back. I realized it was happening rhythmically, every 10-15 minutes or so. It was worse when I sat down, better if I was up and moving and lasted for hours. I still don't really understand what Braxton hicks contractions feel like or if I am having them already, but maybe that's all it was. One bonus - my house is cleaner than it's been in weeks and my hospital bag is packed. That's what a labor panic does to me apparently!

  • Feeling miserable. Swollen feet and hands, acid re-flux and heart burn, trouble sleeping, BH contractions, and constant need to pee. I am so glad this will be over soon.
  • @MrsVoorhees maybe?? I'm not sure what that would feel like.
It's fine now but it was really weird

  • @KimmySchmidt - I had a similar experience in losing the weight super fast in those first few weeks home.. but I think I lost most of it through night sweats. Holy moly I had the change those sheets VERY frequently and it was December and cold.

  • I have normal swelling and crappy sleep.  The symptom that is getting very obnoxious is my anxiety. I'm don't usually dwell in what if's or H is 20m later than normal omg is he hurt.  Nope, I never used to be crazy.

Mine too. Trying not to process to much to slow it down. It sucks when it triggers a panic attack though
  • I know, it's my fault! I'll change the title to the symptoms thread and make it like the last one so its not confusing! @marikkita12

Does anyone else have an increased heart rate with no other indication of anything being amiss (except that it is generally hard to breathe)? My heart rate has been around 80 until 4 weeks ago. Each check-up (and typically when I check at home) it has been in the low 100s (100-110). My blood pressure is good, zero swelling, no headaches...I am worried about the heart rate, but I don't know what to do about it! My new thought is that I may need more water and exercise...I guess neither can hurt any way at this point.
  • @Sbrown721 I also am dealing with an elevated pulse and tight chest.  I believe mine is due to low blood pressure though.
It wouldn't hurt mentioning it at your next OB appointment.
  • @reesaXden She knows and doesn't seem too concerned. It's frustrating anyway tho!
  • Yesterday DH and I went to the park before lunch time and I did not feel overheated, haven't been having BH.. nothing.. BUT when I went to sit down on a bench in the shade to rest before the walk back, I noticed my pants were wet. Some unknown liquid went through my undies and onto my grey shorts about the size of a half dollar coin or so and really freaked me out. It was evidently clear and did not smell of urine (sorry, gross-ish) but like you mentioned @AlwaysAuntNeverMom - maybe I did just pee myself a bit although I had zero urge?

I'm not super sure what happened but never had any unusual type pain (have been having the uretha type pain for some time now, but not serious) and never had a gush after laying down for an hour after I got home but have been feeling more "damp" than normal today and had cloudy urine like @MrsVoorhees mentioned.. Should I possibly be worried? I thought I had talked myself into thinking it was just urine, now, again, I am unsure.

FTM semi-panic mode, day 2.

  • Skimmed through but didn't read fully so sorry if this has been mentioned - anyone dealing with third tri nausea? I didn't have first tri m/s with this pregnancy (did with my daughter) and within the last week or so, I'll be fine and then suddenly feel dizzy and like I want to throw up. It generally goes away quickly. This afternoon, it's hanging on. Going to pick up some ginger tea in the hopes that helps.

  • @PSUBecky23 YES ! I am. Even threw up on Friday morning for the first time in at least a month or so. Unfortunately I had thrown up pretty much the whole pregnancy prior to this one month hiatus though..
  • RG1RG1 member
@PSUBecky23 Yes I threw up Thursday night. I keep getting dizzy and the feeling like I'm extremely hungry and going to throw up. Mostly at night. I went to the OB and they said it was heartburn and I've been taking Zantac before bed which seems to be helping. Any chance it's from heartburn? Mine doesn't feel like typical reflux but now that I know it's heartburn, it does make sense. I actually don't ever burp so I didn't notice any gas coming up but I can feel/hear it bubbling.

@ansley0319 I would mention it to the OB if you're concerned. TMI: I've had "gushes" of discharge when getting out of bed a couple of times but it has always been discharge and, I don't think, enough to go through my clothes, although I do wear liners.

@Sbrown721 Yes, my HR has been higher. It got progressively higher in the first and second trimesters and has kind of evened out. It used to be in the high 90s, low 100s range and now it always hangs out in the mid 90s. Everyone (including the books!) has told me it's normal for it to go up during pregnancy. I wouldn't worry unless you have other symptoms since worrying will probably make it worse.

  • That would happen to me pre-pregnancy, as well as some now, too.  How soon after you arrive does your OB/nurse take your heart rate?  Is it recently after you walked into the office, or had you been sitting for a while?  Mine doesn't check heart rate, but I know that it elevates much quicker than it used to and is much more responsive to stress (emotional and physical) than it used to be.  You're probably right that water/exercise will probably help some, though!

  • Does anybody else get crazy heartburn when they have a contraction? I suppose it makes sense. It just feels weird.
