Surprise appointment today due to some serious pelvic/lower back pressure over the last 24 hours at 35+3.

Baby is doing wonderful, head down and almost engaged. A bit shocked to hear that I'm already 2cm dilated and >50% effaced! Doc says she would like for her to stay put for at least another week (I'd like at least 2 so we can get moved into our new house), but they wouldn't do much to stop her if she decided to make an entrance sooner rather than later.

Had my 37 week appointment today. They did the GBS swab. My midwife doesn't do internal check because she says it doesn't tell you much, so nothing else to report. She said we won't talk induction until 41+3 weeks. So I guess it'll still be a while until we meet this little one

@midwestbaby We had our final follow up with the MFM and apparently the issue is the doctor has to go back in and justify the culture for the insurance company before the hospital will run it, since new guidelines say not to run a culture unless there is a situation like mine the second time around. Apparently both times the doctor ordered the test, but it hung out in limbo waiting on the "justification" too long and was discarded.

Check up today at 38+2... 1 cm dilated and thinning but she didn't say how much. They also put me on the monitor and did an ultrasound since he hasn't been moving much today. Heart rate and fluid level are normal. Apparently he just wore himself out kicking the bejeesus out of me the past two days.

@Allisun85 I'm sorry, that stinks! I hope they started you on a different antibiotic.

I'm pretty sure the lab gets blamed for a lot of things they don't actually do. I wish the doctors would just fess up, admit they screwed up, say sorry, and try to make sure their patients get the right care.

Had my 2 NST Appointments this week one with the nurse practitioner(Tuesday) and the other with the DR. today (Friday).  So Tuesday's appointment I was checked and I am at 1.5cm dialated, and had to go to L&D because baby girl was not cooperating for the NST. After being zapped by the buzzer thing about 6 times and fed apple juice, crackers etc she finally woke up. It took them to use a larger buzzer thing than what the Dr's office had to wake her up.... At least my growth ultrasound appt that day went great, baby girl is currently at an "estimate" weight of 7 lbs 1 oz.
Today's appt went great. Baby girl cooperated thankfully. I just feel like crud from contractions and baby girl wanting to headbutt me and push down. Hopefully tomorrow I feel better.

Just had my 37 week appointment.  Baby's head is down there, and Dr said my cervix is softening, and I'm starting to dilate about 1/2 a centimeter.  Doc said we can talk about induction after 39 weeks. I'm not yet sure I want to go that route, but my Dr. will be on Vacation starting the day after my due date. I'm debating an induction 2 days before my due date....

Had my 37 week appointment. Cervix is still up a little high and her head is still very, very low. But, BP was looking much better. The doctor said she still thinks I'll go before my c-section date at 39 weeks.

Had my 36 week appointment today. The strep b test was NOT pleasant. My doctor told me beforehand that it would be a swipe of the front and a very tiny insert into the back. She said she used to not do the insert but then read some article about how a ton of OB's do it wrong and she realized she was one of them. This happened in the last year. Sure wish she wouldn't have read that!!

No cervix check bc baby's head was too low and in the way; she said it wasn't necessary yet. I'm ok with that because it was not comfortable.

37 week appointment tonight. I am excited to hear how my GBS test went( I collected the sample myself). I haven't had a cervical check yet... I think my midwives are very hands off... and I'm reluctant to ask for one...

38 week appointment today.  Baby is still head down, probably about 9 lbs by now, based on his rockstar growing skills this whole pregnancy and his size at the 35 week sonogram, but he is showing no signs of wanting to exit.  Not a bit dilated.  Looks highly likely that baby will come at his scheduled C-section time, next Thursday, 8/4, at 39 weeks 2 days. I bet this kid would just keep plumping up until like 42 weeks if we let him go that far.  Yayyyyyyy.

36w appointment.  Cerclage removed.  It sucked.  BP good.  Weight...blah.  Next one in two weeks since my OB is out of town.

Appt yesterday at 37w4d. No progress, I've been dialated to just over 1 for over 3 weeks... I am living proof that dialation means nothing  :/ This little one is looking pretty settled in there, so not expecting labor anytime soon. Next week I start working only one day/week up until I give birth, so I'm going to really have to work to find a zen mental state for the next few weeks!

38 week appointment yesterday. Went from 1.5cm the past two weeks to "a tight 2." I think my OB just wants me to feel like I'm making progress ;) either way, I like the cervical checks and when she tells me how baby is positioned. I'm so curious what's going on in there!

I had my 37 week appointment today and I finally met the doctor who's going to do the section. He is much nicer than the other Dr at my practice so I'm glad he's the one doing it. I pretty much just had the NST and signed the consent form for the section and was out of there in less than an hour. Record time! I'm a little annoyed that they scheduled my pre-op appointment and my last check up at my doctors office both on the same day, which is the day before we go in. Ones at 12:30 and the other one is at 2 so that pretty much takes the entire day.

    36w 3d appt today.
Only dilated half a cm. which makes sense because baby still feels high to me. My doc said he wouldn't be surprised if I go to the end. (Gee thanks!) (my DD was a perfect 35 weeker).

Scheduled my induction for Aug 15 (39w, 1d) due to medicine controlled GD. Hoping baby boy decides to make it out before then.

@midwestbaby that is so exciting to hear!! I'm just a few days ahead of you (36 6d today) and i'm crossing my fingers for my appointment tomorrow! Last week i was 70% effaced and .5cm. With all my BH contractions, and today's definite cramping i'm really hoping i hear similar news!!!

Had my 37 week appointment today...GBS came back negative, baby boy has dropped, I'm 1cm dilated, and my cervix is thin!! When she was feeling my stomach she said I was have a contraction and ever since then I've been having them so hopefully at my appointment next week I'll be even more dilated FX :)

38 week appointment today. Was at .5-1 cm dilated when they did the swab a few weeks ago. Now at a 2+.
She didn't say anything about effacement so assuming still about 50%.

My cervix was higher than it was last time (very low last time) but she said that's not uncommon for it to get lower during the day from pressure and this was a morning appointment as opposed to the afternoon when she checked me last time.

@midwestbaby  That really makes me curious about how these swabs are done doctor to doctor! With mine it just felt like she lightly brushed a q-tip all around (including outside only butt area). Like barely touched me compared to the big hand to do the cervix check. But the cervix check definitely was more uncomfortable today then when it was lower last time.

@midwestbaby @ramoseecology I wonder the same thing because the midwife who did my swab actually went up in there with it. I was surprised and not expecting that.

Had my appt today. (39 wks tomorrow). 1 cm dilated (versus nothing last week)! Also having some digestive changes and had a little bleeding after the appt--not sure if that is just from the cervical check or the start of bloody show. If baby doesn't come before next week, I'll have an ultrasound Tuesday to check position and head size (her head was large on the last u/s so there is some concern I'll need a c-section) and if all looks good, they'll induce Wednesday! ;-0

I was totally prepared for the butt insertion, but she inserted into my vagina and just lightly swabbed down to my butt. It felt like a Pap smear from hell. But she said I am really swollen down there, which wasn't surprising because babys head is pushing down so far already. It's weird because I haven't had the "lightening crotch" everyone says you get when baby starts to drop. If anything I feel more pressure on the front of my abdomen. I guess it must be different for each pregnancy.

39 week appointment this afternoon. No change. Still almost 3 cm, 90% effaced, -1 station. So now I'm disappointed and crying after the big deal the doctor made at my appointment last week that I wouldn't make it to this week. Really regret changing my mind about not doing cervical checks.
Oh and we're on day 2 of no internet and DH is playing D&D tonight and won't be home until after 11 so I can't even watch tv or anything to entertain myself.
Gonna go try to console myself with a peanut butter Oreo milkshake from cook out.

You still have less to go being a 3! Nearly a third of the way to 10! You got this. Baby girl will be here soon!
  • Options
@Car0liiine I've also realized that cervical checks are not really worth it. I started dialating at 34 weeks and everyone was convinced I would go super early, but here I am, 38weeks tomorrow, with a very-much-inside baby and no progress. It's frustrating, but I just keep telling myself that he needs this time to grow. I'm also trying to focus on doing things that will be difficult to do after he gets here (pedicure, hair cut, cleaning, etc). I hope you're little girl decides to make her appearance soon!

Last week I had an appointment and had to go back 2 separate days (3 visits total) because BP was high. We were adjusting meds, checking for proteins, did a BPP. They said talk about induction next week for after 37 weeks (today). Today " well the medicine is working so you could possibly go to your due date" The 19th.... I want her to grow and be healthy but don't toy with a woman's emotions, being pregnant for another 3 weeks may seem like forever.

Had my 36 week appt yesterday (was 36w4d). Dilated .5cm and effaced 50 percent, same as last week. Not sure of station but the US tech commented that his head was super low and my doc could feel it during the cervical check. For some reason my amniotic fluid was high so I have to get checked again next week.. If it's still high I may have to be induced!

Had my 38 week appointment this morning (technically 38 weeks tomorrow)! Last week I was 1cm and long, and not effaced. Today I'm 2cm and 50% effaced -3 station! At least those contractions 2 days ago did something and all this pelvic pain and pressure mean things are heading in the right direction my doctor stripped my membranes which was uncomfortable but I'll do anything at this point to get things going! Going to get Castor oil shake ingredients that my doctor gave me. Again I'll do almost anything to get things going!

I learned at my 37wk appointment Tuesday that I'm GBS+, which is really worrying me even though I know it's super common and not a big deal.  I had hoped to get my membranes stripped around 39 weeks, but they can't do that for GBS+.  I'm worried about not having enough time at the hospital to get the full dose of IV antibiotics, esp. since this is my second, and my first was relatively fast.  So now I'm thinking of scheduling an induction sometime between 39-40wks to limit my chances of spontaneous labor.  I was 1.5cm, 50% effaced and soft at my 36wk appt, so doctor says I'm a good induction candidate, and I had a good experience with induction the first time.

Any other GBS+ moms out there?  Are you worrying unnecessarily like I am?

  • Options
@peachgal23 I was told that I was GBS+ after my 36 week appointment, but when I went in yesterday for my 37 week, I was told that the lab made a mistake on a few tests and I had to be tested again. At first I was a little discouraged with the diagnosis, but now if this test is negative, I told my doctor that I would like to proceed as if it was positive. I guess I would rather be safe than sorry? I am also looking towards induction. We live in a fairly small town and it will take about 15 minutes to get to the hospital, but I want to be sure that I get at least 1 dose of the antibiotics in before I have to deliver, and the planner in me is not comfortable with taking the chance that that might not happen.
  • Options
@PeachGal23 I'm negative this time around but I was GBS+ with DD. I was induced because my blood pressure started going up around 40.5 weeks. I recall my doctor telling me to call as soon as there were timeable contractions or as soon as my water broke(neither of which happened). They encourage to call and come in sooner with GBS+ so you can get the antibiotics in. I think as long as you have at least one round in, you're good. I would say just follow your doctors lead, if they don't feel it's completely necessary to induce solely based on the positive test results I would just see if your labor starts naturally.
  • Options
@kristynmac Seeing everyone's posts about "the labs mistakes" makes me wonder how often the lab really gets blamed for stuff. It is possible that some tests were mixed up, but me thinks the doctors office didn't label stuff correctly.

Pretty sure my own OB office thinks I'm a nut job by asking to see my labeled specimens every time I leave the office.

At work we probably credit I would say anywhere from 5-10 samples a day from mislabeled specimens from the different clinics and hospitals.

Sorry, I know this is off topic, it just burns me. I would ask to see your labeled specimens before you leave every appointment just as an extra check. I think every doctors office should be confirming date of birth and name of patient verbally when they collect samples.
