@MrsVoorhees I got shamed by my favorite local sandwich shop for getting a cold sandwich on Sunday. Ugh. My doctor said the risks are low, and as long as the place is pretty reputable she was fine with it. Of course I did a bunch of google searching for statistics after the super awkward interaction with the lady selling me sandwiches (I half thought she wasn't going to give them to me). There were two websites with some stats that made me feel a bit better (this would be a better story if I had those on hand...). One said that half of listeria cases from 2008-11 (ish?) were from raw milk cheeses (easy to avoid/not a temptation). The other said that of the known cases from deli meat, turkey was the most likely culprit. But yes, agree it's a fairly outdated restriction.

ETA: I've been seething about the deli meat shaming for days!

  • @abberson - that's definitely not cool!   I haven't had any deli meat that isn't warmed up, but have watched my cousin who's two weeks less than me house it like there's no tomorrow at the family picnics.   It's no biggie to her, but a thing for me, so to each their own.   Now on the other hand, I haven't been able to stay away from crumbled blue cheese, so I have that at least one a week.   Still going strong.   Plus I never heard of some of the other restrictions such as caeser salad dressing and soft serve ice cream (Oh heck no!) and have enjoyed both of those, so I guess again, it's to each their own.
  • @AnnaS930 wait what's the deal with Ceasar dressing?
  • @CindyLouWho427 Pretty sure it's because of raw egg in the dressingo.

Ohh, I honestly had no idea there was raw egg in it! Goes to show how often I eat caesar salads.
  • @CindyLouWho427  It's mostly just in restaurants that Caesar can still have raw egg.  I don't think many of the commercial dressings do anymore, since they're shelf stable until open.  I could be wrong though!

  • @Jabreen is correct. The concern is for restaurant or homemade dressing vs what you buy in the grocery store. Realistically, I think it's all about using common sense when making food choices.
  • @PSUBecky23 @AnnaS930 sleeping time, yeah. I guess I just answered from the how-did-he-feed-baby POV. I don't think I would even be able to sleep for that long knowing I have a newborn at home.

    @CindyLouWho427 welcome back!

@AnnaS930 yes I was/am in D14. Our group actually just blew up over the course of he lay 2 weeks. It split into 2 smaller groups and the original is being deleted tomorrow. Sad, but I think smaller groups will be better.

  • @drmh22 Ahh! I love it!!
  • @drmh22 yes!!! Please post pictures because I am imagining it in my head and it's awesome

  • Noosa yogurt (lots of sugar), blueberry donut, leftover pizza and a banana...off to a great start today! DH is making carnitas for dinner MMM
  • @MrsVoorhees I'm sure you've already had your lunch meat sandwich by now, but allow me to be some post-meal support. I've eaten a lot of lunch meat this pregnancy. A LOT. I ate it when I was pregnant with McKenna as well, but it wasn't a craving then like it has been this time. But I'm also one that doesn't stick to pregnancy food restrictions at all (except caffeine and alcohol).

I'm chicken shit and had them heat it. But God, it's still good because I was so hungry.

ETA: but thank you all for your support. I knew I would have anxiety about it for 30 days after haha. So dumb.

Want even more anxiety when I point out how insanely close to our due dates we will be in 30 days?
I'm the idiot that's not anxious about it, I'm super excited! I'm in for a rude awakening but I'll ride this naive wave to shore!
  • @MrsVoorhees - I'm right there with you. Absolute excitement is completely overriding the unknowns of labor #2, and what life with 2 minions looks like. I'll get there while I'm there, for now I'm just checking off days/weeks in pure glee.

@camichael84 - get it, girl!  dough/batter for life.

  • @drmh22 I am so excited to see that floor. That's going to be awesome.

@Sbrown721 yes. I have no idea how I have not gotten fired. Seriously, no idea.
  • I have a countdown app on my phone - 44 days to go! As excited as I am to meet this little girl, I have all the emotions about this being my last pregnancy.
  • I just counted - 58 days until my due date! I am so excited for it to get here and to meet the baby. But I still have so much to do! The nursery is no where near close to done (granted we won't use it right away), and I still have to sort through clothes and determine what we can use for this baby and what needs to be purchased (trying to reuse as much gender neutral clothes as possible).

  • I don't eat deli meat during pregnancy, but it's more b/c I was too afraid to with #1 and now my traditional first post-birth meal is a Jimmy Johns and diet coke. It's silly because I totally eat all the other stuff, including what should have been really questionable street food in Belize.

I'm all for breastfeeding and am hoping to be successful at it but am I the only one here that just thought "because they chose to formula feed" and didn't think anything of it?

I  just thought that they slapped the baby on her chest as needed. Husband's are awesome problem solvers :-)
  • Welcome @CindyLouWho427 i ❤ missfits

Man you ladies are fast cant keep up with the randoms thread.

I loved opening the christmas eve present, can't wait to continue the tradition with the lo.

My OB said cold cuts and sushi were fine longs it's from a reputable restaurant. Obviously there is still a risk but I'll take my chances.

I just counted and have 64 days. I'm not sure when it will hit me that this baby is coming SOON, but it hasn't yet. I was super sad at the beginning that it wouldn't just be the 3 of us anymore, and I'm already telling DH all the time...we only have 9 more weeks, and DD1 can early so maybe less. We need to enjoy spending time with her before her world gets turned upside-down.

@fireflygirl12 it makes me so happy to read what your sweet son said. I feel like I can't be totally happy because I still feel like I'm taking something away from DD1.

And seriously, people, eat all the lunch meat! With DD1 I never did and made DH get me Panera after I had her. This time it's summer, and most of the time I just want a cold sandwich, so that's what I eat. And it's so good!
  • Poll: do you guys eat cold sandwiches? I am dying for a jersey Mike's Italian but I hate it heated. I have this anxiety about eating jt cold, even though I know the lettuce and onions are more likely to give me listeria. Hell, peanut butter is more likely. I don't even think there's been a report in lunch meat in years, right? Support me and tell me I should do it and not feel guilty.
I have been eating cold meat from the grocery deli and I don't regret it. I haven't really ventured out into getting it in public yet but when I do it will be a jersey mike's sub very soon. From what I read the sooner you have the deli meat after it's been cut the lesser risk of listeria (which we all know is pretty low to begin with) so since JM cuts it right on your sandwich you should be good. so DO IT!
