I'm in no way down-playing the fear when you haven't felt a lot of baby movement, but pregnant coworker just IMed me at work to say that she's panicking because when she does kick counts she's never felt "30 in an hour" and "that's what google said she should expect"
Oy.
Well, if Google said that, it must be true!!!
This is why I don't do kick counts, btw. Just being aware of movement reassures me all is well. My first wasn't much of a mover, and if I'd counted with her, I would have been constantly freaked out.
She asked if I felt him 24/7 at this point. I said "uhh.. no, I think he sleeps like 12 hours a day and doesn't move then" She had the perception that she would feel constant movement starting at a certain point. Which, whatever.. but good to have a group your first time through to get an idea for what to really expect. Or maybe she should ask her doctor or read a book? Google seems like a bad source for her...
@annas930 - but dr. google said so!!! I only do kick counts if I think it's been a while since I felt her and want so reassurance. Talked with my doc today and she said at this point our bodies are getting used to the movement and doesn't always register with our brains especially if its a day where you are more active (like me around the house on the weekends)
Me: 32 DH: 31
TTC #2 since January 2018
Baby #1 DD Born 8/25/2016 BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18
I love Christmas! I can't wait to dress him up as a baby santa haha. I've mentioned this before but FI's birthday is on Christmas so he never liked it growing up but even he gets excited talking about new traditions with the baby
and @AnnaS930 I am exactly the same way-- I have no patience haha I want them to open their presents right away so I can see their faces and I love opening presents too
re: Facebook, I am less private than many, I think because I have had privacy concerns in the past in which people on my "friends" list have just shared everything with people I would not want things shared with anyway. Now I try to keep many things public, just because I think the idea that anything I post could be read at any time by my boss, in-laws, enemies, or detractors keeps me from posting anything embarrassing or overly personal. Anyway, I am happy to join whenever people want to move over, and I will keep your secret identities secret. Assuming you are not a big school of catfish.
I had a crappy morning. For whatever reason I can't handle heat right now, I was blow drying my hair and started to pass out. I had to lay down for like 45 minutes before going to work, and now I am here but I still feel like I am about to die. Bleh.
@Megan324 - is that a screenshot from your actual device? I love the first suggestion, like.. in all of pregnancy who is that concerned with ensuring a hairy baby? Also, time to come clean - what were you trying to make sure of if it is yours?? huh? huh?
1. Clothes suck right now. I'm not kidding when I say I totally popped over night.
2. Took the girls to the water park this morning. Was standing in line and totally blacked out. That was fun. Will not be going to the beach today. Gonna put cam down for her nap and take one myself while my momma takes D to the beach.
3. It's my dad's birthday today and he just told me he doesn't want me and the girls to go to dinner with my mom and him. I can see wanting to have a night with your wifey but you see us twice a year. RUDE. Now I'm just going to eat all the cupcakes we made you
4. We set our induction date for 8/25. Ummm that's like a MONTH away
@CindyLouWho427 Welcome ba... I mean, welcome! Glad you're here.
@seitzy3 yuck on the blacking out, definitely not fun. It is incredible, though, that you're having a baby in a month! Whaaaaaat? That hit me last night when I talked to DH and I thought it was 7/15 and I was all, 'this month is flying by!'. I about had a heart attack when he said it was the 18th instead.
Question: My friend just had a baby as few days ago and said her DH let her sleep 12 hours yesterday. I'm not sure how he fed her...and I felt awkward asking I'm not sure why. Maybe formula? Can you pump enough colostrum to get through those feedings not being with your baby? I guess I thought it was hard to expel into a bottle before your actual milk comes in. Someone enlighten me?

She definitely wasn't nursing, I bet they are formula feeding. Or do you know that she's breastfeeding? If she is nursing, she won't be for long.
Just took a nap in my car between draws. Thankful for a toddler that insists on having her blanket on her in the car in 100 degree heat. That was an amazing pillow.

Uh, that was really nice of her husband. You can pump colostrum and baby doesn't need much early on (their stomachs are super tiny) but it's also best to physically be with your baby in order to help your milk come in. And develop a bond. And do skin-to-skin. And...OK, I'll stop judging someone I don't know.
@seitzy3 That is seriously so ridiculous about your dad. They have the rest of the year to go out just the two of them. I will never understand why people get so caught up about things happening on the specific holiday. Be flexible. If it's not going to work best on that day, celebrate a different day. What's the big deal? My "best friend" didn't come to my bachelorette party because the Sunday was mother's day and she has a kid that was like 3 or 4 at the time? Seriously? Your kid isn't going to remember if you celebrated another day but I sure as heck still remember you weren't there for me. Thanks. (And by no means were we doing anything extravagant that cost a lot of money...plus it was the whole weekend and not everyone could do both nights so she could have done Friday-Saturday if she wanted to be home Sunday...4 years later and still bitter!)
In regards to baby having hair...my kid looked bald until about 18 months...tell me your secrets google!
I think I managed to get a total of 4.5 hours of actual sleep last night. Weirdly, I feel less tired than normal.... but I've still got the morning slugishness. Staring down my work that I haven't even started and wondering if it's too early to eat a brownie.
@Ana2930 Having a group to ask questions to is really nice. Hearing how different everyone's experiences are with different things is soothing.
As far as kicks per hour my nurse told me that counting isn't necessary at all unless you've noticed your baby isn't moving as much as normal. Then? Drink a glass of juice, lay down on your side and count the activity. She said that as long as there're 10 kicks in 2 hours all is well. This is MUCH different than what I've read in some baby articles. It's so easy to freak out over stuff and google is soooooooo tempting sometimes.
@mom2adoodle 12 hours straight? Or possible that she woke enough to nurse baby and just passed right back out? Colostrum can certainly be pumped before milk comes in fully... but if she actually slept 12 hours straight without any nursing/pumping then he supply is going to be lacking some serious stimulation!
Thanks for all the love, ladies!! Especially since I'm so shiny and new
currently getting a pedicure and it's so glorious. Although, it's only been a month since I've had them done, and she had to bring out the heavy artillery for my heels. What the heck have I been doing to my feet??
Also, team Christmas Eve presents over here!! We could always open one, but my mom had to pick it out. Thinking we'll keep that tradition going with this LO!
I hope your mucus plug is nbd and baby is staying put @laker2014. I would just let your OB know as FYI, but I will warn you not to Google pics of mucus plug! One of my currently pregnant friends lost a chunk at 31w and is 38w now.
Agree with you @AnnaS930 that I'm not sure I would have had another if DS1 was already 3. Even now I tell DH we wouldn't be having a third of I wasn't already KU. The tods have been playing so well together, finally not needing us every second and we are starting all over again!
Is she a FTM @mom2adoodle? After DS2, my milk came in on the second day. Although it would totally eff your supply to go 12hrs that soon, even if your milk was in.
I'm all for breastfeeding and am hoping to be successful at it but am I the only one here that just thought "because they chose to formula feed" and didn't think anything of it?

I did at first assume that in terms of feeding, but I also thought - who a few days after giving birth is able to sleep for 12 hours? I mean, exhaustion - absolutely, but I didn't want to blink that soon after having my son because I couldn't take my eyes off of him. To each their own, though!
I'm all for breastfeeding and am hoping to be successful at it but am I the only one here that just thought "because they chose to formula feed" and didn't think anything of it?
Yeah, my judgment was more about sleeping that long so soon after birth vs. how the baby is being fed. I haven't slept 12 hours since my daughter was born. I'm jealous.
I'm with all you ladies that have a dwindling supply of clothing. Ugh. And I'm sorry, but I refuse to buy more clothes at this point. Guess I'll be cycling through my limited supply for the next month.
Christmas boxes - Yes! Although we generally just do Christmas PJs that Santa leaves on the kids' beds on Christmas Eve. But Clara (our Elf on the Shelf) brings little treats through the month (The Polar Express, Christmas Eve in Texas book, etc.).
The baby hair...too funny! Although, I will say this. When I was having my c-section and they had pulled Robert out, the first question I asked was "Does he have a ton of hair??". And I kept on asking! I was all sorts of screwy with the spinal and all that and all I could think of was the old wives tale about babies having a lot of hair if the mom has bad acid reflux. And I had horrible reflux, so it made sense to me. lol
@AnnaS930@AlwaysAuntNeverMom@fireflygirl12@PSUBecky23@MrsVoorhees I had DH dive deeper since he's close to her DH. She's a FTM. It was definitely 12 hours straight of sleep. And yes, they are formula feeding and nursing! Not sure how that works so early in the game though....Mystery solved!
As for pumping colostrum- how do you do it? Manual hand expression and/or manual pump I'm assuming? I had no idea you could do this enough for several feedings at a time.
Poll: do you guys eat cold sandwiches? I am dying for a jersey Mike's Italian but I hate it heated. I have this anxiety about eating jt cold, even though I know the lettuce and onions are more likely to give me listeria. Hell, peanut butter is more likely. I don't even think there's been a report in lunch meat in years, right? Support me and tell me I should do it and not feel guilty.
@MrsVoorhees usually I heat them to be "good", but I have had them cold a handful of times too! Each time, I've felt a twinge of guilt and then a "omg what if I'm that .1% WHAT HAVE I DONE" but that goes away pretty quickly. I would say the risk is really low so if you're comfortable, do it!!
Ive also had other no-no's like soft serve with zero guilt at all.. I have selective guilt. Selectively reserved for cold turkey sandwiches, I guess.

I started pumping after each feeding (or attempted feeding) in the hospital because with my PCOS diagnosis, we weren't sure how well my milk would come in so we wanted to stimulate as much as possible. We'd get Emmett to latch and let him suckle for as long as he wanted, then I'd use the double, electric pump and just pump like you would breastmilk, only it's a bit thicker and obviously less comes out versus milk. E was born Saturday night, and I believe my milk came in Tuesday morning? Not sure if I'm remembering the timing but it was right after going home.
Baby's stomach capacity at birth is about the size of a marble - about a teaspoon! So for those first few days it's really just a tiny amount needed to fill up each time.. Each time I pumped after he'd nurse (I don't think he got a single drop out of me on his own the first couple of days), I'd pump maybe 10mLs of colostrum, so enough to feed him (I let him suckle my finger and used a little syringe and tubing to pump the colostrum into his mouth while he sucked) and enough to put in the fridge for the next feeding.
@MrsVoorhees I don't do it often, but I don't beat myself up about it when I eat a cold lunchmeat sandwich! Like you said, the reports of problems come far more often from bagged lettuce, etc., and a busy deli should have plenty of turnover. The big concern is when the meat has been sitting sliced for a long time, thanks to the increased surface area for listeria to grow on. I say go for it!
I am not sure if it was controlled or accidental, but a natural gas plant near us released the additive to gas that gives it odor. The media is really downplaying it - telling people not to worry, it is harmless. But I am getting a mild headaches and the constant smell is horrible. And if it was controlled, why the hell would the gas company choose a high humidity, low wind day? That doesn't allow the smell to dissipate.
@MrsVoorhees I eat cold deli meat fairly frequently with this pregnancy. When I was pregnant with DD, I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole but this time I just decided the risks were too low to force myself to stay away when it's such a cheap, healthy lunch option! I say go for it...though I know it's totally a matter of personal opinion and comfort level!
@MrsVoorhees - NEVER would I EVER eat a cold meat sandwich... but that's because I'm a vegetarian and don't like meat For pregnancy? Oh yeah, definitely. As others have said, I'm all for soft serve ice cream, I sample raw cookie dough before baking, eat caesar dressing, etc etc. So certainly not afraid of foodborne illness though I'm sure I downplay it more than I should.
