Re: July Randoms Thread

  • My body has found a 'sweetspot time' for sleeping, where I can blissfully get sleep uninterrupted by pain or restlessness.  It's glorious!  However, it appears to only be between 3:30 & 5AM.   The rest of the time I can't get any sleep I'm so restless and uncomfortable.  Please, PLEASE let this be a short phase!  I cannot survive the next ten weeks on 1.5 hours of sleep, I've already started losing it and hit overly giddy/sleep deprivation mode by 10am...it ain't pretty.

  • Insomnia sucks. Woke up before 430 thinking it was 630 and that that was a great thing because I wouldn't have to toss and turn to try and get back to sleep. (The only time in my life I was happy it was time to get out of bed, mind you!) So here I sit in a hot bath hoping it'll help my back, still exhausted but unable to fall asleep partly because I've got some sinus thing going on again. Today is going to be a looonnnnggg day. :(

  • @seitzy3 that is such a sweet idea. I don't think I've seen one before. But it sounds like a nice gift. Near or far, knowing someone who cares is only a phone call away can be enough. I think the invite to the beach house sounds lovely. It will let the kids be kids and let them relax and hopefully take their mind off of things for even a day. Hope they can get some help while they're suffering this terrible loss.

@Themaritimemama what? That doesn't even make sense. Was that your OB or your PCP? At my last OB appt they were encouraging me to get it, trying to explain why it's good for mama and baby... and I was just like dude, you don't have to convince me, if it's the right thing, shoot me up!

@PSUBecky23 That's so nice to hear! Insomnia hasn't hit me too hard yet, but I have been worrying about this. While out on leave, I'm not so worried about, but (if) I go back to work, that's what has me worried! Not sure I can do my job in zombie zone!
  • Just a word of encouragement to the FTMs (not sure if other STMs will agree) - I know the insomnia sucks now and you're probably worried about the sleepless nights once you have a newborn. But for me, the sleepless nights once my daughter was here weren't so horrible. I somehow found some deep pocket of energy that kept me going. Don't get me wrong, there were many zombie days but it wasn't as horrible as I was expecting.
Agreed - the insomnia didn't last once that baby was born (and for me, luckily, only occurred a few times during pregnancy.. a few days in a row here and there). Once E was here and I was waking at night to feed him, I'd luckily fall back asleep easily after and enter a pretty deep sleep for a couple hours until he needed me again. Sleepless with a reason is much better than staring at the clock all night for no good reason!

  • I spent all night arguing with a man about why he cant sit up, scratch his face, get out of bed, drink, eat, leave the hospital because he has a bullet in his brain and a broken neck.  The police officer who has assigned to him sat and watched Law and Order every single time he started getting aggressive while me and my bump are over there rationalizing with a crazy man.  Asshole.  I only have a few more days spread over a couple of weeks but I'm feeling like I just can't do this anymore!!
  • I'm looking forward to being able to sleep without waking in pain. I'm able to sleep, which I know I'm super lucky, but the hip and back pain is what is getting me. I can't wait to sleep on my back and my stomach again!

@RN1stBae First off, honey respect to you for doing that career.  Secondly, that cop was an A*shole and seriously should be offering support/help then getting his drama on.  Thirdly, to the bolded, WTF!?!   Was this guy high or drunk?  I mean really, a bullet in the brain and having a BROKEN neck didn't get him to understand he needs to stay immobilized?  I understand it sucks, but dude, you were shot - IN THE HEAD!
  • I am definitely not waiting until my child is 11 to introduce him or her to the series! No, we'll be reading the harry potter books together from day 1 :)
  • @camichael84 - The movie was great! We took the kids last weekend and they loved it. We're going to start the book soon. I've never read it but I love Roald Dahl. The Witches is still one of my all time favorite books. I had a blast reading that to the kids!

@RN1stBae - Wow! I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. So much respect to you though!!

My random - I went to the dentist today. I went from, "Yep, I just need this cavity filled" to being told "Nope, you need a root canal" and finally to "Nope, you need to have that tooth extracted". Awesome. Guess what I'll be doing next week....  :s

  • @LakeR2014 this worries me too! But, I think with the movies and the theme park and everything involved to keep it alive, it will still be cool. The other books you listed were never as huge as Harry Potter. I mean, the baby sitters club is really somethin only kids/pre-teens read, whereas HP is something anyone can read.
  • @UnwritteN12 - I'm glad you liked the movie, I was obsessed with the book as a kid (actually, anything Roald Dahl, but this was one of my absolute favorites).  I didn't think previews looked very good, but your review encourages me to give it a shot!

  • @UnwritteN12 Sorry about the tooth extraction. Hope it's not too painful and a fast recovery. I'm glad to hear BFG was good! I think we will rent it when it's out. We rented Zootopia (loved that movie!) Sunday night, and McKenna didn't make it through without interruption. It made it clear to me she's not ready for the movie theater quite yet.

  • Oh, The Babysitter's Club.....the memories!! And Goosebumps and, later on, the Fear Street series. Give me all the books!!

@AnnaS930 - My mom was saying that she hadn't seen great reviews so she was surprised we like it so much. I just thought it was so sweet and really magical. I hope you like it!

  • @camichael84 - Totally fair! I remember being terrified the first time we took the kids to the theater because I wasn't sure they were ready. But they did pretty well. It'll be worth renting for sure!
Zootopia was super cute! Elle loves the Judy Hops.

  • My brother is coming into town with his fiance this weekend. They are getting married September 17 in Chicago. I have to have the talk with them about how I will not be able to make it to their wedding. Ughhhh! I think they already know, but are still really hoping I book a ticket and at least try to make it, but I have to let them know that it's going to be a definite "No, I won't be there." Blahhh
  • @Sbrown721 awe I remember you were really trying to find a way to go. It's unfortunate.
I am sure they will understand though

  • @Megan324 Thanks! I know you're trying to make it to one as well. I knew deep down that I wouldn't be able to make it, but I brought it up with my midwife and my husband and my midwife basically said "ABSOLUTELY NOT!"
  • @Sbrown721 mine is about an hour away from my hospital by car and my OB had given me a cautious yes to go but I have an appt with her the day before that will really decide if I'm going or not.

  • @Megan324 We can only stress over it so much, right? We have a much more important task at hand!

Also, regarding Group B Strep midwife was talking about 3 factors that can play a role:
    1. Stress level
    2. Whether you're good about probiotics
    3. Whether you wear thongs or not

    Something to keep in mind...
  • @Sbrown721 - my cousin is getting married Sept 24, which is about 2 weeks after my due date. I kept telling myself "If I have the baby a little before my EDD, we could probably make it!" But reality has set in, and the car ride (6+ hours) with a 21 month old and a couple-week-old is just not feasible. I'm sure she realizes we won't be going, but I haven't had the heart to come out and say "no" yet.  Also, there's been no mention of a bridal shower! I'm bummed.. was REALLY hoping to get a nice gift and go to that to make up for missing the wedding...

  • September really is just a crazy time of year! It's going to get really crazy once baby is school-age and we're trying to throw a birthday party and get ready for a new school year!  :p

@seitzy3 Thinking of you today, hope all who are hurting find comfort

@sbrown721 I'd be curious to hear what thongs have to do with it

I believe thongs allow for a bit more of bacteria build-up
  • I hopped on the horrible sleep train last night. :( I just couldn't get comfortable. So now my back hurts and I'm exhausted at work.

We we have a wedding to go to one month exactly before my due date. It's about 2.5-3 hours away and so far in cleared to go.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! The only undies I've found that are comfy in pregnancy are thongs :( Which is so strange because I'm not typically a thong-wearer.
  • @JennM205 She definitely wasn't giving me a list of "one-size-fits-all" factors; just things to keep in mind. It really varies person to person. I'm just taking it as a reminder to eat my yogurt.

@PoodleDoodleOoo I wear them all of the time! Meh, I'll try to work on not wearing them as much, but I'm not going to worry if I do.
  • @Sbrown721 Oh definitely things to consider, for sure.  It was just funny because as I was reading the list, I was like, nope, nope, nope!  Just goes to show that there are just some things out of our control...  Not to say, though, that putting your best foot forward (eating yogurt, etc) might not at least help!

@asht my boobs did not grow at all last pregnancy until a day or so post partum. My milk supply was steady so there's still hope!!

also my friend who has gigundo boobs thought she would have a plentiful supply of milk but that def was not the case. She produced less than me for sure. Therefor I don't think boob size is relevant to milk production!
