Any moms using formula: my girl is really gassy and constipated in the recent days of trying a generic formula. She's not sleeping well and is very fussy. Didn't notice it with similac. I'm going to go back to that to see if it helps. My question is, is it possible that she is allergic to something in it or should I just use gas drops and call it a day?
It usually takes at least a week for baby to acclimate to a new formula, and it's recommended you not switch repeatedly, as this can strain their little systems. When you do introduce a new formula you should start by gradually mixing it in with the current one until you have phased out the old one.
All that being said, they tend to get a bit more gassy as they start consuming more. It doesn't sound like an allergy, but talk to your pedi (or the nurse phone line) if you are concerned. For us with DS we switched to the Similac Sensitive (the orange container) and he did better with that. He also had reflux issues though, so that was a huge part of our concern. So far DD is just generally gassy, which is to be expected. If you do go with Similac you can sign up on their website for coupons/samples etc. It does take a while for them to send it, but you'll get $5 checks that you can use toward purchase. If you really want to save you can use these with coupons/Cartwheel (as they are technically considered a form of payment) and giftcard with purchase at Target to help offset the cost of brand name vs generic.
When did you deliver? Monday, May 16th. I was due Sunday the 15th. At 5 am on Monday morning, I was having irregular contractions. I went to my 8:30 apt and I was dilated to a 5 and contracting still. Based on my positive GBS and certain allergies to antibiotics she sent me over to labor and delivery. I started the antibiotics, was contracting between 1-5 minutes, and my water broke around 12. Nothing was really changing and a low dose of devil juice started at 12:30. They built up pitocin until I was squatting in misery thinking I was dying every two minutes. She checked me around 3 when the epidural God doctor showed up, and I was still a 5. That was a mind f for me as baby was still a -2 position. I struggled to get through the epidural, and had a contraction with pain in my back, then the next one I told them I felt pain in my bottom. They checked and I was dilated to a 10, 100 % effaced, and baby was crowning. The baby's heart rate decelerated and they put me on oxygen and shifted me to my left side. 23 minutes after my doctor checked me, I started to push. I was in complete shock and pushed through a few contractions and out she was in all of her glory. At one point during the pushing, my doctor looked at me and told me that there more than likely was a cord issue, and she was not concerned, she knew I would get the baby out, and it needed to be sooner than later. My husband and I describe the attitude in the room as urgent, but not threatening. I really cannot express how much I appreciate how she acted in the moment. Apparently the cord was extremely short, and my baby had it wrapped around in her hands. I have a massive hemorrhoid and the same 2nd degree tear as with my first daughter. She told me it was the same scar tissue, and wouldn't be as a bad as a recovery.
How did you deliver (vaginal, c-section, etc)? Vaginal
How are you feeling about your delivery? Great, lucky, overwhelmed, elated that is over, sad that's it over. Such a life changing experience.
How is your recovery going? Eh?? I though great, but 48 hours passed and I'm reevaluating great.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group?
uterine contractions - can I feel them in my lower back? My lower back is killing me - and my hips. Could be from delivery too I guess.
Ready to participate more, - just wanted to get my story out!
Is anyone else dealing with/dealt with postpartum hypertension? I had high blood pressure during pregnancy but it was never severe. I ended up back in the hospital 3 days pp with readings up to 184/105. I'm on labetalol now, but I'm not sure how long to expect this to last!

Not me personally, but my girlfriend had severe high BP after delivery (she was induced at 37 weeks for pre-e) and they put her on magnesium initially, then tried several other things. She ended up being on bed rest for 3-4 weeks after delivery. Hope that is not the case for you!!

How are you feeling about your delivery? I feel really good about it. I'm quite proud of myself. Didn't have an unmedicated birth as I'd hoped, but I also didn't plan on being induced and I blame much of my struggle on pitocin.
How is your recovery going? Most of it is going well. But dude hemorrhoids suck. Mine are pretty painful. I'm able to poop, I'm taking my colace and drinking water but still the hemorrhoids are painful. That and my tailbone. Today I squeezed myself into my Bellefit. Felt and looked good.
Any post partum issues or questions for the group? Anyone have suggestions for getting these hemorrhoids to heal?

I am. I was in the hospital 5 days after my c-section bc of postpartum hypertension. They put me on a low dose of labetalol twice a day. Today at 2 weeks postpartum I finally hit a BP reading where I was told not to take my medicine bc my systolic dropped below their threshold of taking it (almost back to my baseline). I was told by the doctor who prescribed my medicine though that it can take up to 6 weeks, sometimes longer for issues to resolve.

Can I ask what your BP was before and what it was when you could stop taking it? I'm on 100 mg of labetalol twice a day and my BP was still 166/99 earlier. I just thought the medicine would keep it lower than that. Yesterday it stayed around 145/90, so maybe I just did too much today?

@JessicaB0627 I was on 100mg twice a day through pregnancy and my BP was regularly 120/70. It spiked after delivery so now I'm on 200 mg twice a day and is similar. Was your reading at the tail end or right after you took your dose? In the hospital they were worried and then I reminded them I hadn't had my second dose yet so naturally my BP was higher than normal. Maybe test before and after taking your pill?

Just keep regular so you're not straining but also witch hazel pads can be very soothing and help the healing! If they're really bad an uncomfortable there's a bunch of treatments available both over the counter and prescription so speak to your doctor!
@Charla1224 talk to your doc! They much preferred me on Metamucil over Miralax, and Miralax over Colace. I'm not sure why but I started trying to phase out the meds they didn't want me taking too long. What really helped me was prep h suppositories because mine were internal. I thought they'd never go away but they did!

I put a mirror down there (I'm brave) and mine must be internal too. I'll have to call my doc and see about using a suppository. It's not going that hurst me as much as sitting. The toilet actually provides some relief.
I had some rough hemorrhoids right after birth, here's what I did and I'm now two weeks pp and feeling MUCH better: -every morning I'd fill the tub with about 6 inches of warm/hot water and a generous splash of pure witch hazel, sit in it for about 15 minutes, gently clean the area and then pat dry. -every time I went to the bathroom or showered I sprayed my privates with Earth Mama Angel Baby new mama bottom spray. -cloth menstrual pads for the first 7 days. They helped my lady parts breathe! -when I would take a shower at night id make sure to clean between my legs a second time. -sit on your boppy pillow as much as possible! I hope you feel better soon!
I havent been able to read through all the comments so I apologize if this is a duplicate. It also might be specific to ladies who have had CSs.
I'm only on day two of recovery (baby was only born about 28 hours ago) and I'm guessing the morphine from my CSection drip has completely worn off now. I am given a Norco pill for pain every three hours and I can tell that it makes everything a lot more bearable. However, there is a place internally near my right hip that feels like it is being stabbed and lit on fire every time I put any pressure whatsoever on that foot when walking. It hurts *terribly* while everything else is sore but not unmanageable. This area is not near my incision, either. Has anyone experienced this?
@TXmamatobe I was in a lot of pain the second day too, once my IVs and epi line were removed. I didn't experience pain in the exact same place but I did have excruciating gas pains pretty much all over in those early days of recovery. Gas can get trapped throughout your body (even in your shoulders) and it is awful. Walking and eventually pooping were the best things I could do to relieve the gas pain. As soon as you are able to get up and walk, do it! My H and I had some good (but painful for me) laughs on my "fart walks" as we called them.

This! If walking doesn't get things moving on its own, you could also request gasx or drink some coffee or chamomile tea to get things moving.

I started to get this one day 4 and on the left side. I notice it more in the afternoon, when I've been up and down for a while and it gets inflamed. It's been so bad that I've cried out in pain. From what I've read it's totally normal hut worth asking about since you are still in the hospital. May as well reconfirm.

At the hospital and near the beginning mine was around the 160s/90s. This was when they were still trying to nail down my dose. At this point they almost wanted to start me on a magnesium drip with I refused in lieu of staying a little longer. I was taking 200 mg, twice daily and it brought it down to 140s/high 80s. They eventually sent me home with a prescription for 300mg twice daily, but with instructions not to take if systolic dropped below 100 or diastolic dropped below 50 which I've managed to have happen twice now. Sometimes I still hit the 140/80 range though so I'm still to monitor and take as needed. Honestly I do notice it's worse in the evening for me if I'm more tired or if I've been more active so that could be a factor. Also if I haven't been staying hydrated enough it makes a difference.
One thing I did notice for me is that my swelling stuck around a little bit and yesterday it finally pretty much went away. I could get my rings back on and wear certain shoes again. This is also when my pressures started dropping into more normal ranges so idk if this is affecting it for me too or just a side effect.
Since we crossed the line of anything being TMI a long time ago... Is anyone else having major constipation or any recommendations on how to loosen things up?
It's been 10 days since my c-section and I've gone only twice and it actually felt like I was pooping bricks. I've been taking the colace, trying to back off taking Norco, and drinking a lot of water but it hasn't been helping. I talked to my OB about it and he just said to keep on the colace and it was the Norco causing it. My problem is I haven't got to the point where I can go completely without the Norco and just manage my pain with Motrin based on my required activity level with managing 3 kids.

My bum and I thank you for any advice you have
Colace is not enough when you're on narcotic pain killers. They relax your bowels which stops your poop moving. A softener doesn't actually help with that. You need a stimulant like bisacodyl or you can try miralax (miralax is my choice because it's gentler and you can use it daily until you're going regularly). Please get yourself something to get you going!!! Pooping bricks isn't fun
Any ladies with giant breasts feeding in public? I always intended to ( it's much more accepted here than in the USA ) but I feel like they are WAAAAY too big to be plopping out in public. I haven't mastered how to get these things out discretely. I have no issue with anyone else pulling boobs out but I just don't feel comfortable as I would really have to fully flash everyone. They say the little head blocks mostly everything but in the process of getting her attached I end up with a giant boob just out in the open. A cover seems like the way to go since I feel so uncomfortable but I have semi flat nipples and I have a hard time positioning her. Any advice?

Haven't had this baby yet but I had the same situation with DS. Size 34G, for perspective! I envied small breasted women nursing for this very reason. I didn't care in theory but felt uncomfortable now and then. Really what I did was just desensitize myself to it....aka did it anyway? I'd say a cover is probably the way to go though--latching and positioning should get easier and come more naturally as time goes on too!
Could what you're wearing make a difference? I felt more covered up when I'd pull a nursing tank down and a shirt up compared to just pulling a neckline down.

Same situation and size. I agree that the pull up/pull down helps me to feel more discreet. Mostly I aim to keep the nipple covered and as much breast as possible...all just isn't going to happen in some cases. When I wear pull down shirts, I use a nursing scarf and let it sort of billow around to cover; I'll cover the latch with it initially then sort of pull the scarf over to my armpit and let it drape over the breast that LO is feeding on at the time to cover the mass of cleavage. Eta : I don't cover the baby. DS used to fall asleep if he was covered and DS2 just plain old hates to be covered.
I have a large chest as well. I would just find an area out of the way to nurse so I wouldn't feel like I was in the middle of things and use a nursing cover that had a stiff piece of plastic at the top that could be shaped into a "v" shape. The "v" would allow me to look down at the baby while getting positioned and latched while still remaining covered. Due to my history of oversupply I normally just nurse on one side for each feeding which makes things easier since I don't do a mid-feed boos swap which can be ackward
Thanks to those who responded to the hot spot pain issue! I talked to my doctor and he said it is common and not serious. In fact, he said most of his CS patients develop a small area of pain that is far sharper and more concentrated but that it is nothing more than part of the healing process (unless you have other signs and symptoms of an infection). They integrated straight up ibuprofen into my pain management schedule and it has greatly improved. Oh, how I missed you Advil/Motrin!

I also envy small breasted mommys. I've only had to feed in public once so my experience is very limited. Luckily I was wearing a nursing tank and larger/ draped top. This made it easy to pull the shirt up and feed underneath. No exposed boob. For this reason I want to go buy a ton more nursing tanks. The Medela ones are my favorite because I actually feel supported. They're also the more expensive tanks. Go figure. Today I'm going out and will attempt the scarf for the first time. Fx it all goes smoothly.

Hopefully tomorrow morning and I cannot wait since we've been here since Tuesday. Baby does not have an infection and all is great with him and I'm making progress! I'm not going to lie, I'm afraid of how I'll get around at home for a while but luckily I have lots of help. Hope you're doing well at home!
For whatever reason I've had absolutely NO desire to eat anything at all. Until yesterday afternoon/evening I wasn't even allowed to eat anything solid and today, I just can't bring myself to eat. I've had tons of drinks and little things like a fruit cup but nothing else sounds tolerable. Did this happen to anyone else?
Im not BF so at least I'm not concerned about it affecting baby but I know I need to eat for my own sake.

I've had zero appetite since delivering. I've been living on a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a small dinner with a piece of fruit during the day. Not bf either so I'm not pushing myself to eat.

My appetite is way down too. I probably wouldn't be eating much if it weren't for my mum cooking and force feeding me!

I am EBF and even I'm having trouble eating. It was really bad at the beginning, I'd have like one small meal a day. I'm not almost three weeks pp and I'm still having to remind myself to eat.
Food and water aren't appealing here either but since I am nursing I really push myself to eat/drink as I have seen the difference it makes for my baby.
No appetite here either. Same thing happened with my son. It's also hard for me to fall asleep for the first few weeks post partum, I think with all my hormones going crazy I just feel generally unsettled and have a hard time just doing these normal everyday things.
I know it can take awhile but any other Mommas a week pp still without any signs of milk? This is starting to get very discouraging. I'm pumping and supplementing atm. I've started taking fenugreek per dr. suggestion. Just don't see this going according to plan anymore which is pretty much how my L&D experience was.

Did the hospital give you stuff to help? I got witch hazel pads, hydrocortisone, some numbing spray, and a sitz bath.
Also, ask for a prescription! And take lots of colace. I'm 7 days postpartum and today was the first day that wasn't excruciating
One thing I did notice for me is that my swelling stuck around a little bit and yesterday it finally pretty much went away. I could get my rings back on and wear certain shoes again. This is also when my pressures started dropping into more normal ranges so idk if this is affecting it for me too or just a side effect.
My bum and I thank you for any advice you have
Could what you're wearing make a difference? I felt more covered up when I'd pull a nursing tank down and a shirt up compared to just pulling a neckline down.
Eta : I don't cover the baby. DS used to fall asleep if he was covered and DS2 just plain old hates to be covered.
ETA: here is the cover I use https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUBNZC8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xDcqxb1SBRY9N

Im not BF so at least I'm not concerned about it affecting baby but I know I need to eat for my own sake.
Have you tried to contact LLL? Have you contacted a Lactation Consultant?
