Anyone have names yet?

Re: Anyone have names yet?

  • @lin0442 I love Maeve and would totally use it, but a lot of people would likely not spell or pronounce it correctly which is why we decided against it. It's very much my style though.

  • We are having a boy even tho we would have chosen the same name if he was a girl besides the middle name... Damani Daniel Joseph (Daniel Joseph is my DH he wanted a jr but he had to have his own first name) If he was a girl Damani Avery. This name has been an option since before our first child was born but really wanted to use it for a boy so I'm so glad we held out lol.
  • @jrusslle16 have you thought about using Emily as a middle name?
  • @jrusslle16 have you thought about using Emily as a middle name?
We're using my former middle name as the middle name no matter what first name we choose. I was really sad about dropping my middle name when we got married (I made my maiden name my middle name) so DH and I made a deal that we would be use it for our kid's middle name. It's a family name that has a lot of meaning to us. I think Emily will just have to be saved for a future child.

Coralie was on our list and was actually my front-runner, but I thought H said it weird and I was worried other people would say that way so I nixed it :(   Its a beautiful name though!

We don't really discuss names until after we know the sex.  I feel like it is a waste of time picking both sexes.  But of course I have some ideas.  I did learn last time that DH hates my top girl name (Eleanore nn Nora / Ellie).

Last time once we knew we had a boy on the way DH requested we use his deceased dad's name,  So we have Brian Elliott. I liked the name Brian because it is a normal name but isn't uber trendy.

Hoping to have the same luck with this baby.

Currently my top boy names are:

Harrison, Graham, Oliver, George, Liam, Pierce, Henry

My two fave girl names are Violet and Viviane.  Clearly I think I am having anther boy because I am way more focused on boy names!

Ohh you KNOW I love those V names!!

  • @ICUnurse09 my DH is the same way. He has always said our future child's name will be "Duracell Alkaline" (seriously, for years) and I'd laugh every time. Now that we are actually having a baby he still brings it up and I am getting nervous he's not kidding! My goodness that would be terrible.
Oh my gosh, my husband is the same way! Someone should start a "Worst Names Husbands Have Suggested" thread. I'm pretty sure I might win...

My husband won't even discuss names unless I admit each and every discussion that his choice is still at the top of the list - Chalupa Batman
    Surely he can't be serious...

We called DD "crazy shrimp monster" when I was pregnant with her (because let's face it, 6 week old embryos are crazy looking) and it did stick. We still sometimes call her the shrimp monster.

I'm so glad I'm not alone! Normally I just roll my eyes and pray that this is just the beginning of the terrible dad jokes.

We have a foreign looking last name that people like to pronounce as "Rash". So another one of his great ideas was to name one of them Diaper and the other one Ivy... *insert deep sigh here*

Our cat's name is Batman. He doesn't like sharing, his name or his prey. Please let your husband know this.

I hope your husband just has a strange sense of humor and isn't really serious. I feel like after you go through labor you should have ultimate veto rights.

I used to babysit an Ollie (short for Oliver as well). It's the cutest. I also really love the name Leah.

Yes, he's kidding. It's a storyline from the TV show "The League".

Pre-kids my DH used to say that he hoped we'd have fraternal twins so we could name one Crystal and the other Meth. Not funny, DH! Then before we found out we're having a girl he said if this baby was a boy he wanted the middle name to be Velociraptor. This morning he was telling DD that her name is so beautiful maybe we should name this new baby the same thing.

ETA - we obviously haven't come to an agreement yet.
  • ***Dec '16 lurker jumping in***

I'm loving the name Kaia right now and so far SO seems to like it.  Not set in stone yet but it's a front runner.  Middle names could be Quinn (our first date was at a pub called Quinn's), or Elizabeth.
I also like Ava, Isabella, and Abigail but they're all so popular right now.

For a boy, I have no idea.  Christopher is the only one that comes to mind.  Strange because with my first three babes I had long lists of boy names!
  • We find out the sex on Monday or so, have already picked out a girls name, but if it's a boy, it's going to be an epic battle. Husband has shot down all of my suggestions. So far, the girls name is Lenora Susanne. For a boy, Gabriel Micah is working itself up the list.
  • I'm pretty convinced I'm having a girl ( I don't know this yet), but we don't have any girl names we agree on... and have had a boy name picked forever. I'd prefer something not in the top 100, as I have a very common name and always had duplicates in my classes. I'm struggling thinking of any names because the ones I like are either very traditional (Grace, for example, which I know is very popular), or not traditional, and DH just can't seem to get on board (Collette was a recent fave, as well as Althea, Sutton). Any suggestions appreciated! :)

My friend named her daughter Hadley a few years back. I've always thought that was pretty and not popular.

Ugh....I don't even want to think about names yet. I have such a hard time finding names I love, and DH and I don't agree on a lot of names. We probably won't even discuss names until the anatomy scan, although he tries to bring it up every once in a while.
  • We are having a girl and her shall be Scarlett Trinity. Her dad pick out the name all by himself.
  • @jrussell16 that's a cute idea and at least you still get to use a name with meaning..
  • @justnesha - my Dad picked my name out too, and I wouldn't change it for anything. My Mom still likes telling me the story of how his Grandma hated the name choice until Mom told her he was responsible for it. All of a sudden she loved it.

For the record, I think Mom gave him a narrowed down list to choose from, but still.
  • I want her to feel the same way as you do. I didn't give him choices. I actually wanted her to have a unisex name but he feels that girls should have feminine names. Lol. Also he was not able to name his son so I kinda put my foot in my mouth as a joke I said he could name out future children and here we are

I think Ramona is pretty for a girl. Had a few cute nicknames.
  • For a boy we have Calvin Robert or Randall and girl we're not positive but the front runner for the moment is Alma Marie. I get to pick FN and SO gets to pick MN. Some shade being thrown at my Alma choice as daughter's FN ends in -na. Feels it's too similar. We'll see after we find out the sex.
  • I did have names, until DH and I went over them and they got dismissed. I don't like any of his favorites either.

My name was inspired by my maternal grandmother's, and I've always thought it was cool to have a name with "meaning." We can't really come up with any boy names that do the same thing. :/
  • This thread has me officially overwhelmed!!

H and I decided on Cohen Christopher (Christopher is my dads middle) for a boy. Then I googled and found out the name Cohen can be incredibly offensive to the Jewish community. I asked a few Jewish friends and family and none of them seemed phased by it, but I'm still wonky about using it. We are considering the Dutch version, Coen instead, but still not sure I love that as much. Whomp.

Any insight on the validity of the offensiveness would be appreciated!!

We we are also considering Chandler and Fletcher for boys, but Fletcher middle name would just be Chris, cuz Fletcher Christopher is just a no.

For girl I am 100% stuck on Eloise Kay (K is a family name) Our girls are Piper and Hadley and I feel like Eloise just fits perfectly with them. H is loving Elodie, but I'm not sold on the fact that it's a real name. I love it and think "Lottie" would be such a cute NN, but I need to have some solid proof that Elodie is in fact a name. Behind the name says not so much :/

We've named 3 babies in the past 18 months and haven't gotten to take any of them home. I seriously would be happy with any name at this point. I just really NEED this to be our take home baby.

Please don't use Cohen. It is a surname with a very sacred and specific meaning in the Jewish community. I personally would not be offended per se, nor would I treat your child badly by any means. But imho using that specific name does cross the line into cultural appropriation and isn't respectful at all.

Even with the best intention of choosing a name before birth, both of our girls didnt end up with their names until a day or two after they were born. We are too darn indecisive.

Our 1st was going to be Audrey Clara, but after calling her that for a while we actually settled on Daphne Daniella. Our 2nd was going to be Scarlett Annalise, but we settled on Penelope Jocelyn. We are team green and I'm sure this little one will follow suit and a name will settle nicely when we meet him/her.

I am loving Hollis or Eisley for a girl and Bennett or Lincoln for a boy. We'll see!
  • My H is stuck on the name Astrid for our girl. I suggested we use a Scandinavian name, as his mom and my grandpas families are Scandinavian and I found a lot of names I like. I like the name Astrid, I just worry it looks like we tried too hard to pick a unique name... The more I think about it, the more it grows on me though!
