We're actually decided on names this time. Which is a change because we argued about my daughter's name forEVER.
Boy: Russell David (family names, this was our boy pick for last time too) Girl: Zoe Agatha
Our DD is Vera. We picked it because H is a huge philosophy nerd and we liked the similarity to the Latin word for truth. H initially wanted Agatha for the first name for this one (from the Greek for Agata which means "good") but I wasn't wild about it. Zoe is from the Greek for "life," and together her name would mean "the good life" which I think is awesome. And I think Vera and Zoe sound cute together.
ETA: if we have two girls, and decide to have a third child and she is a girl, we'll need a name that means "beauty," so we can have a Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
We have been 100% set on Emily for a girl for years (after my grandmother), but my cousin just named her daughter Emily. Normally I wouldn't care because I come from a huge extended family and we have some duplicates already, but little Emily was born at 24 weeks and has had a really rough couple of months with a very long road ahead and it seems inconsiderate to name our baby the same thing right now.
Now that we know for sure that we're having a girl, it's back to the drawing board for us. We're having a hard time coming up with names we like but right now the list is Julia, Lydia, Molly and Winnie. We won't pick a final name until we get to meet her though.
It is so difficult when you have your heart set on a name and can't end up using it for whatever reason. I've loved the name Leo for years, even picked out the middle name that would flow really well. Now that we're actually having a baby, my husband's cousin is now dating (and also having a baby with) someone named Leo so my husband has vetoed it.
But all the names you have as back ups are great. I especially love Lydia, just a classic, pretty name.
All my favorite names are disqualified for some reason or another. Either they don't work with DD's name, don't work with our last name, have weird biblical associations that upset me (like Delilah or Issac) or have been used by cousins, or children of cousins. Grumble. Grumble grumble.
H initially wanted Agatha for the first name for this one (from the Greek for Agata which means "good") but I wasn't wild about it. Zoe is from the Greek for "life," and together her name would mean "the good life" which I think is awesome.
I am in love with this! I normally wouldn't have gone for Agatha but the meanings together are so sweet. That really did make me smile!
We have a few for girls we both love. Nora, Grace, Isla, and Violet. I've always wanted Annabelle, Anna for short, but DH addamently vetos every time I bring it up. We both love Clara too, but SIL has always called Claire as her girl name since day 1.
Boys are so much harder. We don't love anything. Greyson, James, Peter, Liam, and Henry are all on our list so far. I'm having the problem of really liking traditional names, but then sounding really biblical when paired with our son.
My favorites change daily. Right now, they're Hannah and Evan. I don't think I can choose the final name until I meet baby, though. My husband has a very common one-syllable last name. You'd think that would make choosing a name easier, but really it's much harder! I love single-syllable names but so many of them sound so plain with his last name (which we've chosen as the baby's last name so that's not up for debate.)
@lilwonder no I'd definitely still leave it on the list!
I second this. She doesn't own the name.
For a girl it'll be Emily Isabella (my great grandmother was Belle). For a boy William is our top choice (After SO's grandfathers), but we also like Ryan (we may wait and see). For a boy the middle name will be my mom's maiden name after my grandfather (deceased) but also for the whole family. Since we're not married I insisted that I get to choose the middle name after my family since the kids will already have SO's last name. Unfortunately my last name is not really a good middle name and my cousin's kid's middle name (he'll be born anyday now) will be my other grandfather's name so that side of the family is covered.
If it's a boy, I think we're going with Hudson Thomas (Thomas is my dad's name). For a girl, we've kind of narrowed it down to Elle or Marlowe.
The middle name for a girl is tough. We agreed to use family names and, since our son has a name from my husband's side, this baby will have one from my side. The only girl name I would want to use is Genevive (my Grandma) but my sister already used it for my niece and it feels weird to use it again.
So I'm really leaning towards using Thomas as the middle name for a girl. I know, it's weird. But it's a middle name so most people won't ever know. My dad has always wanted someone to be named after him (he got close when my aunt named her son Thomas, but she went out of her way to tell him it was not after him) and I know it would mean a lot. And we have an interesting last name, so I figure if she ever needs a stage name she can just use that!
Thoughts? We don't even know if it's a girl, so I know it's silly to be worried about it. But I'm a planner and I'm obsessed with names and I can't help it.
Well I was in love with all of our girl names and none of our boy names excite me. I keep looking, adding to the list and figuring that a few months from now that a few will seem like winners.
Question: If you had a "friend" from HS that you haven't seen in 12 years (you have some mutual friends still) and she names her son one of the only names you really love, would you take it off your list? I'm more inclined to just remove her as a friend on FB, and keep the name on my list! Hahaha.
Haha I'm in the same boat! For a girl name! I think I'm going to just delete her on Facebook lol. Love the name too much.
@mksbc have you asked your sister if she would mind you used Genevive? My middle name is a family name (it was my grandma's stepmothers name - her mom died when she was young) and it's also my moms middle name and my cousins middle name who's a couple of years younger than me. I think it's kind of nice that we have the same middle name!
We aren't decided on a boy name although we have always liked Nicholas, Isaac, and Brandon/Gavin. Girls names my husband doesn't seem to have a preference. I like Collins and Noah. Lydia was on our list last time but a good friend recently had a girl and used it so that's out. I like Danica, NN Dani. I think he likes Vanessa and Cassandra too.
Our other girls are Natalie, Ryan (my maiden name), and Maxine.. so I think anything will go with those.
We're having a boy and we're naming him Logan... It's not my favorite or my first choice, but it's better than Clinton, which DF almost wouldn't budge on. I figure as long as we both like name, it works!

@sweetlyuntied I love the Vera and Zoe combination - especially the meaning behind it
@MksbcI don't think it'd be weird to use Thomas as a middle name for a girl. For both this baby and our first, we had the same middle names whether it was a boy or a girl. I think Thomas works - especially with a more feminine first name.
We agree on a girl's name, and it will be Leah Charlotte, the L for my grandmother and the C for his grandfather.
The current boy name is Charles Louis, but I am not 100% on it. My stepson's middle name is Charlie---husband had two grandfathers who were both named Charles and since one of them was still alive when stepson was born, his name only counts for the first grandfather and husband feels that Charles/Charlie is totally usable again. Stepson isn't the type who will care, but I am wary about making waves with husband's ex over this. Alas, the only other boy name husband likes is Max, which I don't like...
We have several names on our list but for now the top are Lincoln and Amelia. Once we know the sex we will discuss further, have 2-3 names going into the birth and decide on the name once the kid is born.
Hey, since I speak German, my husband speaks Italian and we speak English with each other we wanted a name that works in all three languages. We are not too sure about English. What do you think about the name CORVIN? (It's Latin meaning raven.) Plus, we can't decide on a middle name. Any suggestions?
Hello @Mksbc, personally I wouldn't mind using Thomas as a middle name. I like traditions But you could also think about a different form of the name. The Spanish name Tomasa comes to mind. Maybe have a look around in that direction.
Well it has a little bit of a different pronunciation with the z. It's like toe-maz. If we did Thomas I'd just do the traditional but my husband isn't a fan of either so I guess it's a moot point for me.
@JanaRomeoHaha it's all I've got! I really like the name Conrad. I assume that would work for both? But other than that.. maybe some form of Alex or mark?

Our naming philosophy for boys is: classic, masculine, spelled correctly,
A girl would be Elizabeth, called Betty (after my sweet Mimi who was the best woman in the world).

For boy names, we have nothing! I vetoed DH's favorite (Emerson), and he vetoed mine (Milo), and we can't agree on ANYTHING!
DH is very into nature, so if anyone has a good nature-inspired boy name, let me know!

For a girl, I absolutely love Adalyn. A close second would be Brynnlee.
what do you guys think?
