@freudianmamma - I can imagine how there's a little bit of jealousy there. I have a younger cousin and sister-in-law that I know are both trying and everytime I'm with them I dread their announcment.. It's actually anxiety inducing!
Once I get the appropriate number of follies, I will use ovidrel to ovulate. THis cycle, since there weren't enough follies, it didn't make sense to go that route!

Whew - I'm exhausted! We had our first RE appointment this morning and it lasted about 4 hours, but we have a plan. RE will take over my IUI this month (just finished by last dose of letrozole this morning). They don't do any monitoring during orally medicated IUI cycles unless they suspect you are annovulatory & they also don't use trigger shots. So I'm to use an OPK (not with FMU) until I detect my LH surge, then the next day we'll go down to the clinic & they'll perform the IUI. I found out that my OB actually did her residency under the RE I saw, so that was kind of cool.
We're going to do 3-4 total orally medicated IUI cycles, then we have the choice to either move on to injectable IUI cycles or go straight to IVF. The RE recommended IVF over IUI with injectables, because in his experience it ends up being more cost effective.
The bummer part was that today is cd7, and they didn't see any follicle on my ultrasound He said there still was a chance one could pop up in the next few days, but he wasn't hopeful. So I'll just be keeping my fingers crossed for a positive OPK next week!

@lefemmeviolette The last two IUIs I did I was very positive the day of and then two days later I would get really down and negative. This whole journey is such an emotional roller coaster- but some days are definitely better than others. As for IUIs, sometimes when I get down about the IUI process I remind myself about one of my dear friends who got pregnant on her 5th IUI at 40. It was basically a hail mary for her as IVF was out of the question for her for financial reasons. Now she has a gorgeous baby boy. Hang in there
@Monica54321 I'm glad you had a good appt at the RE. My follies would show up on CD 10-11 usually. Did your RE mention taking some more meds to help?

@Monica54321 im glad the re is going to take over your cycle. I would push for another follie check to see if next cycle you should up your dosage.
AFM I got the all clear to start letrozole on CD5, I'll be taking 3 pills a day so I think thats 7.5mg. As of now my IUI should be on the 7th, I'll go in on the 6th for an US and they'll confirm if I'm good to go.
This might be a stupid question, but... Do I need to be fasting for my monitoring blood work tomorrow AM. My clinic does blood/ultrasound monitoring from 7:30-9:45 only. Nobody mentioned that I should be fasting, but tonight my husband asked and I had no clue. I can't think of any reason I should be, but just thought I'd see if ya'll had some wisdom to guide me.
Hi all, I'm new here, but have found it comforting to hear others stories since I am 28 and don't know anyone else struggling with inferility (90% of my friends are pregnant or have kids in the last year). We have been together for 10+ years and married for almost 3. We tried on our own for 8 months since I am regular and ovulate based on OPK. 2 months ago saw RE and all testing came back fine with the exception that my AMH is only 1.50, which is apparently low for being 28 (clomid test came back borderline at FSH of 9.7) and could indicate DOR. First month did clomid with trigger and TI and resulted in BFN., despite good response to clomid. Decided to move on to clomid and trigger and IUI in April. Everything looked good on the ultrasound, but unfortunately just had BFN 13 days after IUI. My RE makes me confirm with a blood test before I can stop my progesterone, so that will be tomorrow. I know it will be negative but still hard to hear again. By this point I just want to get AF ASAP and move on to May.
sorry for the long post, but wanted to share some background since I have read everyone else's on the thread. Will be doing IUI in May (likely around 5/15ish), but potentially moving on to injectibles instead of clomid. It's hard to continue to be hopeful when nothing appears to be wrong each month (ovulation confirmed with day 20 progesterone test and IUI puts the little guys right where they need to be!) I have now meant my deductible, and have a lifetime limit for insurance for infertility that will start applying this month, so it's balancing of trying to get IUI to work and giving it a fair shot, but I also don't want to use up the coverage if we need to do IVF in the end anyways. Part of me thinks there is something wrong that is still not diagnosed and IVF may be the only way to over come it. Thanks for listening and I can only hope that May is the best of news for us all!

@JamieH2000 welcome! Thanks for sharing your story / history. I'm 30, and I swear EVERYONE is pregnant, lol. No one really understands the struggle of infertility unless they've been through it themselves, it seems. I agree, it's hard to hold out hope. Hang in there, you're not alone!

@Monica54321 Glad to hear things went well and you have a plan in place! I haven't heard of an RE not monitoring while on oral meds (especially clomid since that one can thin your uterine lining making implantation unlikely). But maybe you're fine on letrozole? Good luck! @BornReady I have never had to fast for any appointment with the RE. Of course I don't know for sure, but I would think they would make that very clear to you if it was needed! @JamieH2000 Welcome and thanks for sharing your history! It's so tough when everyone else is pregnant. I'm in the same boat. I stopped going on Facebook because it would sadly ruin my day if I saw a pregnancy announcement, and they were popping up right and left. It's so hard to see others around you moving forward and reaching their dreams of motherhood and we're here trying so hard and experiencing month after month of disappointment. Hopefully May will bring some good news for us!

@JamieH2000 deciding between the fertility options is really overwhelming! We don't have insurance coverage for IUI or IVF but our clinic does have one of those Shared Risk Plans that we are probably going to use if we need to. Fingers crossed that none of us on here get to that point though!
This month my RE changed my regiment a little. Last month we did Day 3-7 100mg of clomid and then started follistim 50-75 mg daily (depending on how big follies were looking at ultrasound) Day 11-Day 16 before having us do the trigger shot on Day 17. This month seems to be different. Day 5 was yesterday and I did 100 mg clomid and 50 mg of follistim in the same day.
Has anyone else done clomid plus stims on the same day? It is really messing with my stomach.

@madasm0530 That's wonderful that you see a therapist and I'm glad they were able to get you in sooner than end of June. I'm a therapist myself and I'm seriously considering a specialty in IF after going through all this. Of course, only once I'm past being in the middle of it myself. Right now I specialize in couples and parenting, which I absolutely love but it can be difficult working with parents while dealing with infertility. But it's what I'm good at and I've received intensive training in it! So I just try to separate things as best as I can.

Had my monitoring ultrasound/bw this morning. I had 2, 20mm follies on my left and a good lining. Waiting to hear from the nurse to see what to do to move forward. I'm guessing trigger tonight, we'll see!
Thanks @wifeinraleigh28 , no fasting needed! It was one of those things that never occurred to me and when DH asked, I was at a loss for an answer.
Had my 2nd IUI this morning. Much better experience this time around- not much of a wait (prob because it was a weekday) and the actual process was quicker and much less painful. (It was a female nurse doing the IUI this time, whereas last time it was a male Dr). Maybe women are gentler?
The only disappointing thing is DH's count was only 12mil. Last time, we had 37mil. Not sure what why the count would fluctuate so much. But nevertheless, the nurse said anything about 10mil is good.
And so begins the next TWW...

@LeFemmeViolette Glad to hear it went well!! I had a female nurse for my first IUI and then Dr. Meyer for my 2nd... I actually preferred having Dr. Meyer do it and it was quicker. I guess the experience just varies from time to time! And yes, anything above 10 mil is a good post wash count. We only had 7 mil for IUI #1 and 9 mil for IUI #2. @wifeinraleigh28 As a fellow therapist, I am also interested in learning more about IF counseling after this whole process. I currently do parenting and childhood trauma and feel like it would be a good addition to my practice and a good resource for the community, which currently is pretty limited in this area.
Wow @BornReady and @wifeinraleigh28 there seem to be a lot of therapists on this board! I am 2 months away from graduating with my Masters and my internship has been working with kids and family in a low income area of PA. This has been hard for me as well.
DH and I go to a couples counselor who has experience with infertility herself and conceived via IVF and this has been very helpful for us. She knows how hard it is since she has gone through it herself. I think it's a great idea to give that specialty some consideration if we can handle it at some point.

@LMart85 - I'll have my FX for some good growth for you!
I was really hoping my RE would do some monitoring, just so I'd have better insight into how things are going and something to do besides just wait. He said there's no need for monitoring because letrozole doesn't thin your lining the way clomid can. Also, since they don't do triggers, there's no need to monitor for follicle growth for timing purposes. Just wait for your LH surge to determine when to do the IUI. Then if you don't O that month, they'll adjust your oral medicine dosing for the next month. Logically, it all makes sense, but I'm just dying for something to do besides wait!

LMart85- Sorry to hear about the slow growth! Hoping Sunday comes quick and will be your IUI day!
Monica54321- Thanks for tracking everyone's dates. I find it very helpful! I totally hear you on the monitoring. Even though you aren't "doing" anything with monitoring, it definitely helps me feel like I am somehow more in control (maybe just less worrying) if I know what is going on.
BornReady- Congrats on the good U/S! By the time I have triggered the last two months, I am normally in a good mood and hopeful again after last month's disappointment, so hoping you are feeling good too! Hopefully this will be your month!
freudianmamma- I really hope neither of us needs IVF either! We would have to consider the shared risk plan too. Sometimes I feel so "why me" to be in this situation, but I also feel so blessed to have some insurance to help with the cost. I really believe everyone should have coverage. I feel like most parents wouldn't agree that having a baby is an "elective" procedure, but rather something that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue with all the options available now. The costs just add to one of the hardest situations a couple could go through.

Re: May IUI
Once I get the appropriate number of follies, I will use ovidrel to ovulate. THis cycle, since there weren't enough follies, it didn't make sense to go that route!

We're going to do 3-4 total orally medicated IUI cycles, then we have the choice to either move on to injectable IUI cycles or go straight to IVF. The RE recommended IVF over IUI with injectables, because in his experience it ends up being more cost effective.
The bummer part was that today is cd7, and they didn't see any follicle on my ultrasound

AFM I got the all clear to start letrozole on CD5, I'll be taking 3 pills a day so I think thats 7.5mg. As of now my IUI should be on the 7th, I'll go in on the 6th for an US and they'll confirm if I'm good to go.
I'm new here, but have found it comforting to hear others stories since I am 28 and don't know anyone else struggling with inferility (90% of my friends are pregnant or have kids in the last year).

I see a therapist who specializes in prenatal, postnatal and IF and I called yesterday becuase I just felt like I needed an appointment, i was feeling way down! her next available was the end of June and I about lost my s! The gal on the phone obviously sensed my frustration and put me into her voicemail and I was able to get an appt much sooner. It's the little things that make this journey tolerable!!

Wow, glad we have all these therapists on this page, hopefully your wise words will help keep us all sane through this rollercoaster journey
