  • Congrats Monica54321! Hope everything goes smoothly and this is your month! Did you use the OPK with the smiley face? I always loved seeing that not blinking smiley face :)

My RE hasn't typically told me all my follicle sizes, perhaps I should be asking? Sometimes the more I know, the more stressed/worried I get since I am very much a data/analytical person. My RE has been doing this for so long, sometimes I feel like she forgets some of us are new to the whole process and would like more info.

I had my baseline yesterday and everything looked good on bloodwork (she didn't give me an exact follicle count- but said I had a good amount on the left side, not as much on the right) and starting injections today. My RE is starting me at 150, which I thought seemed a little high based off googling (seems like people do anywhere between 50-250+ per day). What dosages are others on?

On Monday I will go in for monitoring, so if there is too much response, then we will do less. I would just hate to waste this $1000k of drugs if somehow I get too much response. Given then I have never gotten a BFP, I will take the risk of having 2 or even 3 vs. 0 I suppose!

Cant wait to see who will be our group's first BFP this month!

Congrats @Monica54321 and GL on your IUI tomorrow!

@JamieH2000 What meds are you taking?  I'm taking 125 units of follistim, so not that much lower than your 150.  I think 150 is pretty common actually.  FX for a good response!

Tonight will be day 4 of stims and I'm going in the morning for follie check.  I feel like crap today.  I've been very moody/emotional, tired, hot, and light headed.  Anyone else feel this way?  I never had these symptoms the other times I took follistim.  I cried to DH for absolutely no reason (other than not feeling well) before I left for work this afternoon and he made me feel a lot better by telling me I look beautiful. :)  I KNOW I look like shit today.  Oh hormones.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 hormones suck! I haven't done follistim but have dealt with the mood swings and crappy feeling due to hormones. I hope all this means is that you are developing some nice big follies.

Congrats @Monica54321 on the positive OPK. Good luck on your IUI tomorrow :)

    Hi All,
I've been reading along and just wanted to jump in.  I am currently 2 dpiui on my 2nd Clomid/IUI cycle.  I have high FSH and only one ovary & tube.  Hubby's numbers are "excellent" as per RE.  My first IUI cycle was a bit of a mess... We went to the RE for our first appt on Mar 22 and she told us my FSH was high (10.9) but my HSG was clear, I was ovulating on my own (progesterone on 7dpo was 45), I only had 4 follicles on my only ovary so she recommended IVF but said we could try IUI/Clomid first and sent us on our way to decide... Well we didn't end up having much time to decide what to do as AF showed the next morning!  We decided to try 3 cycles of IUI with Clomid (she put me on 100mg to start due to the low follicle count)... I had every side effect Clomid is known to cause - it was awful!  We scheduled a follicular US for CD12 but I ended up with a positive OPK on CD10 (confirmed LH surge with bloodtest) and we had our first IUI on CD11 (I normally ovulated about CD17 so it was almost a week early!).  It was AWFUL - it hurt and I bled... I had cramps the ENTIRE month (likely due to the Clomid).  Resulted in BFN.  My AF was super light and only lasted 3 days so there were likely some lining issues due to ovulating so early.  This cycle they brought me in on CD9 for and US.  There were 3 large follicles (17.5, 18 & 18.5) and my lining "looked good".  I ended up with a positive OPK on CD12 and we went for IUI on CD13.  I had a temp spike yesterday morning and I don't have any more ovary pain so I'm fairly confident that our timing was good.  We were also able to BD the night before IUI (due to Hubby having good numbers) and night after.  Officially in my TWW!

  • Wifeinraleigh28- I'm taking follistism as well. Tonight was my first time ever and I was so nervous with the pen since the little 900unit cartridge was like $900. I'll do 150 for 5 days and then get checked. Did your RE also prescribe ganirelix acetate? It showed up with my other meds and my RE didn't tell me what it was for or when to take it, so I'll call them tomorrow and ask. Based on Google, looks like it delays ovulation so maybe it will help hold that off if I need to keep stimming longer? 2014mrs- congrats to being in the tww! Hope it goes fast and you get good news!

So I kind of dropped off the face of the earth in April and miss everyone's updates. Sorry about that.  It was a hard month. So I have my fingers crossed for all of you!

I went for my baseline tests today and will find out tomorrow if this month is a go. Hopefully my cyst is gone. If everything goes well my IUI should be around May 17.

@srh18 I soooooo agree with u!! I'm starting to question so much.  My re told me the success rate with iui vs ti was nearly equal? ??? I'm THINKING huh??? So with unexplained infertility,  what on earth should I be doing here??!?...and how do I judge which is the better route? I thought that was the Re's job??? My goodness..... cycle day 12 tomorrow morning to ck follies, trigger arrived this evening.....we'll see
  • srh18srh18 member
@CooCoo4U I know-the iui vs TI thing has always made me feel crazy too!! I got the call later today that they don't want me to trigger until tomorrow so no iui for me this month. I think we will probably take next cycle off if I don't get a BFP this time around, then one or maybe two more iuis before exploring ivf. 8+ months of working with the re is plenty for me! Out of my three best friends, one is due in a few weeks and one is due in October...I just want to get a BFP before all these babies start popping out. Especially because I started TTC before either of them. Sheesh. Haha.

Fx for a good check up tomorrow!!!! Last month did not seem to get many good results so hopefully we get some good news this time around!! I will be sending so many good thoughts your way!! <3

  • @CooCoo4U My RE also mentioned the "there's no real difference between TI and IUI.". I was like, uh why are we here then?!? Even after my IUI, I left feeling like I couldn't believe that insurance companies charge so much for such a simple procedure.

As for the procedure I was wondering what other's clinics due in regards to laying down after the procedure. My nurse said there was no reason to lie down, but I've read that most do the lie down for 15 minutes after? I laid down for 10-15 minutes after and had a long ride home after, but just curious.

Yes, the ganirelix is to delay ovulation when your follicles get close to maturing.  For my last 2 IUIs my RE had me add in ganirelix when my follies measured about 16mm.  So far I've only had to take it for 1-2 days before triggering.  Ganirelix is an easy medicine to take because the syringe is pre-filled, so no need to mess with some stupid pen, lol.  My DH has done all my injections so I don't even really know how to use the follistim pen.  I hear there are some good youtube videos though that can help with that.

@pmjb FX for good news today and that you'll be able to continue with this cycle!

@Monica54321 I hope all goes well at your IUI today and you don't have the same miserable experience as last time.  Please keep us posted!

@BornReady and @CooCoo4U As for the whole IUI vs. TI thing... my RE told me that IUI gives you better chances because of sperm washing.  But maybe that's mostly for if you have MFI.  Like for us we have a motility issue so it helps a lot to remove all the ones that aren't moving so they don't stand in the way of the feisty ones.  Maybe for your dx's though it doesn't make a huge difference.  Of course I'm only guessing :)

Halfway through the 2ww today. Still testing out the ovidrel- looks like maybe it'll be fully out of my system later today or tomorrow.

Feeling like crap from the progesterone. Yesterday I was so bloated I looked legit pregnant. All pants were too tight, and I also have that feeling you get right before your period where it feels like your uterus is gearing up to wreak havoc.

I've tried to make some dietary changes now that I know how I react to the progesterone- cutting out soda has helped. But I still feel like Violet from Willy Wonka.

@LeFemmeViolette I have had that feeling for the last few months! Are you going to poas this week or wait till your beta? I think you'll be the first of us to test this month!
  • @ale9687 I've actually been POAS each day after the IUI (with very cheap tests). This is to test out the ovidrel so I know when its out of my system and i can trust the results again. The lines on the test have been getting lighter everyday, so I think it will be out of my system today or tomorrow. Then I'll keep testing in the hopes that the line will come back.

  • @LeFemmeViolette That's a perfect visual :)

I had my vaginal probing appointment this morning.  I have 13 total follicles and 3 front runners measuring 14 mm.  For the first time since I started treatments they decided to test my estrogen levels, which the nurse said will give them a better idea of my ovarian activity.  They told me my next vaginal probing will be on Saturday and I will likely be ready to trigger that night for IUI on Monday.  But the plan could change once my doc reviews my lab work.

My clinic did not have their shit together this morning.  The nurse who did my ultrasound said they had me down for TI (I've never done TI and this is IUI #3).  Then when I went to check out they wanted to charge me $300 for  my visit today (I've never paid more than my $70 co-pay for a consultation with the doctor and usually ultrasound appointments are between $30-55).  They fixed it, but sheesh.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 - i feel you with the clinic not having it together.  My RE has said to us in the past, "how was your night?  I wanted to see you back the next day to check" when we had actually not been there for days...and each new Dr who is up in there sees the endometrioma that I have for the first time and lets me know that I have one... doesn't anyone look at the charts before they come in?  sheesh....

@roxgibbons - I just want to say that are a little bit of an inspiration to me this morning as I read about your experiences lately. I love how you channeled that energy from the difficult past months into accupuncture and exercise.  I think we are all rock stars for how unbelievably hard this journey is.

@paigeed - I hope af arrived!  I have a friend who is going through the same thing.  She has been waiting to start IVF and has all 1,000 boxes of meds in her fridge and AF just won't show!

@wifeinraleigh28 - I totally hear you with the hot flashes!  They are so weird!  I have had them on the clomid and now with the follistim as well.

@freudianmamma AF still hasn't shown. I'm really struggling today. I called the RE to tell them I am 18 days past a positive ovulation test (I have never had multiple surges) and what I should do, if anything. I hope your friend's AF will show up as well. Waiting, praying, trying to be hopeful is so hard some days.

  • Thank you @wifeinraleigh28 I feel like it happened the way it was supposed to happen.  My DH had done cryo-freeze Monday before he left town for the week since we thought id trigger today, after the wash we only got 1 vial.

NOW, my DH will be home tomorrow, so he can help with my trigger between 7-9, AND we can use a FRESH sample which my doctor prefers instead of the frozen one!! Only hiccup is my stepsons communion BUT i figure we can high tail it to the church after and even get a little prayer in ;)

  • @BornReady ..so I'm not crazy?!?!? After my iui they elevated the table for twenty minutes butt in the air..lol

So just a little update ... went for us cycle day 12.... had two follies.  Left -22....Right -23... ready to trigger but no y from re or nurse yet....still torn on the iui vs ti thing.....I just want this cycle to be a success..
    Hope everyone's doing well!!!!!  <3
  • Had my IUI yesterday afternoon.  It was difficult again, but not quite as bad as the first time.  The nurse ended up having to use ultrasound to help get the catheter placed again, but this time the US came to my room, instead of me having to go to US like at my OBs office.  We agreed that if I have to have another IUI we'll just start with ultrasound to save me some pain.  My uterus is extremely anteflexed which is what is causing the difficulty - so they're also going to have me have a full bladder to help prop the uterus up a bit next time as well.

Good luck @Monica54321 in your tww.

Afm just had my cd12 us and very little growth so canceling this cycle. I'll go in Tuesday to meet with my RE to move onto injectibles, hopefully with IVF since insurance doesn't care IUI or IVF. Good luck to all those May IUI's. I'll continue lurking to see some BFP's this month.

I've been having TERRIBLE cramping for the last 30 minutes. Can't stand or sit up straight and the pain is making me extremely nauseous. Anyone else experience something similar day after IUI? I had a similar reaction 2 days after IUI last time.

  • @Monica54321 You could be having O cramps.  O can be much more intense when you take fertility meds, most likely from having more than one mature follicle.  I've experienced this with my medicated cycles as well.  Had a hard time standing up too and my RE said this is normal.  I hope you feel better soon!

  • @monica54321 glad your IUI went well!! FX for you!

Ummm you guys aren't going to believe what happened to me this morning (or maybe you will haha). So my ovidrel injection was supposed to be delivered this morning and they ALWAYS come before 8:30 AM so DH is still home getting ready for work. Well today they called me at 9 and said that they were trying to deliver it but that nobody was home and they couldn't leave it on the door step because it had to be signed for. I had back to back meetings this morning so I couldn't run home so I had no choice but to have the guy come to my work and drop if off... and now the stupid box is sitting in the refrigerator at work!! UGHHH the shit we go thru...

  • @monica54321 during my medicated cycles I felt sick nauseous and very crampy. I asked the nurse and she mentioned that it was hormone related especially since multiple follicles were mature and being released- glad your IUI went well  and good luck w/ TWW.

@freudianmama you are so sweet! That made my day readying your message in the thread- I am trying so hard to stay positive and take care of myself right now- some days it's a struggle but I'm focusing on teh areas I have control in.

@teamginger13 Ughh- that is so annoying, I'm sorry. I'm glad you were able to get the box though- Yes this shit we go through... I totally second that!

@lefemmeviolette I didn't do progesterone, but the last time I did an IUI I had ovidrel and it made me huge! It was unbelievable how bloated I got and how long it lasted- I couldn't fit into any pants. I was all about leggings and flowy shirts. Good Luck!
