Re: April/May IVF

  • Thanks @PrincessSabert I probably just have to get used to it. I may have it a bit wrinkled, so that could be it too. Next time I'll stand up to apply it instead of just leaning back in my chair. :)

  • Hi everyone!

I think I posted on the wrong lost earlier...so I'm reposting on this one. Oops.

Goodness, it's so hard to keep up! There are so many great things going on with everyone and I'm so excited to see everyone's progress!

I started red my period today (a couple days early) and had a sonogram and medicine training today and we are starting injections tomorrow. According to my sono today they saw 11 Foliciles! I was surprised because my FSH was 15.5.

i can't believe my shots start tomorrow, I know it will all be a crazy ride the next couple weeks. We are doing s fresh transfer so please say prayers. This is our first IVF/ICSI. TIA!
  • I got my FET protocol today.  RE wasn't happy with some of my labs, my APS looks like it's getting worse, and I need to start taking vitamin D.  I also almost delayed a month since I didn't receive my folgard at my last baseline appointment (I have MTHFR and my son has a spinal defect and a minor neural tube defect) but since I've been taking prenatal we are going to start.  I will start taking meds Saturday (Folgard today) and I will be taking Lovenox instead of Heparin this go around.

At this point I just need to pick a date for the transfer (May 20,23,or 25)

  • Hi everyone!
I was part of the Feb IVF group and had my second unsuccessful IVF cycle.  I just started stims for IVF #3 and would love to join you ladies. We changed my protocol a bit and I added acupuncture and lots of vitamin supplements hoping that it may hope to improve my egg quality.  I had my baseline on Saturday and was excited to see that I had 8 or 9 baby follicles when last time I only started with two.  Here's to hoping that May is the month.  I dropped out for awhile after February to get my head in a better place but have been lurking and am so excited to hear about everyone's successes this next month.  This is a going to be a great month...I can feel it!!

  • Welcome @radmom27 sending positive vibes your way!
  • Hello, ladies.   I need a little help this morning, may be a little tmi for some lol.  Anyone  on Endometrin?  I'm used to the mess by now,  but this morning there were also 2 little pink spots of blood.   The box said that can be a side effect and the RE said there might be spotting, but I'm still freaking out a little lol.  Should I be worried?  Happy?  Just try to forget it for the next 9 days until beta?  Lol.  Please send calming thoughts.  I'm so glad you ladies are here,  you're all awesome.   :)  Good luck to everyone today.
  • Good morning ladies! I've been trying to catch up on this threat, but I got way behind. It looks like a lot has been going on and I'm very excited for everyone who has started their treatments, got their protocols and is well on their way in the cycle! Can't wait to read all your updates and catch up. I'm still patiently waiting for this Friday to go in for my u/s and b/w and get a more definitely transfer date.

@PrincessSabert If the RE and the box said spotting may be a side effect, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless, of course, you feel it's more than that. Then I would just call the doctor. I'm sure they will tell you not to worry as well. Hope the next 9 days fly by for you!
@radmom27 welcome! Hope this cycle brings you success!
@chickyclg I bet you're excited to get your protocol and know that your FET will be here soon!
@LizMB sending prayers your way for a successful first cycle!

  • @princesssabert I think some spotting is fairly common with that as it can irritate the cervix. I know when I was on estrace and prometrium vaginally, I got very irritated down there and had some minor spotting. I would say if it continues or gets worse to call your RE again. I know some ladies on here have switched meds and maybe to injections b/c of that and the stress/worry that goes along with it.

I'm so excited for all of you that are finally getting started and/or getting  your protocols! The wait seems forever at times!

@tulips29 Friday will be here before you know it!

  • More than a couple spots now, not really sure what to think but will probably call nurse line later today, you may be right @mtpbadger.
Thank you @mtpbadger @Tulips29.  :)  I have  a meeting at work here in a few minutes that should take my mind off things lol.
@tulips29 that is an exciting time.  Not long now. ;)
As well as being on a roller coaster I  also feel I'm stuck in a plane on holding pattern lol, just waiting for the end result.   But it will be here before I know it and it will all be worth it.   :)  Hope everyone is having a good day.  :)
  • Sorry I have to vent for a minute. I had everything all set up at work. My boss was fine with me being in and out as needed, working from home is I have bad side effects, cool with the impromptu time off. Then she volunteered me for a project with a different team, that starts today. I asked her repeatedly to explain my situation leaving out specifics, but of course that didn't occur. So now I'm stuck trying to explain to this group that I may miss meetings w/o telling them exactly what's going on. It has just added a level of stress that I did not need and I'm angry because I went out of my to get assurances that this wouldn't happen.  I just want to cry. Not to mention my role on the new team is very menial, not really what i'm trained to do. I know other people have it worse, but i'm feeling lousy right now :(

asm - suppression check tomorrow, might start stims tomorrow night...i should be excited.
Me & DH - 41, DH has a cyst blocking his tubes, I'm just old.
    IVF #1 scheduled May 2016 - 375/525 follistim, 75 menopur - cancelled cycle Day 6
    IVF #2 scheduled July 2016 - new protocol, switcharoo...IUI June 2016 - BFN
IVF#3 scheduled August 2016 - estrogen & testosterone primed for 3 wks - ganirelix 7 days leading up to stim - 500 follistim, 75 menopur, 150 clomid , no follicle growth on day 6, stopped injectibles. Scanned day 9 just to check, some growth, 3 days 200 mg clomid, day 12 more growth, 100 follistim, 75 menopur, start ganirelix on day 13, ER = 0 eggs, ovulated to soon ( :( )
IVF#4 scheduled Sept 2016 - Microdose Flare protocol, cancelled stim day 6 converted to IUI (one dominant follicle)  :(  IUI cancelled ovulated too soon again. Taking a mental health break.
IVF#5 December 2016 - New protocol, same results. My adventure is over.

  • @KirstenCas I'm so sorry your boss did that, what a pain and definitely a stress that you don't need. :( I hope that everyone is cool and leaves you in peace, and that you can feel supported as best as possible. Hugs!

  • @kirstencas when I have to tell people I just say I will be out some days for medical reasons but please don't worry I am not sick but it is a personal issue that I don't want to get into right now.
That usuall works. I had a rough time because I didn't want people to think I was sick with cancer or something but also wanted them to understand that this is serious for me.
  • Ladies- I recently got my IVF calendar and I likely will start stims the week my DH is out of town!! I don't know if I will be able to do the shots myself??! Should I plan on finding someone to do it for me? (Probably my Mom). I have no clue what to expect as I have never done the injections before.

  • @chicandbubbly you'll be objecting in the stomach skin. Maybe the first time will be a bit scary but it's not a big deal and you barely feel it. For the PIO shots although I heard girls do it themselves you may want your husband or mom to do that for you. But the other ones are easy. :-)

@KirstenCas sorry you have to deal with that stress. I agree with @drove2u to just say you may need to miss some meetings or be in late due to doctor's visits or medical procedures. That's what I told my boss without going into details, but assured him that I'm fine and he shouldn't worry. Hope they understand!

@chicandbubbly yay for getting your protocol! It may seem very scary to do the injections yourself, but I promise you they are totally doable. The needle is super tiny and I didn't even feel it go into the skin. You can totally do it! If you're afraid or worry you won't be able to do, I would ask your mom then. Do you have PIO shots as well? I can't comment on how those are as I don't have to do them, but I hear those might be tricky to do on your own. You've got this!

  • @chicandbubbly you got this! I've done all my shots myself, but I am a control freak and don't trust DH to stick me with a needle in my stomach when I can see him. I'd be WAAAY too anxious for that! If you are nervous the first night maybe just have a close friend (or your mom) that knows what you are going through if you have told anyone hang out with you and just help talk you through the process or in case you get a little dizzy. My first night I was anxious but after that it's been easy-peasy. Like @tulips29 said, the needles are small and you can barely feel them. I also can't comment on the PIO as I haven't done those before.

So when do you start?! So excited for you!

  • @mtpbadger I  think DH enjoyed giving me shots a little *too* much sometimes.   @chicandbubbly I can only repeat what others have said,  the subcutaneous  (stomach) shots aren't bad and I could have done them myself, you barely feel them.  Think intramuscular are harder and hurt more but not sure,  since I only know what I read there.   Good luck!  :)

  • Things are finally moving along! Had 10 measurable follies today (over 10mm) with about 5-6 more just behind and estrogen has jumped to 625. Starting ganirelix tonight and increasing the menopur by a vial (225). Will have to do a quick med inventory tonight when I get home to make sure I have enough to get me through the weekend since I won't be back for us/bw until Friday morning and don't want to risk running out. Possibly will have ER sometime next week! I woke up feeling a little crampy and uncomfortable so I know it will only get worse. Thankfully this week is almost over and I can just take it easy this weekend.

  • @mtpbadger Great news! I am so excited that things are progressing cycle buddy.

Good luck to all those who just got their calendars. It is a long and stressful road but all worth it of course!

AFM - This is day 9 of stims and my ovaries are already pretty sore. I had an ultrasound this morning and the doctor said that I had a total of about 18-20 follies! I am so excited. Most of them are between 11-13 with some smaller ones. I started centrotide today. The nurse told me that I could trigger Friday or Saturday. It is still crazy to think that all of this is really happening! Every day I get closer and closer to hopefully becoming a mom. Science is incredible.

@cmm012 My DH is gone as well! I know how you're feeling
    @ultratomato SO exciting! Here's to a relaxing 2ww!! FX!
@LizMB Congrats on starting meds tomorrow!! I know you're very excited!
@PrincessSabert My IVF coordinator told me the reason she prefers the PIO over the vaginal tabs is that the tabs tend to cause some spotting and that worries patients. She said the continued use of the tabs cause some irritation in the vagina.
@chicandbubbly It took me 3 cycles of IUI's with injections until I could finally do them myself. I just had a mental block and couldn't put the needle in. But, once I started doing them myself, I discovered that I can barely feel them when I do it compared to being sometimes painful when someone else gave it. You can do it! Congrats on getting your calendar!

asm-I had my estradiol level checked a couple days ago and today and an u/s today to check on the follies. Things are looking good so far. I have ~15 growing now that range from 7-11mm. Dr says I'm on track for ER May 3rd.
How's everyone been feeling on their meds? I have been feeling utterly
exhausted, headaches and mildly uncomfortable around the egg makers. I'm so excited to hear about everyones progress!

  • @Tusername I remember all those feelings from the meds.  Thanks for the info. on PIO shots.

Good morning, ladies!  It's a new day, happy thoughts!  ;)  Happy Friday eve.  Hope everyone has a good day.  :)

  • @tusername 15 is a great amount! I have around 10 above 10mm but haven't been given an estimated retrieval date yet. I started out fairly slow so may be a few days behind what was anticipated. I am on day 9 of stims today and yesterday started feeling really uncomfortable with some cramping and bloating, etc. Some days I'm just exhausted and other's I'm ok. There have been a few days when I go home, sit on the couch after work and just close my eyes for a bit which is totally not normal for me. Today my ovaries are hurting less than yesterday so I'm hoping I'm just used to it and the follies are still growing!

My DH won 2 tickets to play catch on our city's pro baseball team's field on Sunday (not with the team) and I told him to ask someone else b/c I'm sure I won't be feeling up to it as my follies continue to grow and sitting on the couch seems so much more appealing right now, lol!

  • @Tusername I definitely felt more discomfort the closer I got to my ER. I felt like my ovaries were so swollen that they bounced up and down every time I stood up moved around. I was also very bloated, but it's all normal since the ovaries are so enlarged. You're so close to your ER!!

I'm on day 2 of my estrace/estradiol and day 10 of Lupron and basically I've come to accept that headaches are going to be the norm. It's all for a good cause though!

  • @dragonfaerie - does your RE say if you can take normal meds for the headaches or do they say you should stay away from certain ones already? just curious
  • Went for my first U/S and bloodwork. I got the sense that she didn't like what she saw, she say's i need to start taking dexamethasone - a steriod. It has horrid side effects... one of which is "changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, and waist)." Has anyone taken this? Any ideas why I have to take it. In other news, i get a call later to see if I start my follistim and menopur.

  • @caseyw8784 I am allowed to take Tylenol only.  I have the baby aspirin going right now though, so I just didn't want to overdo it on all the meds. If I get a really bad headache I'll break down and take some, but right now it's just a low grade annoyance.

@KirstenCas The steroid can help suppress inflammation. It was just a regular part of my protocol for a few days during my stims. I did not have any real side effects, though I seem to remember that I got a little dizzy at times. You shouldn't be on it very long, so don't stress too much.

  • @Kellyfish79 woo-hoo! yay for your little embryo! the way my cycle/timeline is ending up, we may be cycle buddies if you end up doing another
  • Wow, so my blood work came back and my progesterone indicated that I had ovulated but they have gotten some false positives from the lab, so I had to leave work and get more blood taken. Ugh

  • @bridgetly and @radmom27I'm in my second stim cycle of back to back ERs. My RE changed my protocol a bit too, and so far so good. Hoping for better results for all of us this round.

@dragonfaerie I'm hesitant to take additional meds for the headaches (Tylenol doesn't help for me), but rubbing peppermint oil on my temples, forehead, scalp, over sinuses, and back of neck helps. It may just be a distraction, but it brings some relief.
  • @Kellyfish79 Congratulations on your normal embryo.  You are definitely one step closer.  I can certainly understand wanting to try for more embryos now rather than later.
