Has anyone else been experiencing a weird feeling in their ribs? My friend said it could be my ribs shrinking back down and my organs resettling. Idk, it just feels weird. Would the PP leggings or wrap help with this?
Yes! I had some rib pain yesterday. Not stabbing, not horrible, but a distinct pain. It has mostly gone away and I attributed it to things just settling back where they should be. I figure if it continues to bother me, I'll call my doctor.
@JulienneNicole I haven't had any rib pain, but my back has been aching. I figure its a combo of when my milk came in and my boobs became the size of planets and poor ab muscles. I wear a belly bandit binder everyday and it makes my back pain almost nonexistent. Im sure a wrap/binder will help with rib pain too, as it helps stabilize the midsection and basically holds everything in.
I am absolutely freezing all the time. We are having a bit of a cold snap here, but I was roasting all winter so I think it's at least partially hormonal. I miss my personal internal space heater!
Had a c-section in Thursday afternoon and got sent home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. I'm on Percocet and Ibuorofen for pain and Zofran to control nausea from pain medication. I can only take the Zofran every 8 hours but the Percocet is every 4 hours.
I haven't been taking the max dose of Percocet but I do absolutely need it. (Tried being a hero and not taking it and omg thought I was dying) but I'm having a hard time controlling my nausea still. My appetite is pretty poor as well. Anyone ever have this issue/have any tips? I'm nursing (well milk still hasn't come but baby seems content with the colostrum output so far) so I know I have to keep my calorie intake up but it's really difficult.
I had a bad time with my appetite after dd was born. Because milk supply was an issue I had to force myself to eat 1500 calories a day, which prior to her arrival was no problem. In the end I ate when people would tell me to which had me gaining weight instead because I just wanted them to shut up. Listen to your body once your milk comes in fully I doubt you will have any issues.
I've got one nipple that is way more painful and I've only been nursing on that side maybe 30-40% of the time because it's like knives! Hope I'm not setting myself up to be lopsided...
Medela makes a cooling gel pad that you get wet and it really helps with the pain. They are expensive but you can rinse and reuse at least three times if not for the whole day or more. A total life saver three years ago when DD was born.
My bladder problems continue... I woke up to my body peeing in bed last night. Can't go when I want to, can't stop when I don't want to. Changing the sheets at 4am was fun.
my lower abs are getting really sore after walks and it's annoying me. Hard to walk at the end of the day. Despite doing the exercises the physical therapist gave me. I am probably pushing it too hard.
Anyone else struggling with the "6 week no exercise allowed" orders? My OB said walking is fine when I'm up for it but I'd really like to get myself back into the grind sooner.
The earth mama bottom balm was my one must have for my "go" bag and helped ease the pain with baby one and now baby 2. Love that it is soothing but not numbing. I sent this to a friend after her vaginal birth with an episiotomy and she called me crying saying that it was a lifesaver!
I've been using their nipple butter. I love the way it smells!
BTW for those who are interested, I am a horribly mean mother and have refused to use the nipple shield the past two days. Other than the occasional ten minute fuss session he has survived without it. I fucking hated that thing and it gave me blisters. I'm glad we have the tools to help women feed their children now that we didn't have in the past, but it was NOT for me...
Clusterfeeding can't possibly be an ALL DAY EVENT, can it? Jax had eaten every hour and a half for twenty minutes each time since like 9:45. I know he's due for a growth spurt right now, but damn!
Is he sucking / swallowing effectively? It may be that he is only getting the early, "thin" part of your milk and not getting to the later, fatty and more filling part of your milk, thus remaining hungry often. My baby only clusters at night and occasionally during the day but I suspect this is what is happening to him, he is not a very efficient nurser yet.

Yes! I gained 55 pounds, Im a week PP and down 25 pounds. I have 30 pounds to lose (hoping some of that is more water weight). Ive been using a belly binder and my stomach is flat but jiggily, ugh! 6 weeks seems like a long time to wait to exercise, but at least I can go for walks. I want to be back at my prepregnancy weight by the time I go back to work in 3 months.

@mrsmtothek I feel you, but relax and let your body heal! You will have the rest of your life to exercise... if you do too much to soon, you could hurt yourself, take even longer to heal, and ultimately push back the time when you're back to your normal routine even more!

Nov siggy challenge: animals eating Thanksgiving food
Please help ! SOS! seriously..... my milk has not come in just yet ( I'm 3 days PP) baby latches well /feeds and by the time I'm done she's sleeping. Problem is that I think she's nursing too long (40min plus each side sometimes) and not satisfied. scared my milk will never come in ;(
my biggest issue is she will not sleep anywhere but in somebody's arms. as sweet as this is it means I get not an hr of sleep and soon as I set her down so I can pee or eat it's like Armageddon! ive tried ... Putting a heating pad on her bassinet pad to warm it first.. Nope not even a little. ive put her in the 200$ 4moms crazy mommaroo or whatever it's called thing I was told is the shit ..thst lasts about 2 min before she hits red face status. ive swaddled as well
shes hoarse she she cried so hard so many times last night because I suck.
is this common and will she grow out of this? if not I'm scared for when DH goes back to work Tuesday that it will be hellish. I have to be able to use the bathroom, sleep a few minwithout my poor kid loosing her voice

This sounds a lot like my first DD, and babywearing saved my sanity with her. If you know someone you can borrow a stretchy wrap or something from, try it out. I went to target and bought a k'tan on the day I thought I was going to go insane, and it was $50 well spent for me.
My milk didn't come in until day 5 the first time. All that nursing she's doing is telling your body it's time to kick the milk factory into gear.
If you have her asleep, can you lay her down after that, or does she just wake up? Can you set her in the mamaroo with it off if she's already asleep? With DD we had to wait a specific amount of time until she was really deep in sleep before we could lay her down. We would also cosleep in the evenings while my husband watched us/played video games.
@jones12, this sounds exactly like my first born. It took five days for my milk to come in. I ended up having to supplement her with those tiny bottles that they send you home from the hospital with because she wasn't peeing. She also refused to be put down. I felt like I was losing my mind. She slept on me, but like you, I just needed sleep. Someone on my first BMB suggested a rock-n-play, which helped. Do you have one? Maybe she would like that more. Hang in there. Hopefully, once your milk comes in she will feel more satisfied and will let you put her down for longer stretches. I don't have much advice other than hang in there....I've been there and know how you're feeling.
Thank u @erind228 and @brenlo42 if she is completely passed out and I put her down she's ok for a few min max. thats after I've already warmed the spot with a heating pad too. she just woke up and cried and cried for 15 min and I have no clue why. I'm talking red face, scratching her face with her nails, kicking all of it. My milk is just barely starting to come in tonight and Only thing I can think of is acid reflux. ??? Couldn't get her to stop and then I started to cry. Lack of sleep doesn't help the emotional state. I got her to nurse again and she calmed down after another 10 min.
so here I am DH passed out sleeping and Ive got a sleeping baby on me I can't put someplace and can't fall asleep myself because it wouldn't be safe . cant sit up in bed due to a ton of internal stitches ( I tore in a weird way internal only and it took the dr 3 tries to stitch it to his satisfaction.) All nighter #3 here we go
pitty party x1000 I know but I'm honestly at a loss.

Don't give up mama.... read some articles on the 4th trimester and it will make u better understand what she's going thru too.... Sometimes too.... birth can be traumatic for babies too and it may help to see a baby chiropractic provider...she could have some alignment issues...
Holy crap I did not expect to lose this much blood after delivery. It's huge clotted chunks of blood (TMI, sorry) and I am constantly so dizzy. I'm trying to keep my iron levels up but it's like I can't keep up. Definitely didn't think it would be like this.
I haven't had blood pressure problems all pregnancy and the first few couple days after baby came my BP readings were fine. Then suddenly just as they were about to discharge me they took another reading and it was really high. I ended up staying another 4 hours before they prescribed a blood pressure med and told me to monitor. Anyone else having this issue? Last night before bed it was pretty high, this morning it was much lower. I'm hoping it was maybe anxiety about actually bringing baby home.
How big are the clots? My doctor told me that if they are the size of a quarter or larger I need to call her. If they are close to that size I would be concerned. I hope you get this figured out. @elasticheart13

This happened to me with DS. BP was fine until after delivery, then it shot up. Never dangerously high but we had to monitor it for a few weeks to make sure it regulated. No fun but we survived. Hang in there!

PP is the worst, IMO. I remember with DS wondering how long I could bleed so heavily. Several nickel to quarter sized clots and it felt like it would gush running down my legs. Obviously monitor because you can't be too safe with that, but it could very well just be regular PP bleeding. Stay hydrated and relax as much as you can.

My doctor said to only be concerned if the clots were the size of my fist

I'm going to start walking soon and I start work back tomorrow... Not sure how much dance I can do but we'll see >.> Now the no sex for three weeks and fours days from now (but who's counting?) that's the pet that's already killing me

Re: milk my impression is that they are fairly inefficient feeders early on... Is she having the recommended number of wet and poopy diapers? If so, then you know she is getting enough, even though you may feel like she isn't. Also, is she latching properly? A bad latch will make it longer before she can get all the milk she needs.
What your describing re: sleeping could very well be me and Luca. We went through exactly the same and he also got hoarse. He is 1 week old today and I have been studying his every move and behavior In hopes to understand what he needs. He also sleeps like a champ in our arms but will wake up crying 2-10 min after laying down despite a swaddle.
What I noticed was that he would always get his hands out of the swaddle and start flailing it around, hitting himself on the face, etc which would wake him up. Last night my mom took him from 10 pm- 3 am and he slept in her arms the whole time!!! When I looked at his position he was laying flat just like he would have if he was in his crib, which made me conclude his issue is not reflux. The only difference was that his whole body was confined within my mom's arms. Then I had an a-ha moment: I remember I had bought a wombie and decided to use it for the first time. In the wombie, his arms are straight along his body, like they are when I hold him in my arms... After nursing, changing diapers and putting him inside the wombie, he slept almost 4h straight and only woke up because I woke him up to nurse....
Maybe be it was a fluke, so I'm repeating the experiment tonight. Right now he is sleeping soundly in his crib after nursing, also in his wombie... It's been 40 min and I have been observing him. Several times he had jerky movements in there and then went immediately back to sleep. If his arms were out, or if he was in a swaddle where he could get his arms out, he would have woken himself up.... So I think this thing is working. Let's see how tonight goes...
update: it's now been 2h of sound sleeping in the wombie... I will have to wake him up to nurse soon. This thing is amazing!
@jonesl12 I had a few sessions last a long time on the first day and was told that comfort nursing will only increase my supply, but not to feel bad about handing her off after 15 on each side to save my nipples. Granted, I'm now having to supplement with formula and hope my milk comes in soon, and that she'll start latching again soon. As PP have mentioned, as long as she's having enough wet and dirty diapers you probably won't need to worry too much about her not being satisfied.

We had to supplement with formula the first couple days as well. Plus a mix of breast time and pumping. It was a bit time consuming. But I'm happy to report that, after a week, the milk is here and she's doing great! She is definitely meeting the recommended diaper quota (and then some....)
@thaisac1 I had DH pick up a woombie earlier today to try out tonight. DD slept well last night but I haven't mastered the blanket swaddle yet and this just looks so much easier
Ugh. Anytime I go to the bathroom or bathe I swear I hear a baby screaming even though he is quiet and content. Anyone else hearing phantom cries?
Omg... every time I shower I swear he is crying! I rush through showers when I use to take extremely long showers. I just can't relax thinking he's crying
I cannot say I am eager to exercise or have sex any time soon:).
Today my my husband is going back for his first full work day. My mom is coming up from 11 to 3 or so. Still scared to take care of 2 kids alone! But LO slept really well last night at least. Probably a fluke, but he just woke briefly at 12 and 5.
I wish I had been offered a nipple shield instead they gave me a pump and bottles. Now he latched on to my breast but then unlatches and latches and unlatches and then gets so frustrated he screams until he's fed. I'm calling a lactation consultant today. I'm so stressed and pumping and feeding him for every two to three hours makes it impossible to sleep.

An update on last night: He slept for 3h and then I woke him up to feed. After that, he slept for 1h then woke up with colic; once he pooped I fed him again and then he slept for 3h again. Woke up with colic again, pooped and fed and slept for another 3h. I am not getting ready to wake him up as its nearly 9 am and we need to start our day.
Considering he is only a week old, I think sleeping in 3h stretches is pretty good. This woombie is officially awesome. He wiggled and moved so many times (including 2mins after I laid him down , which is when he used to wake up); and I am convinced he would have woken himself up if he wasn't in the woombie. Best thing ever.

This happened to me with both my 1st and 2nd. My 1st I had no BP issues until after she was born and it shot up immediately after birth. They gave me a medication to control it (sorry, can't recall the name, it's been 9 years). My 2nd I had really bad pre-eclampsia....they induced, and then my BP shot up to 240/116 after birth. Problem is, they weren't monitoring it because I had given birth and they thought I was fine. They sent me home and that's what it hit once I got home. A trip to the ER and seizure pads and all that fun stuff later I was on bed rest for 3 weeks post-partum. Suckage.
This time around, they will be monitoring my BP after birth like a hawk.

I am officially going to go buy that tomorrow. I've just been swaddling and using a swaddle sack and they work for the most part but now I feel like I need the woombie!
If your swaddling is working for you , you may not need it... Swaddling was not working for us though, that's why the woombie was so helpful...
I haven't had the energy to bump, but the clotting has finally stopped. I had to call the nurses when I had two gigantic chunks fall out of my mesh underwear after breastfeeding for the first time and they told me to let them know every time it happens so they can make sure I'm not losing too much blood. The chunks were the size of a tennis ball but the doctor wasn't alarmed. I feel much better now and not as dizzy. Now pooping after delivery, that one was interesting...
Anyone else struggling with the "6 week no exercise allowed" orders? My OB said walking is fine when I'm up for it but I'd really like to get myself back into the grind sooner.
Ughhhh I know, you're right. Its so hard, I feel so fat and lazy right now. I keep reminding myself I'm eating for the health of my precious LO, but I've legit GAINED 4 pounds 2 weeks postpartum (after weighing myself a few days after delivery). I've always had a hard time ignoring the scale because I worked so hard to lose weight in the past. The gains are just so depressing!
Re: Postpartum Thread
No advice needed. Just wanted to complain.

seriously.....
my milk has not come in just yet ( I'm 3 days PP) baby latches well /feeds and by the time I'm done she's sleeping.
We would also cosleep in the evenings while my husband watched us/played video games.
if she is completely passed out and I put her down she's ok for a few min max.
thats after I've already warmed the spot with a heating pad too.
she just woke up and cried and cried for 15 min and I have no clue why.
Sometimes too.... birth can be traumatic for babies too and it may help to see a baby chiropractic provider...she could have some alignment issues...
Good luck

I had DH pick up a woombie earlier today to try out tonight. DD slept well last night but I haven't mastered the blanket swaddle yet and this just looks so much easier

Today my my husband is going back for his first full work day. My mom is coming up from 11 to 3 or so. Still scared to take care of 2 kids alone! But LO slept really well last night at least. Probably a fluke, but he just woke briefly at 12 and 5.

This time around, they will be monitoring my BP after birth like a hawk.
