@brenlo42 I think you should call your doctor and get that checked out. (And I'm normally wait-and-see.)
I know... I have been trying to call for several days now. Today is going to be the day, I swear, as soon as I have had a chance to shower.
    I hope it's nothing!

  • @jonesl12  Checking up on you… How are you doing, mamma?
  • My vaginal birth was bad in terms of amount of tearing, what I love and has made me more comfortable was wearing  depends instead of pads... Especially the first few days afterwards when the bleeding was so bad!

anyone experiencing over production with milk? I've had the opposite issue with my other three but with this one holy cow I'm certain my boobs are going to pop.  The nurse advised to spend 5 minutes 5x a day self expressing to help.   Just starting today.  Wondering what other moms are doing??
I went through this with both of mine now. The first time I listened to the advice of a nurse and pumped several times a day. This made my oversupply 10x worse, to the point where my milk would shoot across the room with every letdown and choke DD1. So this time I went with the advice on Kellymom (and my gut) and did not pump. I'm two weeks in and my supply has evened out. If you pump before your milk is established with an oversupply your body is just going to keep making more milk. I'm going to wait another two weeks or so before I even think about touching a pump.
  • Anyone end up with post epidural headaches? I'm pretty sure that's what's going on, but instead of getting better, they're getting worse.  I lay down flat every chance I get and upped my water intake.  I just wonder how long I should wait before going to my Dr.
  • I think the hardest part of this recovery is adjusting to life with 2 kids. My 3.5 year old is taking it harder than I thought she would. She is independent enough to be able to do things for herself but emotional immature enough to not really understand how her life has changed. She is such a creature of habit and we're trying to keep her schedule as close to normal as possible, but we all know that newborns laugh at schedules. She wants to help so much and I let her when its appropriate, but she also doesn't understand that sometimes I have to feed him and can't jump on the trampoline with her. Last night she said "I want to do what I want to do". I feel awful that she is feeling neglected. DH is trying to give her extra daddy time, but he's on crutches and pretty gimpy right now. We are a total mess.
  • @K&Elizabeth yes I am right there with you. This is #4 for us and a big surprise. My baby #3 is 14 months and it's been a huge adjustment. She doesn't at all understand that the baby is not a toy and that she can't "share" her toys with him.  Her sharing is throwing toys into the bassinet.  I've not had 2 this close together so it's a challenge.  My 4 year old is taking full advantage of me having my hands full so he's testing a lot more.  Good luck mama.  I'm hoping I'll find my groove with it all but I'm not holding my breath
  • Question for everyone. I didn't have cravings with any of my pregnancies.  However since this baby has been here, tomorrow marks 1 week I have been craving crap food like chips, goldfish crackers, m&m's.  I have no idea what the deal is. Let me preface this by saying that I am a healthy eater and very very rarely eat junk.  Not sure what the deal is and hoping it passes. Not trying to pack on the pounds

Yes. So yes. I want so badly to play with DD1 and give her all this attention, but obviously DD2 needs a lot right now with nursing. My first keeps climbing up in the recliner with me when I'm feeding the baby and wants to snuggle or read or touch the baby and I'm constantly concerned about her hurting the baby because she doesn't understand how fragile she is. I desperately want to make sure she doesn't feel neglected and every time she cries, whether legitimately or playing a game, I almost burst into tears myself, feeling like somehow I've betrayed her. I read something on Scary Mommy today on it, where it said they felt like this baby who, while very much loved and wanted, was raining on their parade of mommy and firstborn. Totally hit home for me.

And me too! Gained 12 pounds during pregnancy and have lost it all but I've been eating crazy crap! And nursing nonstop
  • Weird symptom... I had an intervention free labor and birth. Not even an IV block. However, after I delivered the placenta I had some excess bleeding due to the speed of L&D so they gave me a shot of pitocin in my upper thigh to help my uterus push the clots out. I was putting on lotion yesterday for the first time and I noticed that a patch of skin probably 5 inches or so in diameter near the shot site is numb. It's pretty much just the skin and I can walk fine. Obviously, I'm worried about a clot, but perhaps it's nerve damage or a reaction to the pitocin? During contractions I wanted that leg completely straight and little man came out sideways facing that leg. I was induced with pitocin for DD and don't remember any numbness. Thoughts?

  • Update on my bladder/non-shrinking uterus saga: I went to the doctor today and they catheterized me and got over a liter of urine after I had already voided all I could. As it was draining, I started having contractions and my uterus began going down. Right after draining, it was several inches lower, and I continued to have contractions on my way home. I have since self-cath'd twice and had accompanying contractions... can't pee on my own anymore though which basically sucks, but my hard uterine lump is shrinking back to where it belongs!

  • @brenlo42 That's great to hear. Are the contractions painful? I hope they'll let you take out the catheter soon.
  • @brenlo42 that sounds awful...I'm so sorry it's happening but glad you're finally getting some relief!
  • @brenlo42 Oh my gosh I'm glad you went in! That doesn't sound like fun but what a relief that things will be better now!

This. It's baby and child nappy rash lotion. Very very good!! Sounds a bit grose but put a tiny bit around the ring when on the toilet and it helps constipation, prevents tearing and reduces the swelling. I swear by it mine have almost completely healed 1 week pp
  • Hope the pic works this time. Can't recommend it enough for haemorroids
  • Thanks everyone! I keep staring at my 24oz water bottle in awe that 1.5 times that volume of liquid was hanging out in my bladder at all times for the past three weeks.

@kimey1The contractions are pretty much like the ones I was having for the first few days PP, so somewhat painful, but not unbearable, though driving while having them wasn't fun.

  • @brenlo42 Oh my goodness, that is a lot of pee!  Do they think that once your uterus shrinks you'll be able to pee on your own again?
  • @brenlo42 glad you went in and something is fixing the issue.
  • Ugh nooo. I had completely stopped bleeding last week but now I've started up again. It's like a really light period but still annoying. And my C-section incision has started hurting again. I mentioned it to the nurse at my check up yesterday and she just asked "Is it infected?"

Umm I don't know isn't that YOUR job to check for? They didn't even look at my incision and the pain is persisting so I'll probably have to go back in. Ugh.
  • Sorry I haven't been posting i awhile, I've had a rough recovery. It's 6 days post partum and I'm still not right. The day before I was discharged from the hospital from having the baby, I started getting very  light headed. I tried telling the hospital nurses but they dismissed it and I was discharged and sent home with Grayson (who is doing excellent).

I went home and while feeling dizzy and light headed, I tried eating something drinking some fluids and taking a nap. I woke up and was feeling numb and tingly all over. I was extremely light headed. The room was not spinning. I had a hard time breathing too, and my pulse was racing. I went to the emergency room and they took a chest xray and found fluid in my lungs. I was admitted the same day I was discharged. They took an echocardiogram and a CT scan of my chest to rule out pulmonary embolism and diastolic heart failure (due to my high blood pressure, sleep apnea, surgery, etc.,) I was put on a pulse ox throughout the night and had a heart monitor on for the next three days.

I was given lasix Monday night, but it didn't work that well. I didn't pee a heck of a lot. Tuesday morning, I was awoken by a team of people rushing into my room asking if I was okay and they told my O2 sats were down to 60. I have no idea why. Not long from that my lungs were filling up with fluid and I had a very hard time breathing and I couldn't talk. They gave me lasix again that morning and I started draining out. All the tests came out normal and I was on lasix throughout my hospital stay. I was released just this Wednesday, yesterday.

I came home in the afternoon. I took my first pill of lasix (I was getting IV injection in the hospital), ate and took a nap. I woke up and feel very light headed and struggled to keep conscious. I had a hard time breathing again and I ended up calling 911 because my husband has the babies. The emergency room ran down the same tests again and everything came back normal. I was also given some ativan for anxiety because they said that's what I more than likely have and asked if I had anxiety attacks before. I said I have. So I was given Ativan and was advised to pump and dump for the next day. They talked to my OB and I was later who said they don't see the reason keeping me and I was released and sent home.

So while I'm not feeling as horribly lightheaded as earlier, I still am feeling that way. My legs are swelling up and I'm trying to watch my fluids because I'm afraid of taking the lasix, at the same time I'm afraid of my lungs filling up with liquid because my body is not getting rid of it. I have an appointment this afternoon in 5 hours. This surgery really messed me up this time around and all I can do is just hope things get better soon so I can enjoy my new baby.

  • Anyone using a postpartum girdle? I used the belly bandit with my last 2 pregnancies and am currently using the bellifit with this one.  One word...amazing!
  • @rebelone I can't imagine going through all that. Feel better soon!
  • @rebelone wow, I'm so sorry all that is happening. Hopefully you get some better answers at your appointment today!
  • @rebelone Oh my god. I'm so sorry you're going through all of that. I hope your lungs go back to normal soon!
  • I really hope everything goes back to normal here soon for you @rebelone

Lurking (obviously, because I'm so not postpartum yet).  Go get yourself some Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel ASAP (you can usually find it right around all the other Monistat products at the drug store). It will change your life.
  • Also, I have already developed PPA because of everything. I now have to take Zoloft and I'm already seeing a counselor.

  • Update on my numb thigh- they said its most likely permanent nerve damage from the delivery. It feels like it's constantly under novocaine. Not a major deal, but odd and uncomfortable.
  • Oh no, @K&elizabeth. I'm sorry.

Nope, they think it's nerve damage so I get to wait for my body to repair/compensate and hope it actually does. I keep trying to go to the bathroom before I cath, and I am hopeful that one of these times it will start to work...

I have a part that is between my incision and where my leg/lady parts start that's seems to be forever numb. I feel a burnings sensation sometimes but what I tell someone where it is I can't feel it on the outside. Hopefully I can regain feeling after further recovery. Definitely annoying.

Rebelone, so sorry you are going through this!!!!! If you don't mind me asking, did your echocardiogram show a weak heart? The need for lasix usually means a heart issue (not always though, but that's how we treat heart failure); and you are in the right window for peripartum cardiomyopathy.  Let me know if I can help in any way. hugs!
