Weekly Randoms go here...

Re: Weekly Randoms go here...

  • I only had to at my first appointment.  As a FTM I was so surprised at how little time I actually spend with my OB.  SO far I have spent the most time with the ultrasound techs at the office...OB comes in and is like, "How's it going? Any questions?" done...I don't get it...TV and movies must have warped my mind as to what these kind of appointments entail.

  • @egirl1025 wow!  Yesterday afternoon I spent about 40 minutes with my OB, just talking and asking questions.  We also listened to the heartbeat and she took some measurements.
  • Me too, @egirl1025.  I joke with him that he clears his calendar for 30 minutes when he sees me in the hall.  He smiles and says that he likes how I am always an early appointment because it gives him time to get back on schedule during the day.  :)

  • Yep pee every time even for random short appts. They check protein and sugar and stuff. And there's a sign up now saying that here doing random drug tests and if they find anything in your urine DFCS will meet you at the hospital after baby is born. I got the random check on my second visit.

  • They take a urine sample from me every time I go in.  My appointments are short for the most part.  Nurse takes weight, hands me a cup for a sample and then takes my blood pressure measurements.  After that, the doctor comes in, asks me if I have any concerns, listens to the heartbeat, takes my belly measurement and off I go (doctor usually gives me a heads-up to what our next appointment will look like too if there is anything different coming up...next appointment is the glucose test for example).  I save all my questions for our meetings so I don't bug her staff too much so that adds a little time to our meetings but I'm in and out in maybe 10 minutes max?  One thing that worries me a little is she is SO busy.  I had to remind her to take my measurement last time because she forgot.  I also had to ask around to make sure the glucose thing they make you drink doesn't have gluten in it (I have Celiac).  I assumed it didn't but no one at her office gave me any reassurances before I asked nor did they know if it contained gluten after I asked (and they know I have Celiac).  Things like that make me a little nervous.  That said, I do think you have to be your own best advocate with doctors and I genuinely like my doctor and think she is a good doctor....she is just really, really busy.
  • Oh I forgot she does check for the heartbeat too, just didn't last time because I had just come from my a/s and they had it there...

I completely agree with @mkemommy you have to be your own best advocate and I can see that I have been falling a little short there.  I just have no idea what is or isn't normal and I hate being a bother so unless they say something is off I just assume we are good to go...wow...I sound a bit naive there, but I do some reading online and you are all so helpful.  I will have to make myself a list for my next appointment...make sure I have everything covered and I don't forget in the moment.
  • Don't feel bad @egirl1025 - I only write myself a list of questions we go over each time because I don't want to be a bother calling and asking my questions as they come up in my mind sporadically.  I just have a place in my phone for them and write them down as I think of them, otherwise I would forget too.
  • @parsonsperson Good luck! Glad you are having a better experience than you had anticipated!

  • Waiting to get my blood drawn for the glucose challenge... Wow, drinking the drink ice cold made a huge difference in palatability!! Much better than I remembered.
Oh yes!  MUCH better refrigerated.  Leaps and bounds.

@fishwife799 Congrats! I hope you're super excited, even if you had to leave Team Green! I have a toddler boy and he will be 22 months older than his new brother and I am just tickled thinking about them rolling around playing like puppies together in the near future!
Yes same! My son will have just turned two when his brother gets here!!

I wish all places did this
  • Yep, every single time. Outdoors stores sell this thingy that helps women pee standing up. Maybe that would help?

  • I have been so unconformable in my bras lately and had an "oh duh" moment this week when I realized my band was too small.   I ordered my first bralette thing from amazon and it came today.  Oh my goodness, so comfy.  And I finally have some boobs so I'm not super flat chested.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

I tried to put on my favourite sports bra for the first time in a few weeks yesterday and noooooope, band was WAY too small. Forgot about the expanding rib cage! Time to go bra shopping.

I had to buy new sports bras and found a few at Target on sale.  Mine from previous pregnancies are worn out, and I had to toss them recently.  I tried to squeeze into one from pre-pregnancy, and it did not work at all!

My OB office has the same signs for random drug testing, however if you test positive they get involved immediately.  I'm not sure what the protocol is, since it's not something I have to deal with, but I hope that it involves treatment and counseling for the pregnant mom!

Got it, wasn't sure if there was something major that I had somehow missed in one of the threads that has too many new posts for me to want to deal with opening right now or something!

  • Question - has anyone ever ordered any dresses off of Asos Maternity? I have a charity gala in 2 weeks that was just sprung on me for work & nothing to wear... Asos dresses are very reasonable in the $40 range but wondering if they look cheap/are thin material? Not too worried how well they'll hold up considering I'll probably wear it 1-2 times.

  • @MsBeachNJI can't speak for the maternity line, but i did order a normal dress back in the fall and I felt that it ran big and had to return it. I think their quality is pretty good and the shipping is very fast!

Sorry to quote you twice. Eff you mobile.

I I only have ordered maternity dresses from ASOS and I am obsessed. They ran true to pre preg size (I didn't order up) and look great! They do (or at least did) offer free returns. So I ordered two of each size of what I wanted and returned the one that didn't fit.

I did and it's hit or miss. I think I bought 4 and 2 were awesome good quality and the other 2 were thinner but still cute, just very basic
