Had a great night at the candlelit evening for the farmers museum. Such a nice way to kick off the season. Ds loved the candles and riding in the back of the horse drawn wagon. Afterwards We went out to dinner and I agree with those of you who say they feel full after a few bites. It's annoying, I had to have them pack up half, but now an hour later I am hungry again. Grrr!
Yeh I don't do spiders. I used to not mind them so much, but it turned out that I am allergic to spider bites and they often result in emergency room visits. Needless to say spiders in the house die (lol I consider it a matter of self preservation), however if I am outdoors I try to take a live and let live approach.
Ooooooh that's a loaded question. Your water can break (broke with my first while on the toilet for a 2am bathroom run. Every time i moved my water would gush. I was stuck on the toilet for a good 10 minutes). And then ctx start. Or not break and ctx start. If your water breaks, you're kind of on the clock, most OBs or midwives want you to deliver within 24 hours. You really go by the timing of ctx. 5-1-1 is the rule of thumb to call your doc. Your ctx are 5 minutes apart lasting 1 minute or so for at least an hour. You can go in at 4-1-1 to 3-1-1, but it's really up to your doc on your game plan. For me ctx feel like period cramps on steroids, at least at the beginning of labor. And you will probably have to breathe through them when it's time to go in. It's not like movies make it seem. It actually takes time. So patience is a good thing.
Kay, since @2goofykids broke the ice for the newbs, how do you know it's your water breaking versus just urine? I usually drink a lot of water and tend to have clear urine. Is there a difference in color, consistency, or feeling?
@kynbar5 omg maple I want it allllll @soxfan9968 I'm seriously laughing so hard at your discription of butterflies. @jmathi0149 I have so many dreams about different guys and it bothers me so much. I really don't understand it. I'm either dreaming about other people or dreaming DH is leaving me, hates the baby, dies etc. so fun....not
So we had our Christmas party and it was a blast! Butttttt a transformer blew and we lost power after about 2 hours so that was interesting. It's back on now so I don't have to sweat to death in bed since it's like 75 degrees

Not really. Usually if it's your water breaking you will have continued gushes when you move around or get up. But you can go to the ER or L&D and they can do a fluid analysis to determine if it was urine or amniotic fluid.
I had a friend who's pretty sure her water broke at home, but she was too embarrassed to go get it checked out because she didn't want them to tell her she had just peed herself. So she took a shower, and contractions continued to get stronger and stronger, so she went in and was told that she was in active labor. They couldn't verify if it had been her water breaking, though, because of her shower.
There was a massive, crazy hail storm here today! DH and I went out to pick up a Christmas tree and on the way back I had to waddlerun (my latest pregnancy verb) to the car! The size of marbles all so suddenly!
@mrspepper05 Dry nursing is essentially when the LO still wants the comfort of nursing (but you're not producing much if any milk).
@2goofykids The beginnings of labor are very different for everyone. I had a week's worth of extreme discomfort and crazy thoughts (Oh dear lord! I don't have enough baby socks!!!) that culminated in a weird calm Saturday and finally the labor signs showed up one by one first thing Sunday: small contractions in the early morning that didn't go away, bloody show (it was like a smear of pink with a wipe), and a few hours later my water broke. @soxfan9968 I felt a small pop and a little gush. It continued a little with each step (baby's head is usually low enough at that point to make it sporadic and not a full movie style gush). A few hours later my contractions were pretty intense (bend over and breathe through). I know many people don't experience the things like water breaking or bloody show though.
@2goofykids It is so different for everyone, that's the crappy thing. It'd be much easier if it was all the same lol. With mine, my ctx started about 8pm and were manageable (went to bed around 11, dozed between ctx). I got up to pee around 2am, and when I rolled back into bed, my water broke. It felt and sounded like a balloon popped in my uterus. I went back to the bathroom and the ctx immediately got worse. I had to concentrate and breathe to get through them. I texted my husband at work and we went to the hospital, where I finally had the gushing in the registration room. I was like we'll shit, sorry lol. The guy said you wouldn't believe how many times that has happened. DD was born 6 hrs after my water broke.
@smushi; glad to hear you and lo are oke! Hope everything stays calm.
I had a very productive weekend. Bought a stroller (think this is the word), oke..inlaws gave it as a present, went to buy it with them! (For the ones curious, it's the Joolz day Quadro in denim blue, very happy with it). Bought a wooden floor for the nursery, cleaned out guestroom because it's gonna be the nursery and contractor starts tomorrow installing new window frame/doors/all inside doors in the house. Finally found time to start to do a make over of a small cabinet. I'm in the phase i want to change/remodel/finish every little thing in the house before baby arrives. Had 6 years to do it but DH is going a little bit crazy that i want to do all now before March...;)
@smushi glad that everything turned out well. I couldn't read the thread fast enough to see how things turned out.
I'm loving all these L&D stories! It's nice to hear multiple versions because then I will at least be able to piece together enough of them to know what's happening when I go into labor.
@2goofykids - I'm not being snarky or implying that your question is out of place in the random thread by saying this (because I seriously love reading birth stories and am not at all bothered by your question), but go check out some birth stories on the November/December boards to get a feel for how labor starts. It can be so different for everyone, but there are definitely a few ways to know for sure!
With DD1, I had my membranes stripped and was 5 cm dilated, so my Dr told me to go out for lunch, walk around, and call her if contractions started. Sure enough, they did, so she admitted me since I was already a 5.
With DD2, I'd had BH for weeks, but the morning of her due date, a real contraction woke me up. And then I had another one 8 minutes later, and another one 8 minutes after that. Some people have timeable contractions for days, but mine got closer together and more intense quickly. Plus, again, I had been dilated to 4 at my last appt, so I wasn't messing around and went in as soon as they started getting close/uncomfortable (and by close, I mean 5 minutes apart.)

Is it easy to tell the difference between BH and a real contraction?
Sometimes. Contractions can start off as being minor. If they do, they can be confused. BH aren't normally that painful (so says i, the woman who has only had them a couple times). But they also tend to go away if you switch positions and get something to drink or go bathroom. They are not time able (won't be say, 5 minutes apart for half an hour) if it is say, a tightening feeling, 5 minutes between 1 & 2, 8 minutes between 2 & 3, and 9 minutes between 3&4 then they are BH.
The real deal contractions can start off feeling like Braxton hicks, but increase in intensity. I know they're real when I have to hold on to the wall or get on all 4s and breathe/rock through them. A big exercise ball is great for sitting on and rocking through these contractions at home. I don't head into L&D until I've had the real strong contractions for at least an hour.
@2goofykids you will never know everything about pregnancy/child rearing. There will be days when you feel just like you do now, like you are out of your depth and so lost that you don't know which way is up. Then there will be days when you feel like you know all about what is happening and like you could do it in your sleep. This unprepared feeling is natural, it means you will be a good mom, not a perfect one, but a good one, because at least you care enough to worry
I would say BH are annoying/uncomfortable, but real contractions hurt. And while I had timeable BH for a while, they always went away when I laid down. Whereas contractions just get closer and more painful.
Married 7.29.05 :: DD1 5.11.10 :: DD2 1.23.13 :: Baby Boy due 3.13.16!
Thanks @red3ye! I hate feeling so unprepared but I'm sure I'll catch up a little bit d: hopefully my new doctor will volunteer a little more information than my last one!
Going to the optometrist and my new OB tomorrow, so hopefully we get some good news about baby's size and everything... I woke up this morning looking like my stomach had grown a few inches, and the idea of having to do a c-section is a concern of mine. He's a big one, but how big is too big? d:
Some will say that a baby won't ever be to big. But I know two women whose hips were to narrow for their baby (that being said, babies were only average size so women were just small framed). As long as your built right, his size won't really affect wether you get a csection or not.
I had a BH the other night and it wasn't painful so if you can tell the difference but one hurting and the other not hurting I think I'll be okay. I have an appointment next week so I think I'll start asking these questions too. One of my friends has me completely stressed out. Last night she was saying "wow baby could literally come at any time." I was saying we weren't in a big hurry to finish the nursery and we had time and she was just like "yeah you might but you don't know I mean you could have her like tomorrow". Thanks. So. Much. For. Putting. That. In. My. Head.
I also forgot my Diclegis last night so I've been throwing up all day. 27 weeks tomorrow, thanks kid
My bh can get pretty painful, but like I said before real ctx start like period cramps on steroids whereas bh feel like my uterus being squeezed. When I smelled my water to see of it was that or pee, it smelled like amonia (and with the gushing it was definitely my water). Some say it smells sweet. With DS2 I wore a pad to the hospital just in case it broke on the way and it started leaking, so glad I had the pad.

Totally had one of those "what made you cry" moments today in church. Ds1 went up on stage with the rest of the kids and had candles and sang christmas carols. My mom asked if I was ok because I was bawling, I was just like, "yeah, I'm pregnant and that was beautiful. " so proud of him!

Also does everyone's water break? I read that IF your water breaks you should go in to avoid the risk of infection. So does that mean that it may not break until you're in the hospital already or what
In other news I got a warning for a tame comment on that 2nd tri ultrasound thread. Some people are so trigger happy with that report button. So much eye rolling.

Most women's does not break as the first sign. If it does you have 24 hours to deliver, so yes you should go in if your water breaks - a few hours within it breaking.

Okay for any STMs here, because your advice is abundant and welcome, has anyone else had their parents fly in to see the baby after its born? Theyd like to be there like when he's born, but what if they fly in and he decides he's not ready to come out? What am I supposed to do with that? d: they can't really afford a do-over.

FTM but my parents are flying over. They're coming a few days before my DD and staying 3 weeks. I don't know how long your parents are coming for but I imagine it'd be very difficult to time it correctly so that they're there for the birth. You could go a week or so over, for example. If they are constricted with time why not have them come about a week after your DD so that baby will hopefully be here and if not should be arriving shortly. Also, I don't know how much it would cost but they could look into getting some type of insurance so that closer to the date they might be able to change their flight.
@2goofykids if your parents want to see the new baby but aren't really dead set on being there RIGHT at the moment of birth, I'd say that having them schedule their trip for about a week after your due date is the best bet. That way you've most likely already had the baby, or will just be having it when they arrive. My parents came for a long time with the birth of my first, because I wanted my mom to be there for the labor. So they arrived almost a week before my due date and then we waited... and waited... and waited. They were here for 2 weeks before I went into labor.
With my second we assumed I would probably not be early or "on time," so they came just a day or two before my due date and we still waited over a week before the action happened. Luckily we had a lot of little projects to do around the house, so it worked out. Also they're retired, so they have an unlimited amount of time to just hang out and wait. But if your parents have a time limit, I'd say scheduling the trip for a week after due date is safe, as long as they don't have their hearts set on meeting the baby right away after birth.
One question though, you seem to be somewhat preoccupied with this idea that your baby is going to be huge and cause you to need a c-section. Is there a reason for that? You've brought it up a number of times already.

@2goofykids I have 3 IRL friends that are pregnant and due Feb/March. All of them and myself included were told that our babies are measuring big! Try not to stress out about it because there's no way of knowing yet. Maybe they just had early growth spirts!
One more week of work before winter break... Deep breaths! If I get one more hysterical parent asking me for one more study guide or to reschedule their kid, I may give up and drown myself in a tub of ice cream!! Who am I kidding? I'm probably going to do that either way!

I've been done with today since about 2. Between MS, DH finding his Christmas present, and noticing just how many stretch marks I have after I leaked through my shirt and had to change...I've been a weepy pathetic mess. I hate it. This is my last week at work ever with this family and mom was texting me trying to plan to do a little Christmas with me and it hit me right in the feels. I'm just not handling anything well today.
Also does everyone's water break? I read that IF your water breaks you should go in to avoid the risk of infection. So does that mean that it may not break until you're in the hospital already or what
I've always been in active labor and had to have my doctor break my water. Every single time. Everyone I know that has more than one child has had theirs break on its own at least once so they're always surprised that mine hasn't. I will say that even with this being my last I still don't want it to because honestly, I'd probably freak the heck out lol.

Thanks y'all. My family is coming over tomorrow for our secret Santa so I'm trying to be chipper. Also, @soxfan9968 I'd have to pass on the ice cream since this baby came with a nice case of lactose intolerance!
I think DH has started nesting, it's adorable. Last night he vacuumed and organized our entryway closet. Today he painted the baby's room (I did the trim, he's not too skilled with a brush), is wiring in tamper proof outlets, and hung a new light fixture in the nursery. All without me asking. I guess the unseasonably warm, muddy weather is paying off for me, since he can't do much work around the farm without everything turning into a muddy mess. I kinda love the guy
