  • I still drink one large cup of regular coffee at least 4-5 days a week. I can't work an evening shift and be on my game right now without one.

  • @lalala2004 I think she said it was route 44 - but I just had a bottle of Barq's yesterday and the label said caffeine free. Do they make it both ways? I have *never* heard of caffeinated root beer.

I thought A&W and Barq's had caffeine but Mug root beer didn't?

ETA I just looked it up. A&W and Mug are caffeine-free. Barq's has caffeine but the sugar free version does not.
Also saw that Barq's makes a French vanilla version. What is that and where can I get it?!
Barq's is the only one I know of that has caffeine. When she said rt 44 I assumed she meant a size, since that's a size at Sonic, and I can't remember what kind of root beer they have.

Oh, and in some locations I think they make a caffeine free version for some areas like Utah.

  • I eat raw egg yolks and rare meat. I don't really ever drink but last time I was pregnant I drank almost every night for irritable uterus (just a few ounces of red wine). I pick up my kids and hope to have sushi this weekend when I head out of town. I avoid a lot of things other people might not though so we're all different! Love reading everyone's posts!

  • why do some people say they're cheating by eating tuna sandwiches? the advised limit of 12 oz of fish per week is like 8 sandwiches...
  • BACON :-\" and cooked sushi from a trusted restaurant.
  • @bgrace44 Same here. I stayed on my meds my entire first pregnancy (and while nursing) and am staying on them this time too.

My biggest cheat right now is a glass of sweet tea at lunch every day. It helps settle my stomach.
  • I can't give up runny eggs. I don't eat them every day and I try to have them a little more congealed than normal.

also, you can definitely have tuna. I have a tuna melt at least once a week. oh and hot dogs and bacon. mmmmm meat

    I don't mind being a B. Especialy if I can be this B

    I love you. xD
    Too soon? Haha
I've been trying not to cheat but my fiancé had priorities that are skewed as hell right now, so the litter box will probably be something i end up having to do all the time, and runny eggs and sushi with smoked salmon are somewhere in my future. It's also hard because eating healthy isn't working with the nausea Dx
  • Eating runny eggs which I just found out from this thread that you're not supposed to? Lunch meat every now and then along with a Home Depot hot dog, but probably not anymore since my fiancé gets mad lol!! Anyone else tried their hot dogs? They are AMAZING
  • I guess the biggest "don't" I'm still doing is sailing.  DH, our crew, and I race our sailboat in the local regatta circuit.  My job on the boat involves grinding winches and trimming sails under heavy loads, so I may have to have help later on in the season.  I'm just being careful to stay hydrated in the Florida heat and resting between legs of the races.  I know this will probably be our last racing season for a while, so I'm going to keep doing it until I physically can't anymore!
  • There is a bottle of hard cider in the fridge that is just mocking me. I begged MH to drink it or take it away somewhere, but he doesn't like cider. And they just opened a new tasting room within walking distance of my house and my sister will send me texts saying to meet her there and then "Whooops. I forgot. You're knocked up! Haha!"  X(

    Cook with it!
  • I always drink strictly water for the first 12 weeks with my last three. That was the plan again with this one but due to all day sickness I am drinking Sprite regularly and even throw a small Coke from so ice once in a while. My other three made it out fine so I'm good to go
  • @kbrands7 that is a great idea!

On that note, I went out to eat with MH and there was a dish with a Merlot wine sauce and he goes "Well, you certainly can't have that!" So I ordered it, just to be contrary. Hey, cooked wine is fine by me.

  • Oh man. Let's see all the "terrible" things I've been doing. Quit smoking and drinking alcohol, but I totally eat cold cuts, hotdogs, runny eggs, fish, and I still drink coffee (a little less than before) and soda once in a while (was never a soda person to begin with). I do drink tons of water though. I'm simply not going to obsess over what I can and cannot eat. It's not like I'm eating food out of a dumpster.

  • Total stomach sleeper here.  Also, DQ hot dogs and vanilla softserve are my go to dinner right now.

Runny eggs were my weakness with my daughter and are again this pregnancy! B-) Also, not giving up my morning coffee! Just keeping it to one cup!

If there is a rule which makes a lot of sense, I abide by it. I'm not breaking any 'rules' which I don't think are garbage/over inflated concerns anyways. I have a lot of will power but I am also pretty intolerant of following rules which don't make sense.

I eat sushi from my favorite sushi restaurant. I've been eating there for years and years without getting sick, nor have any of my coworkers ever gotten sick. I've actually never gotten sick from any sushi, from any restaurant ever and I live in a town more populated with sushi restaurants than Starbucks. I think the benefits from the Omega 3s greatly outweigh the minimal risks from eating it.

I also still do Crossfit twice a week. Not lifting anything over 25 lbs is outdated (I mean look at this thread - every second time mom is going to have a child they need to pick up. It's not even a reasonable limitation to put on women) and no doctor I've spoken to still recommends it. My original doctor and current midwife are both aware I still lift and are very supportive. I am very very careful about what I do and my intensity level is so low at this point, I barely enjoy it. I also do nothing where there is a reasonable risk of falling (rope climbs and box jumps for example).

I quit drinking coffee a year ago and don't often consume caffeine. However, if constipation gets intolerable, I drink a cup of black tea and that usually moves things along. It's not every day and it's only one cup. I figure relieving the sick, disgusting feeling from severe constipation is worth the minor dose of caffeine. My doctor has also told me there's nothing wrong with that, as have most of the studies I've read.

I'm sure there are other things I'm being 'naughty' about but I've forgotten them at the moment :-)

  • I am currently not doing anything differently...by cutting anything out. I pick up my toddler, drink 1 cup of coffee a day (usual), and if I can eat it I do....my issue is not wanting to eat b/c I have been so sick.
  • I'm having sushi today. Doctor said it was ok. Granted, I'll probably get one raw roll and one cooked. But gosh darn it, I'm doing it and going to enjoy it. And I'm getting my hair done in 2 weeks.
  • I'm having a super hard time eating meat lately.. except for cold cut assorted subs. Man those are delish. I still drink one coffee a day, and occasionally have a pepsi.

Also, I split wood at camp last week. DH tried to give me crap for that one, but I told him my mother and my grandmother did it while pregnant too. It's practically a tradition.

Eating my steak medium rare image
  • I'm still eating sandwiches and I had some Brie a couple of weeks ago when I was entertaining.
  • Here are the things that have made me nervous but I think are totally fine that I've done so far:

2 glasses of wine (before I got my BFP)
    1 chai tea
    1 kind of hot bath
    Warm yoga

And as for the lifting - I just read: "The current recommendation is that the maximum load a pregnant woman should lift in late pregnancy should be reduced by 20 to 25 percent from that which she was able to lift in her pre-pregnancy state." And the concern seems to be more about a shifted center-of-gravity/balance than actual capability.
  • I switched to the half caff k-cups and have one cup a day which has been a god send! I love my morning ritual and wouldn't give it up! I also had a few little sips at a wine tasting for work, I honestly do not feel bad about it as it was such a small amount! I heard the French drink wine all through their pregnancy so I figured that would be fine!
  • At first I was paranoid. But I am getting more relaxed now. Soft cheese and slightly runny eggs. Yup. Tastes great!! I still drink coffee as I would be the grumpiest person on earth without it. But only 2 per day. Sushi: vegetarian sushi are fine I think:-)

Hmm I've never heard of bacon being a no no. Why can't we have bacon?

I ate a hot dog last night. Which I forgot is against the rules. Also I drink some coffee every morning, but not a lot...I figure it can't be too bad!

  • drinking a cup of coffee daily and sometimes even two! I also had a Chicago dog the other day (couldn't resist) and will occasionally get feta or blue cheese on a salad or at a Greek restaurant. The only danger with any of those foods is the risk of listeria and that's very rare. The coffee however is just a bad addiction. I tried and failed at breaking it but at 11 weeks baby is healthy this far! *knock on wood*
  • I've been craving sushi like no other but avoiding it D:

I should but oh I shouldn't..... The struggle!!
  • Well. I might get yelled at for this one, but here goes. I'm still horseback riding, and will continue to do so until at least 12 weeks. I'm not currently jumping, but otherwise I'm riding unrestricted.
No riding at all during pregnancy seems to be an American thing. My British friends were all told to ride unrestricted until their balance was starting to go. Riding has no risk to pregnancy at all, but falling off after week 12 is risky. So, I'm doing it and that's it.
  • I had Brie on s burger last night. it was amazing.

Nitrates and nitrites used in processed meats aren't good for baby and isn't recommended.

But caffeine is ok in small quantities but has no benefits to the baby so I stopped drinking as often :(

@evamarta I had some sushi a few weeks back, just completely cooked and asked if they would prepare it away from the raw stuff to avoid cross contamination. It was delicious!

I'm staying on my antidepressants (my OB approved it). I have bipolar disorder and am a recovering alcoholic (sober 2 and a half years). When we first considered TTC, my doctor started trying to wean me off and it was a disaster. I ended up having to increase my dosage.

Congrats on being sober 2.5 years:)

This. Can we be friends?? Lol
  • I run an in home daycare so lifting toddlers is part of life. Caffeine too is my friend. I have cut back but not as much as I could. Plus I love HOT showers.
  • Working with toddlers for a living means that I am constantly picking up 20+ pounds. And I can't give that up, much like many of you!

I was told, by head nurse during my OB interview, you can have the showers as hot as you can stand it. You just can't take long hot baths or go into jacuzzis because it heats your body temp and increases baby's body temp

Ah okay. I forgot about nitrates. I had some bacon the other day and now I want all the bacon, but we never buy it so no temptation there haha. I don't drink caffeine soda ever...I cut it out when I was nursing and then never picked it up again. I figure a little bit of coffee in the morning is definitely under 200 mg and gives me a boost to chase DD around!
