I have had the occasional cup of coffee though im trying to cut back and replace with water. My big one right now is the smoking. I significantly cut back earlier this week but then I had a bad couple of days. Trying so hard to completely quit!!!!!! Dont want to risk this baby
I'm not cheating in any specific way but I'm definitely not eating as healthy as I'd like to be. It's just so hard to stomach foods that aren't carbs...
This is my life! It doesn't help either that I was on a very low-carb diet right before getting pregnant for about a month, so of course I've gained all of that weight back since I pretty much can only stomach carbs right now!
I had slightly dippy eggs one morning, only because I thought the yolk was cooked through and I was in much too much of a hurry to throw them back in the pan when I realized they weren't.
They were DELICIOUS.
Runny yolks are chuck full of essential vitamins! Don't stop eating them!
Says the girl that is concerned about flu shots...
I was gonna say the same thing about the girl who is concerned about the flu and yet cheating with everything under the sun.... But I didn't want to be a B
I don't mind being a B. Especialy if I can be this B

Oh no. Not that one. Didn't know it was so confusing for some ppl
I asked my OB about lifting about 20 times during my last pregnancy because I had to lift 10 gallon coolers of water for work. My coworkers and students kept telling me not to, so I kept asking. He was fine with it. As someone else said, just use proper lifting techniques and you should be fine.
@wsgjmw1 oh man, I've definitely had a couple of passion iced teas, I thought I was being good not choosing caffeine! I've never heard of this rule before...
Oh I'm also eating unpasteurized miso! Anyone heard about if it's okay to drink Komboucha? I know we're "supposed" to stay away from soda because aspertaime (I always feel like we might as well be saying "because reasons") but I hadn't heard about Komboucha
I'm still lifting my toddler and deadlifting, and I don't plan to stop either activity. I'll just adjust the weight if/when needed, but I had this convo with my trainer today and we agreed on some weight limits based on what I can do vs. should do. I plan to tell my doctor also just in case her opinion has changed. I actually didn't realize the recommendation was 25lbs.
Please tell me more about this! I use Neutrogena face wash, toner, and moisturizer. I never knew this was something we weren't supposed to do! Fill me in!
Still using my ProActiv face wash and toner once daily, and the treatment lotion only a few times a week. I used it my entire pregnancy last time because my doctor said anything over the counter with benzoyl peroxide around a 2.5-5% concentration is safe to use.....so I plan to keep using it this time around as well. I've tried a variety of products over the years, including tea tree oil which made things 10X worse, but this is the only thing that works for me, and prevents the painfully large cystic acne on my face.
Please tell me more about this! I've never heard about not using face wash/toner. What exactly are we supposed to steer clear from?
IMO, so much of it is hogwash. Pregnant women do not live by so many restrictions in other countries and cultures, nor do they get any special consideration or treatment, and they go on to have successful pregnancies all the time. At least half of my generation was born to women who smoked and drank, with no adverse repercussions.
I will eat sushi from quality restaurants. After the 1st tri, I will have the occasional glass of wine, and a well done steak is a burnt one, IMO, so no thank you to that either. Pretty much all cheeses in the states are pasteurized, so I'm gonna eat that, too, and not feel guilty about it.

I know I thought it was a good choice too until my co worker told me otherwise ... I did some research and it's not conclusive ... I think every woman has to do what is best for them
Wow some of these are ridiculous. I'm still lifting way over 25 pounds and I see no harm in it. If you know how to lift especially in the gym with proper form and you were doing it before it shouldn't be a problem. I ate a turkey sandwich was delicious! I don't care for sushi that much and don't have a cat! I wish healthier food tasted better but it's a struggle! I have 3 year old and carry him as well. I'm going to be one of those bad ace moms. Pregnancy is not a disability!
I guess the "worst" is that I still wash my face with my acne wash once a day. I did it with my last preg too because these pregnancy hormones wreak havoc on my face. I might try the Belli face wash and see how that does so I can feel better about what I'm using
I had a deli sandwich last week and it was awesome and a tuna sandwich the week before. I was drinking coffee up until this week, now I can't stand the smell of it.
I'm still lifting my 5 and 3 year old and am at the gym lifting much more than 25 lbs 3 times a week. It's all good in moderation.
I'm not giving up cold cuts, just eating them in moderation. A Cajun chicken sandwich for lunch a couple times a week just sounds too good. I guess you could also say I'm picking up and carrying too much. I have a 30+ pound toddler, not much choice.
I still lift weights, which was okay'd by my doc. As far as eating and drinking stuff, I'm pretty by the book. I miss caffeine. I'll probably drink one cup of coffee once I get to the second tri.
BTW, many soft cheeses that you get at the store are pasteurized, so they're fine... just check your label.

@mmiller725 My dermatologist and my OB recommended that I steer clear of anything with salicylic acid in it, but that benzoyl peroxide was fine to use as long as it's a lower concentration and you're not smearing it all over (body lotion acne preventative). The face washes and toners are more than fine to use, it is the treatment lotion of the ProActiv that I tend to use a little less often when pregnant just for my own piece of mind. Because i've been using it for years my face is almost blemish free, but if I stopped completely it would go insane with cysts, sooooo....I just cut back a little with treatment lotions specifically, but I don't stop completely. I don't find anything wrong with this, but it is an unpopular opinion with some for sure.
I finished off the rest of the sausage that was in the fridge even though I am sure it contained tons of nitrates and I recently had a route 44 rootbeer without thinking about the Caffeine until about a 4th of the way in but finished it anyways. I'm sure I also shouldn't walk around the farm barefoot anymore especially not in the chicken coop.

Root beer is a caffeine free soda. So you're fine
For me, I've been eating cold cuts but the doc today told me it was only prepackaged meats to worry about for deli meat. I also eat sushi, but in moderation and usually cooked if I can manage. I do mix my coffee with decaf now so I can still drink just as much and feel like I had my fix but I'm only taking in half the caffeine. I still lift. Right now I'm waitressing, and I lift up to 40 lbs at work. But I do low weight / high rep workouts I'm just careful about my technique. I also still use my acne cleanser because it only has 2% salicylic acid and my dr cleared it for use. I really just want hot fudge all of the time now, though! I avoid eating it mostly, but I desperately want it!
I had the most delicious deli turkey wrap for lunch (for some reason the only thing I could stomach). MIL and SIL are onto me about the caffeine though. I'm still lifting and working out (less intensely than I was) although my doctor told me I can only do swimming and brief walking. I feel like if I don't workout I will lose my mind!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who still (in my best Austrian accent) lifts things up and put them down! I got back into lifting a few weeks ago after giving it up during my last pregnancy, and my exercise routine is what makes me feel SO GOOD. Otherwise I'm just tired and feel sick all day. Deadlifted 130# for several reps the other day and it was EASY. Hoping to break 200# by Christmas.
I'm staying on my antidepressants (my OB approved it). I have bipolar disorder and am a recovering alcoholic (sober 2 and a half years). When we first considered TTC, my doctor started trying to wean me off and it was a disaster. I ended up having to increase my dosage.

Ha. And I'm the opposite. I'm NOT taking my anti seizure meds bc DD got a birth defect. My neurologist is an idiot tho. I think he's younger than me too. I'm like hey doogie, I've been dealing with this longer than you've been alive. I know what I'm talking about.
I'm not giving up my Jersey Mike's Wednesday's. I was really freaked out about lunch meat the first time around but this time I'm going to be way more laid back. I did switch to decaf coffee but I might have to switch back. I'm just so tired.
You're not supposed to eat deli meat? I guess that's what I'm doing wrong then! My typical lunch includes turkey (or chicken breast) and cheese roll-ups.
I'm still drinking coffee, but trying to go from 12 down to 8 oz. I don't really do other sources of caffeine (soda, tea, chocolate, etc) so my doc said that should be fine.
Oh, and I had runny eggs a couple days last week for breakfast before I realized I shouldn't. Why I didn't think undercooked eggs qualified as an undercooked meat, I don't know. It's odd though because I don't normally make fried eggs to begin with - I usually do scrambled! But for some reason fried eggs last week just sounded so good....
I have a hair appointment next week that I REALLY don't want to cancel. It's at an Aveda salon so that should count for something, right? And it's just partial highlights, sooo...
I haven't really changed anything, except for cutting out alcohol. I still get my morning Starbucks and eat lunch meat. During my first pregnancy, I never bought into all the "don'ts" - it seemed silly to cut out lunch meat and sushi when other countries don't have all these restrictions. As long as you're not buying these foods from some sketchy place, it shouldn't be a big deal. And you risk listeria with everything these days, so if you wanted to completely control your risk, you'd have to pretty much stop eating everything.
I had a glass of wine when I thought I was pregnant but hadn't confirmed with a test yet. Sweets will always be my cheat. Last night I had a root beer float and it was AMAZING!
I cut back to one cup of half-caff coffee in the morning; I cut out deli meat, unpasteurized cheese, sushi, alcohol and runny eggs. My DH and step-children are handling the litter box. That being said, I fully intend to color my hair throughout this pregnancy.
I refuse to feel fat and frumpy...AND have gray hair for 9 months. Forget it.

I switched from med-rare to med on my steaks/burgers, but I refuse to go well-done. I wouldn't hesitate to have a small sip of my DH adult beverage (if it were a day that I could stomach the smell) and I eat my eggs runny. I have double-cream Brie in the fridge calling my name, so I'm thinking I'll break down in the 2nd trimester and eat it. I cut caffeine out while ttc, so I do drink decaf coffee, but I eat dark chocolate at night.

I got my hair highlighted with DD. I read highlights are better than all-over color because the color for the highlights doesn't really get on your scalp as much.
@lalala2004 I think she said it was route 44 - but I just had a bottle of Barq's yesterday and the label said caffeine free. Do they make it both ways? I have *never* heard of caffeinated root beer.
I don't really know where to share this without creating a new thread, but I thought it seemed appropriate for all my coffee drinkers.
Bed Bath and Beyond sells hazelnut half-caff k-cups. I picked some up yesterday, and it's delicious. Only downside is it has artificial flavors in it, so I'll probably use it as an occasional treat. But it's sooooooo good.

I thought A&W and Barq's had caffeine but Mug root beer didn't?
ETA I just looked it up. A&W and Mug are caffeine-free. Barq's has caffeine but the sugar free version does not. Also saw that Barq's makes a French vanilla version. What is that and where can I get it?!
