My A#1 most annoying Facebook mommy friend just posted a question about homeschooling (she has a 2 year old and 3 month old). She says the two year old wants to learn French. This person and her husband do not speak French. I rolled my eyes hard bc that seems really far fetched.
But since I don't have a two year old yet, I'm curious - is that something a two year can honestly articulate? I know babies in bilingual households can pick up 2+ languages, but I'm trying to picture a toddler asking his mom for Rosetta Stone so he can learn French and it seems made up.

Yes it is a proven fact that young children have an easier time learning multiple languages early on - just look at baby signing. But really??? The toddler really wants to learn French??? Ummmmmm yeah. More like the mom really wants her toddler to be the next baby genius by learning French.

Yeah I'm thinking it's the power of suggestion on this one. I would imagine at that age, all questions his mom is asking him are met with a head nod or shake, rather than "But why? Isn't that pretentious? I don't need to know French for Little Gym."

So this is the first BMB (or any board for that matter) that I have consistently participated in so pardon me if this is a silly questions...but do people from other boards come over to various BMBs to lurk/comment/participate? I know this is not some exclusive club, but if that is the case I find it odd.

Yyyyyyyup. And it drives me insane when they do it to add ultra snark and bitchiness - drive by snark and then you don't even recognize them.

So a bit back, some of you (@skruhmin, were you one) were complaining about the green olive being gross for week 9, and I was all "I like olives!" Well damn, I didn't realize the photo on the app is the most disgusting looking pimento-stuffed green olive ever. It seriously makes me want to barf every time I open the app. Sorry I didn't get it before. I was looking at a juicy raspberry that week LOL

Yup. It's gross looking. Now I get to look at a shriveled prune for week 10, so it doesn't get much better after the olive. Illustrations of the foods rather than actual photos would be much cuter!

The shower boards and baby name boards like to troll bmbs and then linky threads they find shocking or face fanning worthy on threads over there. It takes a certain level of either boredom or personal passion...
Just to give you an idea of how open and not the secluded little paradise the bmbs really are, on my last bmb someone brought up tipping at restaurants as a UO. It apparently summoned the Internet demon from hades who spends her days googling for random forums all across the Internet to share her horrible stories and long terrible diatribes on tipping. She herself was infamously known all over the Internet for it.
And now I'm getting twitchy just hoping she doesn't stumble upon this one lol. Buzzkillian
I'm all for folks dropping in to share etiquette knowledge whether they "belong" to a certain bmb or not. Mostly because in the age of "I saw it on Pinterest so it must be a good idea," speshul sneauxflakes don't give two shits about etiquette.

If I think people are sharing wisdom for "good" (for lack of a better word), then sure I'm all for it. But it seems like it's more for their own personal entertainment/filling their boredom rather than truly educating others.
Usually when you try to shed light on a subject, your tone would be one of understanding and "I see where you're coming from, but..." Instead of you're wrong, I'm right and that's that (even if that IS the case which of course it usually is).
I don't know. I'm not even that nice of a person IRL lol but I know that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. But we are all adults so I also concede that there is no need to coddle these women. I try to think of some of these ladies like I had to think of my grandma. We found ourselves saying a lot of "That's just the way she was raised", unfortunately. Not an excuse but you can't fix stupid.
I remember a time when registries for baby showers were considered tacky. Way of the buffalo...
For me personally, showers make me uncomfortable and I kind of wish registries didn't exist, but it seems that the vast majority of people these days are really into both. I disappointed both my mom and my MOH when I turned down all their bridal shower ideas over and over, but showers just skeeve me out. That's definitely a UO of mine. But I know what you mean as far as the general trend of baby registries now being acceptable now.

Yes!!!! OMG seriously, bridal showers, baby showers, hours of awkward moments confined to one room. I protested against opening presents at my bridal shower but I was forced to. The whole thing is just so damn uncomfortable.
I find showers a bit awkward as well but the way I look at it, your guests (usually) want to see what cute things you're getting and to see your reaction when you open the gift they gave you. At least that's how I feel when I go to other people's showers.
I'm so happy I'm not the only one with feeling super awkward at showers. At my wedding shower my MIL brought a bunch of gifts from her friends who I didn't know and invited people I didn't know. Suddenly when I was opening presents there were names I didn't recognize and I felt so awful. I think the only way I got though it was with gin and tonic, but that was not an option at my baby shower. I would rather spend the money and buy everything myself then open presents in front of people.

Oh for sure! Totally agreed. I just always feel an overwhelming sense of anxiety when I'M the one opening the presents and thanking everyone lol. I hate being put in the center of attention.

You were very justified in feeling uncomfortable in this scenario bc I'm assuming these people your MIL invited that you didn't know, were not actually invited to the wedding? That's a major faux pas on your MIL's part! It's impolite to ask people to give a bride gifts when they aren't invited to the actual main event - the wedding. (This really only applies to weddings, because you don't invite people to births if they attend your baby shower.) At least though it didn't reflecting poorly on you as the bride since you had no idea. Thank God for alcohol.

Oh I was really not happy. It was a surprise shower so I didn't even know who was going to be there till I showed up. Yea my MIL can be oblivious.
I didn't really get on yesterday and just came back and read the gender/baby shower post...wow that escalated pretty quickly.
Yea that was my bad, I normally don't get like and I actually wasn't upset at all. I just didn't like the tone and started off defending someone, then my devil's advocate side took over. Sorry!

I don't blame you at all. I totally wanted to post this.
hahaha. FWIW I am going to continue to say the gender and sex of my DS is male. If he at sometime in the future tells me that he identifies as female that's fine for now his gender is male.
I don't get why people are up in arms about non-M16 people commenting on threads.. There have been people that pop onto our board to give BAD etiquette advice that also do not "go here" and nobody seems to care about that.
I read the baby name threads even though we aren't actively looking for names, and the baby shower thread even though I'll likely decline all offers. People ask for input ->> they get it. From all over. I just think it's silly to think that we're confined to where we "belong" Just look at the number of views vs replies on any given thread, and you will see that we are definitely not alone on March '16.

I just read the gender reveal thread. Good entertainment! The gender sex argument is a little over the top I think. Unless you plan to raise your kids gender neutral (which you are entitled to) to a degree their sex will always define their gender until they are old enough to make desicions on their own. To each their own.
I could be wrong, but I see that as a breach of internet etiquette (if such a think exists). I see the general topic boards like baby names or baby shower as open to anyone who is interested in that topic.
The birth month boards are different, I see them more as a home base for advice and support composed of people who are going through the same process at the same time, it makes it easier to understand each other. It is just weird for other people to lurk or comment on BMB that arn't their own. I always think "really... this is what you do with your time? Tolling boards for people you disagree with so you can 'correct' them?"

@fwtx5815 I think it serves as an early reminder to posters that there are lots of different people who read (and comment) and that the BMBs are not necessarily the safest places to share personal info.
