But what do you guys do when it comes to burping for these dream feedings? I could feed LO in his sleep, sure... But take that bottle away and go to burp him and off we go. And if I don't burp he spits up

I just take bottle out, out him on my chest... Get a good burp or two, then go put him back tummy down in crib.. It works great for him. I do have his crib mattress on an incline (pillow underneath end of mattress) .. That might help?
My 6 week old takes about 3 oz in almost 45 min to an hour sometimes. It gets frustrating at night especially if he doesn't go back to sleep. We have tried medium flow nipples but he ends up wearing most of the bottle and gagging on it. We currently use the playtex drop ins but am considering something else. He already takes Zantac for the fussy climbing after eating and gripe water/little remedies gas drops. I feel like I'm doing everything and failing! Any suggestions?
Now I'm worried my LO is gaining weight too quickly. He is averaging about a pound a week. He was 8 lbs 7 oz at birth, dropped to just below 8, and was back at his birth weight in a week. At one month he was 12 lbs 4 oz, and we go for his two month on Tuesday, but we're thinking he is 15 lbs or so. DH and I are both tall. I do make a lot of milk, but I don't feel like LO over eats. He is EBF. I guess we'll see what the doctor says...
ETA: posted this on the wrong thread...sorry! It was discussed somewhere. I. Need. Sleep. LO was ready to party at 3:30 today!

These stats are almost EXACTLY my LO. We are EBF. And my pedi said to keep feeding him, and until he is 3 years old, he cannot be obese. I was surprised to hear others discussing too much weight gain after getting that from my pediatrician.
It's another sign that everyone is different and though we constantly stress, probably our kids will all turn out just fine no matter what, as long as we just try our best. I've been reading more and more about how parents do too much reading and thinking, and just need to chill!
@virginiaunicorn11 thanks! That's what I would think too! At his one month, pedi said he looked great, and we were doing everything right. Hopefully she's still singing the same tune on Tuesday!
Finally bought a nipple shield after legitimately bawling for 2 hours during and after my last feed on my damaged nipple from the pain even though every medical professional and my cousin who used them have strongly advised against it. I just figure it can't possibly be made any worse than it is and I'm so desperate.
@lwyz don't fret about the shield. I used one for the first two weeks with no problems. I also still use it occasionally now when LO gets frustrated with my flow. It's so helpful! Some women use them for months!
@Sjeff0816 Thanks. I know lots of women have used them successfully here, I think I'm so emotional about it because it's just against all of what I expected.
Also, my bump app is not letting me post most of the time so just everyone know I'm supporting you through silence! (I know the website exists but. ..yeah.)
My LO will start daycare in a week time... She has been great on bottles with expresses milk but all the sudden she starts to refused the bottles about a week ago... We have tried different bottles and different ppl feeding her... Nothing works
I am a bit worried of her not eating at daycare... Family and friends have told us the relaxes and ensure she will adjust and take the bottles eventually when she gets hungry enough... I and FTM and we r just really worried
Does anyone have any past experience?!? And suggestions??
@momtobe613 my LO eats about every 1-2 hours all day and most of the night! I am very jealous of all you mommas who have babies going every 3-4 hours! Luckily I have a lot of milk! I still have to pump two or three times a day and freeze about 10 ounces a day (or more) in addition to EBF. My DS only eats for 5-10 minutes and only one side. When I try to push it longer or get both sides he just spits it all back up and I end up wearing it. He has plenty of wet and poopy diapers and has already about doubled his birth weight and he seems happy after eating so I guess he is getting enough. Luckily I am home still on maternity leave and can feed him as often as he needs, but it is tough sometimes never having a break. He takes a bottle okay, but to go more than two hours or so without pumping or nursing him I become engorged. I figure I will ask the pediatrician this week at his two month checkup.

its possible for babies to gain weight too fast? what? seriously? how do you slow it down if thats the case, starve the kid?
@Sammy K sorry, traveling this week. We saw improvement in less than 24 hours. Do you have any other signs other than her being a crab ass? (I say that lovingly). Mucus poops were our big sign and those are gone. I am worried you just have a colicky baby. My first was unaffected by diet changes. My only saving grace was getting out of the house. I went back to work part time at 5 weeks. Can you get DH to give you more regular short breaks? This will end, they ALL outgrow it. Hang in there!
@JessHeppell and others. No starving the babies! I know you were just joking. If you are breastfeeding on demand feeding is ideal and its okay if they gain quickly. My LO was born at 7 lbs and weighed in a 16.1 at 2 months. Doc was not concerned at all. His fat rolls have rolls and he is in 9 and 12 month clothing. He seems to eat like any other breastfeed baby in terms of number of feedings. DH and I are both active and healthy eaters and we'll work to pass those habits on to our kids but being a hilariously fat breastfeed baby at 10 weeks has no correlation with later weight issues. All babies are different.
@henrytviii She has seriously stinky gas and farting/pooping is a traumatic event. I changed my diet last Thursday and she didn't poop til last Sunday and it was a 2 diaper blow out. Then she didn't poop again until this Fri night, but not much. She's been in obvious discomfort in between. Saturday night she had a blow out so big it left a 1' poop stain on the sheets and mattress pad, soaked everything so much that DH put her in the tub to clean up. Then all she did yesterday was sleep. She was pretty smiley when she was awake, which is unusual. I'm going to give it another full week and talk to the ped. There's something wrong with her gut, I just don't know how to fix it.

better not be a real issue. my LO is like 12 lbs (not offical dr/ babyscale measured weight) at 1 month and was 8 11 at birth. he has been gaining weight since his 3 day earth side.
^^^ that just means he's healthy and growing. Be thankful you don't have to worry, the opposite problem is much more troubling for mamas. LO left the hospital at 6-12 and was 8-3 at his 6 day checkup 4 days later! The only thing I'm worried about it what happens when I can't pick him up. My arms are jacked but no one gives me a break for long, he's too heavy
@henryviii no way would I starve him. My LO sounds very similar to yours. We go tomorrow for two month check up, but think he is over 16lbs. I never thought it was an issue until I read something on another thread about pedis being concerned. I'm with you on picking him up though! Lol. Mine likes to be walked when he's tired and I told him yesterday that mommy's arms were about to fall off!
Ladies just a question. My LO is 6 weeks and is currently drinking 4oz of formula which doesn't seem to be enough. The next step is 6oz but they say that's the amount for 12 weeks plus.
The question is, is anyone else's LO drinking more than what's "suggested"?

Actually, my LO is also 6 weeks and just the past 2 days made the jump up to 4oz, and I was wondering if he was on track. Every now and then he acts like he wants more, too. But I usually wait a little before I give it to him, I'm afraid he will spit up
@mellymar I've been waiting to cause LO did spit up a bit in the past but I find his looking for more bottle an hour or so later and will easily finish another 2oz
I think I'm throwing out our night routine cause he wants more to eat and is waking more often to eat.

Exactly. But my mind rebels at the thought that just a few days ago he was taking 2oz, and now seems to want more than 4. I wonder if he would sleep longer.... Hmmm
Ugh. My hubs just texted me, he has people at his work telling him to add cereal to LOs bottles so he'll sleep longer.
Dude. The kid is 6 weeks old. Its WAY too early to be thinking about that ish. I know you (DH) want the kid to sleep longer, and trust me, so do I. But should think 3 hours between feedings is about right for a creature with a stomach the size of an egg
About to go in for LO's lip tie 2nd opinion. She definitely has something going on because her lip blisters and my poor nipples speak for themselves. Ugh.

@Sammy K I'm in the same boat. Just went dairy free last week per pedi. Pooping is always a major event for us with hours of grunting and gas leading up to it.

Is it weird that I'm excited to start introducing formula to my LO? When he's 4 months I will be going back to work and I want him to have back up options if I don't have enough pumped milk.. I researched formulas and I ended up going with Babys Only organic... Downside I have to always order it, upside looks like it's good stuff.. Anyone feed there LO's this?
kid just drained one boob, threw up cause my nipple went too far back, and is now sucking on his hand after being on the other boob for a bit. everytime he burps a bit of spit up dribbles out. do i continue feeding him? :S never had this issue before.

I'm not using that specific brand, so this isn't completely relevant, but if you're looking for a organic alternative, I'm using Earths Best Organic to supplement my LO. She hasn't had too many gas issues, minimal spit ups and seems to like it just fine. I get mine at Target because it's cheaper there, but they also carry it in the grocery stores.
I have mastitis so I am taking augmentin antibiotic the doctor at the urgent care I went to said it was fine to keep breastfeeding...but ppl are freaking me out that I am any opinions??
@dancegurl1118 I hope things go well at the appt. With everything you have going on, the moving, clogged ducts, etc. you've been such a strong mama just getting through it! I hope you find answers soon!
@paige0704 when I had mastitis I just kept on breastfeeding. The Drs suggested I continue and had no issues doing so.
She's in so much pain. I thought my heart was exploding listening to her scream while they lasered her. They did her tongue, lip and apparently she had cheek (called buccal ties) too. Even if it doesn't completely correct the breastfeeding issues I didn't want the decay and speech issues later on.
But her pain cry is killing me. I have to do "stretches" every few hours for a few weeks which basically means keeping the wounds open because the mouth heals so quickly that the ties reattach. She's in so much pain and I'm just nervous I made the wrong decision or that she's going to associate bad things in her mouth...ugh. She's miserable. Patiently waiting for her next Tylenol dose while wearing her non-stop.

@dancegurl1118 I'm so sorry you both have to go through that! Trust your gut that you made the right decision. It will help her in the long run. She won't remember it, and she'll be able to eat better soon. I know she's getting lots of extra cuddles tonight!
@dancegurl1118 hopefully tonight isn't too bad for your little girl! While it's hard now, it will pay off for the rest of her life to not have issues eating or with speech. Stay strong these next few days! Lots of T&Ps your way!!

& @delujm0 he's in the 98th percentile for length so he's certainly been growing! Perhaps this is another growth spurt.
