  • @dancegurl1118 I'm so sorry you are going through this...but what you are doing is for the best ! Stay strong sending thoughts and love your way!

@CillyMama thanks for your post I called pedi as well and they said it was fine phew!! I was so worried!

  • @dancegurl1118 :( I'm so sorry that you guys are going thru that. But I'm with the others - it was worth it in the long run, and she won't remember. I'm sorry she hurts, tho. Breaks my heart thinking about it. I'm hopeful tonight will be better than today, and tomorrow better as well

  • @dancegurl1118 as heartbreaking as it is, it was the right call. Just think about all the little boys that had circumcisions...they won't remember that either. Thinking of you and LO.
  • @dancegurl1118 my little guy has tongue tie and his gum also makes it so that he will have a gap in between his front teeth. The LC noticed it at the hospital, but it hasn't affected his latch or Breast feeding at all. DH & I still want to get it fixed and I'm actually going to ask the pedi about it tomorrow. I don't want him to have to fix his gums when he's older and will remember it. Hang in there! You did the right thing! Hopefully she's settled down and you both get some sleep!
  • @dancegurl1118 oh my heartbreaks for you. It makes me remember hearing LO getting his circ done. Nothing worse than the pain cry.

I regretted it for the first day just because I know how much pain I put him through but 5 weeks later and it's a forgotten memory(for him at least)

Good luck for the next couple of days. Your a better mama for doing it now and not when there older. Sending you and your LO hugs.
  • @dancegurl1118 just checking in to see how your LO is doing today?

  • ^^^^ you rock! Glad she's better today!
  • I just want to say that my LO and I have gotten into a groove with the side-lying nursing position, and I am SUCH a big fan. Completely changed my feelings about early morning wake-ups. LO really is a pretty good sleeper but it's rare that I feel ready to get up for the day at 5:00 or 5:30 when she wakes, so I've been pulling her into bed with me and nursing lying down and we both fall back asleep for a couple more hours (...or more, some days! she can keep snacking whenever she wants while in that position, so she can stay content for a long time). Took a couple days to figure it out and get comfortable, but now LO automatically turns her head toward me when I lay her on her back on the bed.

It's also been a great trick for calming her down if she's been overstimulated/overtired and getting fussy in the evenings... I'll take her back to the bedroom which is cool and quiet, and we'll lay down on the bed and nurse, and she'll take a good nap that way.

Yep, it is a great last resort.. And nice to know it's available when needed :) I do the same

  • So jealous of your side lying success! We can't get it down -- I cannot for the life of me get comfy. I end up with one arm behind my head and all jumbled.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • @joyfuljenny I also love the side lying position! We started co sleeping for this very reason. I feel like I got my life back because I can now sleep. It's not ever as deep as it used to be, but I don't think that will ever return :) I unfortunately am still up at 5/5:30 most mornings but get like 4-5 hours of sleep most nights.
@dancegurl1118 I had to try and work on it for like a week before it got comfy. Maybe now that your LO's latch is getting better it will be easier. It's also easier o practice during a daytime nap when you aren't as tired!
  • Hi there! I need some opinions from the pumping mamas. I currently pump at 4pm while my hubby feeds LO an expressed bottle. All day leading up to the pumping session I feel uncomfortable even though I nurse one side each feeding. I am thinking about switching my pumping time. LO wakes up twice at night and I wind up getting engorged and leak everywhere while I sleep. My question is, what time do you think is the best time to pump?

    A) First thing when I wake up? This way I drain the girls after a long night and hopefully have a comfortable day. Plus I heard this is the time of day where you produce the most.

    or

    B) After her last feeding before I go to bed? Hopefully doing this will drain them before sleeping and I won't engorge or leak.

    TIA!
  • Going back to work on Monday so we are trying to switch over to formula. I'm done. I can't. This baby needs to use his words and tell me what the heck is going on.
  • @cait7425 I wouldn't do it before bed because by draining it you're telling your body to make more milk which I don't think solve your problem.

  • @cait7425 I leak all night long and pump after my morning feed when we get up for the day but then I'm comfortable during the day
  • @dancegurl1118 do you think that this would still happen if I'm just substituting the feed? Like instead of nursing, I'm pumping and DH is bottle feeding with the milk expressed the night before. So I'm not tacking on another session, just trying to take out more than DD does before bed.

@LaurenS119 it's such a catch 22. I wake up because I'm leaking= less sleep. But if I pump in the morning I would be comfy, but then I feel like I would be telling my body to produce more milk.

Or I could just leave everything as is and pray that one day my body will regulate. Ugh, for something so natural, bf-ing is tough.
  • @charliepepper - I was by no means trying to insult anyone for using formula...my baby will have to be a formula baby too. Thank God for formula when the need arises. I am speaking out of frustration because I feel Iike I have failed my baby...I couldn't get pregnant the natural way and went through IVF, I couldn't carry full term and delivered 9 weeks early, and the only thing I am good at is pumping milk for him and he can't even drink it! I pump 5-6oz per pumping 8 times a day and he currently drinks 2oz per meal... My surplus is HUGE and I am frustrated at having to let it go to waste if unable to donate frozen milk. There are so many people who struggle to produce milk...and here I am with an abundance that is useless. When I look at the ingredients in formula it makes me sad because I feel like I am just starting him on the train of processed foods and chemicals too early in life. I know that millions of us were formula babies and we turned out just fine, but I feel like I am losing out on the mommy baby bond of breast feeding - I'm just sad...that's all.

This is what I typically do too.
  • LO will not take a bottle anymore. She took one 2 days post tongue tie revision and it was fine...now she just plays with it in her mouth and screams. She's latching beautifully on me, but this doesn't bode well for daycare. Yikes...

Research organic formulas.. I'm starting to supplement LO in prep for return to work in a couple months... I've researched A LOT.. There are 4 formulas I decided between to feed my LO
    1. Hipp organic
    2. Holle organic
    3. Baby's only organic
    4. Honest company organic

I decided to go with Baby's only ... It's the only one that doesn't contain palm oil, which they put in to try to replicate breastmilk, but because it's not natural acts as/builds up as a soap in babies tummy.. The first 2 are "THE BEST" but would have to order from Germany and I don't want to stress about running out.. So Baby's only is what I decided.... I recommend researching what you are feeding.. You might be surprised .. I was : /, I also have to order it but in a pinch can buy it at whole foods ...
  • I'm sorry your journey has been so tough @kezdk -- don't discount yourself. There's so much more that goes into being a good mama than just what you "do". And I totally hear you on the issue w processed foods; we don't eat processed stuff at our house either. Hopefully this will just be temporary for your LO, and you can find a brand that you like (I've heard good things about Earths Best Organic)!
  • @HayesRN13 my sister feeds her baby Holle, no issues at all with her belly.

@charliepepper earths best actually is not a very good organic formula.. Compared to others that are out there... It sucks you really have to research this stuff and it takes forever
  • @HayesRN13 my sister feeds her baby Holle, no issues at all with her belly.

Yes it's the best, I'm just worried having it coming from Germany ... Running out.. So I decided on Baby's Only.. It's "second best"
  • I remember researching this for DS and I was so frustrated that Europe has so many better options. Good luck ladies.
  • ^^ yea it sucks the U.S. Can't get it together in this department
  • @dancegurl1118 , does your sister have any problems ordering and having enough? Can you ask her what site she orders it? And if she's had any issues... I REALLY want to supplement with Holle, that is my first choice, and haven't started yet.. If you can let me know.. I've been to a few sites and basically say they have had too many orders "at this time"... That's my only worry. But if I can find a for sure site to order from I would def want to use Holle
  • ^^^ bah!!!
  • Not sure what's going on with my supply. This morning I was so engorged that LO couldn't latch on the right, and this evening I've been drained dry and LO still wants more. Maybe I'm a bit dehydrated, I'd better suck back some water before the next feed.
  • @HayesRN13 I'll ask her now and get back to you!

  • @HayesRN13 bahhh I just talked to her and she said she's having a lot of trouble getting it recently and it's sold out. Thankfully her LO is on cereal and solids now so she needs less of the formula and has enough. I'm sorry!

@HayesRN13 we choose the baby's only formula for supplementation too. We are happy with it. We had to formula feed during lo's first week and she did great on it. We will be sending it to daycare as backup.

Edited to include: I did similar research and specifically chose this brand. I buy it from vitacost.com

Thanks for asking ... That's the reason I won't choose that one :( ... At least I have some validation now!
  • Welp...now LO won't take a bottle. I don't know if her mouth is hurting her again but she never had a problem taking a bottle EVER until the tongue and lip tie revision. She just screams and when she does suckle she just does short little suckles and chokes, and does not have a seal at all on the bottle. I just sent DH out to get different kinds of bottles but...4 days post revision is a weird time to all the sudden be acting up. She took a bottle fine 1 day later. Ughhhhhh

Ugh how frustrating! I hope she works it out :( I bet if she's crying it might still be a bit painful? I bet she just needs a bit more time .. Hang in there

  • @dancegurl1118 I hope she feels better soon. Maybe one of the new bottles will work. T&P for you and LO. I know you struggled with the decision for her procedure. Try not to second guess yourself, you're a great mom and I know everything is going to work out just fine! Keep us posted!
  • @kezdk don't be too hard on yourself momma! Life is hard. Babies are hard. I love my LO more than anything but he is hard for such a little thing! Not being able to breastfeed sucks and you have every right to be mad that it's not going the way you planned. Good luck finding the formula that fits your family's lifestyle choices the best! I understand how that can be tough. I'm not very good lately but I went paleo for almost a year and can appreciate not wanting to do processed foods. In a couple months your LO will be trying all kinds of new things that you can have more of a say over too! Light at the end of the tunnel?!
  • And @dancegurl1118 hopefully a new bottle works! Have you tried the Dr. Browns nipples? I have heard positive things about it for babies needing a lower flow
