LO is waking up after feelings and not wanting to go back down. He was up from 2-4. Actually he fell asleep but not without his paci...and someone had to keep that thing in his mouth. He was doing so well. :-/

ETA: should I be making him stay awake more during the day? He's 7 weeks

Yeah, same. He's very clingy. Three "C's" right? Crying, clingy, cranky. I hope it settles for you by the weekend too- difficult to move without a newborn! We were supposed to be going to visit family in Maryland this weekend about 5 hours from where we live but I don't think I can do it on the sleep deprivation that has been invoked this week.
  • Baby was not feeling well last night...don't know if it was gas, maybe something i ate? Or if the bottles we are using are bothering her...this meant she slept in her crib for only 2.5 hours and then screamed the rest of the night until 5 am so I gave in and she slept on my chest on the couch from 5 to 8. I feel guilty but I feel like the walking dead :((

Any suggestions... She seems to be crying when she eats and a bit afterwards...gas or maybe nipple flow is too slow? Using tommee tippee bottles now...thinking about trying a different bottle
  • Lo will be 8 weeks on friday overall she is pretty awesome at night only making little grunts at 3am when she has a gas bout. But I've been getting up at 3 to pump which is all fine and dandy except I stay awake for an hour when lo wakes at 5 to dad's alarm.. ugh I go back to work Friday and I need to get out of this groove especially since lo is rocking it. We transition to crib in her own room next week so we shall see how mich nighttime sucks then..

We were using tommee tippee and baby was having a ton of gas. After a few bad nights of my husband giving the bottle I finally made the correlation. We switched to dr Browns and haven't had any trouble since.
  • We have our 2 month appointment next Thursday and I'm so nervous she's gonna be up all night fussing from the shots. Anyone have their shots Already and what happened with your LO?
  • @katyertl she had hers at 6 weeks. She was super grumpy that day and extra sleepy. She would wake up screaming. She woke up every 3 hours to eat at night which was not normal for her. But it was just 24 hours, she was back to normal after. My pedi asked me not to give Tylenol unless necessary because of new research so I tried not to.

I was thinking about getting dr Browns today so thank you for responding!! Fingers crossed it works!

No problem. Don't know if you're breastfeeding but if you are they have a wide neck bottle that they suggest. It has all the same parts that the regular bottle has. We started with a 4 oz two pack from babies r us for like ten bucks and when we were satisfied with how they were working ordered 2 3 packs of the 8 oz wide necks. Just wanted to make sure you knew they had them if you're breastfeeding. Hope it works !!

What time do you have to be at work? I have to be there by 6:45. My LO gets up around 3:30-4:30 to eat & I plan on just being up & showering & having coffee/breakfast while she's asleep with dad. Then get her ready & head out around 6:15.

Could you pump before bed & then feed her at 4 or 5?

  • I work at 8:30 I read some blogs about the witching hour of pumping.. dad has to be at work at 6 and he doesn't get up until 5:20 so I usually get her up feed her change the diaper and then put her back down again which gets her til 8ish and I pump again around 7. I think once I'm satisfied with the stash pile I'll cancel that 3am session. Her dad is taking off Friday since it's my first day back and then next week is with the grandparents who haven't met her yet... so should be interesting.
  • there needs to be a daytime sucks thread.
this kid just wants the boob. i didnt get to eat lunch till 3:30 because LO had been feeding/burping and whatever from 10:30-2:30ish then he fell asleep. woke up so i walked around holding him until he passed out. he woke up a shortly after i washed some dishes and finally got something to eat.
now he keeps waking up and wont go back to sleep unless im nursing him. i tried to let him cry it out but he acts like he is starving. he has even cried a couple times while latched on to the boob.
he has never been like this.
  • So LO got a bottle for her last feeding of the night and took 3 oz but was so mad..usually I nurse her and she goes right to sleep. Feel like I'm setting myself up for another shitty night.

On the brighter side Luvs diapers have been working so well for us the past few days. SO MUCH CHEAPER! I didn't change her diaper at all Last night (trying new things to make he sleep and it was just pee). 8 hours and no leaks. I get leaks in huggies in 3 hours.

  • DH is taking the 9 and 12 feedings after the sh!#-tastic day we had. But I still can't sleep yet because I need to pump in about 30 min. At least I know eventually I have 5-6 hours of sleep coming my way. Don't worry, I'll be here at 3am.

I'm pretty sure I'll be here a lot tonight. LO has had a rough day and tonight she's decided to just scream every 15-20 mins. She's also spit up after pretty much every feeding today. No fun.
  • @JessHeppell you just described my day EXACTLY!
  • @JessHeppell you have also described my previous 2 days. Today was not so bad cause I turned the kid over to dad as soon as he got home. So he had to deal with the constant bouncing, walking, soothing. Not my problem, dude

  • I could cry. LO only slept for 3.5 hours. I don't get it. I thought the stretches were supposed to get longer, not shorter. FML.

No.. It sounds like it makes sense but they need their sleep, somedays more ...they are growing so fast.. And it could potentially make him a not so good sleeper all around, and sleep poorly at night
  • My LO is sleeping peacefully, why am I awake??? My brain just doesn't want to shut off wtf brain....
  • Currently debating on whether I should go to sleep or stay up for 45 more minutes (maybe fold some laundry? Jk Netflix) when DS is going to wake up for another feeding. Is 45 min of sleep going to help or make me feel worse?
  • I cannot get this baby to sleep. Nothing is working. I feel like the worst
    Mom ever.

LO will not go down for the night now until 1am. It used to be 11. It doesn't seem to matter how early we start the nighttime routine. From around 7pm he fusses and cries between these short little naps. So exhausting. Then after all that he only sleeps a few hours.

Just saw this and thought of you! Hope you made the right choice!

  • What sucks the most about this is that while we were all pregnant we were moaning about being up in the middle of the night like it would actually end. Now I have to feed, pump, put a baby back down, and then I still lay in bed for hours.

Sleep! It's not guaranteed when LO will wake up! Take the opportunity.
  • @bbnmama2012 sleep! Just do it!

  • Why will LO gladly accept the bassinet for her first stretch of nighttime sleep but then REFUSE IT EVERY OTHER TIME???? I'm not even sure why I try anymore. I should just deal with "sleeping" in the recliner in the nursery for the rest of my life I guess.

I also need to come up with a better way to couch sleep during daytime naps bc those will only occur on top of me as well. Sigh. She's almost 11 lbs now. When does sleeping through the night happen.
  • These hour long nursing sessions in the middle of the night... Yeah they're making me want to quit breastfeeding. By the time he eats, I change him and get him to sleep it's almost time to go again.

@HayesRN13 thanks for the response. That's what I thought! We already don't have a great sleeper, so the last thing I want is to make it worse. Tonight has been so much better than last night!

ETA-@mellymar I love the how it looks, how it feels...so very true!
  • Any of yours screaming bloody murder? It must be a wonder week leap, she's 4 1/2 weeks and yesterday was our second worst day ever with screaming and last night she refused to go back down after her feedings. And again, up at 330, 5, then 6 with 6 being full blown scream.

Did yall experience this Around 4-5 weeks? Nothing soothes her and I get so frustrated

This is me right now. 5 weeks + 1. Crying unless on the boob or in my arms on the bouncy ball. Mom can't bouncy all day. Even if he falls asleep on the bouncy ball, once I stop he is awake and screaming again. Yesterday I made it dads problem, but the 2 days before that? All me. I lived on poptarts

Dealing with this now. First leap also. The last three nights have been equally painful. 2 days left in this leap. Hope it's true.

This has been mine since week 2. Currently 6 weeks and I feel like I'm going down a rabbit hole.

I'm sleep deprived so this may only be funny to me but I heard that Sam Smith song on the radio and thought of those of you with unhelpful partners:

These nights never seem to go to plan
I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand?

Oh, won't you stay with me?
    'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
    But darling, stay with me

    Why am I so emotional?
No, it's not a good look, gain some self-control
And deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt

Except for the "this ain't love" part it really seems to apply to newborn nights. Especially "deep down I know this never works" as we all hopefully/hopelessly lay our babies down in their beds.
