They mentioned the balloon cath to me as an option when I was induced (for high blood pressure). We didn't end up needing it,buy basically they but it in your cervix and slowly inflate it to help you dilate. I did. Round of cervadil (prostaglandin) which is inserted right up to the cervix. Then,a pitocin drip. It took about 36 hours from the placement of the cervadil to delivery.

I'm being started on both the cervadil and the cath at the same time.
My OB did just the Foley bulb until I was 4cm which took about 6 hours then started pitocin which took another 6 hours. It was a quick and mostly uneventful induction.

  • My husband and I have finally decided what we are doing for Christmas: buying tickets to a concert at the arts centre where an orchestra will be playing music from video games. We are pretty excited about it. Neeeeeeeeeeeerds.
Is it Video Games Live?? I went to that a few years ago! It was amazing!
Saw them earlier this year. You're in for a treat! Enjoy!

There is a group that does this with the final fantasy music - we went last year, it was super nerdy fun. Have you ever heard if the band I Fight Dragons? They do video game inspired (super catchy) songs. Full disclosure, I'm related to one of the band members, but I still think they're awesome.

Agree about the need for a pregnancy status post. Would be nice to counter the feeling of being left behind now that the announcements thread is into the hundreds.

    You can put socks on?!

If I sit on the stairs and grab the leg of my pants (when I wear pants) to drag my leg up onto my opposite knee, I can sometimes get socks on by myself. Sometimes.

But most of the time I don't wear socks because using my toes to pick up all the stuff I drop in a day is the only way anything gets picked up off the floor.

If I can't pick it up with my toes, it's staying on the floor.

    ----------------QBF---------------

Haha, I guess I should clarify. DH put a pair of HIS socks on me. I can't reach, and all of my own are too tight. You should see/hear me try to get dressed for work while he's at school. It scares the dog.

Postpartum hormones are set in. First, baby girl had to have a bunch of eye ointment on because she had drainage in her eyes (normal I know) but I cried like a baby. And SO has a rather large immediate family and his sister has 4 kids under the age of 8 that are rowdy and it made me on edge the entire time they visited, and SO mom is driving me up a wall just by opening her stupid mouth. I'm ready to be out of this stupid hospital and for people to get out of my face.

That is all. Thank you for letting me rant.

I completely feel your pain. But I don't think it is all PPD. Family is very tough to deal with, especially in the hospital. I eventually just told everyone to leave so I could rest. Take care and know you aren't alone, many women are going through the same thing right now.

  • This scares me.  I have been wavering and considering letting my inlaws be at our house when we get home.  I think that the last few posts have made me realize that I need my space when I get home.  Give me a few weeks before you come into my house and take over.  I'll end up being a hormonal bitch and flipping shit on someone.

Someone always asks "what happens if your water breaks right now!" and I always say "then I would leave and get ready to have a baby." Well this conversation happened and everyone was pretty drunk and I said I would probably just leave and not tell anyone what was going on (because they'd all be super obnoxious about it) and someone actually said "You don't think I'd smell it?" what? No, I don't think you'd smell it...

    Hahahahahha wait... What?!

Also, with all the medical advances we have made, how have we not figured out how to bottle up toddler energy so adults can share it.  I seriously don't know where DD gets it from.

Agreed! If I could just have like half the energy of my 2.5yr old I'd be thrilled. I was up all night with contractions pretty steady started to get unbearable got ready to call the dr and they have noe completely stopped all I want to do today is sleep. This little not is not going to let me.
  • NBR: anyone have any recommendations on clipping large dogs' nails. I've only done my cat, and his nails are white, and little. But it's easy to see the quick. With my pups, their nails are black and I'm nervous. We usually take them to the vet. Any suggestions?

I take mine to the vet too. I figure the $9 nail trim is worth it since the alternative is traumatized dogs/me and bloody paw prints on my carpet. I'm just not that brave.

I was ALWAYS afraid of that, too. I just took my dogs to the vet to get their toe nails clipped, or I would file them down.... Then again my dogs were pretty laid back and let me do virtually anything to them.

If your dogs are a little unruly try giving them the "doggie dosage" of a Benadryl and let them get kinda drowsy before attempting the nail file.

    Hope this helps.

@stormygrace, the octopus sounds like it leaves more to the imagination. haha ;)

  • @cryssteen Our shepherd has black nails, unless he cracks/breaks one I just let them go. They seem to be filing themselves down since I started that. I tried taking him to a groomer starting at about 10 weeks to have it done, I tried to get them done once a month and he still fights it. I hate fighting him to clean his ears too.

  • Cleaning the ears was the WORST... especially when my dog got mites... poor little thing hated when I put his meds in his ear.

He would walk around with his head tilted to one side and run into stuff for like an hour because he was all off balance. :D It was kind of cute. haha

If you bend the paw back and look at the bottom of the paw - trying to figure out a good way to describe it , flex the paw? - then you can see the underside of the nails and can sort of get an underneath visual of where the quick starts. Start by taking tiny bits off at a time. Black nails are the worst. Secret: we even have issues with them at the vet haha. If you do happen to quick your puppy pack some flour on the bleeding nail, it should help to stop the bleeding.

  • Thanks girls. This is all because DH was supposed to take them to the vet yesterday to have it done. They're too big for me to handle on my own. Vet isn't open on Sunday's and DH is working Monday Tuesday wednesday. I wanted it done before my induction on wed. He's the worst!
    image
  • If your dogs can handle it, I used to use the automatic nail file they sell on infomercials. My dog was very chill and would let me do whatever to him, so it worked. The problem is that it is noisy and feels weird to the dog.

  • Ditto what @allitor12‌ said. It's kind of a white line and if you scratch it it's a little bit softer than the rest of the nail. That's how we've always done with our dogs with darker nails. But my current dog is such a wimp about it that we not only have to take him to the vet, but they have to slightly sedate him! We always joke that he's coming home from his pedicure drunk
  • @gdaniels77 my dog has been sedated twice for stitches and I cried when they did it. I couldn't imagine even slightly making him sedated for his toe nails.

  • @Cryssteen‌ my dog is the absolute worst. They did one nail and said no way last time. My dog is sweet as pie 90% of the time. You can annoy her when she's eating, drag her around like a rag doll when she's sleeping but she flips the bitch switch if you touch her nails. I'm seriously in the market for a real vet grade dremel, those as seen on TV types don't work on hers. I've tried three...
  • @Shortstack06‌ It's the kind of situation where you're laughing and crying at the same time because on one hand they're acting so goofy it's almost amusing but on the other they're so doped up and confused that you feel so sad for them. Definitely a crazy dog lady thought but it's one of those times I so wish he could talk so he could tell me if he was good or miserable.

But young children waking up from sedation/anesthesia is so heartbreaking. Because even if they were just put under for some routine procedure it is so scary for them to wake up and not know what in the world is going on, and they're so hysterical and out of it there's no way to even explain to them that they're okay and it's normal.
