Re: Friday Spam

  • Ok, I need y'alls help: I have a wedding to go to in NYC when I will be 20 wks. and 1 wedding to go to in Orlando when I will be 24 wks.

    Questions:
    1. Is it at all possible that I can find a suitable dress that will fit my (expected?) bump at BOTH 20 and 24wks?

the wedding in NYC is more just a reception for a planned elopement - and will be more fashionable/hipster/casual than the formal one in Orlando

    2. Can you think of (and direct me to) a dress that will work for both the colder, more hipster/casual NYC wedding and the warmer, more formal Orlando wedding while also fitting a body that I have no idea what will look like??

or am I doomed to have to buy 2 maternity wedding dresses that I will literally never wear again.
I bought this one from Motherhood for a wedding we went to in Orlando that was pretty formal. I just dressed it up a bit with gold sandals and jewelry and a really pretty scarf/wrap.

So, yesterday, they misplaced my file while I was at my OB and no one came to get me to prick my finger after my one hour for the glucose thing.  Being a FTM, I didn't know I should go look for someone.  DH and I got to talking after our A/S and before I knew it, it had been 30 mins since the timer had gone off.  So I did go find someone, they tested me and it came out at 138.  Still ok, but they wanted to re-test.  SO, I drank that drink again at 6:15 this AM so I could get there at 7:15 to have my finger pricked and still get to work by 7:30.  Everything went great, my number today was 86, so I'm very happy about that.  BUT drinking that thing on a very empty stomach made me so nauseous.  Thank you carbs for helping me out this AM!   ;)
Aren't we early for the GD test? Doesn't that usually happen closer to 24-26 weeks? Someone know the answer so I don't have to google.
I was given my 1hr glucose sceening at 8wks

I also had to take it around 8 weeks. But they did warn me I would have to take it again. Not sure why I had to do it twice. Last time with DS it was just once. I can't remember when but 24-28 weeks sounds right.
Interesting.  I didn't know they could give it that early.  I'm constantly worried about getting GD -- my mum had it and she also developed diabetes some 5 years after. Every appointment so far they only do the urine dip test.  I've also read that GD doesn't usually manifest until much later in our pregnancy, hence they do the test in our 20+ weeks or so.

Also, for those Broadway lovers. for the wedding in NYC, I am also going to have time to go to a Broadway show. I am very very excited about this. I usually get season tickets to the broadway shows where I live - but have never actually seen one ON Broadway.

Anyway, I need help deciding which show to see. So, if anyone has seen any shows on broadway or heard of any that are awesome tell me! I am currently considering Cabaret, Hedwig (if neil patrick harris is still in it) I would love Les Mis but H hates it ( :( ), and Kinky boots (only because it won all the tonys last year, I know nothing about it).

Basically F15, help me direct my life this morning - dress me and determine my entertainment :)
If you don't mind waiting in line.  Got to TKTS in the morning.  Not sure if you're familar with it buts it in the middle of time square.  You can get excess tix for that day at like half the price. My parents just saw kinky boots and they said it was amazing.

I second this! When I lived in NY and NJ, my grandmother and I would see shows and buy our tickets at TKTS. My gram is a seat snob so we do not sit more than 15 rows back, and we have never had a problem finding good seats at a good rate.

Random thought - the fact that when my stomach growls, I feel it right below my boobs instead of where my stomach used to be, is really weird and a little disconcerting.

This! I have cried several times because I was confused about whether I was hungry or not since the feeling was coming from a different place.

I thought it was early to, but I was told that they can use it as a baseline and if we need to test later on in the pregnancy. I also I remember someone saying that glucose levels can be monitored through the urine sample? IDK about that for sure though.

I need your yarn store owner knowledge: One of my good friends is pregnant - due early Jan- and I want to knit her a blanket. She wants something that is heirloomy and can be saved - so I want it to be really nice and maybe something I can personalize. I want to double knit it.
However, that is as far as I have gotten, Ravelry and google searches haven't given me a blanket I want to make. If I came into your store and said this to you, what pattern(s) would you recommend?? do you have any awesome different things up there in the land of Canada??
  • Happy birthday Izzy!!

DD usually sleeps until 7:30/8 but this morning she woke up (as she often does) just fussing a little at 6:30. DH went in and got her...she's exhausted, was not ready to be awake, and super grumpy. Thanks for the "help" honey!

Same here with my DDs. They were cranky from the get-go at 6:30ish but didn't want to go back to sleep. DH just rolled over and went back to sleep until 10:30. Sigh.

Happy birthday, Izzy! Hope you're enjoying your day so far!

  • Oh my gosh, you guys. I love my students :)

This morning a group of my IB (International Baccalaureate) kids came in and brought me a dozen donuts. I was like, "WHY are you bringing me this?" and they said, "Well, you're pregnant and we know you like them, but we didn't know what kind. So here!"

    It was super sweet.

And now I have donuts :)
It made my day reading that! Also makes me miss the students I really grew fond of (no pets; that wouldn't be fair!) over the past years in my career. Hope you enjoyed all the donuts yourself (of course evenly spaced out and not all at once: you wouldn't want a sugar coma!).

  • Just as I expected BD texted me during my lunch break asking if I were still meeting him today.

My response: No. I told you tell me before today.

So he said he'll drive up here and stay in VA for the weekend with friends to shorten his commute. Fine by me...

Now let's see what pops up next...he's already changed it possibly tomorrow morning because it's about to storm in NC. SMH.

  • I'm sorry that you and YD have to deal with that, @peaceofkia. DH's biological father was like that and while it does still bother them and killed any chance they've ever had at a real relationship, he loves his step dad. A few years ago his bio dad did something and DH let him know "I don't need you, I have a dad and he's been here for me since I was 8". YD is very lucky to have a real dad who will be there anyway.

    Sorry your mom's being annoying.
  • @MaddScientist - This is a crochet pattern, but it's my go-to baby blanket one:

    https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/basket-weave-afghan-baby-blanket

It is a yarn eater, but it works up really nice, and is a nice, warm blanket for a winter baby,  as opposed to the lacy, holey ones people usually make.  I get a lot of compliments on these when I make them.

If you're a knitter, I can definitely find something for you.  ;)

  • @bhjones1980‌ and @GeekBeagle‌ normally I ignore it but the story she showed me and then placed blame on the dog bothered me. The story tells what happened but there are no witnesses and the kids were unsupervised. A Dane could have easily done much more damage if it were an attack so I feel like the reporting is truly one-sided in this case. https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-pinellas/6-year-old-girl-attacked-by-a-great-dane-is-now-home-from-the-hospital

Saying dogs "Snap" is a huge pet peeve of mine, dogs just don't "Snap", the always give warnings/cues of their discomfort with the situation that the humans are probably ignoring (licking, yawning, ears back, etc), nervous licking is a common one since people say "aww look kisses" and the kids come closer and get in the dogs space....

I agree, my Dane drops her ears and tail when she gets nervous so I remove her from situations. I've had many other Dane owners tell me that their dogs act in a similar manner and often try to back out of a situation when they're uncomfortable. They give big signs so either that story is wrong or the people involved are to blame.

Also, what kind of skill level are you looking for, @MaddScientist?
I am an expert lol. I was thinking of having something with more of a pattern (I like the textures and was trying to figure out how to do an enterlac-look double-knit (cuz the reverse side is ugly) but abandoned that quickly.)Now I was thinking of something like this: nursery rhyme quilt
     imageimage

and trying to convert it to a double-knit pattern. Got anything with this feel??

I found this book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Childrens-Nursery-Sweaters-Knitting-Pattern/dp/B0046H235S that seems to have nursery-rhyme patterns in knit: but they look big (1 per sweater or something and it might be difficult to scale down)

  • jennhillhoite Your dog is such a goof. I love him :)

  • My MIL just called to ask how my appointment with the specialist went today and then immediately called DH and said she thinks I'm a hypochondriac because her pregnancies were never that hard.....I'm like on fire right now. How dare you call me a liar when my doctor is very clearly worried. She is sending me to multiple specialists to determine what's going on. My blood work was so bad they made me come in to talk about the results. Now that we got the cancer scare crossed off the list she thinks I'm faking. I don't know my family history because I was adopted and she said she thinks I'm using that as an excuse to get more attention from the doctor....she has NEVER been like this until now. what the fuck
