Re: Friday Spam

  • @MaddScientist

    I found this one:

    https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/build-your-own-blanket

It has various patterns to build reversible squares.  If you're an expert-level knitter, you might be able to modify some of the designs to have the more quilt-looking feel.  Then you could add the larger motifs from the sweater book to have a bit of a patchwork feel to it?  You might have to do a bit of scaling to make the patches all size together correctly.

I tend to go for simple with baby blankets (I like simple geometrics and plain design), but THIS one took my fancy:

    https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sunburst-dk-blanket

I would learn how to double knit just to make this blanket (I'm an expert crocheter, but my knitting is sub-par, haha).  It's lovely!  :)

I will continue my research, though.  :)

  • @bhjones1980‌ and @GeekBeagle‌ normally I ignore it but the story she showed me and then placed blame on the dog bothered me. The story tells what happened but there are no witnesses and the kids were unsupervised. A Dane could have easily done much more damage if it were an attack so I feel like the reporting is truly one-sided in this case. https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-pinellas/6-year-old-girl-attacked-by-a-great-dane-is-now-home-from-the-hospital

Saying dogs "Snap" is a huge pet peeve of mine, dogs just don't "Snap", the always give warnings/cues of their discomfort with the situation that the humans are probably ignoring (licking, yawning, ears back, etc), nervous licking is a common one since people say "aww look kisses" and the kids come closer and get in the dogs space....
I agree, my Dane drops her ears and tail when she gets nervous so I remove her from situations. I've had many other Dane owners tell me that their dogs act in a similar manner and often try to back out of a situation when they're uncomfortable. They give big signs so either that story is wrong or the people involved are to blame.

    ding ding ding

Yeah, they are definitely leaving something out of the story.

Stories like this are the reason I put yellow ribbons on my dogs in public. I just don't want people approaching them and blaming them or their breed for a natural reaction like growling or a defensive stance.

Random thought - the fact that when my stomach growls, I feel it right below my boobs instead of where my stomach used to be, is really weird and a little disconcerting.

Just wait-- after you have the baby, you will be SO confused because you really won't know where the heck your stomach is for a couple days.

  • I looked out the window and saw some dude skiing down the street. He had poles and everything, except instead of actual skis, he had like mini skateboards on his feet. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
  • Thanks for all of the support ladies! DD is lucky enough to have DH for her real dad life and BD occasionally. She loves them both though, and I'm fine with that.

OAN: Found out that my anatomy scan is scheduled for Monday morning! So excited to see my girls again!

  • I just had a complete idiotic and trivial meltdown with DH over the phone because he left dishes in the sink.  I feel so dumb right now because I think what made my meltdown worse is I knew it was dumb thing to be upset about, but I was so worked up that it took me about 10 min to calm down after I hung up on him.  He called me back and when I finally answered,  I felt like a huge ridiculous baby.  I have been really good not to blame things on hormones because I don't feel like it excuses behavior, but for once I might pull this card tonight when he gets home.  I am just so embarrassed with how I acted.

I would never be able to use the hormone card because my hubs is an arse in this sense. He is of the mind that hormones are no excuse to act like a bitch, even on your period. He thinks the excuse of "I was drunk, so I didn't know what I was doing" is also crap because alcohol doesn't make you stupid, it lowers your inhibitions and makes you more susceptible to suggestion and peer pressure.

So, sadly, me using any type of any card as an excuse for a blow up, freak out, or meltdown; is out of the question because it never works.

  • My MIL just called to ask how my appointment with the specialist went today and then immediately called DH and said she thinks I'm a hypochondriac because her pregnancies were never that hard.....I'm like on fire right now. How dare you call me a liar when my doctor is very clearly worried. She is sending me to multiple specialists to determine what's going on. My blood work was so bad they made me come in to talk about the results. Now that we got the cancer scare crossed off the list she thinks I'm faking. I don't know my family history because I was adopted and she said she thinks I'm using that as an excuse to get more attention from the doctor....she has NEVER been like this until now. what the fuck

So sorry you're going through not only all the tests but also your MIL acting so ugly to you. As if you're not enduring enough stress as it is! Any way DH can talk to her and make her lay off or at least keep those terrible remarks to herself?

People are either terrified of Maeby or they think she's incapable of violence and approach without asking. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

  • Rottweilers are very sweet dogs. They are very territorial over people. If you walk into my back yard my dog would probably rip your head off. if I invite you into my home and tell him thats its ok you're coming in he'll run up to the person and love on them like crazy.

Hes also really good with kids as long as they don't touch his butt. For some reason the butt is the only place he won't let you touch. Apparently according to my vet thats common with the breed.

My childhood neighbors had a huge Rottweiler named Zane, and at first I was afraid of him, but he was really the most docile, laid back giant. I always fantasized that he'd let me ride on his back like a little black and brown pony...

Yes, the nipple itch! Yesterday, all day! Maddening! Especially if you are a hospice nurse attending a death, and respectfully trying not to fondle yourself in front of the bereaved! Ugh, I thought it was just me, glad to hear I'm not alone!
