I teach first grade in Colorado. I am a good teacher who has high achieving and high growth scores. I do my job and do it well. I put everything I have into it. Including nights, weekend, and summers!

Our school has 90% free or reduced kids for lunches. Free breakfast for everyone. We DO in fact give out clothing to kids who need it. Including pants, shirts, shoes, underwear, socks, and winter coats. And I pay for a good amount of the school supplies for my classroom out of MY pocket. We will start on Thursday and I have already put in a couple hundred bucks.

Schools (at least mine) also have showers for kids who don't get them at home. We provide treatments for lice for not just the child but the whole family. And then some of the families don't use them.

You don't need to put me on trial. I actually see it every day. And I am helping support a good amount of these kids. So maybe that is why I'm so frustrated. I love them and will continue to support them because they need food in their bellies and warm clothes. But to see their parent walk in totally uninvolved and unaccountable is hard to watch. Especially when it's not politically correct for me to confront the parent.

If you really want to put me on trial here you go. I make 24000 a year. With H's income we are in the 3rd tax bracket, but barely. We paid in 7000 in taxes in total last year and I spend about another 1000 on my classroom for all supplies and necessary items. I live paycheck to paycheck as well.

In order for your tax liability to be $7k with standard deductions, your total household income would have had to be around $75k. Median household income in Colorado is $57k.

Oh. Yeah, I know how to do taxes. And we all pay taxes, so throwing that out like it makes you some kind of martyr is ridiculous.

Let's also point out that someone who is living paycheck to paycheck with a low salary should have a TINY bit more compassion for those who are also one hospital bill away from financial ruin and/or those who don't have a husband's salary to fall back on.

I call bullshit on everything you've posted.

a) I guess that statement from your intro that you were "financially stable" is all a lie, huh, as you live paycheck to paycheck?

b) Again, from your intro, you stated you're 24. That means you've been a teacher for a max of two years, if you are in fact, a teacher. I'd love to know how you have a proven track record of "high achieving and high growth scores," when you've been on the job for less than two years.

c) The lowest paid salary, and that's to the bottom 10% of teachers, even in rural/lower economic areas in CO, is roughly $29,000/annum. Again, based on your inability to comprehend any basic points in this thread, poor grammar/spelling, and the info you have provided, at best, if you work in education as you say you do, you are not a first grade teacher, but maybe a teacher's aide.

You all are hilarious. I do teach, first grade, in northeastern colorado. I make 24000. I work full time. I have taught 2 years and have high growth and achievement for both.

No the clothing is not a distribution point. This is not big city America. It's rural America. My principal goes to walmart, buys the clothes, and we give them out to those in need.

We are stable because we live within our means. And I do not have "extra compassion" because it is possible to still be prepared for a medical or financial emergency. I do it.

I did happen to pay 7000 in taxes and we only made 44000ish as a couple last year.

Ghost monkey you sure think you know it all but you don't know my circumstances or those of my community.

According to https://taxfoundation.org/article/2014-tax-brackets I owe 15% and 15% of 44000 is 6600.

Those who fuck the system don't deserve even one cent of that.

I don't know why I'm even posting here really, but if you are self-employed:

1) Pay estimated taxes during the year like you're supposed to instead of paying a lump sum in April and avoid the interest and penalties.

2) You are figuring your taxes wrong. If you are married the first bracket (10%) goes up to $18,150. So you pay 10% of that much, then 15% on the rest.

3) If you are self-employed you're paying taxes and social security. Social Security is about 15%. So you are not paying $7,000 in taxes. It's taxes and social security.

Sorry my son is teething so I'm awake and I'm a tax preparer so this bothered me.

@Meery82‌ he's a farmer/rancher. He makes all his money in 3 months of the year so we can't pay quarterly like they suggest.

Actually, no, you are wrong again. I can't believe you can sit there with a straight face and claim that farm subsidies are good and justified and full of honest people but social safety net programs are laden with fraud and abuse and killing America.
