  • @hordol‌ It's not good timing for the events, but really nothing can be done to change it. I'm in your husband's place regarding family- we live near all of my DH's family and don't see mine as often. I would be upset if he wanted to cancel part of the trip, because we rarely see my family.

Can you say goodbye to your sister before you leave for out of town? Go for a special dinner or brunch to celebrate together?

  • At Harley's 2 month appointment, she was in the 50th percentile for both height and weight. Today at her 4 month appointment, she was in the 75th for height and the 15th for weight. I'm worried that she only gained 2 pounds in 2 months.

Her doctor isn't concerned, so I know I shouldn't be, but I can't help it. So, in two weeks or a month I'm going to see if they will let me come for a weight check. I'm also debating calling my lactation consultant to do a weighted feed.

She was back up to birth weight at two weeks and 4 pounds heavier at 2 months. So this is a drastic slowing.

On th flip side, she was 18 inches when born, 22 inches at 2 months and 25 inches now. Can a drastic height change make it harder for her to gain weight?

That was a really long vent.

I wouldn't be concerned. I think their weight gain starts to slow somewhat as they get older and if your pedi isn't concerned I wouldn't be. It kind of sounds like the same thing my LO is doing. My percentile are from my Baby Connect app. It probably depends on where they catch them at in their growth spurts too. My little guy is FF and he eats, but think he takes his ozs on the lower end of the range for his age.

    4 month
    25.5 inches (58th percentile)
    13 lbs 11 oz (12th percentile)

    2 month
    23 inches (31st percentile)
    11 lbs 12 oz (24th percentile)

This. BF babies will gain wt faster in the first 3months generally. Then their growth slows. Where as a formula fed baby is slow to gain at first (most likely d/t the difficulties in metabolizing formula) then they put on rapid wt after 3months. This also makes since from a biological perspective as you would want your baby to grow quickly when they are their most vulnerable. Another thought, the MA may not have measured your child correctly, mistakes happen. Once went to an appt and according to the MAs measurements my child's head had shrunk an inch. Not possible me thinks. It's most likely the girl a month earlier had screwed up DD1s measurement.

  • I know that it might seem like I am putting my family had of his, but I'm really not trying to. I never wanted to not go to the baby shower I was just hoping we could drive home when it was done rather than go to his grandma's and spend the night. We are planning to leave the next morning after we have breakfast with his grandma (who we just saw last weekend) so I guess I thought that was why it seemed fair. Maybe not though. I guess I will see if DH is up for driving to Wisconsin straight from Iowa rather than having a break.

  • (Hugs) @hordol! I don't think there's really a right or wrong answer in your situation - somebody is ultimately going to have to miss out on family time. I think your DH jumped the gun on making the decision, and you both will just have to sit down and come up with a solution you can live with. Family stuff is hard, and it never gets any easier!

After trying 3 or 4 times I just bring her in bed and she sleeps great for the next 6 hours. But I want my bed back damnit. Helpppppppp...

No one to pick it up, and holding it at the shipper would be a pita. Good suggestions though.
I'm sure they'll do the doorbuster deal again soon, I'm just annoyed that doing it slipped my mind all week. I even have a gift card from returning some gifts for DD, so it would have been free shopping.

Couldn't you just change the shipping address to someone else's address (who doesn't mind) instead of having someone pick it up?

Edit: Didn't see that @mom2boxers‌ suggested the same. Oops!

  • @mom2boxers We'll have to get together and commiserate because this is going to be us, too.

Merriwether hasn't pooped in four days. I'm really considering busting the windi out if she doesn't go by this evening. She won't sleep on her back or her side when she's this constipated and I don't reaaaaally feel like co sleeping on the couch again.

Will keep you all updated on the windi experiment.

You could try a rectal thermometer with a little vaseline on the tip and move it around a bit. The stimulation might get things moving.

I dread coming up with the Christmas plans. It's not been a problem in the past with no kids. But now that we have one, we might end up with house guests.
I hear ya on Christmas... I'm doubly screwed since Christmas Eve is also my mom's birthday, and I haaaate missing that. DH and I have been married for three years now, and we have yet to spend Christmas with his family, which makes me feel like an ass. He swears its NBD, but I also know he's a clueless idiot about this kind of thing. I think we'll be splitting the holiday this year, and doing lots of driving... I'd love to do house guests, but with my older sister and her family going to our parents' house that ain't happening!

Me neither. I might have been going to comment on something you said, but your name didn't clear from the box? But I could have sworn it was an empty reply box.

Well, that just makes me sad then! I was excited someone said my name, and then nothing. Poop. :(

  • Woke up this morning rocking a severe case of porn star left boob.  Right boob, not so much.  Even after I fed Carlene, I still have a mild case of porn star left boob.  First pump of the morning should be...interesting.

Oh, and apparently my 3 year old has decided to go through the 4 month sleep regression instead of Carlene.  He was up three times last night.  First time when I went up to find him, he was wandering around the living room.  Second time he scared the $#!t out of DH. DH walked into his room, expecting to find him in bed and caught a movement in the middle of the room.  I heard a huge thunk and DS started balling.  The while thing startled me so bad it took me an hour to get back to sleep.

    It's Friday ladies!

  • I know there are a bunch of RTT ladies that can sew. I saw these stuffed letters on a deal website and they're $50 marked down from $90. That's seems outrageously expensive to me but I also can't sew. Could anyone make me a set for cheaper? I don't care about fabric colors or patterns and I can PayPal money :)

I think $50 sounds outrageous, but when I looked at them and realized it would be a nightmare to cut and sew them all it's probably pretty decent.  I think if someone has the right machine that can cut out the fabric instead of doing it manually it would be easy, but I'm sadly not awesome enough to own that (yet).   However, those are super duper cute and now I want them too!

Edit: if I give it a try this weekend and it's not that bad I'll let you know!

It seems like a lot, but you're looking at a lot of man hours going into those letters and a lot of different fabrics. I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

  • I don't think $50 would be outrageous for a full set of hand-crafted letters like that, but I do love me some overpriced Etsy merchandise.
I love me some overpriced Etsy merchandise too! I wasn't sure if it was one of those things that the sellers price is always $50 and they're just saying it's discounted from $90 or if $50 is actually a good deal. There's a few days left on it so I might just cave and get them.

    Numbers are only $20 a set :)
  • My mom MAY have the machine to do this.  I'll check tonight and let you know because I have plenty of fabric to do it, especially in girl colors.
  • XP from breastfeeding thread.

Question: I'm in the hospital and obv can't feed LO and I'm on meds that aren't safe for him so expressed milk won't matter. I'm concerned about how this will affect my supply. I'm gonna pump and dump every 3 hours for a full 24 hours to clear my system. I'm hoping that'll be enough to keep my supply intact. Is that enough?

Every three hours should be plenty.  Just make sure that your breasts are completely empty each time.  It might be helpful to hand express the last little bit, so you know they are empty.

Alera's being a little nut job today. She rolls into her stomach like it's nothing, then after about 10 seconds becomes hysterical so I roll her back onto her back (she hasn't figured that part out yet). Couple minutes later she does it again. #-o You little dork, lol.

ETA: she's done this six or seven times so far now. O.o
