Aww @ashleyahann good luck today!!! I hope your first day back flies by and you're back at home snuggling LO before you know it. Lots of hugs!
  • This probably belongs in the stupid questions thread, but whatever. I have one of those sound machines that has projections for the ceiling. I am confused as to when I would use the projections. I tried to put it on last night when I put DD in her crib but all the lights seem to stimulate her too much. Should I wait until she is older and can put herself to sleep better? Are any of you using mobiles in your crib as part of a bedtime routine?

@dani+california‌ I'm beginning to get a complex how you never like my posts and skip right through them to like another! [-(

  • Awesome that some of our LOs are getting longer stretches of sleep! DS slept an 8 hour stretch last night, and it was glorious. The flip side is that he barely napped all day, just catnaps here and there. This begins my last full week maternity leave.blah. Looking forward to getting a break from LO but not thrilled about 10 hour days for the first few weeks. At least he takes a bottle now after minimal resistance. For the record, latex nipples were the key.
This is how Emma is. She has been sleeping in 8-9 stretches for a few weeks now, but the trade off is little cat naps all day long. I used to get frustrated, but it is what it is and I'll happily take a full night's sleep!!

  • @cgoldian I turned the mobile on for a few minutes last night. Owen was totally asleep when I put him down, but for some reason woke up and started screaming bloody murder about 3 minutes later. I turned the mobile on and it relaxed/distracted him and he fell right back asleep. I agree that it is usually overstimulating at this point.
  • All the hugs to those going back to work today.
  • @danni+California are you in my house???

We totally call him Heavy P!!!!!

I think my period is just around the river bend, I'm in a glass case of emotion this morning!!!

It's like a car accident I can't look away. So annoyed with DH that he stopped the channel surfing to see what it was all about. Now in sucked in.

We are using it to help him put himself to sleep. So for the past month, we've been trying to get James accustomed to MOTN feedings being just a bottle and diaper change. No play or snuggle time. Sounds kind of mean, but it took us almost the entire first month of his life to get the day/night difference down.

So we change, then feed, then wait like 5-10mins for digestion (i.e. If he spits up, or poops and needs another diaper change). Then it is reswaddle and back in the crib. If he is nearly asleep, we just use the sound. If his eyes are wide open but he is quiet we use the sound and projection. Put it on a timer, then I go back to the kitchen to wash the bottles/pump parts and refill bottles. Then I check on him. If he is asleep, I keep the music on but turn the projection off. If not, I slowly back away and it'll turn off on it's own.

So far we've been having pretty good luck. Every couple nights he'll fuss, so we come back, pop his paci back in and stroke his hair while reassuring him we are here but it's time to sleep. And then maaaaybe once a week he'll cry so then we just take him out, rock him in our arms to calm him, then try the process all over. He's almost 10 weeks, so this is giving me hope that we won't ever need to let him CIO. I'm hoping he learns to enjoy sleeping and put himself back to sleep well before he sleeps through the night! :)
  • @fireflygirl12‌ I like to make different combos out of the jelly beans but you need a lot to choose from! The small bags are only good for eating one at a time but seriously, who does that?

Add me to the backwards sleep club. Last week was all 5-7 hours and starting Saturday we're back to 3 hours. Of course she does this when my first day back at work is tomorrow.

On that front I'm a hot mess today and I keep crying looking at DD. I know I'm not a regular around here and I feel like I'm being too sensitive but I'd appreciate any good thoughts sent my way. This is way harder than I thought it would be :(

Awww, I'm not looking forward to that day either :(

DS woke at 5am to feed.  I got up and fed him and I thought I got him back asleep so I put him back in the bassinet.  I get in the shower.  DH comes in and says LO is awake and chattering away.  Aww cute. So I get out of the shower and DH is snoring while LO is wide awake staring at the ceiling.  :-/

I'm running early so I pick up LO and put him in bed to cuddle a little and DH is like WOAH what are you doing I"m sleeping.

I'm not cool with DH intentionally sleeping knowing LO is awake but I kept my mouth shut to avoid a fight.  Then I start second guessing myself like maybe this is ok.  Am I being irrational or is this not cool?

I wouldn't be okay with that either. I feel guilty when she's awake and I try to watch a show or something. I feel like we need to interact with her most of the time she's awake, so sleeping would be a big no-no to me. Plus, what if they spit up or poop or something?

Apparently, the 2 straight hrs of screaming last night was worth it - DD slept 8 hrs! I am in shock! Of course I only got about 5.5 cuz DH and I stayed up for some quality time, and then I woke up early from exploding boobs and had to pump but still. I'm pretty pleased :)
Hugs to all of you dealing with with sleep regression - we did that last week. It sucked majorly, but it does get better!

Why is it that if a baby is fussy that everyone assumes they are hungry?!

Because duh: babies only eat that's all they do. :|

And I'm on the other side of the coin. She won't die if she poops and it goes unnoticed for a little while, same for spit up. If she needed something she would cry and wake up DH.
5am is too early for interaction for me. That's very much still sleeping time. For everyone.

This. She can lay awake in bed all she wants. She is safe and content watching the fan or mobile or whatever. She could poop/spit up in her sleep...i'm not going to lay awake waiting for it! Im going to keep sleeping!

  • You ladies are so sweet! I appreciate all the pep talks.

DD and I went grocery shopping and she smiled at me the whole time. Now we're home and I have no plans to put her down until DH gets home and I have to cook.
  • Watching "we the people" court and someone is suing another for using their breast milk to make I've cream in their restaurant...
  • That all makes sense. I know I wasn't the one who posed the original question, but I'm just paranoid that something is going to happen that I could have prevented if I had been awake to see it happen. Sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night while she's still sleeping and have the urge to make sure she's still breathing or that she's okay, and I have to convince myself just to go back to sleep because I can't be worrying about that every single time I wake up (I've woken her up a couple times because I panicked about those kinds of things). It's just one of my FTM hang-ups I guess, that and the feeling of needing to interact with her constantly while she's awake. :-S

  • Oh, lord. The decision to stay at home for a year or finish my last year of school is tough. I feel like a total dirtbag either way! How do you decide?
  • @SLSchuerg‌ I check on her when I get bad feelings, too. If you listen to my mom that never goes away; she used to check on us until we were old enough to be up later than she was. Big I figure as long as they're somewhere safe - pac n play, crib - unless they learn how to fly, they're too little to have anything happen that wouldn't happen when they were awake. Although, maybe @MamaFantastic's recent experience would give lie to this.

If you stay home can you finish school the next year? That would be the deciding factor for me.

I can but the issues is hoping my DH doesn't get relocated for work. Andplusalso, I should've graduated in 2012 but due to DHs work I've had to put it off and/or re-do classes because of transfer issues. I feel like I'm on a slippery slope but we aren't 100% comfortable with daycare at this young age.
