Hey y'all, I'm trying to remember if this was covered because I ended up having a May baby and I'm behind most of you! DD is 6 weeks and all of the sudden seems very drooly and blows bubbles. Is this part of a leap? WW says she should be starting one and she is cluster feeding like a champ and super fussy the past few days. Any correlation or just growth spurt?

My DD is 6 weeks on friday and just started doing the same thing! I am curious too.
Normal, right about now is when baby starts producing more salivia than they can swallow....only place to go is out! I've been calling my LO Captain Bubble Beard lately.
~Missed MC at 8 weeks. D&C at 12 weeks on 4/17/13~
LO gets his shots tomorrow. Someone suggested I give him Tylenol BEFORE his shots to preemptively counteract any fever or pain he might have after. Thoughts?
We never gave DD Tylenol before or after her shots. It took maybe 5 minutes to calm her down and she was fine the rest of the day, other than tenderness on her thighs so we just avoided them. I know every baby is different, but that's how it worked for us. I also wasn't that concerned over how she would react because she did receive the HepB vaccine in the hospital and her reaction to that wasn't bad. Also, a low grade fever (99-ish) can help the vaccine be effective, and her temp never went above that.

My pedi suggested to wait until after. Giving before could affect the effectivness of the shots. I gave DS some when I got home. He was crying and it was very clear he was in pain.
So HDBD has me wondering and a little nervous. My LO is 11 weeks and we do tummy time a few times a day. However, when I lie her flat on her play mat she seems to have a hard time holding her head up! She seems to have good head control when I put her on the boppy or while holding her. But on the play mat she has some difficulty. I will be asking my pediatrician about it but wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experiences?

We did tylenol after when she was uncomfortable and had a low fever. Next time i wont wait, i will give her the tylenol as soon as we get home.
LO has grown 3in in two months. If this keeps up she will reach the height limit for the infant car seat by 6mo. Is that normal? Does height/length growth start to slow down like weight? I assume it's all different depending on parents height. When does the average baby no longer fit in the infant car seat?
Does anyone find it weird when their LO doesn't pee during a long sleep stretch? Mine just slept 6 hours and did not wet. She ate and still didn't. She is laying in her crib right now and I keep checking but no pee. Is that normal? I'm hyper aware regarding dehydration since she was hospitalized for it at 4 days thanks to my milk not coming in and no one recommending supplementing even though she had only one wet diaper in that time period. Its stresses me out!!! She has plenty wet during the day, just not often super wet. Just obvious thanks to the blue line. She's 8 weeks.

It really depends on the baby -- Growth does eventually slow down but generally not until 12-18 months (you can Google images of the infant growth curve for a visual). We switched DD to a convertible at 9 months; she hadn't outgrown the infant seat but we could tell she was uncomfortable and would much prefer riding more upright. We'd also stopped taking the seat out of the car at that point -- it gets way to heavy to lug around much after a while.
DS is much taller than DD -- I anticipate him outgrowing the infant seat around 6 months or so.
Cross post from RTT. 2+ moms. What the fuck are you supposed to do when both kids are level 5 crying. Sick toddler plus baby who just got shots is not a good combo. They both woke from their nap at the same time and screamed. I tried to hold them both but toddler would kick if baby was there. And if I put LO down she purple cried so hard she started choking. That was a rough hour. I got the baby sleeping and the toddler playing in a dark room (light is giving him headache). So glad it's over. Tips for next time!?!
I go with whoever seems to have the easiest fixable problem -- usually this is the toddler. Even if she's still upset and needs some more attention, I can usually distract her for long enough (snack! stickers! in the most dire of situations: watch a video on my phone!) to take care of the baby, and then circle back to her.
if they dont wet for 6 hours you should call your pedi.
Thank you. I can't believe I didn't know that. She just peed but I am calling anyway. I don't have an appointment until 7/2 and I want to make sure she doesn't want to see her before that.

I don't agree. It is very normal for a child to not pee while sleeping. My son used to sleep 10 hours at night without peeing. When he woke up in the morning within 10 minutes that thing would be filled. Doc said normal.
My kid does this. She slept 6 hours and woke up with a clean diaper. As soon as I start to feed her she pees/poops.
My doctor hasn't called back. She hasn't had a really wet diaper but 2 minimally wet diapers and one medium wet for her. I bottle fed her 2.5 ounces for one feeding and am BFing every 2 hours. She has had two large poop diapers. I just keep checking and waiting for the doc. I hate this part.
My girl never pees when she sleeps at night either. She can go 6 or 7 hours without a wet diaper, easy.
She pees and poops when she's fully awake, I never thought that might be a problem. She pees like a racehorse during the day, so I fully assume it's normal.
At what age do you think it would be safe to have a lovey in the crib? My daughter has grown attached to her little bear blankie and she uses it in her swing and car seat but I've been hesitant to put it in her crib at night..
I finally had to call a friend who is a pediatric nurse. Unfortunately I didn't hear from my doc. I will be calling first thing tomorrow morning. She started peeing a lot and soaking diapers with the eating every 2 hours. She said that in her experience as long as they were coming regularly and reaching at least 6 per day she should be fine. She also told me to watch for dry mouth and sunken fontenelle. She's been drooling like crazy.
She did it again last night and peed within a few minutes of waking up. This girl is going to drive me crazy!! Thanks for the support. I was pretty upset yesterday.
While the AAP doesn't recommend that babies sleep with plush loveys until they're 1, Ari Brown, M.D., coauthor of Baby 411, says it's okay once a baby is 6 months old, with these caveats: The stuffed toy is a small one (no bigger than the size of her head) and has no removable eyes or buttons. Your baby should also be rolling over and moving around on her own.
Baby 411 is my Bible.
I started putting a breathable lovey (the a+a Issie security blanket) in DD's crib when she was 8 mo. I wouldn't feel comfortable with anything in the bed aside from a swaddle until baby can roll both ways really well.
And while I may agree that babies can't really become emotionally attached to an object at this age, I definitely think they have preferences and can be attached to something in the sense that they sleep better with it, etc. We have 2 Wibbanubs -- a horse and a Bevo. Same exact paci attached, but DS has an obvious preference for the Bevo -- it's softer and he strokes it and hugs it in his sleep. No, he's not "sad" if I take it away, but he naps better when he has it!
So this may have been discussed already but I am on my phone and can't seem to find anything. Last night DS rolled onto his side! He stayed there for a couple minutes and rolled back to his back. Are you supposed to still swaddle his arms in when they can do this? Thanks!
This is a really stupid question... Are you suppose to rinse off a baby after bathing them with baby soap? We have been but I was talking to someone and it came up and she said you don't have to. I'm not sure if it makes a difference what kind of soap you use but we're using aveno right now. We use Burt's bees occasionally.
I might be missing something here, but if I rinse soap off of myself then why wouldn't I rinse it off my kiddo since her skin is more delicate than mine? *confused* Is there a reason people wouldn't rinse their LOs?

I always rinse baby. Didn't know it was a thing not to.
So here's my stupid question for today. The lc at my breastfeeding class said 1-2 alcoholic drinks per day was fine for most people, no need to pump and dump. I've been living by that rule and have a beer almost every night. I was out to eat the other night and got a beer. I drank 16-18 oz or so (it was a 22oz beverage but I didn't finish the whole thing.) I definitely felt it but didn't have much more than a pint so I decided to test just to see. Test strip was a definite positive so I didn't feed. Waited a half hour or so to pump when I felt mostly normal again. I tested the milk I pumped with another test strip and it had a bit of color change in the corners. The directions say any color change at all should be taken as a positive. So I dumped it. Last night I drank an Angry Orchard and felt completely normal. Tested my milk for kicks and the color changed slightly around the edges again. I feel so conflicted. They say if you can drive you can nurse and I felt normal (ciders aren't even that strong) but my milk tested positive. Now I worry that I've been giving LO alcoholic breastmilk every night. Has anyone else had a positive result after only one drink?

How old do you say LO is? Weeks don't equal months so which is it? LO is 11 weeks today and will be 3 months on July 7. Almost as confusing as months pregnant!
I stopped saying weeks when she was 1 month. I stop saying months when they turn 1.
Just to be clear I assume we mean rinsing off the soapy water not the soap itself. I mean of course you would rinse off the soap after lathering them up. I also rinse off the soapy bath water but know people who don't.
Ooooooo I see. Then no I don't rinse DS.

This is probably a (yet another one of my) stupid question(s), but here goes: We are leaving for a trip (flying) Wed-Sun. At our destination we are staying in a hotel. I EBF but have to pump twice per day (first thing in the AM & right before bed) due to large supply. I have been freezing the output of these two pumps for my stash.
I am taking my pump with me. I do not want my supply to adjust really anymore than it has (it's gone down a good bit with concerted effort to adjust it). I am comfortable with these two pumping sessions each day. My question is, I guess on the road I don't have much choice but to pump & dump this, right? I mean, is there any good way to bring it home? Or is that more trouble than it's worth?
The thought of dumping that much milk does pain me, but if it's unavoidable so be it. TIA.

Will you have a fridge in your hotel room? If you can keep the milk cold enough (mini fridges are warmer than normal fridges so make sure it really is good and cold if that's what you have), you can pack it on ice in an insulated cooler and fly it back with you. I did this a few years back with DD when we were in Mexico for 4 days.
So I feed LO Enfamil Newborn and we will be transitioning to the Infant when I am done with my current samples. I have 3 cans of Enfamil Gentle-ease and am wondering if it would be okay to feed her that until it is gone before switching her to the Enfamil Infant? My hubby doesn't want it to go to waste but I don't want to cause any tummy issues. What would A14 do?
We've successfully transitioned LO from the bassinet to her crib! But now that she is such a mover, she gets her legs caught in the open slots. I know bumpers are a no no, has anyone had luck with those mesh breathable ones? Safety first of course, but those little legs always find their way to the slots!

It's a life saver. LO had gotten an arm and then a leg stuck and woke up wailing so we popped that on in a heart beat. It's great!

I would love an answer to this also. I have never tested my milk before feeding. I usually have 1-2 beers a night, and I space them out over a few hours.

So.... Exactly how long is this whole yellowish discharge supposed to stick around? I'm 10 weeks pp and still dealing with it. I hate it and am uncomfortable.
I tried searching to see if this question has been asked but didn't find anything ... I think the new update is screwing with me.
I EBF but am thinking about giving LO a formula bottle once a day so I can add to my freezer stash for when I go back to work in a month. I'm not sure if I should just jump right in and give her a whole bottle of formula or start off at 50/50. Also - do I mix the two together if I do 50/50? I feel so lame - I have no idea!!
