Springs 1, there is a huge difference between getting what you want for your money in any reasonable sense, and believing that the person paying is the only person with a valid opinion.
Do you really not see a difference between
1) respecting servers and sommeliers as having valid opinions about the food that they serve night after night, especially, in nicer restaurants, having been educated on that food by the chefs,
and
2) believing that the only opinion of value is the one that dictates that most food must be served with ranch dressing, and anyone who questions that belief is outside their place, even if their place is to recommend what is best with regard to food and wine?
Even if you reject the opinion of the server and request something different, it is petty to completely dismiss the fact that his or her opinion may be of value.
She sure does like to throw around how much her money entitles her to get exactly what she wants. And how she is entitled to act and tip however she wants. That's kind of true. These restaurants are also totally entitled to refuse her service at any time, and I am thinking she probably experiences that all the time since she is a fucking nightmare for a business. Maybe this is why we have such a giant chip on our shoulder? Gah, take a Xanax, lady. And please go work in a restaurant for a week. Wait, no.. Don't.
I would GLADLY, in the most dire straights of brokenness, and in the most polite way possible, tell this lady to take her HARD EARNED MONEY to another fine, ranch soaked establishment. Not every customer is right, not every customer is desirable, or beneficial to a business.
Ok, I'm going to edit my post with the link just in case it violated TOS. I don't think it did, because there was no identifying information, but still.

Oh also I would like to point out that one of the things that you keep saying is "bad service" is when a server doesn't write your order down. Some restaurant don't allow their servers to write orders down. It is supposed to show exceptional service that they take your order, repeat your order back, and then go put the order in the computer. This is not always bad service. Like others have said, I don't think you have been to an upscale restaurant before.
I wonder if she even works, or if her HARD EARNED MONEY comes from her hubs? If she does, can we all go take our money to her workplace and throw a giant effing tantrum about what our money entitles us to? And dock her pay when she doesn't perform to our standard? How about have a conversation with her boss with the malicious intent to have her fired? I mean, servers are no better or worse than she is, so she should absolutely be held to the same standard of accountability to strangers that should effect her livelihood.
I wish the biggest thing I had to worry about in life was ranch dressing.

Buwhaha @springs1 found you. God help you. She is EVERYWHERE on the Internet to argue about any & all service she has ever had in her life. When I started lurking on TN I saw epic threads about this poster & tipping.
The woman appears to be a BSC Energizer Bunny. MOAR RANCH & THE SERVER SHOULD MIND READ!!!11! Eleventy!!!!11111
Omfg I'm laughing sooo hard now that I'm crying. I had to catch up but this is just TOO good! My hubby has a ranch addiction but only tends to put it on things like salads... I don't think we've ever stiffed wait staff for forgetting ranch.
But I guess that's ok--we can switch to Plan B and bring our own bottle, I guess?
I'm really intrigued. Apparently we are in the presence of an internet legend.
@springs1 please tell us more about yourself. What are your interests besides ranch dressing and complaining? Are you really married? Do you have kids? Where do you live? Can you post a picture of yourself?
Dancing, singing karaoke, watching tv, bowling, swimming, playing pool, etc. I am married since 2002. I don't have kids, don't want any because I LOVE my FREEDOM not having that type of responsibility and I NEVER want to be FAT EVER, EVER, EVER! Louisiana. I don't have a facebook account or (ANY) picture on the internet. If I would, don't you think I'd get spit in my food for sure or even possible murdered even or attacked? I don't have ONE picture on the internet, NOT ONE! I also think it's pretty creepy to have that. I have pictures of people that they don't even know I have pictures saved them in MS Word. I have also posted that picture of that Red headed lady at a Chili's on a bunch of forums When you post a picture or a video online, look out, you could be on World's Dumbest videos or made fun of or your picture messed with such as making you look fat when you aren't or people say things about your picture that you look fat or looks like you gained weight. I had 2 people at the donut shop/diner I used to work for off and on between 1998-2002 tell me I looked like I gained weight, which was LITERALLY(my parents had a doctor's scale), 3 pounds. I mean WOW, that hurts and it STILL HURTS TO THIS DAY they told me something. I couldn't handle having a facebook account with pictures even if I didn't have this hobby, because SOME JERK would say something mean maybe someone from high school or a co-worker, etc. I know someone would end up saying something mean. Also, some people are jealous. If I had a facebook account, I would have loved to post wedding pictures and our wedding video, but people are jealous as far as even if they are married, maybe they didn't get the big wedding we did. Maybe they are a chunky or fat, I was only 92-93lbs when I got married(now currently keep my weight around 98lbs-99lbs). I could just see people saying something mean. My point is, NO WAY I'd *EVER* put ANY PICTURES on the internet. Also, x-boyfriends I don't want them around and never had contact with past loves. That's awkward to me and just weird. Just because they hurt me at one time in my life that they aren't a nice human being. That's why when I did personal ads on the internet before I met my husband, I NEVER posted ONE picture of myself on my profile. It had to do with it was embarrassing that I couldn't meet someone myself, but I was always too shy to just go up to someone to ask them out.
Anyway, my point is, I don't have ONE picture of myself and NEVER will post one, no matter if I did this hobby or not, I still would not have facebook or instagram. I could just see someone saying you gained 4 pounds or some shit like that. I can't take that. It HURTS when people say things about your weight, because weight is hard to lose. It would be easy if you wouldn't get hungry, you could just say you wouldn't eat, but it's not like that. It's really hard.
Hahaha I have no idea how this topic warranted such intensity. If she doesn't mind bring her own bottle of ranch to a restaurant then why bother asking for five sides of it? Problem solved.
FWIW, if I want bacon crispy and perfectly golden brown fries to go with my perfectly pink medium steak?
I cook it myself. And then I tip myself a full 25%. And then I pour out five servings of ranch dressing for husband because he loves sauce, too.
Edit: maybe I should open a restaurant??!?!?!!
That's you. I am not a cook. Even if I were one, I like being out. I spent a huge chunk of my life not being able to go a lot of places like I lived more of a sheltered childhood. I never went to a ballgame until 2004(I am 36yrs old right now). I never and probably will never go in an airplane. I never have been to disneyworld or disneyland. Before I got married in 2002, I had only gone to Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee, no other states or any other countries. So yeah, I like just to get out the house. I just don't like cooking and I am not good at it anyway. I would say in general most people don't like sewing, that's why they go buy clothes at the mall instead of buying patterns, material, and thread, etc. to make their own clothes. I don't see the difference in that than not cooking honestly. Some people get car washes at a gas station, which that's something you can do yourself too. Just saying nothing wrong with not liking a certain activity.
Wow. Feeling sorry for all of us fat, shackled women here on A14 right now! You do realize this is a message board for PREGNANT women, right? Ones who are gaining weight for a reason and don't consider having children to be losing their freedom? Because I would have sworn that you posted on the Bump and not some random message board about waitressing.
@Springs1 How do you stay so THIN??? Please tell me your secret! All I eat are lean proteins, lots of baked veggies, and whole carbs. I watch my portion control and still am bigger than I'd like. Looking at your posts, it seems like your food groups are bacon and ranch dressing and all manner of sauces and fried foods. I'd love to eat all that and eat out all the time (I mainly cook at home - hidden calories and sodium, you know!) and stay so tiny! Although even at my smallest I was never under 100 pounds after puberty. Please oh please tell me the secret to eating crap to excess and staying thin! If it doesn't involve your fingers and a toilet you could be rich!

Hahaha I have no idea how this topic warranted such intensity. If she doesn't mind bring her own bottle of ranch to a restaurant then why bother asking for five sides of it? Problem solved.
No, because first off, everybody's ranch *TASTE* VERY DIFFERENTLY. That means I don't like everyone's ranch.
Second of all, most restaurants give that stuff for *FREE* so WHO would be NUTS to *PAY* for ranch when it's freaking FREE?
Thirdly, why go through the trouble and embarrassment of bringing your own when you don't have to?
SO NO, the problem is not solved. Also, you can't get restaurant ranches at the store in most cases. I don't know any store that sells Chili's ranch or Red Lobster's tartar sauce or Red Lobster's ranch, do you?
PS- Springs1 seems disturbingly fat-phobic. For someone who drenches their shit in ranch & eats out a lot you'd think that wouldn't bother them as much.
Also, you can be skinny & still have a damned heart attack after eating out way too often. You might want to look into your BP & cholesterol @springs1. Might explain why you are so angry.
Food for thought. :-?
Yes, I absolutely meant that pun. You can dip me in ranch & call me Shirley.
It sounds like you might have some self esteem / control issues that manifest themselves with food. I hope you can work through them.
I have control issues due to being controlled that I couldn't go here, I couldn't do this or that because it was too dangerous such as a party that had fireworks when I was 15yrs old my parents didn't allow me to go to it(more my dad). I wasn't going to do them, just watch, but my dad was super OVERPROTECTIVE. I couldn't go to the school dance without a chaperone throughout the entire year of 7th grade which I thought was ridiculous, because it's a school event, not a date and I didn't have a boyfriend. So I didn't attend any dances in 7th grade due to I would have been so embarrassed that my parents would have had to come and then to know they would have been watching me would really make me feel like I couldn't be myself.
I also have control issues with my weight due to most likely getting made fun of in school even though I was never fat, still got made fun of. People picked on me about anything like calling me a nerd, a goodie goodie - I made perfect attendance some years and made good grades in general as well as didn't get detentions, etc.
So I off and on since a teenager watched my weight. I never let myself get fat. I always try to eat less when I see I gain a pound or two or three. I weight myself everyday and have been doing that since I was around 15yrs old or so.
It's not about self esteem, because I feel I look good(not beautiful, but at least pretty or even sexy at times), it's about NOT GETTING FAT and BEING MADE FUN OF! At my high school reunion in a couple of years, I don't want them to say "Springs1 got fat", because I want them to say "Springs1 looks just about the same and looks good." THAT is what I want them to say. I also would not like the way I would look if I were to be fat. It's embarrassing as well. I don't EVER want to get fat.
Also, you can't get restaurant ranches at the store in most cases. I don't know any store that sells Chili's ranch or Red Lobster's tartar sauce or Red Lobster's ranch, do you?

Yoyo dieting every week. Friday eat less than 500 calories for the
Saturday splurge day. One or two days a week, eat less than 1,000
calories. I do this so I can get off the weight I gained over the
weekend. It works. You catch the weight at 2-3 pounds before you gain
anymore. Once you get off the diet track and skip, you may not get
back. The biggest I have ever gotten was 106lbs for a brief time in 1999
due to I was not dieting at all and I was at the dorm studying sitting a
lot(in class and studying). I am ONLY 5 feet ZERO inches tall, so that
is a HUGE reason why I am the weight I am too. I am short.
It all has to do with how many calories you eat in a day to lose weight. Didn't anyone ever teach you that?
Back in some of my college time(18yrs old to 21yrs old), used to go 4 days with a huge dieting eating nothing but around 300-400 calories a day for each day 4 days a week to splurge the other 3 days. I did that from 1995-1997. It worked. I got to binge eat, not throw up(only twice I overate so much I got sick, but as I said, this was when I was really YOUNGER(I am 36yrs old now). I have NEVER did the make yourself throw up thing. I'd rather be fat than throw up. Throwing up is one of the worse feelings in this world.
As I said, I got out of it around 1998 the fall going back to college after sitting out for the spring and summer, then beginning of 1999 I was 106lbs. Didn't do so well with the major I chose, so I had to withdraw, sat out for a year and half, went to another school, got an associates degree. During the time I sat out, got back to 93lbs because I was on my feet all day at the donut shop/diner and I cut down my portions like when I was 106lbs, I was eating 3 poptarts for breakfast, then I slowly cut down to 2, then to one. Things like that I cut my portion sizes down. Then when I went back to school again, I ate just breakfast and lunch, but a normal sized breakfast like I said ONE poptart or waffle. Then a normal sized lunch. No dinner. That's why I was less weight. After I got married, I started back up again with the dieting, but did it some days here or there during the week. At times, I have had my blood sugar go too low to where I saw black. I had to eat sugar to get back to feeling right. In 2009, I had some constipation issues from switching bc pills(due to insurance) since that's the only thing that changed so that to me, was the cause, that's how I got to 98lbs. I try to stick with that number. Sure sometimes I have gotten to 101lbs once in a while, but I always get back. Every week it's knowing I have to get back to my weight so I won't be fat and so I can fit my clothes. I also don't want to be said I got fat either. I want to look good.

Please no one actually take this dieting advice. Yo yo dieting never works. Weight comes back, you have to lose it again, repeat process. Hence the name. Eating deep fries food and unhealthy stuff then starving yourself is NOT healthy. There's too much in this post to even touch on it at all. I just hope nobody reads this and actually thinks it's good advice. Horrible.

That's how you all feel. I bet you feel that way when you want sleep or get horny or want time for yourself. We all have times when we don't want to do certain things. You can't admit you wouldn't want your children around every moment? There's got to be some time you want for you, be honest now?
This subject is not about pregnancy just because the board is about it.

Horrible.
This subject is not about pregnancy just because the board is about it.
