AKA get a real problem, please.
Giving them a living wage will make them make A LOT LESS MONEY. Especially the majority of servers out there don't claim their cash tips on their taxes or at least not all of their cash tips.
Also, what incentive would they have to give someone 5 refills and many modifications while the other table only needs one and they order as it comes, but GET THE SAME FREAKIN PAY? HOW IS THAT FAIR? I know I wouldn't want the same pay if I worked much harder nor would I feel I deserved the pay I would get to just get 2 pasta dishes and 2 cokes with one refill a piece.
It's not fair if someone gets 20% for doing much more work and not be able to get anymore. That's not right. We have tipped 30% and more before for extremely excellent service. You can't tip that high with a living wage.
@Springs1 Please don't call me - or anyone else - an idiot. It's not nice. I would say did it feel good to get that off your chest, but looking at your track record, apparently it does not.
For the benefit of people on mobile: If you look at 'her' page, the account has existed since 2008, but apparently only uses this account to search for topics on restaurant service and tipping and start drama. First post was in August 2011. Here's a sample of the threads 'she's' posted in:
Almost all of the above posts have some major exclamations about crispy bacon, from skimming her comment page. God help me if I ever get that worked up about pork products. Although bacon is awesome.
Apparently 'she's' fairly well known on The Bump as several posts have been dedicated to calling her out over the years, and we're just the newest casualty to 'her' crazy.
To everyone else: Yes, I just did that. Yes, I am that bored.
@Springs1 I'm very sad thinking about what kind of a life you must have in order to have an account that you only use to abuse servers on the internet. And you've been at it for years! Most trolls get bored after a little bit, but this is some tenacity! You are dedicated to your cause, that's the nicest thing I can say. I agree with PP and urge you to get therapy. Or at least a better hobby. Try reading (books, not forums), or knitting, or puzzles! (Scratch the knitting. Don't want to chance I might run into you at my yarn shop.) Puzzles might be really good for you! Especially if worked on in a nice, safe, white room with cushy walls, where they could bring you all the crispy bacon you could ask for, and you could sit in circle groups in between puzzles and talk about your rage about cup placement and people who tip too well.

I can't speak for LalaMama, but I think she probably assumed that you were ordering a side of ranch with a dish that was at least appropriate to have with ranch, hence her generalization.
Just because a restaurant has ranch for salads, that doesn't necessarily mean that it is appropriate for you to ask for a side of ranch with anything else you might be eating during your visit.
It is reasonable to think that, in a very nice restaurant, one wouldn't ask for a side of ranch with most of their food. It just doesn't fit.
Also, Ruth's Chris is an expensive steakhouse chain. I'm sure there are people out there who consider it fine dining. In my opinion, that's a pretty low standard. I think of fine dining as Daniel or The French Laundry.
WHO cares if *YOUR OPINION* is what is appropriate and what isn't when *I* am PAYING for the food and the service? WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME I CAN'T ORDER WHAT THE HELL I WANT CONTROL FREAK?

My MIL abuses caps lock, goes through bottles of ranch a month, and orders an excessive amount of it when we eat out. She's also wider than she is tall, has adult onset diabetes, and can't walk the five stairs from her driveway to her house without taking a break.
The only thing missing is she is mostly nice, if dismissive, to servers. But we've known her to harbor secret resentments for years, so maybe? The only thing stopping me from calling @Sparks1 "mom" is I'm pretty sure MIL doesn't have the tenacity to troll the internet like this. I'm not even positive she knows how the internet works....

The type of restaurant shouldn't mean the person should suffer with not getting what they want for their money, WHY GO THEN?
Also, what is wrong with it? WHY is it anyone's business or concern?
