Not always. I've learned a lot from having political debates on my other BMB. You can learn about different perspectives and experience opinions from other people's POV, which you might not get when talking about these things with just family and friends.
Now, keeping them civil is another point altogether, but I think we've done a pretty good job so far.

PS: If I say I hated black people because of my beliefs would that also make me not a bigot? Seriously, I'm not trying to pick on you, just wonder if that's what you believe?
I think as an adult if your beliefs are based on how you grew up it is now time to grow up and take your own responsibility for your bigoted or racist beliefs.
I am a grown up. I'm married. I'm an adult. I was raised a Christian. Racism has to do with race not sexual preferences, btw. I would also like to know where people who say healthy is cheaper than not healthy shop. I spend $60 a week on produce alone. That would easily buy a lot of cheap ground meat product, hamburger helper, Mac and cheese, and romen.
do you have a sprouts or a local farmers market? i usually find that produce is a lot cheaper in these places. I can buy a weeks worth of produce for around 20-30 depending on how many extra fruits i get

I judge people that spend tons of money on make up. I know sometimes you need the "good" stuff because its better on your skin and I admit, I used to be that person but now that we are down to one income, I've realized that some of the drug store make up is the exact.same.thing.
Not to mention, Elf make up at Target is actually pretty decent and most of their stuff costs $1. I guess since I'm a bit more frugal nowadays, I just can't justify spending $100 on 3 things of make up that you're just going to wipe off later.
I LOVE elf makeup! There mineral mascara is amazing!!

If you don't want to participate in political or social debates, you are welcome to skip over the post or post an UO that isn't as controversial.
As for my bigoted comment, I don't take that term lightly, and I can almost always see the opposite point of view on other hot button issues, even if I don't agree...but not on this one. Saying I don't believe gay people should have the right to marry is exactly like saying I don't believe black people should be able to marry white people. There is no rationale that will ever rectify that statement in mind. But you're welcome to try and convince me otherwise.
Hmm hiding behind Christ as a bigot does not make it any better. I am a Christian and am a gay marriage supporter. Please tell me which of the following
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations.
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?
6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?
7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
Disclaimer this is not mine, I copied it. That being said please tell me those of you who use the bible to stand behind your bigoted beliefs do you live by these verses too?
Who said you were racist. The definition of bigot is as follows: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices
I think as an adult if your beliefs are based on how you grew up it is now time to grow up and take your own responsibility for your bigoted or racist beliefs.

I hate it when people bring babies on red-eye flights. I think it's totally selfish when there are other options available. Do they not realize that everybody intends to sleep on this flight and that your child may intend to scream the whole time? Not to mention that sometimes I have to go straight to work once I land.
Took a red eye from Hawaii to NYC once, with a SCREAMING BABY next to me the ENTIRE TIME. The mom did not get up once, and it was a 9 hour flight. I've never despised a baby ever, but that day I did.
I wholeheartedly believe in gay marriage. I'm bisexual, and have many lesbian friends who have waited decades to finally have the government recognize their commitment to each other. I also believe in polygamy, but can see how that could easily slide into a sticky mess. So I'm torn - while I don't see gay marriage as opening a "gateway" for other alternative marriages, I do see polygamists using gay marriage as an argument to say "hey, two women or two men can marry, so why can't two women and one man marry?" My opinions are total contradictions.
I have to admit (and please no hate... I had an m/c last year at 7w6d and I'm NERVOUS), each time I see a goodbye post, a tiny part of me is happy because it plants me more firmly on the 3/4 pregnancies that succeed side of the statistic. I feel awful for all those women's losses, don't get me wrong!
I believe in abortion (in most cases), but feel that if one person has two abortions they should be spayed. That alleviates the use of it as "birth control" yet keeps gaggles of kids being born to leech off the welfare system.
I think foster families should be registered like sex offenders on a website. If I'd known the house I was buying was located next to TWO of them, I'd likely not have bought it. The one family is nasty and I have to watch my DD constantly outside or tell her she can't go outside when those kids are loitering in the road. (With that said, the other family is WONDERFUL and I love their kids!).
Fire away! Lol the foster one was more of a vent than anything. The mother pisses me the eff off. But I only have experience with these two families, so my UO is not based on a proper sampling. It could be greatly skewed and I recognize that.
It is my opinion that everyone should be required to clean public toilets for a week, just so they realize how much it sucks to clean up after messy people. I also think they should be required to work behind a counter so they know how much it sucks to serve asshats, customer service people are not your punching bags people.
Why is it that women always pee ALL OVER the toilet seats?!
when they are completely capable of getting a job, bc its tax payers money, and I live in Atlanta and see it everyday.
I don't like expensive makeup either.
I also think this is an assumption for many people. Often times people AREN'T able to get a job. That's why they need assistance from the government.
And, unless you work in a system where you are working with disadvantaged people day in and day out, you don't really see it.

So fucking true. I do not ABSOLUTELY do not understand why the opposition cares so much.
Bc we're allowed to care.. Once again - free country. Obviously a lot of people care bc only 13 states out of 50 have legalized it. Georgia not being one of them. Funny though, the Bible was used massively in the argument against women's suffrage. So, your right to vote is pretty unbiblical. Your husband should be the only one voting for your family.

I just don't understand because it does not affect you directly. Marijuana can affect you because of people are smoking it and it can get into their clothing or your lungs. Gay marriage is a whole different ball game.

I am a Chrisitan but I refer to myself as a "loving Christian." I know too many Christian who judge and it totally turns people off and away from religion. I honestly don't care what the bible says about being gay. It says to love one another and to not judge a hell of a lot more than it talks about being gay. I think we are meant to love one another and not pass judgement. God will judge everyone some day. I don't really know what his true stance is on being gay because the bible was written by a ton of people, thousands of years ago, not by God.
I think everyone should have the right to feel loved.
I am a conservative but I don't think all conservatives are anti-gay marriage. For me, I could care less who wants to marry who, if anything, gay marriage being legalized will boost our economy!
Sorry, the Bible has no place in this argument. If you want to use scripture to rationalize your personal beliefs or the beliefs of your specific religious congregation, fine. But you can't use the Bible to withhold a right from an entire portion of Americans -- thank you 1st Amendment.

You don't have to agree to it. That's fine. I guess, what I'm curious about is this: there are a lot of things I don't agree with (like having 25 babies a la Dugger style for example) BUT it's persons right to chose if they want to do that with their lives or not. So, besides "the bible says it's wrong" reasoning (because we have freedom of religion in this country so not everyone has to believe in what the bible says)...why shouldn't two consenting adults be allowed to marry?
