Re: September Symptoms

  • I selfishly started this because round ligament pain is kicking my butt this week.  Have other STM+ ladies felt that’s it’s been worse the second (or third, etc) pregnancy than the first?  I don’t remember it being this frequent last time.

  • @karmba (oops my bad, I usually start the monthly symptoms) I haven't been getting too many RLP, but definitely more pain in general...have had some general stomach/uterine cramping in the evenings and also what feel like a runners cramp/side stitch pains in different parts of my belly all throughout the day.

  • I still have high energy which is great, but I’m pretty sure I’ve been having Braxton Hicks contractions every once and a while (one happening currently)

@karmba I had the pretty bad the first time in the beginning this time they have stuck around longer.
  • The little one has decided that it loves to camp out right up under my rib cage. Which means it is constantly kicking me in the most uncomfortable places and it feels like a rock. It just does not want to be anywhere else!
  • @karmba Yes, RLP is more frequent for me this time. I try to do a lot of stretching and massage. I usually notice it while walking.

@conni0205 So much this! Braxton Hicks starts for me much much earlier this time! I feel them for a short while at least a few times per week.

Overall, I feel really good and can't complain though! I am able to stay active and am pretty comfortable, which I am grateful for.
  • @conni0205 and @gingkomama I third the earlier start of Braxton HIcks.  I read that they can be triggered by a full bladder...which is pretty much all the time these days.

I've also been having really bad lumbar pain - anyone else?  I've tried adding pillows when I sleep but it hasn't helped much.  The brace I ordered arrives today, so fingers crossed!
  • Charlie horses in the morning. 🦵🏽  quite a rude awakening.   Once incollege I got one and had know idea what to do and it just got stuck for a while then my calf was super sore for days.   At least now I know to flex my foot back and not let it my toes point forward so no lasting pain but it really freaks me out!

    @conni0205
maybe I’ve been getting Braxton Hicks but i have  no idea really. It’s painful but feels like baby is squeezing everything up and makes a big lump at the top of my womb for a minute or two. 🤷‍♀️ Is that it?
  • I’ve been having really bad RLP, which sucks when combined with my existing arthritis 😒 Also peeing all the time.

As far as I can tell, I’ve only had BH once, but I hope it eases up for those of you having it ☹️

@autumn87654321 late last year, I started getting really bad Charley horses every night. I talked to our pharmacist and they suggested trying a potassium supplement. It helped, which is great, but I’d still check with your doc before adding anything new!

  • Magnesium should help with cramps and Charlie Horses too! I have a magnesium drink every night before bed - it’s like a powder that you mix in with hot water and drink like a tea. My midwife recommended it because it also helps with sleeping and anxiety and is apparently really good for pregnant women.
  • @laurenspdx. I was going to suggest Magnesium as well.  I was taking it pre-pregnancy for anxiety (not sure if it really worked or not for that), but it has been helpful with leg cramps during pregnancy.  When I was having more morning sickness, I would skip that pill (just hard to choke down all those pills) and then suffer without it.  Learned that one the hard way...don't skip it.  What is the magnesium drink that you are enjoying?  That might be a great trick to know as well.  @autumn87654321 I would check with your Dr before adding it of course, but might be worth a try.
  • @laurenspdx yes what is this drink? My anxiety seems to be at all time high in the evenings

  • @dobiemom11 @bearmomma1 This is the one I use. I think the brand the midwife recommended was Natural Vitality (but my store didn’t have that one in stock)

  • Thanks @laurenspdx I was thinking of getting some “calm” powder, I’m also very bad at sleeping and get a little stress/anxiety do this sounds good!
  • Earlier this week my left bicep twitched for 2.5 days! No special activities preceded the twitching and it went away on its own.
  • I officially got diagnosed with an inguinal hernia 😩 I had a bariatric patient (500+lbs) trip and almost fall and use my small body as something to steady himself on the other day and I felt a weird pulling in my right groin. Thought nothing of it and saw a lump develop over the next few days. So this means I have to be put on modified work (which I have a meeting with my manager because I’m not sure what that’ll look like) and my GP said my midwife still has to assess me and she may put me off completely. The hernia itself has to be surgically repaired post baby but I’m a little worried about what it means for pushing lol
  • @tryingktogku nnooooooooooo! I hope you're still able to have a vaginal delivery and they don't just recommend a c section. I feel like I know a few women who had hernias while pregnant but usually by their belly buttons.
  • @autumn87654321 definitely Braxton Hicks. I just drink water if they get too bad and that usually helps!
  • @willashbaby Fingers crosses my midwife doesn’t recommend a C-Section I really wanted to try for an “all natural” birth. Only plus to having a c-section would be that they could repair the hernia at the same time and that usually has the best outcomes for it not to redevelop in future pregnancies! Either way I’m sure she’ll let me try and deliver vaginally so long as the hernia stays uncomplicated!
  • @tryingktogku oh crazy! Glad the fall didn't hurt the baby or you more. So scary!

  • @bearmomma1 thanks! Me too! Fingers crossed bubba stays A-OK in there for another three months lol
  • @tryingktogku Oh man that’s awful! That’s so scary that happened at work. Hoping it doesn’t complicate things too much and that you’re not in too much pain!
  • @tryingktogku ugh that stinks! Hopefully it’s not painful? Be good to yourself for the next few months & let others do as much for you as possible!

I am noticing that I’m getting very tired mid-afternoon almost like in the 1st tri, and usually need to just take a break and lay on the couch for 30-60 mins. I can usually push through it, but the yawning and exhausted feeling is excessive! It might have something to do with my continuing middle of the night insomnia which is prob caused by the multiple times I’m having to pee every night.

Also have noticed that bending over is difficult and I can’t breathe well when I do. So putting away, or getting things out of lower cabinets is getting tough.
  • @shelmcclel. Your tired paragraph sounds just like me.  I feel like I wake up, make breakfast, and am ready to go back to bed.  I don't really fall asleep when I lay back down, but do need to rest in the middle of the afternoon.  DH naps during his lunch break and is frustrated that I don't/can't fall asleep after complaining of being exhausted all morning.  It makes me a little nervous for the marathon of delivery and newborn life.

I just started putting things in our upper cabinets in the kitchen.  Like the dishwasher tablets and the cleaning wipes.  We moved the dog food container on top of a bar stool, so I can reach it when it gets close to the bottom.
  • @shelmcclel I've been feeling this same exhaustion the past few days! I don't remember this from last time and I'm hoping it's a fluke as the weather is changing... I can't be this tired for three more months! I went to bed extra early yesterday so hopefully today will be better 🤞
  • @shelmcclel this is my second time and I feel like the first trimester fatigue never went away.  I don't remember being as tired last time.  Part of my problem is my brain doesn't turn off when I want to sleep, so I read - which means it definitely doesn't turn off.  So it turns into an endless cycle of tiredness.  Most of which is my own making...

@tryingktogku I hope you can stay on track for a vaginal delivery!  Or if it ends up being a c-section hopefully they can repair it at the same time and you don't need two surgeries.

  • @tryingktogku - Oh no!!! I hope it doesn't mess with the rest of your pregnancy and birth plans!
  • You can add me to the tired camp. I just can't shake it! I get about 8 hours of sleep but after a few hours of being awake I'm yawning away. This is the beginning of the end!
  • @dobiemom11 and @shelmcclel I’m definitely in the tired/insomnia camp too! I will say that I have had difficulty with insomnia every pregnancy, but after the baby is born it goes away immediately. I’m still tired from the multiple wake ups but I go right back to sleep after. Fingers crossed it will be the same for you!

@tryingktogku Hoping you’re feeling ok, and this doesn’t mess things up too badly!
  • Tired here too, though the last few days I have been sweating all the time. Our house is set at a comfy 72 degrees and everyone else is fine but I could drop another 5 and be fine. The outside weather has been more brisk and I'm loving it, but even that gets too toasty for me in the afternoons.

  • Sleepiness and fatigue is definitely increasing here too! I think it’s mostly from my sleep or being as productive. I’m waking up at least every hour to change positions / because of weird dreams / because baby is moving / to pee, so all that means worse sleep and more tiredness during the day 😕
  • Yes! I've been super tired in the afternoons as well, needing a nap and just ruining being productive when I need to be. Then I can't fall asleep at night because my anxiety kicks up. Then waking up multiple times to pee, roll over, shift. DD woke up at 5:15am this morning...thankfully she fell back asleep after my H brought her to our bed...which she NEVER usually does. But grateful for the extra snoozes.

The sky here in the Bay Area, CA feels like it's 8:00PM at 8:00AM. It's a dark yellow/red/orange and there's ash falling from the sky. Such a trip and feels like we're on another planet. No wonder my dog is losing his mind with this f'd up year we're living in.

  • The exhaustion is real but so is the insomnia. I was up from 2-5am and now I feel like I need a nap ASAP!
  • Oh man, I had some nipple leakage today. I'm not ready for that!

  • @karmba Me too! I've been leaking fairly regular (just drops though) since around 20 weeks.

  • i noticed moving in general and everything is hard now. One day I was fine, the next belly is in the way.  I can’t bend to do anything. My friend took me to this maternity clothing store and trying on clothes was so hard!  Shopping Trying on clothes has never been hard, except trying not to buy too much, now it’s just hard.
  • Am I the only one STILL throwing up? I am so so done with this. Three anti nausea medications and I threw up toast last night #iquit
round ligament pain - so far so good!
I was also diagnosed with an “irritable uterus” - I get Braxton Hicks contractions near constantly and they develop into prodromal labor pretty easily so I have to be careful. 🙄

  • @the_road_to_oz - ughh so sorry girl! I did get pretty nauseous the other day - but it was after kayaking in the hot sun and rough swells for almost 2 hours - so not sure if it was solely the baby, or a bit of sea sickness and exhaustion too.
  • @the_road_to_oz that’s awful to have HG :( as for the Braxton Hicks I get them any time I walk up stairs or too fast or do any sort of exercise lol so trying to rest more which is difficult! Do you get them just resting too?
  • I’ve woken up 2 nights this week basically chocking on acid reflux.  My heartburn hasn’t been that bad but I guess laying down just let’s it up and then I inhale it  while i’m sleeping and wake up coughing like I inhaled spit, but it’s not  spit 🤮

I guess I  have to be careful and not eat at night or something and have a tums or something before bed 🤷‍♀️
