I’m having an emotional and mental breakdown over here. My state isn’t terrible yet, but I feel so depressed and anxious about all of the unknowns. And selfishly, this was a happy time that suddenly just got a big, dark, scary cloud cast over it. I’m terrified to go to work especially reading all of the new guidelines for pregnant women and social distancing, because as a nurse I don’t have that option. And naturally, I’m surrounded by nurses who have been nursing for decades who keep telling me it’s just the flu and everything is going to be fine. If I weren’t pregnant I’d have the same mentality but it’s not just about me. I don’t have any extra time to sacrifice from my PTO because I’m just barely making it to 11 weeks maternity leave with what I have. My only hope is that pregnant nurses will be kept from having covid patients, but none of this has been addressed.
Okay I'm now being the selfish one ... can we have a separate thread for the COVID-19 talk? I usually love reading the randoms thread and seeing what everyone is up to, but these posts have just been making me anxious. I understand some of you are in high risk areas and it is much more pressing than where I am, but my doctor's instructions are what I'm most concerned about right now with the virus and she has told me what my normal life looks like is fine. I'd rather have this thread be what cool and fun things you're finding to do if you can't be working. Sorry, anxiety girl's rant over.

@bluehydrangea17 and @diagonalley I'm a teacher too. It was announced Friday after school that we will be out until April 14th which is the day we were suppose return from spring break. That's 4 weeks. My VP and I are friends and she told me because of the CDCs recommendation of 8 weeks she isnt sure we will be going back this year. 8 weeks is 2 weeks before school gets out and 2 weeks before my due date. We were allowed on campus yesterday to get work together but other than that we are just monitoring our classes from home. My poor kiddos. They were told they dont have to start work until next week and I've had a bunch submit work already because they are so overwhelmed and doing their work helps.

@horsesmeetbaby I could definitely support that. I know I stepped away for a little bit over the c-section fears -- not that the fears and worries voiced here are invalid in any way, just that I need not to borrow that worry right now as I have 13.5 weeks left of managing my high risk pregnancy.
@sheshe3386 I'm a CNM and I am no longer seeing any patients with respiratory symptoms in the hospital and am exempt from working the COVID-19 screening/triage stations and of course would be exempt from caring for a patient with the disease or PUI if we got one on our unit.
@horsesmeetbaby and @kyrwyn Great idea. I made a thread specifically for virus impact stuff.
And hopefully we can keep this thread more normal.
Not that life is normal at all for some of it.
e"learning for my preschooler is hilarious and only sorta working. But trying to keep kids occupied while my husband works from home is a challenge.
Trying to do at least most educational screen time with them. Being up and around all day yesterday trying to do more engaging tasks left me unable to sleep well due to pelvis pain.
But later we have a kindergarten teacher doing a sing and dance along, an at home safari from Cincinnati Zoo, and my local yoga studio put up a mini toddler yoga session! then hopefully just free play until daddy is off work!
I think my 18 month old is learning more than my 3.5 year old. He already knows so much and doesn't like to dance along with videos. But, I got an old phone up and running with some letter and numbers games and big kid is learning how to use a touch screen. Also signed up for free abc Mouse and teaching him how to use the mouse on my computer for that.
Because I'm lame and have never let him try this stuff before.

Some ways to keep the housebound little ones busy: Mo Willems (Elephant/Piggie author) is doing a doodle a day. Cincinnati zoo on Facebook has an animal a day they're visiting and if you catch it while it's live you can ask questions. Many museums offer virtual tours which might not appeal to younger ones, but if you want to see the Louvre... Metropolitan Museum of Art has a MetKids section that's interactive.
@Jessiebride Thanks! We've been doing the zoo thing and a few other broadcasts by teachers and stuff-which we've all loved, but it's been a bit much screen time which has caused some whining from my son.
Tomorrow probably less screen time, unless it's toddler yoga and HE'LL get up and participate instead of just watching like a slug.
Hopefully by mid-next week we'll have figured out how to better balance our days and get into a better routine.
Or we'll take 3 days off all screens. That happens here some times just to reset his whiny screen obsessed self.

We implemented a schedule of sorts today involving activities. It's pretty simple, but something for my boys to look forward to. Mondays are baking, Tuesdays are puzzles, Wednesdays are play dog, Thursdays are painting (ugh...but they will like it :-P) Fridays are games, and Saturdays are building. Sundays are no technology so pretty much anything goes in regards to activities, lol.
Today is my birthday. Dh brought home two bouquets of flowers and got home a lot earlier than we thought he would. I made myself a cake, he made dinner. It was a really good day despite everything. And the perfect end was big bro snugging with little bro 💙💙

Baby shifting and dropped and probably half engaged today. I *think* squid is head down now, but I'll get two separate other opinions tomorrow. Also, my rib pain is but by maybe 90%. But standing and walking has gotten even harder. Maybe this norm belongs in symptoms. Oh well. My point was that baby moved and I'm both more and less comfortable.
Kids actually seemed to sleep right after we put them to bed, so fingers crossed that tomorrow will be easier!
And then we're on spring break, so our routine will get a bit lost. Hoping some lie yoga videos tomorrow and an obstacle course made in our basement helps too.

We've started to pick away at our registry and I'm really excited I ordered a mattress, mattress pad and set of sheets last night and after we get paid next week we'll do the infant car seat. I also got my picture frames for the art we bought for the nursery walls
Normal update things: We continue to make slow progress on DS1's big boy room, which means someday soon I'll get to actually set up the nursery for a baby again. I was hoping to do a deep clean but that probably won't happen. I washed a bunch of hand-me-downs for both boys, and need to fold and sort them today. Getting out teeny baby clothes again makes this new kid feel real. I haven't had a chance to really enjoy waiting for this new baby between toddler parenting, GD, and The Global Pandemic ... So I hope he doesn't come out with a huge list of second child grievances already prepared.
I started a baby quilt for my brother's first kid (due in October). All the other first kids got something pieced and then quilted but my sewing space is currently 6" wider than my machine and literally in my closet so he's getting a Winnie the Pooh panel, flannel backing, batting scraps pieced together, and whatever I can find for binding fabric that doesn't require me to upend my house.
I’m in the process of refinishing a dresser I found on Facebook marketplace and just love for DDs toddler room! It’s fun to have a project to focus on when things get overwhelming!
The back pain is so unbearable today, I’m over it. Massage therapy was the only thing helping at all and now that’s closed indefinitely. I’m sitting here trying to bargain with my unborn baby to get her to stop putting so much pressure on my spine 😅
@alisongem I failed mine with DD (but passed 3 hour) so I was really careful this time. Sugar free coffee, scrambled eggs, a chicken breast, and veggies leftover for lunch (mine was at 1). Baby carrots when I wanted a snack. Passed with flying colors this times!

I started ordering the supplies that I'll need for when baby first comes home - it makes me feel like I'm doing something productive :P Thank goodness for deliveries!
I rejoined our CSA so we'll have weekly fruits and veggies and I only have to interface with one person and not the whole grocery store. 🙌 First delivery/pickup is Thursday! This is my biggest win so far this week.
I'm not sure my body is going to hold up to all day toddler care all the time, no breaks. I have tiny-elbows sized bruises everywhere.
I've gotta find 6 work from home hours today in addition to being full time mom, and managing GD. Bedtime seems so far away and we've only been up for 4 hrs so far.

*** Stuck in box
Same! We've gotten the crib mattress, a set of crib sheets and a waterproof mattress cover. After pay day we're ordering the car seat. Then planning on getting a box or two of diapers and wipes if we can find them weekly
I started to order some stuff online this week since I’m starting to freak out with only 2 months to go, not much done and almost all stores closed! Also baby shower was supposed to be May 3rd but at this rate who knows if that will happen. Here’s what I have ordered so far: diaper changing pad and 1 cover, ivory snow laundry detergent so I can start washing things, a safety/grooming kit, 6 burp cloths, a diaper genie and a diaper bag. Already purchased a stroller a while ago on sale, a basinet stand and a FP swing, 10-15 outfits, a glider, baby scale and breast feeding pillow. Friends and family have also leant/given me: bouncer chair, bucket seat, bathtub with newborn insert, a big bag of clothes, a basinet with 4 sheets, lots of different swaddles, a breast feeding cover and an excersaucer. Plus for freebies I got a bunch of NB diapers and wipes and 1 bottle. Now that i listed it all out I have a lot more than I thought. So that makes me feel better! Just no real progress on the room except for doing a vision board. Looked into wallpaper but too expensive so I might just get some wall stick on decals from Amazon.
@spvern have you thought about doing large framed fabric panels since the wallpaper costs too much? Hobby lobby has lots of beautiful floral fabrics at a great price as well as large inexpensive frames. Just a thought. Sounds like you’ve done a great job prepping for baby! I can’t imagine having my first without a shower.
@horsesmeetbaby I don’t have one but I was considering getting a peanut for both home labouring and then to exercise my dog. So maybe I’ll pull the trigger now and give that a try!
@kjack86 no, I didn’t think of that actually. But that’s a really good idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into it. I mean I pray the baby shower will happen, but at this point I’m really unsure. My friends told me if they can’t have a real one, they’ll do an online one and make sure everything just gets sent to my house. So nice of them cause I’m starting to stress.
Our first CSA box came! After two weeks of avoiding the grocery store, I don't think I've ever been this happy to see lettuce, chard, and turnips. I've made a big pot of curried lentils (my two year old and DH both love them) and I'm excited to have non-freezer veg to cook with!
@spvern 6 burp rags wouldng have lasted me a day with ds. He was a happy spitter but 6 seems like not enough. Also the pretty ones aren't very absorbant. These cloth diapers were our go to! Cheap and worked the best!
Also I hope you can get your baby shower. I'm so sorry for all you ftms ❤️
@kjack86 that’s a great ideA! I’m using this time for redo our guest room for DD and I wanted to do some floral on the walls. I might just do that!
@kyrwyn do you like using the CSA program? I know this is your first box but it sounded like maybe you’d done it before and had stopped for a while in a previous post? I’m just curious because we’ve looked into and never ended up doing so!
At what point do we start talking about a move to a private group or Facebook? We’re getting closer and, with everything that’s going on, I’m starting to feel more careful about what I put on a public forum that’s more specific to me. I’ve never shared my state for example, because I’m still conscious that anyone can see the bump. Just wondering if anyone else was thinking about it yet too.

@alli392 I love this specific CSA. I used them for about 2.5 years, up to when DS1 was born and my startup closed during maternity leave. I'd been meaning to get back in touch with them, but the contact email was in my old work emails and there's never a good time to try and restore a hasty Outlook backup in hopes of finding old contacts. The current groceries situation gave me great motivation!
This particular farm is very flexible. You can order week by week, take a break if you need to, and choose pay in advance (then you get 10 boxes for the price of 9). If you refer your neighbors or friends, they give you extras in your box or an occasional free box. They have two different box sizes (we get a half box, which runs about $35) and while they don't come all the way into my neighborhood, they meet me 10 min from my house. Last pregnancy, they also let me say "no kale!" (my aversion) and would give me extra brussels sprouts, which were my favorite in 3rd tri. It's flat out the best CSA on price and flexibility that I've looked into, but you get what you get and some people like to be more choosy.
I grew up cooking with my mom when we were pretty poor, and so we always ended up using whatever produce was in season (cheapest), so the mystery of what to do with a box full of weird veggies doesn't really phase me. At this time of year, there's a good mix of veggies and a bunch of citrus (not great for GD, but my DS and DH like it and it's easy to regift). I'm adding a picture of this week's box, but we got: a head of red leaf lettuce, half a head of celery, a boy choy, a small cabbage, 5 turnips, 2 zucchini, a bunch of radishes, kale, rainbow chard, a pomelo, an avocado, a lunch bag full of kumquats and blood oranges, one of juicing oranges, and one of tangerines (plus two lemons).
Our early start on meal planning: I started a pot of curried lentils with lemon for dinner using part of the celery and the turnip greens, a lemon, plus stuff I had in the fridge & pantry. We're having that, salmon from the freezer, and the bok choy for dinner. DH wants corned beef and cabbage next week, along with colcannon -- which, in my family, is mashed potatoes with tons of butter and whatever greens we've got (may not be traditional colcannon), so the chard and some kale will go into that. I had tuna salad at lunch with chopped celery and radish for crunch, and used a couple lettuce leaves to bulk it up into a meal. My 2 yr old, who previously hated citrus, has declared tangerines as "farmer friend fruit DELICIOUS" and requested more, and then another one after nap, so I think we'll be okay there too. I'll probably slice the turnips super thin and throw them in salt water to eat as "snacks" since my family doesn't really like them roasted. And I think we've got a bean stew with shredded pork coming to use up some leftovers, and that will take up some of the remaining veg.
My breasts hurt so much today. Like first trimester levels of soreness. What is this? I didn't have this with my first (but I also didn't make any milk when he was born). This plus toddler elbows is brutal and I don't like it.
Still trying to figure out how to move Dh's office into our room and get the baby's room ready for him. All of the furniture we need to move is super heavy so Dh cant do it by himself and I cant really help. Going to place an Amazon order for some of the baby things we need today. This week I've pulled out all of the 0-6 month clothes we have from Ds and am washing them. Along with prepping the newborn diapers I bought. I hate that I want to purge all the things and no place is open to drop it all off at!

Finally had a nice day here and I put some headphones in, blared some music and went for a walk and it felt so DANG GOOD to be out in the fresh air and sunshine. This is the closest to happy I’ve felt in a while!
@runwmusic 6 burp cloths was just to start with. But I am a ftm so I really have no clue! Thanks for the link! Today the burp cloths and the diaper changing pad arrived. Today we also ordered a dresser, an ottoman to go with my glider, a side table to go next to the glider and lamp. So I feel good that we’re finally starting to make progress. Also my FIL is gifting us all of that, so that is super helpful! Starting to stress because it’s coming so soon and this whole crazy situation and now we have a major roof issue we need to get fixed and we might have to have drywall replaced in a few of the bedrooms including baby’s room. But workers aren’t allowed to do any work now, so it might be all around when baby arrives. Extra stress!!
Hi! FTM here. I was wondering (with all this craziness happening)what size/how much baby clothes you are all stocking up on... my shower got cancelled so I’ve ordered sizes newborn-6mo, and got about 10 sleep&plays, 15-20 onesies, 6-7 leggings/pants and a few sweaters/hoodies in each size (less in newborn) we live in an garden style apt building with shared laundry on each floor so I really don’t want to have to live in there too much with all the germies and such. I also have a bunch of Velcro swaddles and sleep bag gown things. Do you think that’s enough? I’m wondering if I should grab 9mo now too... I’m just worried if most clothing items are made in China what’s going to happen? I’m hoping this stuff all sorts over when baby’s due in 10 weeks, but at this point I just don’t think that’s going to be the case. 😣 Thanks!
