Re: May Randoms

  • @zuuls_mom @blitzybee It's sad how common it's become.  I was talking to my boss this morning, who has an 8 year old and 6 year old, and he said that when he tried to talk to them about it they were totally desensitized to it.  Like, yeah, it happens, we have drills for this all the time.  What a sad state of affairs we're in now.  But will the rising frequency have an effect on anything legislatively?  Probably not.

  • @mamaber2204 oh my goodness that is so sad. And you're right, nothing will probably be done. But it's time for something to.

  • @mamaber2204 I almost commented "Neither" but decided against it  :D
  • School shootings are getting out of hand nowadays. But sadly, those in power in the US won’t do jack sh*t about it. Did you see the NZ did after their mass shooting a couple weeks/months ago?? Amazing. And not that those lives weren’t precious (because all lives are) but we couldn’t do anything after the epitome of innocence - kindergartners - were slaughtered in their classrooms. Can’t wait to get these jag holes out of office and start voting in some young blood.

    End rant.

@mamaber2204 I agree that those names are not the best. But I’m too nice to say anything mean. I abide by the “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all” motto for life.
  • @lillywonderland Haha, I wouldn't actually say it to them, but it is what crossed my mind.  :)  I like the Thumper rule, too.  :)
  • @mamaber2204 My dad wanted me to be Monique Desiree and my mom said it was a French prostitute name. I will forever thank her! Maybe the drive by poster will see this and get the hint 😂
  • There are TWO Homeland Security Police Officers on my train this morning.
  • @lillywonderland any idea why??

@nomangos23 I agree with others that you are going to hear all different horror stories. I was literally in such a terrible funk a couple weeks before my due date because I was so horrified of labor from hearing all my friends stories. A few days before I went into labor an old friend of mine posted her beautiful labor story on fb. It was so inspiring to finally read a positive experience. I ended up having a wonderful labor and delivery, so I worried for nothing. Nothing compared to any of my friends. So stay positive. Your body knows what to do, and will do what it’s meant to. Optimism is key! :)
  • @septoctkids I love that. I have been making it a point to read/ listen to all of the positive birth stories! That's all I want going through my head when it is my turn; thinking of all of the strong, capable, brave women who have done this before me.

  • @MsBeachNJ, @kgg2241 No clue why. I’ve seen the police before (checking tickets) but never Homeland Security! Regardless, I felt both safe and uneasy on the morning commute!
  • Would anyone be up for a Healthy Habits check in thread?  I feel like I'm starting to spiral out of control and need to get myself back on track or will end up looking like Jabba the Hutt pretty soon...

  • @zuuls_mom Bianca Jade?  Whew.  That's pretty bad.  You definitely dodged a bullet there!  Good job, grandma.  I mean, who names kids after TV show characters?!  Unless, you know, it's Daenerys or Aegon.  ;););)
  • I was POSITIVE that my husband lost a key to our front door, and was telling him I knew it disappeared while I was out of town. Today I wore my raincoat, and well SHIT, that damned key was in my pocket. I put it back on the hook where we keep it. What are the chances he thinks a fairy just dropped it off???! I can blame the baby for this one, right!?

@RedBreast35 yes! Me! I'm currently resisting the temptation to have cookies delivered. Has anyone ever done this? It's apparently a big thing in Utah now. I need motivation to resist lol.

  • @kgg2241 you have delivery cookies?? That sounds amazing!
  • @kgg2241 Heaven! How are you not ordering all the time?

@cheshyre319 We have one in our town. If they would have had it in my younger days, I would have been ordering nightly.

Edited to say I sadly have never ordered.
  • Ugh, I found a tick attached to the top of my head yesterday. Luckily a dog tick and not a deer tick. Texted my regular doctor and she was not concerned. Still get to monitor for fever, etc. for a few weeks though. I don't know if I missed it on Wed. or if I got it in our yard which we've never had an issue with before. Anyways, why does everything pop up in pregnancy? We haven't had a tick attach to us in like 8 years.
  • @janat1717 blechhhhh to ticks. Those things give me serious heebie jeebies 😖

You guys, this weather is slowly sucking the life out of me. Cold and rain and yuck. Mama needs some sunshine in her life! 🌞
  • Did we ever come to a consensus on when we are moving to a PG? Or do we want to go ahead and get one set up for more... sensitive topics?
  • @janat1717 ugh, I loath ticks.  and I live in Old Lyme, CT.  you know, where Lyme disease was named :-p  Our house is also butted up against 10 acres of woods so we get tons of critters and deer coming around dropping ticks in our yard left and right.  Just gotta be vigilant.  Find a few on us now and then, none attached to me so far but last summer my son had 2 dog ticks attached :-/  And this past Easter he was out barely in the grass for more than 5 min and I spotted a deer tick on his shirt.  I so loath ticks....
  • @janat1717 ticks are the devil. Last summer my son had spots that looked like scabs from a pricker bush all over his neck area. We had been playing outside so I didn’t think much of it. Two days later I examined it more closely and discovered they were not scabs. We rushed to the ER to discover he had rolled in a tick nest. He had to lay there for an hour while the doctor picked out over 200 tiny baby ticks all over his body. They were most densely located at the base of his head and in the folds of his ears. Gave me major heebie jeebies!!
  • @janat1717 ugh, I live in constant fear of ticks! My dog has only had one once and his daycare found and removed it, but they freak me out! I had a big one on my leg once after camping as a child and I'm scarred for life now.
@redbreast35 for real yo. Where you at, sun?!
@cheshyre319 not sure we ever decided on when. I'm down for a PG whenever.
  • @duewithpu2 oh god!  my nightmare!!  poor kiddo!
  • kgg2241kgg2241 member
@duewithpu2 omg. That is so sad! Poor kid!!
  • @duewithpu2 ok, yes, that is terrible. Actually I can't think of much worse that isn't life threatening... I'm glad that didn't happen!!! I was lucky too,and it was a male so no gross engorgement. Of course this morning I cut my finger open with a knife so now I have multiple reasons to eyeball for infection. I probably should just go sit in a bubble for a while.

Maybe 3rd trimester for a pg?

@janat1717  😵 ticks gross me out. One of my biggest fears is petting/scratching my dogs, feeling a bump and discovering it’s a tick 🤢

    @duewithpu2 😱 I would literally die.

Also on the need sunshine train.  It’s May, where is the warmer weather!?!
  • I have a feeling this late spring is going to make for a very long hot September 😩
  • Being giant pregnant in the summer heat never really bothered me that much.  I found being 8-9 months pregnant in the winter far more annoying.  Between the giant puffy coats making you feel all the more giant and it being nearly impossible bending down to pull on your winter boots :-p
