@lappymom2019 I was super lucky with my son to have a boss who let me "work from home" post Csection with my son since I didn't technically have any maternity leave yet. I hadn't been in the position for a year yet. I have always wanted to stay home with my kids but with my son it wasn't an option since his dad wasn't involved from nearly the beginning of pregnancy. This time I'll take my maternity leave and all sick time I have on the books but my husband fully supports me quitting after that to stay home with the kiddos. We do have a bunch of changes possibly happening with the job over the next few months. If it becomes a work at home position, my boss and I have discussed me staying on.
@kvh22 that'll be a long day immediately postpartum and you never know that you'll have the baby on time. I think it's reasonable to skip the wedding given how close it is to your due date.
@megsb615 I'm so sorry for your families loss. I understand the frustration at the family planning services on your husbands birthday. I hope it can still be a special day for him despite everything.
Thanks everyone. He seems to be handling it all fine, and he said he kind of expected something to fall on his birthday whether it was grandpapa passing away, visitation, or the funeral. I also realize the 3 day time frame is pretty typical around here, but I guess it just stings a little more for me because they don’t do anything special for him on his birthday as it is. Not a home cooked meal, taking him to dinner, or anything, so planning the funeral on his birthday seems extra insensitive to me. But my parents always take him to a nice dinner, and I’m having a few of our friends over and doing an oyster roast for him Saturday, so hopefully that’ll brighten things up some for him somewhat. Thanks for the kind words, y’all.
@lovelybabybumpz yea, the wedding is for my friend, not his, though, so he wouldn't go without me. I'd like to go but I don't think it's going to work out unless I have this baby early so I'm recovered which I really hope doesn't happen.
@megsb615 I am so, so sorry for you and your husband and his family. I'm sure it's tough to have that fall on his birthday on top of everything else he's already going through.
@kvh22 We did a wedding when DD was exactly 3 weeks old. It was in town, though, and the couple said that they totally understood if we canceled day-of or left early. The venue was indoor/outdoor with lots of space to walk, so she and I took plenty of breaks outside and away from the crowd, and we left when it switched from "reception" to "dance party". I know that the stereotype is that you feel awful and discombobulated after birth, but I actually felt pretty good. Exhausted, but good.
I basically took the last three days off from the internet. We had such a low key family weekend. DS and I did some crafts and made play dough. He also had his ice skating class Sunday and was able to get around the ice without holding on to DH! And yesterday, we all went to Chicago to go to the Shedd Aquarium!!! DS loved it. He’s still talking about all the fish, turtles, and sharks. Plus we got to have dinner with my dad who lives close by to Chicago.
@expandcontract Of course! There are only 4 of us here in Washington and we have to run two different sites. I'm by myself at a satellite and the other three are together at the main office so I don't want to leave them scrambling. Also one coworker and I have the same due date so we've been discussing plans since we both announced our pregnancies.
@fuscok88 not sure how they'll do backfill but I was one month apart from someone else on my team and they had that person do 40 hours a week split between our two teams. It didn't work great but it was something so that my 8 person team didn't have to pick up all of my duties (some of which are totally different than what they do).
We are having a down day. DD1 is sick, and I’m coming down with whatever she has too. DH is off work so we’ve been camped out on the couch watching a lot of tv today. DH was watching Ice Road Truckers and on the show they always post the temperature where they are in Fahrenheit (I think the show was produced by an American network). But we were totally calling bull shit on the temps. They have to be exaggerating to make it seem better. One girl driver had to get out of her truck to throw chains on when she got stuck. That’s not a quick, 3-4 min job and the screen says its -38*F. But she jumped out with just a hoodie (hood up) and gloves to chain up. Then the next guy is running around with a vest over his short sleeve t-shirt. You can see all his tattoos, no toque or gloves. They claim it’s -45*F. No bloody way. There isn’t anyone who is so accustomed to the cold that they can handle -40+ temps like that, especially with bare skin exposed.
@eatinwatermelonseeds it's so hard not to feel weird and compare kids. DD1 just turned six and is in Kindergarten and is just starting to be able to read and write some things... really she's made lots of progress since starting K, but she had been doing the same stuff in preschool for the last two years. It freaked me out when one of her preschool classmates started reading just before turning five, but I really think there's a developmental component to it that she just wasn't ready for until recently.
@mcewen3 maybe they meant 45 degrees below freezing? So -13F? That seems like a mistake someone could make and more likely than people chilling at -45 in just a hoodie. But what do I know, I'm snuggled up in a blanket and it's 70 in my house.
Attempting to cook my spaghetti in a bigger pot 🤞🤞🤞🤞 it's funny to think I used to eat keto 😂 now I eat spaghetti daily. I'm so excited about this, I'm starving.
@eatinwatermelonseeds I agree with @sleepy33. I just made annie's whole wheat shells and cheese for lunch b/c I'm 29 and I don't want to grow up.
Also, I sent DH a list of questions for DD's checkup on Monday since they emailed me reminding me to fill out the questionnaire. The top of the list says "Starting a list of questions for the pediatrician:" to which DH responds trying to answer the questions. What???? We don't have answers for these and you're just guessing. I don't usually email him this stuff but with my OB appointments I just want to be organized. I do email him random other things to his personal account (this was sent there, too) all the time with things to talk about when we have a chance that night that I don't want to forget (logistics of visits to family, gift buying, who needs to do pick up and drop off with various things going on in our work schedules, etc. so it's not daily or even weekly by any means, but frequent enough). Like, it's great that you think DD can transition out of the crib soon but you aren't basing that on anything!!
@kvh22 😂😂 nice try hubby. "How to know your husband doesn't pay attention" 😂
Before I graduated I told my husband I wanted a Kindle Paperwhite. I talked about it for like 5 minutes and then was like "oh cool, I can make payments of $15 a month, or just buy it outright for $100" "wait... For what?" "A Paperwhite..." "Wait. You want to spend $100 on a paper weight?!" 🙄😂
Haha yea I forget what time zone @SpaceBurger is in but I tend to graze and then heat up my lunch around now some days (west coast over here).
I'm heading out soon to the Boys & Girls Club to help the after school kids work on essays and make friendship bracelets. I'm actually super into crafty stuff and don't have a good outlet right now (mostly due to time) so I'm hoping to be on bracelets lol. I was kind of dreading this - it's optional for work but I feel like I should go since it's only 20 mins away for me - but now that I'm in a good spot with dinner in the crock pot and work seemingly under control for now, I'm pretty excited. 5 of our 8 person team are away at conferences this week - I would normally be too but not flying by myself since I can't lift over 10 lbs and walk all over the hotel/conference center in good conscience with my SCH, plus I'd love to avoid the smokey haze that is the Las Vegas casinos while pregnant. The only positive to going to the conference which is in the back of my mind this week would have been that my cousin who went into labor early was in Las Vegas for a mini babymoon so has been staying there for 3 months while her son is in the NICU and I would have gotten to meet him and see her and her husband. Anyways, he gets to go home this week or next which is super exciting!
I'm in shock that girl from BOTB wasn't banned. She's posting in a thread there. Nothing crazy, but I'm lurking. I'm sure she'll say something insane that'll feed my llama.
Omg. DS asked to sing a song to the baby, so he did, then we sang together. And then I told him to say hi and he did in the sweetest voice and I was like "do you want to tell baby brother you love him?" "I love you baby brother, have fun with your baby friends" 😂
Also I like that she said she hopes it doesn't blow up like the last one. Well maybe don't say you think kids with problems don't deserve to live, k thanks.
Okay, I still haven't checked out that chick in the BOTB board. I need to go do that now. But first, I had a meeting with a doctor today and he had his french bulldog in the office with him. OMG cutest thing ever!! Call me crazy, but I swear he could smell that Im pregnant. He wouldn't leave me alone. The whole time he kept smushing his nose into my belly. The doctor's wife even said that he didn't usually do that especially to new people. I swear he KNOWS!
@brie_and_almonds I would assume they’d have converted the temperature from Celsius since the show is filmed in northern Canada so it doesn’t seem likely they’d be able to make an error like that. DH and I both thought it was intentional to make it seem way more brutal up there than it really is. I don’t know who the target demographic is, but I guess if it was somewhere where they don’t ever experience subzero temperatures maybe they would just assume these guys are super hardcore?

Which thread is it exactly??? I'm trying to find it.

@megsb615 I'm so sorry for your families loss. I understand the frustration at the family planning services on your husbands birthday. I hope it can still be a special day for him despite everything.
@fuscok88 Your boss already knows that you're going to quit after your maternity leave?
@megsb615 I am so, so sorry for you and your husband and his family. I'm sure it's tough to have that fall on his birthday on top of everything else he's already going through.

@megsb615 I am so sorry for your loss. Even when you know it’s coming it really doesn’t make it any easier. I hope the service goes smoothly tomorrow.

@kvh22 That actually sounds fun to work on bracelets. Especially if you get points at work for it
@eatinwatermelonseeds I was going to say the SAME THING. Like whaaaaaaat how HOW is she not banned or put in bump jail or whatever
ETA baby brother wiggled around the whole time 😭😍
What thread is crazy posting on now?
