Re: Weekly Randoms 11/12

  • Since we are just reusing DS's nursery this time I am hoping that I will get the motivation to tackle the rest of my house since I wont have a nursery to set up. I can just imagine clean closets.

  • @meatballs37 How do you get her to keep the toys in the basement? My kids bring all the toys upstairs because they want to be with me. It's almost more work for me because I have to continually take them downstairs.

  • @eleven_ we still have baby gates up, so everything is still regulated. 😆 but DH lets her brings up crap alllll the time. It’s so annoying. It makes me want to throw it all out!

@kjr9519 DH has been doing all the laundry. But in my defense it’s in the basement, and I’m not carrying loads up and down three flights of stairs. I giggled a little when you said you made dinner once.

  • @Dcwtada I am so so sorry! How stressful. My dog has never been away other than with family/friends so I can’t imagine the heartache of having him in the hospital :(

  • @Dcwtada I'm so sorry. I hope he gets the treatment he needs so he can come home soon. Our houses feel so empty when one of our pets arent with us.
  • @Dcwtada I'm so very sorry your pup isn't doing well! I've got two little buddies and when they aren't feeling good or aren't around it's really hard. I hope you are able to get some good news next week at the doggie neurologist.
  • @Dcwtada that sounds so sad. I'm sorry he isn't doing any better. I really hope you guys will be able to figure it out and get him home soon. Pets most definitely feel like family.
  • @dcwtada I am so sorry to hear that!
  • DH is on call this weekend so he has to work at minimum 7-11 every day then respond to anything that comes in. There is a good chance DS and I are going to stay in our PJs and have a movie marathon this weekend.
  • Oh @Dcwtada, I’m so sorry...that’s so hard, especially not having an obvious cause. How are you holding up?

  • @meatballs37 - Your D's playroom is so adorable! And so organized!
  • @Dcwtada - I'm so sorry  :(  I can only imagine how you feel right now. Pets are family. <3
  • @meatballs37, you’re motivating me to get my ass in gear and deal with this disaster. 🤦🏼‍♀️

  • @kissmeimscottish Wow, that looks just like my living room. I'll be shamelessly putting my kids in front if Paw Patrol this afternoon so I can get things back in order.
  • @ruby696, oh, it would be worse, except I think half the toys that belong in the above room are currently in the living room. Sigh. I think the process might be camping everyone in the TV a room, tossing all toys onto the floor of the playroom, and then cleaning up after bedtime. Too bad that’s exactly when what little energy I have usually tanks...

I’m hosting Thanksgiving on Thursday for 20 people and my mom keeps hounding me, asking to make sure the house is clean, and she doesn’t know I’m pregnant yet (that whole waiting for my sister to have her baby, and then hubby went out to sea and he wants to be here when we announce), so I’m over here like, I’m trying! And it just ends up looking like I’m the world’s laziest housewife.

  • @KissMeImScottish that looks like such a bright and spacious play area. If you get it done, it’s required you post an after! I think that’s the only reason I like hgtv, the before and after get me every time.

@Dcwtada I am so sorry about your dog. Hopefully they can figure out what is wrong soon.

  • @Dcwtada I’m sorry about your pup :(  I hope the specialist can give you some answers.

@meatballs37  the playroom looks great!  My kids are constantly bringing stuff upstairs, it’s super annoying!

  • @Dcwtada so sorry about your puppy.
  • @Dcwtada im so sorry about your dog. My dog is my little fur baby and when he got attacked by a big dog over the summer I was inconsolable. He’s fine now but it was so stressful. I hope the neuro vet is able to figure out the problem.

@KissMeImScottish I am hosting 18-21 for Thanksgiving as well (but on Friday). What were we thinking?!
  • @Dcwtada you poor girl! Hope your precious fur baby makes a phenomenal comeback. How miserable.

@meatballs37 that room is amazing. I don't even have kids and that's more organized than anything in our house.

I'm so impressed with the gals hosting Thanksgiving! Normally I have a big dinner for DH's student assistants (so 12-15 college dudes shoved into my living room, and I make an entire Thanksgiving dinner myself) but this year it didn't line up. Not too sad, honestly. We'll still have them over for Christmas.
  • @KissMeImScottish I see your living room and raise you a Costco size box of Gatorades ripped open and tossed around by my two year old! :D I just don't have the energy to clean up something that we immediately be destroyed again!

I’m so sorry to hear the news about your dog @Dcwtada. I hope it gets better soon!
  • @Dcwtada that’s terrible about your dog. Especially at his age. Thinking about you!!
  • I've also never cooked Thanksgiving. My parents even always host. I'm always put on endless cleaning and errand running. I don't enjoy cooking and hope I never have to host it.
  • Re playrooms: Wait not everyone's home looks like a daycare 😉? Eh, somehow it doesn't bug me. We have a small home and one room that is both a living room and dinning so no area for a playroom. Have I mentioned how much I hate living here bc of the cost of living? In my hometown I could a nice and big house for the cost of this two bedroom condo.
  • Until we buy a place the baby won't even actually have a bedroom. Playroom is sort of a pipe dream. We could get a bigger place but then the money saving would take longer and I like that option less. So for the first year things will be cramped and all of the baby playing will be in the living room.
  • My playroom is actually a large walk-in closet under the stairs. The kids bring out toys to the living room sometimes and when they are done it all goes back in and I close the door and it's all gone. It was the biggest selling point for me when we looked at this house. When I clean it, I will take a picture. 😉
  • It's 2:20 am. After having to ask my husband to move over so I don't fall out of bed, and then twice try to get ANY covers back because he yanked them all off -- in the last hour alone -- I just set up a bed for myself on the couch. He leaves tomorrow for 4 days in Kansas City and I will miss him terribly but I'm a little excited about the idea of maybe getting a whole night of sleep.
  • @ki1244 we have separate blankets. Mine is the king sized comforter we got for bed and his is a walmart special thats thin. Been this way for years lol
  • There’s a permanent sharpie in my fridge. I’m perplexed. I haven’t used a sharpie recently. But the fact of the matter is my SO works away.
  • For the first time ever in our marriage, my husband woke me up with his snoring. He’s a loud snorer, but once I’m asleep, sounds almost never bother me. If this is a thing that’s going to start bothering me, I may be in trouble.

@canuckbaby and @ki1244 DH and I have separate covers, too. It’s partly because if we’re under the same covers we overheat (thanks pregnancy hormones) and partly because we’re both blanket hogs.
  • @canuckbaby and @kjr9519 he used to be a burrito in bed the first couple years we were married, but hasn't been in a long time. Lately the bigger issue is him trying to snuggle in his sleep (he claims) and knocking me out of bed. Last night was just a jackpot night I guess... on the other hand, I slept soooooo well on the couch!
  • Our bed is a mess. We desperately need a king sized bed. In our queen, mind you we are also big people even when I'm not pregnant, we each have 2 of our own blankets (all king king sized), 2 pillows under our heads and we each have a snuggling pillow. So. Much.
  • My husband is a physical person. I don’t mean that in a lewd way, he’s just very tactile and he expresses/receives affection best through touch. I am NOT a physical person. Some of that is the Aspergers (which I’ve briefly mentioned before), which tends to make me move into sensory overload fairly quickly (which my husband totally respects), and some of that is being a mostly stay at home parent, which means I’m super touched out by the end of the day. Our king size bed is my salvation. He absolutely loves when we go on vacation and sleep in a queen because he loves being right on top of me, which I can handle for about 10 minutes before I’m ready to give up and go sleep on the floor. We’re not “big” people, per se, but my husband is a solid 6’2 and 210, and I’m 5’9 and 165. Add in 3 kids (soon to be 4), and we NEED the king size bed. It’s not a luxury for us, it’s a necessity. It saved my marriage when we upgraded because I suddenly had room to sleep comfortably.

  • I'd like a king size bed because Dd2 likes to end up in our bed but honestly DH and I always end up in the middle or on each other's side so I'm not sure if it'd be a waste

we've probably watched The Lion King a hundred times this week and I still get teary eyed when Mufasa dies! pregnancy hormones are crazy

    ETA: because words are hard
  • @KissMeImScottish you gotta do whatever you can to survive. Lol my habit is rubbing my H back for him to fall asleep but now its become my own sleeping habit. 3 or 4 swipes some nights and I am out. Lol he gets mad when it makes me fall asleep faster than him lol. The reverse is not true. If he rubs my back I want to murder him. Not enjoyable on my end at all
