Oye. I just got charged $1500 for my first prenatal appointment. The billing department also said they did genetic blood draw that I DECLINED. That was the most expensive part. I've just been a puddle of tears in my office this morning.
@SpaceBurger are they going to take off those charges?! Please tell me they are! You specifically said you didn't want the genetic testing, they can't just do it without your permission.
We heard back! The seller wants to give us a $3000 credit at closing which could be used toward anything (closing costs, reducing the price of the house, repairs, etc.). I think we're going to take it. It would be overly picky not to. She's basically giving us the money to fix it. Just waiting on DH to confirm.
Well, I guess we're not taking it? My husband is still not comfortable with the situation and I'd like to just go cry now. This is so frustrating. And I get where he's coming from and my friend is basically saying the same shit. I'm just annoyed.
@eatinwatermelonseeds Ugh I’m sorry. That’s so so frustrating. It would be $3,000 to make the repairs, right? Did he say what exactly makes him uncomfortable about it? Hopefully y’all can talk more about it and come up with something.
@eatinwatermelonseeds wait, I don't get it... you asked for $3000, they're giving you $3000... why does he want to walk away now? It sounds like they're giving you want you asked for!

He's afraid that they're going to start repairing the rot and it's going to end up worse and costing way more. Our realtor is sending out a guy he knows to do a comparison estimate. I'm frustrated.
@k2k2tog we asked for the rot to be repaired. They're giving us $300 over the estimate they received. The rot could end up being a major problem and costing more than what is estimated.
@eatinwatermelonseeds aahhh... yeah, an estimate from someone who has your best interests at heart is a good idea. Hopefully it turns out ok in the end. I really want you guys to get a house! This part of house buying is so frustrating and stressful.

@eatinwatermelonseeds definitely get a quote from someone you know who it is -- and you could turn right around and book them to do the job for whatever they quoted.
I found out I got into the nursing program I applied for. I was pretty much assuming I would but there's always that bit of doubt. I would like people to stop asking me if I'm no longer going to school because I'm pregnant.
@DuchessofCambridge Congratulations!!! I started my masters just after my daughter was born. There is no reason you can't go to school while a new mom. People are ridiculous.

I went to law school with a girl who got pregnant 3rd year and sat for the friggin bar exam while she was like idk 8 months along. She was a damned hero.
Thanks everyone! It's an ADN program, so less rigorous than an accelerated BSN. I'll do my bachelors online later. Only one class per semester plus clinicals, and I get summers off. Baby is due right after finals! IT'S LIKE WE PLANNED IT THIS WAY OR SOMETHING.
@sleepy33 yeah, I can't even imagine. I felt sick during the NCLEX which was 3 hours, not 3 days lol. I'm so grateful I wasn't pregnant in nursing school, my stress level was sky high every day. But we did have a girl in first quarter (our easiest quarter basically) who came in pregnant and delivered toward the end of that quarter. She graduated with better grades than me 😂
my neighbor is 35 weeks pregnant right now and finishing her dissertation. (!)
I got outed at DDs school yesterday. I could tell all the teachers were wondering but didn't want to ask if I was pregnant. THEN, one of them was casually like, "How are things, anything NEW?" and I said no, just hanging out and life as usual. Then she looks at me and says, "How is the baby?" I replied, "The WHAT?" "The BABY." "Oh it's great." I mean, whatever, I"m obviously pregnant now, but it's just lame that you're forced to talk about it.
@SpaceBurger that's fucking bold. I would've been like "what baby? I have no idea what you're talking about... Oh this? Yeah, too many cheeseburgers I guess. Been emotional eating" or something 😂 I'm so mad for you, who does that??!
OKAY. Lol. So, realtor just called AGAIN. He said he's pretty sure he's convinced them to do all the repairs they had estimated. Basically the same way they'd be crediting us and they could potentially save money since they were offering a couple hundred more than the estimate. But then it's done before closing. He said the seller doesn't speak great English and he thinks they've been pretty confused. I'm pretty excited.
@SpaceBurger I can't believe she did that. What balls on that lady. I would have said something to make her feel kinda shitty for saying something. Sounds like she is one of those people who just has to know what's going on in other people's lives and can't keep her shit together.
@eatinwatermelonseeds they basically accept people blind. There are no letters of recommendation or interviews or anything. All applicants are assigned a number so the acceptance committee doesn't know who is who, put into a spreadsheet, and then given points based on their pre-requisite grades and their TEAS score. Those with the top scores get in. I did very well on the TEAS, much higher than their average applicant, and my pre-req grades were a 4.0. This sounds boastful but I don't mean it to be. I worked hard and studied a lot and did well in class, and I studied for the TEAS for a month straight every day and did multiple practice tests. It was a little easier for me since it was basically a refresher of stuff I already knew, I didn't have to learn anything brand new to me but I still needed to study to brush up. The actual test also conveniently ended up being way easier than all the practice tests I had taken!
But anyway, just based on my pre-req GPA and TEAS score, I would have been pretty shocked if I didn't get in based on their very straightforward acceptance process.
@DuchessOfCambridge I don't think you were boastful at all. All the programs in this area do a lottery system. It's similar to your program, but they choose names. It's weighted, so we get points based on TEAS, CNA, military service, pre-requisite grades, etc. But the points just equal how many times your name is in a lottery. I applied to 3 different lottery programs. The first time I had 85/100 points. I didn't get in. My friend had 53/100 points and got in his first try. The second time, I had 95/100 points (I got my CNA), I made the wait-list but didn't get in. I finally made it my third time with 95 points. There were people who got in with 36 points. It was just luck of the draw when it really came down to it and it really really sucks.
@eatinwatermelonseeds wow, I've never heard of that! I got into one accelerated BSN program but couldn't go because it was wildly expensive and would have required us to pay full time daycare on top of it, AND I wouldn't have been able to have this baby now. We want a house one day so I wasn't willing to take out loans and put our family in that situation. The program I'm doing is ADN and very affordable OOP. The BSN program required me to set up an interview, attend a few info sessions, and have MORE interviews, plus two letters of recommendation after. This was the only ADN program I applied to so I'm not sure if other schools in the area are the same way!
I’ve been MIA and it’s taken me all day to catch up!
@wishiwaspreggo I’m so sorry about your pets 😥 that is so hard.
@mrskoz428 I’m curious how you’ll be allowed to use short term disability in the middle of splitting up maternity leave? Genuinely just curious how it works for you, my assumption is you have to have some sort of medical reason to take it? Without going into a long story I was severely screwed over at my last job and ended up having to pay cobra during my maternity leave (OUCH) and forced to pay a portion of my STD payouts back that I got while being not allowed to work because hr changed their mind of how they were going to let me use my benefits.
my random is that I have a cousin who has struggled with him and his wife conceiving for years. They fostered an abused/neglected baby for a couple years who ended up being placed back with birth parent and it was heart wrenching to watch. That was a couple years ago. They just announced today that they adopted a newborn baby boy, everything is finalized and they brought him home. My heart could not be happier for them, I’ve been in such a good mood just thinking about it. They deserve it so freaking much!!
@thebobloblaw I’m not splitting my leave. I could, but I can’t afford taking 10 weeks unpaid. I’ll take my up to 6 weeks oh short term disability and use 5 weeks of FMLA leave. And then the rest of the summer, but I still get paid for that.
