Supposed to go to a friend's house in about 20 minutes but I'm feeling nauseous and don't want to leave the house 😩 I love talking with her, but I'm a mess today.
I saw @mariposa_767s ticker thing that says her baby is the size of an 8oz piece of filet mignon today and it absolutely blew my mind! My LO is the size of a paperclip today and it made me realize how fast this baby is gonna be growing! Also constantly mind boggling that peeps in the same BMB are a whole 4 weeks past my pregnancy but so excited for everyone! All the gender/sex announcements are making me antsy to find out what we're having.
DH is in a training this week that starts at 6:45am (it's an east coast training but we're on the west coast so he's virtual at a remote site) so I'm doing morning routine and drop off. Luckily I can work from home all week except one day and I can shower after drop-off since my meeting is in the afternoon. I don't know how single parents or people whose SOs travel all the time do it. If I was showered and out of the house at 7:30 looking presentable every day with no help and DD fully fed, dressed, and packed for daycare, it'd be a miracle. I think I've done this a total of 5 times and the real obstacle is showering with a toddler who wants to play all the time.

@kvh22 one of the many reasons single parenthood sucks. And you feel like a slacker cause you're like, I shouldn't use it as an excuse, I should get up earlier, but when you haven't had a free moment to yourself until 8 pm, and you still have to do all the chores, and who knows maybe be up with a sick kiddo in the night, it's damn near impossible to get up any earlier. On the plus side, DS was potty trained super well and early because I'd just set him on his little potty chair every morning with his leap pad for the 15-20 minutes it took me to shower and get ready and he'd be corralled in the bathroom with me. He's still super regular about pooping first thing in the am lol
Probably a dumb question but Ive always had a high anxiety issue so I'm worried: I ate some turkey lunch meat today, heated it in the microwave for about 15 seconds and then put it on my sandwich and then in the toaster oven for about 1-1 1/2 minutes to get the cheese melted, does that sound long enough to kill any possible Listeria?
Lurking again (ha) with a cautiously optimistic update. I had a very vivid dream last night that I was KU again. I POAS this morning and sure enough, BFP. I'm absolutely terrified but excited.
Just needed to put this out there since we won't be sharing with anyone for a while. ❤️

@kvh22 Dh travels a lot and I used to work full time and it was nuts. I felt like I was barely keeping my head above water. Two different drop offs in the morning and night and I had a long commute. My boss was a micro manager and terrible. I got to point where I couldn’t handle it anymore and quit. I am thankful it was an option for me to be able to do that and not all moms can! Dh leaves today and will be gone for a week. Not looking forward to it.

Maybe this is a UO but I think the paranoia about listeria is overblown. The US food supply is by-and-large very safe. Everything is pasteurized and packaged food is loaded with preservatives. It seems one has a higher risk of getting listeria from bagged salad kits than they would from lunch meat. Use common sense of course but if you're craving a cold-cut sandwich, go ahead and have one. Just make sure the meat is fresh.
@wishiwaspreggo haha my OB is overly cautious on some things so in addition to heating lunch meat to steaming, she also told me to wash all greens before eating them (including/especially the bagged/clamshell ones). I bought a salad spinner last time and HATE IT but I know I'd freak out for a couple days after if I didn't use it.
@kbeers13 I'm technically due at the end of April but I like you guys better Plus I could go into May since I'm due two days before it starts. I was at the end of my son's BMB and it was so hard near the end lol!
@nopegoat I am SOOO happy for you! We've been missing you tons in this group and I can't wait to follow (in the least creepy way possible, of course) your journey!

@mariposa_767s I don't blame you! I like it in this group too
I thought about eating the foods from our week updates on the bump (other than my allergies) to ensure that I expose LO to all the tastes possible. Still in the considerations stages though
@kvh22 wait, you don't normally wash your greens? What about if there's dirt on them? I looooove my salad spinner. Growing up, my mom never owned a salad spinner, so we would just wash lettuce in a colander and then roll them up in a tea towel to pat dry and it never worked great. To this day I don't understand why she doesn't go out and buy a salad spinner.

@k2k2tog when it's in a bag, no, I don't From the farmers market while not pregnant, I just rinse it in my hands and pat dry with paper towels like your mom. I admittedly don't eat salads as much as I should so when I buy a bag I end up throwing out half of it.
I pretty much only buy bagged lettuce these days. I do have a salad spinner packed away somewhere from the days when I used to garden and ate lettuce out of the actual dirt.
@wishiwaspreggo COMPLETELY agree and we should also be allowed to eat sushi because I love it and that's a good enough reason for me. From a very scientific (I'm sure) article from Parents.com: "In Japan, eating raw fish is considered part of good neonatal nutrition as long as the fish isn't high in mercury levels (salmon is a safe pick!)." Thank you, that'll be all. Pass the salmon avocado roll!
@nopegoat HURRAY! Fx for you and your family. We miss your farm pics around here!!
Just read a "51 ways to save" with baby kind of post from the bump and it said to try skipping a baby tub. Is this something STM's would actually recommend? I feel like using a baby tub is safer and I'd spend money for my tiny child's safety. Thoughts?
@kbeers13 we borrowed a baby tub from a friend the first time and they will have a nb at the same time this time so we will be buying one. They’re pretty cheap and I would much rather have one than not! We used it until ds could sit independently.
@kbeers13 I wouldn't really know how to bathe a baby without a baby bath and they're really not expensive, so yes, I would recommend getting one! We used ours until my girls could sit unassisted around 5-6 months.

@wishiwaspreggo It seems like listeria is EVERYWHERE, but never in lunch meat haha. It's always premade food like at Trader Joe's and stuff.
