Movement Thread...kicks, punches, rolling, etc

We are getting closer to when everyone will start feeling some movements or what could be suspected as movements. This thread seems like a good idea to start so FTM's can ask veteran mom's opinions on baby movements in one thread. I know from my experience in previous boards, this will become a popular topic. I thought it would be nice to have a board dedicated to this topic. This discussion thread will evolve into a kick count question thread hopefully once people start reaching their 28th week.

Re: Movement Thread...kicks, punches, rolling, etc

  • I keep feeling something but can’t be 100% sure it’s baby girl. Last pregnancy I had a definite kick. It felt like someone pressing their thumb against my belly from the inside around 17 weeks. For now, just lots of bubbles and a couple weird rolls that could be mistaken for stomachs growls. 14+5, STM.

  • I think I keep feeling a "hard ball." I can see it looking at my belly. Sometimes it's on the right side like now, sometimes on the left, and sometimes not there. FTM at 15w, so I really have no idea what I should be looking or feeling for.

  • I had an anterior placenta with DD, and it was a LONG time before I felt anything. I felt some crazy pushing, stretching movement earlier this week that was undoubtedly baby!
  • 16w3d and I’ve been able to feel baby in certain sitting positions for a couple weeks now. But I’m a 3rd timer so it’s easier for me to distinguish.

  • I am a STM and will be 17 weeks tomorrow (how is that possible??). I like the rolling description, that is what those early movements feel like to me. I think I have felt the baby a couple of times in the last 2 weeks, but it’s not super obvious or strong so there is a chance I am wrong. I wish I could feel him move every day just for reassurance. I keep poking my belly and telling baby boy to do stuff, but my husband says he’s just a chill dude and to stop poking him  :D

In contrast my 2 year old daughter was a baby boxer in there starting at 16 weeks, and she hasn’t stopped moving since!
  •  Didn’t feel my daughter until after 20 weeks, but I’ve been feeling this baby regularly (nightly and if I sit down after being really busy) for the past week ( I’m 17 weeks tomorrow). Rolling/stretching is the closest description right now
  • I thought I felt something the other night as I was laying down for bed. But I'm a ftm so who knows. I'm 16w2d today and had an appointment and got to HEAR kicks on the doppler so that was cool. But nothing definitive as far as feeling anything yet.
  • I'm a FTM at 17 weeks. I've thought I felt the baby rolling for weeks but figured I must be mistaken because everyone else Is talked to called it 'flutters' or 'popping' and I definitely would not describe it as that.
  • STM and think I’ve felt lo “rolling” once or twice now (15 weeks). But nothing that was definitively baby. Didn’t feel anything with my first until almost 20 weeks.
  • @swanbrooner I just found out at my gender reveal ultrasound that I have an anterior placenta. Do you felt like you felt your first less generally or did you still get the kicking/baby’s in there sensation?
  • I’m 13 weeks now and felt my previous 2 babies move around 16-17 weeks. This one I’ve been able to feel since 8 weeks—I have no idea how that’s possible. Lots of rolling and pressure now, can see the little ball raised on one side of my stomach or the other, and can feel baby a lot when she’s tucked down low near my pubic bone. She doesn’t like when I bend over to tie my sneakers or squeeze into tight waistband workout pants—rolls a lot and gave me my first kick or jab yesterday.

But, I’m also someone who has always experienced Braxton Hicks practice contractions from waaaay early in pregnancy & all the way throughout, so sometimes I wonder if the tummy bulge I’m seeing is a Braxton Hicks contraction...
  • I have definitely been feeling our little girl for the last couple of weeks, it’s beyond bizarre! STM here and I’ll be 17 weeks tomorrow. Can’t believe that I’m almost at the 1/2 way point! The further along I get the more distinct the movement becomes, it’s so hard to describe in the beginning.
  • With my first, I felt movement around 11 weeks. It was slow and gentle, like butterfly wings but too slow to really call "flutters". I didn't think it was possible to feel baby that early, so I never told anyone. This time, I started feeling movement around 9 weeks, and I'm trying to be more confident in saying that it's definitely baby! It's more like a rolling sensation this time around. It's right around my c section scar, so I know where my uterus is lol.

I work at a desk job, so I think that helps me feel it early because I'm sitting still all day. The other thing that does the trick is eating a snack, especially fruit! A banana and they go crazy.
  • I am 17 weeks and I have been feeling the baby move since week 15. The movements were inconsistent and random at first but now they are VERY consistent. The baby is actually wiggling around as I write this. I am feeling a lot movement in the morning, when I'm curled up on the couch, and after I eat meals. This is a VERY active baby!

I had an anterior placenta last time around and if anything it took a little longer to feel baby but I felt him just fine once he was a little bigger

  • @tfraz2016 The movement was definitely noticeable and visible from the outside too eventually. I never felt like I really could get a sense of where she was or what part of her was poking out though.
  • I started feeling this baby in between weeks 14 and 15, just a pressure rolling feeling . I just hit week 16 Sunday, and movements are still hit and miss. The movements I felt were very distinguished. I am excited for consistent movement. My son was a night owl, so he’d kick my husbands back all night and I’d snuggle against him. Our daughter was so little you could barely feel anything on the outside.

  • STM and I swear I’ve felt rolling toward the very bottom. I thought I was going crazy because I do have an anterior placenta this time so I didn’t expect to feel anything yet. But when I googled more info it says most feelings I will get to feel will be on the bottom and sides. That’s exactly where I felt it so maybe I’m not crazy. With DD the first feelings were around 19 weeks and they started off as butterfly flickers. So feeling the rolls first was different as well. I really can’t imagine gas feeling like this though. I’m 15+1 but measuring almost a week ahead so 16ish.
  • @tfraz2016 I have an anterior placenta and between that and being a FTM, I was pretty much resigned to the idea I wouldn't feel anything until after week 20 but I have already been feeling little 'rolling pressure' off and on since week 14 that doesn't feel like gas. After talking to other mommas, I feel more confident that it's baby. It's nothing like distinct kicks yet but it's still noticeable when I'm sitting and usually happens in the evenings.
  • STM and 17 weeks, 1 day. I’ve felt some rolling or fluttering the last couple weeks but just randomly. Yesterday was more consistent movements a few times. With DD I started feeling her around this time too because I distinctly remember seeing her kick me on screen at my ultrasound appointment and feeling it.

  • Damn, I feel SO left out of this thread! :( I don't feel A THING. Unless I just don't know that what I'm feeling is the baby......... but so far it just feels like a heaviness and stretching!! I'm 17 weeks tomorrow. Sheesh, little girl.... come on already!!!!!!!
  • Don’t get discouraged @indigoheightsblog, a lot of FTM’s don’t feel anything until 20-24 Weeks. Especially if they have tiny peanuts. Your little girl just might be petite. :)

  • @indigoheightsblog I feel ya! I'm 17 weeks 4 days and haven't felt anything. I think I got overly excited about a gas bubble one morning but that's about it...
  • @indigoheightsblog with my daughter as a FTM I didn’t feel anything until well after 20 weeks. If it makes you feel better, I remember going for my anatomy scan and she was moving all over the place and I felt nothing.
  • @mamaoftwomonkeys - omg i know it's crazy!!! at our 12 week 3 day ultrasound she was basically doing backflips and kicking all over the place. (obviously wouldnt expect to feel her that early but it was so cool to see her gymnastics!)
  • @mamaoftwomonkeys I just had my anatomy scan yesterday and even though little baby was kicking like crazy I felt nothing. The US tech was surprised I couldn’t feel a thing. So now I know all my earlier assumptions of feeling baby “move” was just excitement on my part  :D

We’ll feel our babies soon enough @indigoheightsblog!
  • I thought I was feeling baby last week and maybe the week before but now I’m not sure.  I have an anterior placenta (again) and last time I felt movement closer to 20-22.
  • I'm with @indigoheightsblog and @maggiemadeit.... I am pretty sure baby finally decided to cooperate this afternoon. I was at work and I started to feel this rolling kind of gassy feeling. But it was only in one place and it was kind of sporadic, off and on for about 15 minutes. It has also been happening quiet a bit since I've been home. And no corresponding gas to go with it. So I'm fairly confident my little guy was having a tumbling party in my uterus. Haha
  • Influence of the full moon? Usually I have felt rolling only at night but it has been nearly non stop today and I did actually feel a little bubble sensation for the first time ever.
  • @mschanandlerbong1214 @swanbrooner @mayoduck Y’all make me feel so much better! I was a little discouraged because some moms mentioned feeling cheated because they missed the movement. But the nurse found the HB easily today with a Doppler and that was definitely more encouraging because apparently that can be tough too.
  • @tfraz2016 my little guy made my doctor work for it at my appointment this week. She found it after several seconds and then he moved. A couple of times. Haha! He was apparently not liking being poked at.
  • @valentynsi my mom like to tell me the story of how I used to kick the ultrasound wand all the time.

  • 15 weeks this week and i felt her more last week than this week but i know she's in there. Had a doc appt yesterday and doc had a moment finding her with the Doppler, she was not feeling it...stubborn already...i am definitely looking forward to feeling more movement...it feels more like pops right now, and most of the time i feel it in the car, guess she doesn't like the seatbelt restriction lol

@meggyme my mom said I would cover my face.

I had  an ultrasound done this morning. Baby kept rolling away so we could see baby’s face. Baby is facing the placenta which is posterior so that’s why I’m not feeling a ton lately.

Edited bc bc I hit post too soon.

  • I think I felt some last night! These felt fairly definitive and slightly stronger than I was expecting. Hoping to feel more
