Re: Weekly randoms 7/23-7/29

  • Damnit. Now I need a freaking IP.
  • Loading the player...
  • ok well, I just ordered an instant pot and we are having Mac and cheese for supper.
  • H is 100000000% convinced that he only will produce daughters. I really think he will die of shock if this kid has a penis.

Mine is convinced he can only produce sons (his dad is one of 5 boys, he’s only had 2 girls born on his side of the family in at least 4 generations) so I think we may need to bring some smelling salts into the AS just in case he passes out if they say it’s a girl.
  • He’s got like 7 million female cousins. Oh and he says he can “feel it in his loins” that this one is a girl. Dork.
  • Idk, but I love the idea!
  • Ok question now, how do I make a pinned post, haha? And does anyone mind if in it I say to limit comments to recipes only, not comments about recipes, to keep it clean? If needed people can then tag the person in the randoms thread if they have questions or comments about a recipe.
So you just make a regular post and then tag BumpAdmin in the comments and ask them to pin it! Are we doing just IP recipes or all recipes?
  • @bourbonbiscuits I was thinking just IP recipes for those of us who have an IP, since they're usually so quick and we're all about to be crazy busy. I think a separate regular recipe thread would be great too though since not everyone has an IP. If it's just one single recipe thread, my lazy ass doesn't want to have to scroll through non-IP recipes if I'm specifically looking for an IP one/vice-versa for people who don't have an IP.
  • I don’t know that I’d pin a post for just IP recipes. Just name it something that is easily searchable or bump it occasionally. Too many not-relevant-to-everyone pinned posts is going to clog the board.
  • Our sewer line backed up into our basement tonight. We realized 20 mins before we were supposed to leave for 5 days. $400 for Roto rooter to come out, cleared the line but it needs repaired and then just quoted us 6k. Just when we were starting to build up a savings. Poof gone

@nursemom913 yikes on the bright side it didn't start 20 mins _after_ you left for 5 days, but what a headache!

These IP posts are giving me jealousy.  My husband saw me googling pictures of IP food just now and asked if I wanted one for my birthday later this year (we are both into kitchen gadgets). Turns out they're not yet available in New Zealand so we may investigate options for shipping from the UK...

  • I’m laying here, in bed...thinking about the damn chocolate chip cookie in the kitchen. Don’t want to get out of bed. FWP man..
  • Oh man, these IP recipes sound so good. I might have to break down and get an IP once my stomach lets me actually cook anything.
  • I saved my maternity clothes from DD and let my sister borrow them, but they're too big for her. Well now I freaking need them back (thx bloat) but I'm afraid of them being too small for me, since my prepregnancy weight is higher this time than it was for DD. Why am I having anxiety about this.
  • @nursemom913 what a bummer! That's painful. We have zero savings because every time we start to amass anything, something always comes up. It freaking sucks.
  • @notthecheat that is totally me. I’m starting about 20 lbs up from where I started last time, and all my maternity clothes fit too well and I’m not even big yet.
On top of that people have been making unsolicited comments like “why don’t you try x diet” or “why don’t you try working out.” Not looking forward to comments on my size and weight moving forward. I wish I could go into hiding for the next 7 months.
  • @notthecheat same here with maternity clothes. And I for some reason hate spending money on them, but I don’t think I’ll have any pants that fit from last time.
  • @conchispita why does it seem like pregnancy is an open door for even more body judgment?!
  • @nursemom913 that sucks... Homeownership is so expensive.

IP people, were any of you previously anti-slowcooker? I really dislike slow cooker food and that's made me hesitant to get an instant pot but damn they sound great.
  • @becks_726 I don't love the way meat and stuff like potatoes comes out of a slow cooker, it's like mushy and yuck to me. When I cook it in the IP, I think it comes out perfectly and the IP doesn't cook all of the texture out of it.
  • @bleucheeznwine that's probably part of my problem too. I find everything just comes out tasting like a crockpot.
  • Does anyone have anything like this or have any experience? With my last newborn, she'd end up in bed with us for a little while each night when nursing, and although we did all of the safe things for cosleeping, I always slept really lightly or not at all out of caution. My husband, of course, slept like a husband, so that made me resentful. Anyway, thoughts on these?

I may kill my husband today. He woke up in a bad mood and everything he does and says pisses me off.

  • @megpants209 I don't get it.  Common sense should tell them they are being rude, right?
  • Ok guys need opinion for real...Odouls beer (which is LOW alcohol and NOT alcohol free)...could I have one as I sit on the beach being cranky as fuck?  Or would you guys avoid like the plague? I’m not looking to go on. Abender but one beer sounds good right about now...

O’Douls isn’t my favorite. I prefer Clausthauler. I wouldn’t worry about such low alcohol content either - mouthwash and cough syrup have more.

  • @kayjay44 thanks! I was hoping you would respond because I know you do research haha.  Yeah it’s actuallt Sharps that the beach bar has but same level as odouls.  Yes I have heard of clausthauler but have trouble finding it!

I mean I still drink wine occasionally so I know I'm a bit more relaxed than most but I wouldn't think twice about having an O'Douls or something similar. But I'm comfortable with the research I've done. If I wanted a real beer with a reasonable alcohol content (no imperial stouts here) I'd have one and sip it slowly/share with my husband. BUT, if it's going to make you anxious, not worth it.
  • I’d feel totally comfortable with that too @danixbanani24. With DS I definitely had odouls/clausthauler while watching football with a bowl of chili. I also have a glass of wine here and there (sipping slowly, probably once a month) once I get out of first tri though, so I’m definitely on the more relaxed end of the rule spectrum.
  • I wouldn't think twice about it @danixbanani24. Post first tri I'd be comfortable with <1 glass of beer or wine every so often but probably won't because of DH's discomfort. I might feel more strongly when the time comes though. :D
  • Ugh. About to go do a glucose test. Nasty ass drink. What I really want to do is go to the county fair and get a giant corn dog.
  • Good luck!

  • @madreofdragons that sucks! My SIL failed her one hour but passed her 3 hr one. It seems to happen somewhat often. Fx you pass the 3 hr again and don’t have to deal with this again!
