Uuugh, have the TDAP at my next appointment in a couple weeks and now feeling uneasy about it since it seems like a unified consensus that it's awful.
They wanted to do it at my last appt, but that was my glucose test and the following day I had another shot scheduled and I just didn't want to be a pin cushion. Now wishing I had just got it over with.
@lest12 I definitely bought our coming home outfit when we found out we were having a girl at 13 weeks. Haha I think a thread to share would be cool.
@sammierose464 I had a suggestion for a product spotlight the other day and now I cant remember for the life of me! Lol I'll be back, I'm determined to think of it!
@HoosOnFirst I normally wait until end of October/beginning of November to get my kids flu shots. I remember one year (before my kids were born, but I have young siblings) there was a lot of issues with the flu shot and may have even been a recall. It’s the least tested vaccine because it changes every year, so I’m a little more cautious about it than other vaccines. Since it becomes generally available at the end of August, I give it a couple months to make sure there aren’t widespread issues. Call it paranoia (MH does) but flu season doesn’t usually pick up here until November/December anyway, so I’m comfortable waiting and will do the same again this year. Probably get it for the kids at one of the baby’s early appointments (I’m due at the end of October).
RE TDap - do you ladies having reactions to it normally have those reactions or are they worse during pregnancy? I talked to my dr about the reaction I had last time I had TD and it sounds very similar to what you all are experiencing, but my dr advised me to skip the vaccine and call him if I got a cut or puncture wound so I could get it then. I switched drs when we moved, brought it up to the new nurse and she acted like that wasn’t a normal reaction (I told her I was very run down, almost like a hangover, but I’m not sure she actually listened to what I was saying). Based on the nurses reaction and previous dr’s advice, I declined the shot again. I am way overdue for it and want to get it, but if the reactions are worse than normal during pregnancy for everybody, I will probably wait to get it until delivery (I was so drugged up when they asked me after my boys that I said no to it because I was declining everything at that point - I just wanted everybody to go away so I could sleep).
@purplegoldfish2 for what it’s worth, I’ve had this reaction to every shot since I can remember. Doesn’t seem to be any worse than usual this time. My doc advised me to get it anyway and immediately go home and take Tylenol.
@lest12 it would depend so much on my relationship with the person and how you think they’d respond to different reactions. You’d be totally justified in going to HR if that’s what you’re most comfortable with. They can’t be doing shit like that in the workplace, and they should know better. But if you’re worried they might get mad or something that you reported it (and you care that they’d be mad), you could pull them aside and be like “look I don’t want to go to HR and make a big deal out of it, but what you said the other day made me uncomfortable. You can’t go saying shit like that to people around here.”
@lest12 I mean it's really inappropriate.. would you even hesitate if it were a Male coworker? I would either go to hr or talk to her privately and tell her the comment made you uncomfortable
@dunkindecaf I could probably just be direct with her and squash it. I find it mostly uncomfortable because while she isn't my boss, she has seniority over me and she said it while I was trying to help her do something work related that isn't even really my job.
Have we done a baby toy/activity center spotlight? Like do they need these things or will it be like my cat where they are more interested in the box? Are some better than others? I have no idea. Also sorry if we already did one and I missed it.
@lest12 it’s realky about your own subjective comfort or discomfort in my opinion. But you certainly wouldn’t be wrong to report her. That’s such an inappropriate thing to say, especially at work.
I agree with others, that it is really about you and your feelings on this. If you are comfortable (or at least can manage, because that is never really a comfortable conversation) talking to her first that is probably a good way to go, but regardless of what you decide i would document everything...what she said and when, and any follow up you take with her or with HR. You don't have to do anything with it other than keep it written/typed somewhere privately, but then you have it if it ever comes up again for some reason or if her response/reaction to it is not appropriate in any way. it doesn't have to be fancy, but just a quick note with the info and dates.
So I showed up at the MFM clinic for my growth scan at 8am only to find out my appointment was actually at 11am. Holy hell!!! Thankfully they were able to squeeze me in.
Btw my 19 yr old and my 3 yr old are both jerks lol. I'm hoping they both grow out of it ASAP!
my random is that i was sort of feeling like i had my life together until i had to pee in a tiny dixie cup today and realized it's all just a big guessing game.
PSA #5694154 for vaccinating your children: I was one of those babies who caught chicken pox before I was old enough for the vaccine and just found out today that I have shingles for the SECOND time at age 24.

@bel194 I'm sorry you have shingles that really sucks, hopefully it isn't too painful. Also your comment makes me feel old, they didn't have a chicken pox vaccine back in my day.

I think timing-wise I would have been 1 year old right when it came out but I had already had it at 8 months old (no idea where I caught it from!). All the other ladies in my office have been talking about their chicken pox parties as children, so luckily I don't have to go home from work since everyone has already had it

@bel194 the vaccine wasn’t available yet (born in 1991) so I got the chicken pox when I was little. I ended up with shingles when I was in 7th grade and it was so incredibly painful agreed that the vaccine is super important.
I was born in 89 and my brother in 84. So when he got it, my mom "made" me get it too. I only vaguely remember so I must've been really small. I've never had shingles though... knock on wood.
I was born in the '80s so I had the chicken pox but was too young to remember it. I had shingles when I was 30. I didn't even know there was a chicken pox vaccine until the appointment where DS1 was vaccinated.
I had the chicken pox twice. Yup, twice. Once when I was like 8 months old and the doctor said it was a very mild case, but the doctor and my parents thought that meant I was safe after that because..you know...YOU ONLY GET IT ONCE. Well apparently if you have a mild case of it you dont always build up great resistance, so I got it again at the age of 12 from my little sister- it was fucking miserable. I wish they had the shot back in my day.
Also @lest12 I would pull her aside and say something. Some women talk very openly with their friends about that stuff, and she may have felt that woman to woman it was ok. I would pull her aside and let her know that, especially because this is a work environment, you felt uncomfortable and that it was inappropriate.
@norahkate yes! I have horrible aim to begin with (always wondered as women talked abiut aiming, I never could) but at my last appointment I was worried I wasn't going to get enough in the cup as it was 200% more difficult!
Born early 80's and there was some sort of shot around as when my brother was in college i got it (think I was 11) and Dr's were suggesting he get the shot as the older you are when you get it the worse it can be. So he did, got a mild case and was good.
Update - I just went in and said something, and apologized profusely. She said as soon as she said it, she was wondering why it came out of her mouth and couldn't figure out a way to unsay it. And she thanked me for coming in.
So that little drama is over for today! I mean, I think the lady is actually a little coo-coo for cocoa puffs, but at least it doesn't have to be weird.
I've just accepted that when I go to the doctors I'll end up peeing on myself trying to pee in that stupid cup. I haven't been able to see what I'm doing down there in months!
+1 for having issues peeing in the little cup. I missed the cup for the most part at my appointment last week, just caught enough for them to do the test!
This all makes me so happy for my doctors office- they have this really wide brimmed cups that have a cap around them so they literally cover your whole vulva so you cannot miss no matter how it comes out

Same! It took a LOT of convincing to get my husband on board with even giving DS1 the vaccine because he was of the mindset "I didn't get it so why does he need it?" DS2 got it too so FX neither of them ever get chickenpox or shingles.
@bel194 ugh, that sucks! As a fellow person who has had shingles before, I totally sympathize with you, and hope that you don’t have it too bad right now.
@purplegoldfish2 TB keeps doing the same reloading thing to me and it’s super annoying!

Thanks for the flu shot advice! Great call that the earlier batches sometimes have issues.
I think the point of getting tdap while in third trimester is so that the baby gets it too. Getting it after delivery doesn’t allow it to carry over to him or her. Your doc maybe advised against getting it because he was thinking about the tetanus portion, but unless the reaction is super severe, I wouldn’t skip it because it protects baby from whooping cough, the “p” in tdap. It definitely hurt my arm last time for a few days, which sucked, but I don’t recall other issues.

A female coworker just told me she didn't realize how well-endowed I was.
This is not someone I am *that* friendly with. Holy effing inappropriate.
@lest12 um, totally inappropriate! You could always take it to HR...
